1  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Too high power consumption on: June 05, 2017, 11:42:48 AM
I believe the default power consumption of rx 580 is slightly higher than rx 570 by about 20w(I might be wrong) but I am sure they where higher, I believe that explains the higher power draw at the wall.

philip sorry to derail this thread, here you mentioned that you might build an enclosure for the rigs, and you pointed to radiator fans, I was browsing this forum and came across a post by MarkAz, that those fans may be not good enough here so if you do go ahead, please be careful.

I too was looking for an alternative, but no luck so far Sad

I generally let then run the same coin, but I will reduce the tdp, and will go easy on the rig in general.

Phil, what is your advice? I have to choose between this GB models:

AORUS GeForceŽ GTX 1080 Ti 11G
GeForceŽ GTX 1080 Ti Gaming OC 11G

http://www.gigabyte.com/Comparison/Result/3?pids=6275,6262

The difference in the prices is about $43. Do you think the higher core clock and the better(is it really better) cooler cost $43?

I have around 6 Aorus and from my experience I would say, when you build your rig please leave ample space between the cards(add a high cfm fan pushing air from the front), and I recently go the extreme edition of it and the huge copper place dispenses a lot of heat, keeping the card cool but if you place the next gpu nearby that heat is sucked into it creating a chain effect.

Hope this helps

Sorry for the noob question, but this cant be real right?

http://www.alibaba.com/product-detail/All-Best-ROG-GeForce-GTX-1080_60663132978.html

I would stay away from alibaba when it comes to branded products like GPU,CPU,MB. They make very good fakes and sometime they work, but most of the times it wont and warranty doesn't exist so its a big risk.

Smart - for the past 3 hours Skein earnings are zero - it's basically flatlined, how that is possible I have no idea. Maybe the graph is messed up or something but i don't know how my earnings are going sideways and not up lol.

Guess I'll swap it over to Zec myself.

same here, I too noticed that for about an hour there is no earnings, though the hash is being registered, I guess there might be a problem with reward distribution.
I mine at zpool.ca though.

lol do you know there is mixer, gambling site who don't take any ID I just send them and they will send back to me in diff wallet address. After that I can sell those easily. And those site not comes into any regulation. Mostly from unknown places and unknown face. No one know real owner.

If tracking bitcoin easy then dark world don't use bitcoin. Ransomware attacker still free even he is attacking since so many months even attacked many govt. offices in world. Why Authority still not able to track them.

I believe you have never heard of big data and big data analysis before right? There are few things,

1. Regarding ransom ware here is one link for you https://www.cryptocoinsnews.com/bitcoin-seeking-ransomware-scam-busted/
2. Regarding dug dealers here is a link for you, https://darkwebnews.com/bitcoin/denmark-bitcoin-traced-drug-dealer-arrests/
3. if you are going to ask why others are not arrested, there are many things at play here(country that doesn't care, state sponsored, etc, etc), this thread is not the place for those discussions.

You say you will sell them easily, how? if you are thinking about skins, game codes, etc, those are still trails. There is no such thing as above regulation, its all well and good till law enforcement takes interest in it.

So I am to believe that people use only anonymous currency for all their illegal activity? if you are so naive to believe that then who am i to say otherwise?

This discussion is now going in circles, just saying mixer, tumbler wont cut it, as there are methods that can defeat those with timing/location/usage pattern/link analysis, search the Internet for BTC blockchain analysis and you will get it. Now either you make a strong case to prove BTC is anonymous disproving all the points that I have said or else this discussion is going nowhere.

*previous quote sniped*

It is identified in many cases because many user gave identity to exchanges where you can identify them if they use their service.

Just tell me if I buy new laptop/Mobile/Hardware wallet use public wifi service download new wallet and send BTC to that wallet how you will track me. It's not Bitcoin who lost anonymous nature it's user who did not care or don't want to be anonymous.

Ok here are few questions then,

1.Where is this previous address(one or many?) you are sending resides?
2.What was the previous address used for?
3.What transaction was made from the previous address?
4.How you got the coins into the previous address in the first place?
5.What are the transaction that you are doing with your new address?
6.Is there any repetition transaction that matches with your old address?
7.Does the area of operation of new and old address matches? (IP wise?)
8.Was there any conversion done with the previous address?(btc to real world cash?) If so where and to whom?

I could go on and but I hope this gives you an idea. Anonymity of bitcoin was not lost it never had any to begin with. Buying new laptop/mobile/hardware wallet doesn't add anything to anonymity unless your old ones are bugged, and if thats the case law enforcement has already have very clear idea, this new gadgets wont make any difference.

9  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: CPU mining on: June 04, 2017, 11:21:30 AM
XMR can be only mined via CPU.
I used to mine it but i dont think there is much profit in Mining via CPU.
You will need a good configured CPU to mine such coins n also you have to maintain the electricity cost.
Other Coins can also be mined on CPU by used CPU miners like nicehash, cryptopia, etc but they wont give you much but will increase your electricity cost.
You can try mining them and continue doing so if you think it is profitable.
Feel free to inbox if any help needed.

XMR can be mined using GPU also, though the difference between the CPU and GPU hashrate is not vast, that is why its still profitable to mine using CPU.

Thanks a lot for your reply. Can you help me by suggesting which coins should I buy for good returns

I would suggest that you do your own research because for example I might suggest a coin say ZEC, and you invest your money in it, and if it increases in value then its good, cheers all around but if it crashes who will be have the hard time? I might have sold it or I might not have made any investment in it, so there is zero risk in this but for you, your entire capital is at stake. so do your research.

There are couple of questions that I ask before I will invest my money, they are

1. Who are the people developing the coin? What are their previous positions and what are their achievements?
2. What is the purpose of the coin? What makes it different? Is there no other coin that can offer the same function?
3. Was there any instamine/premine/ICO?
4. Was the coin being actively developed/promoted?
5. How volatile is its price? How big the pump and dump cycle is?
6. What is the general opinion about that coin? What do outsides think about it?

like I said above, do your search, no one other than you stands to loose anything here, its your money.

Hope this helps.

In many cases it can be identified not in all cases. Noob who don't know how to hide can be trace.

Same kind of reasons gave in your other article. Don't have time to quote all points what say it can be annoymous and so you must read carefully to understand what writer trying to saying.

If it can be identified even in "many  cases" how can bitcoin be anonymous? If the user is adding external technology like VPN/TOR/Shell Accounts/etc then these provide the critical link in gaining anonomity not the bitcoin, so saying bitcoin is anonymous is not correct.

Said that I have read the article and don't understand what you are saying, care to explain?

yeah but it's bad because it can catch fire, why alluminium can not, to be honest i did not have any electricity problem with aluminium, if you insulate well there is not this issue, just use plastic for stand offs motherboard

Regarding the flammability of wood I found an interesting read below(page 8 to be precise)

https://www.fpl.fs.fed.us/documnts/fplgtr/fplgtr190/chapter_18.pdf

I believe even even prolonged exposure in the mining rig will bring the temperature above 100C so I think its safe to say it wont catch fire.

13  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Who is grounding their GPUs, mobos, to case and rack? on: June 04, 2017, 06:40:32 AM
I once had a 6 gpu rig made with wood, and what I did was run 1.5sq mm wire with rig terminal to each of the gpu, and the PSU, I put the rig terminal just below the top connector and screwed the GPU in place and for the PSU I place one above the backplate connector and secured it with a screw. I had all the ground wires in turn connected to a 4sq mm wire that was connected to the ground wire.

To be honest that was my first rig and was scared so went with that crazy setup  Cheesy

14  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Which gtx 1080 ti brand is the best? on: June 04, 2017, 06:28:04 AM
I have 1 FE card and 6 Aorus card and from my experience I would say Aorus is better in both cooling and hashrate. As others has pointed out its really big almost 3 slot wide and almost 13" in length, costs $720+ and you need enough space between cards to keep the temperature in 60's range but on the plus side you can OC them a lot its power limit goes up to 350w per card and will crunch a ton of hash.

Hope this helps.

15  Local / Mining (India) / Re: regardign ethOS on: June 04, 2017, 06:08:05 AM
as per my reading and research there are following kinds of miners are available in market

minergate
ethOS
claymore
cgminer
nicehash

i want to build the rig but currently i have not availability of AMD cards

so, i am planning to make from nvidia.

what are the effect of ethOS on the hash rate of nvidia and amd card with compare above miner? (for mining of ether, zcash or monero)

compare to above miners, how easy to setup ethOS?

i do not expect that you have experience of all above.

But any advice or suggestion will helpfull to me.

First: ethOS is not a miner, its a operating system just like Windows but built on GNU/Linux and as far as I know ethOS don't support nVidia

Second : Stay far away from minergate, they are thieves, they steel your hashrate and pay you less. Just do a search on this forum you will know what I am taking about.

Third : nicehash is not just a miner, they are a hash renting platform who also provide miners.

Forth: Each algorithm has different miners, so each miner on each algorithm performs differently comparing them across the board is like comparing apple with oranges

Fifth : Setting up ethOS is very easy but I would strongly advice against it, because they lifted the code from GNU/Linux and have not honored the GPL license and this makes them thieves.

Sixth : Take a look at the below mentioned link, it might help

https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=1854250.0

Seventh: If I where you, what I would do is first select one algorithm and find out all the miners that is available and find benchmarks of each miner on the GPU that I have, then select the next algorithm and repeat. Once I have all the details at hand then I will look at an OS that will support these miners.

Eight: If you are not comfortable with GNU/Linux, you can run almost all leading miners on Windows without much problem.

Hope this helps.

idk.. partly because it is anonymous.

It's anonymous because you can track wallet and transaction but how you will relate to someone with that wallet.

Sorry to say but bitcoin is not anonymous and if you please read the the following two links it would do a better job of explaining why its not anonymous and how tracing is done over the blockchain.

17  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: [Request for Info]Efficient airflow design for GIGABYTE AORUS GeForce GTX 1080Ti on: June 03, 2017, 02:42:12 PM

well the 10 inch  will use 80 watts  which means a splice into  a molex  and the molex allows 3 power choices been a while since I did that  but I think  the correct wiring to a molex will yield 9 volts   which  should still let that fan pull tons of air.

I think I will take this one on and try to build one.  I have cards I have mobos I have the case.  so why not

Thanks for the update philip, about the setup. here is what I was thinking, which in my opinion will make enable efficient airflow.

Here the fan is mounted to the top with the case having a vertical limit of about 9". And the GPU's are mounted at an angle of about 70 degree that makes them blocking the channel and any air flow has to wash over then, that will in my opinion will help in reducing the heat a lot. Each channel can be about 12CM wide which will give ample space to mount the gpu at that angle.

So the breth of the case will be about 6*12 + 5CM margin = 77cm. This is a big but I hope this will help.

Any ideas and criticism is welcomed. If anyone else have any ides a please post them here.

Simple is that bitcoin is not authorized by government nor there is any news of banning it.bitcoin can be taken as virtual asset that now many indians are taking interest in investing their money in it so they can get profit.some of government members are against it because it is anonymous and before demonatisation black holders while hiding their money in it.

Don't take it the wrong way but how on earth a transparent blockchain like BTC can be used to hide black money? why do people still think bitcoin is anonymous?

19  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: [Request for Info]Efficient airflow design for GIGABYTE AORUS GeForce GTX 1080Ti on: June 03, 2017, 01:14:52 PM
it sucks in a case,  dont run it in a case

unless the case has a big fan  on the side

Thanks for the tip and links philip, that was really useful.  To be honest with you this entire hunt for best airflow design came about when I realized that this beast will suck when enclosed in a typical case. I also believe no case exist that might hold 6 of these comfortably with enough spacing to help with airflow.

And so I wanted to build a custom case with these beasts in mind and wanted to identify the best possible placement of fans to help with heat dissipation.

Regarding the radiator fans, are they good enough to run 24/7? To be honest, I never had experience with them so I don't have much info on them.

Added Later:
I found this link about fans life time, hope this helps

*snip*
In a typical gaming computer with one card there's plenty of space to pull air from.

*snip*
I have a couple of these cards in an open rig with about 6-8cm in beween them and they're the coolest.

*snip*

Thank you very much for your insight. I really appreciate that  Smiley  After reading the above I tried to see if giving more space will run them cool, but unfortunately in my case they didn't cool down much Sad  Here is what I did.

GPU1 <--15cm Gap-->GPU2 <--15CM Gap--> GPU3 <--15CM Gap--> GPU4

And set the fan speed to 70% and and the room temperature is about 30C and the GPU temperature are as follows

GPU1    72
GPU2    74
GPU3    73
GPU4    74

But when I place a external fan in-between the gpus like below the they cool down a lot.

GPU1 <--15cm Gap-->60CFM Fan<--3CMGap-->GPU2 <--15cm Gap-->60CFM Fan<--3CMGap-->GPU3 <--15cm Gap-->60CFM Fan<--3CMGap-->GPU4

GPU1    63 Fan Speed 60%
GPU2    65 Fan Speed 60%
GPU3    63 Fan Speed 60%
GPU4    63 Fan Speed 60%

This external fan runs on 12v and has an rpm of 1300 moving about 60CFM, and I wanted to test a theory that, the GPU fans are very good in moving the heat away from the GPU chip but don't have enough force to push the heat away from the gpu unit itself.

So I changed the power to the external fans from 12v to 5v and the RPM fell a lot(I don't have exact count to be honest) and I am sure they are not pushing 60CFM now. And now the same setup as above produced different results

GPU1    67 Fan Speed 60%
GPU2    69 Fan Speed 60%
GPU3    68 Fan Speed 60%
GPU4    67 Fan Speed 60%

So I am of the option that the GPU fan are good in moving the heat away from the chip but they don't have enough muscle to push the heat away from the unit itself. So an external force pushing air in its direction helps a lot.

If my conclusion is wrong then I am sorry about it, I don't have a thermographic camera  at hand, so its all just hot air stuff  Wink

The external fan used is 120mm DeepCool XFan 120L/B Case fan.

Regarding enclosing these beasts I afraid customs cases is the way forward Sad

I have ordered Silverstone Tek 140mm FHP-141 case fan and once that reaches I will try out a custom case setup of this beast and will post back results.

In the mean time if anyone have any ideas please share it here.

BLife
