1  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / nit picky accountant has probably insignificant critique of client terminology.. on: May 02, 2011, 03:59:40 AM
It's quite possible that this is not really all that important, but I just thought I'd share a quick observation about the client....

I notice that it refers to additions as "credits". This is not correct. Anything that increases an asset (checking account, savings account, investment accont, inventory, securities, car purchase, home purchase, etc) is a debit. Decreases to assets are credits.

If needed I can explain why. But that's the correct terminology from an accounting standpoint.

Just my .02BTC.
2  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Noob is frustrated with Bitcoin on: April 29, 2011, 06:57:41 PM
OK I really want to believe in Bitcoin but I am starting to feel bad about it. My client crashed a couple days ago and I still cannot restart it, even after downloading and reinstalling again.  Sad

Next I changed the pw at mybitcoin and now I cannot login. There is no link for resetting a password or for contacting them externally - you have to sign into the site in order to contact them.  Sad

I am not an idiot, nor am I ignorant of website logins (I have my own website), installing and running programs, etc. I'm not an IT person but I have been on the internet since 2000 and I am a QB consultant, so I am not completley unaware of IT/internet stuff.

I keep reading how the people here want Bitcoin usage to expand, but my honest impression to this point is that one has to be a programmer to make Bitcoin work.

Can anybody help this noob get off the ground successfully with Bitcoin?

If you have questions about QuickBooks or need help with financial statements or bookkeeping, send me a PM. I am offering my services in exchange for Bitcoin (or dollars).

Edit 08-16-2011:

ps - I don't do other people's accounting homework so don't ask.

4  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Where did my Bitcoins go? on: April 29, 2011, 02:34:29 AM
Hi all,

I am brand new to Bitcoin. Here's my problem. My bitcoins disappeared and I don't know how to get them back.

A few days ago I signed up for an account at mybitcoin, then went to Bitcoin faucet to get some Bitcoins. After a few minutes I saw .05 bitcoins my my account there.

Then I decided to get my own wallet, so I downloaded the software from the homepage here. Ran the software, then tried to move the bitcoins from mybitcoin to the wallet. As soon as I made the transfer, the wallet crashed. I cannot open the wallet now, and the bitcoins are no longer in mybitcoin.

What happened? I'm running Windows 7 Home edition. Thanks.
5  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Question from newb about accepting Bitcoins for payment... on: April 25, 2011, 02:26:07 PM
Hey there,

Been reading all I can find about Bitcoin and it sounds really great. I'm super excited about it. I am s/e and in a position to accept Bitcoins in exchange for my services.

I want to make sure I understand how I accept them. From what I can see, if somebody wants to pay with Bitcoins all I do is give them my Bitcoin password/key that I got from MyBitcoin.com. Is this correct? Is it really that easy or am I missing something?

Also, right now I would tie the Bitcoin price to the dollar, but I am afraid of the dollar inflating greatly. How do I manage the Bitcoin price for my services if/when the dollar begins to inflate greatly?

Thank you for your time.

Jennifer
