1  Economy / Trading Discussion / Calling all Australian Bitcoiners! on: December 12, 2013, 07:18:19 AM
Has anyone had any trouble from the Commonwealth bank due to using exchanges?

While we're on the topic, has anyone had any trouble with other banks?
2  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Just got a Litecoin/Peercoin wallet on: December 01, 2013, 03:36:25 AM
In retrospect, I wish I'd looked into the alts a lot sooner as I've known about Bitcoin for some time now. Oh well. Has anyone else jumped on this recently?

Do any kind souls want to send me a few (old-money) cents? Smiley

Adobe hack attack affected 38 million accounts

What does everyone think? I feel like there's been so many high profile hacks lately that people have lost interest. The internet wasn't made for sensitive information...

5  Other / Off-topic / Different types of Captcha's you've seen. on: July 04, 2013, 02:41:28 AM
I just completed a Captcha where I had to "make a sundae" out of some floating ingredients. It's definitely the strangest one I've seen so far.

Have you seen any other interesting captchas?
6  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / My website idea on: June 29, 2013, 06:34:10 AM
I have three weeks until my holidays are over and I've been wanting to give something back to the Bitcoin community for a long time now. I guess I'll tell you a bit about the idea that I had, then you can tell me what you think. If you think it's stupid, tell me. If you think I could change something to make it succeed, tell me. If you want something else entirely, tell me and I'll consider it.

My idea is basically a King of the Hill style advertising game whereby players will try and outbid other players to get their advertisement higher on the homepage. There will be about 10 or so ads on the homepage, and possibly an option to show ads that fall below this tier. The advertisements will possibly require a special deal or coupon or something to entice visitors and be Bitcoin related. An ad's points will slowly "bleed", causing them to lose their current position. This will make it easier for people to get their ad on top if someone comes in with a large bid.

Of course, visitor stats (including number of clicks on the ad) will be made public so the advertiser can determine whether or not the ad space is worth it. However, I envisage this being a cheap (and fun?) way to advertise for people that are currently looking for ways to show off current offers that they have going.

What do you guys think? Have I missed a service that does something like this already? If I get a lot of negative feedback on this thread, I'll know that I'm probably going to be wasting my time and won't bother developing it.
7  Other / Meta / Threaded PM's on: June 27, 2013, 01:51:51 AM
TL;DR Threaded PM's would be awesome.

Seriously, the current PM system sucks. I hate having someone reply a few days later and having to search for what I sent them. Quoting their message is a workaround, but I don't see the detriment that threaded PM's would cause.
8  Other / MultiBit / Option for mBTC on: June 27, 2013, 12:36:40 AM
I know this issue has probably been raised before, but with the price of Bitcoins rising, have you thought about adding an option for displaying balances in mBTC?

10  Other / MultiBit / Wallet location saved somewhere? on: June 12, 2013, 02:15:00 PM
Sometimes I forget to mount my truecrypt drive before I open MultiBit. I then realise what a dreadful mistake I've made, close MultiBit, mount the drive (heh), and re-open MultiBit. Then I have to wait for any wallets I had open to sync which takes a little while (more so when you have more than one wallet syncing after another). What's really annoying is when I accidentally hit the shortcut for it, which (obviously) does the same thing.

You'd probably know a better solution for this than I do, so I won't try and think of one Smiley Anyway, it's not like this is a necessity, but it would be pretty handy to have eventually.

Cheers.

12  Other / Beginners & Help / Newbie complaints compilation on: June 08, 2013, 08:04:09 AM
Most of the non-newbie members will know what I'm talking about, some of the Newbie's might even know. I'm talking about the steady influx of threads complaining about the newbie limitations.

Since I have nothing better to do on a Saturday night, I thought I'd spend 10 minutes creating an incomplete compilation of all these threads. So here it is...

Who else thinks the 5 posts / 4 hours rule is nonsence?
It's stupid that newbies must make 5 posts and browse for 4 hours. Here's why
What is the point of 5 worthless posts?
Newbie here - Issue posting
Noob level up?
the 4 hours rule question
4 Hours and 6 Posts what else
over 4 hours on the forum but still no rights?
The reason for the 5 posts/4 hrs rule

It's certainly a work in progress, I'll add more as time goes on. Who knows, maybe this thread will get stickied and all the noobs will stop posting these threads? I dream of this day.

These threads are almost as bad as the ones who expect Jr. status the very nanosecond they reach the 4 hour limit, and if they don't, they post about it.

So this thread is more of a heartfelt thank you to all those newbies that don't start new posts regarding either of these topics Smiley Have a good day.

I really like jackjack's profile picture and associated text, so I thought I'd immortalise it with it's very own topic.

15  Other / MultiBit / Blockchain reset starts eariler than specified on: June 06, 2013, 01:33:23 AM
Hey guys, I'm not sure if this issue has been raised before or if I'm missing something but whenever I try to reset the blockchain to the day before, it starts ~a few weeks before the day that I specify. Is there a minimum timeframe for this action/is this normal?

It also appears that the reset blockchain feature has sped up a lot since upgrading, nice work Smiley

17  Other / Off-topic / Pentesters? on: June 04, 2013, 07:07:20 AM
I'm quite curious, since this is a community full of computer-literate individuals, is anyone here currently employed as a pentester/security consultant or something similar?

This is the field I want to try and get into eventually and I'd like to hear your story Smiley
18  Other / Off-topic / How many Tor users does it take to screw in a light bulb? on: June 02, 2013, 11:09:30 AM
... Only a few, but you’ll never know who did it.

A Tor user walks into a bar, the bartender says “who are you?”

I used Tor last night and now my wife says that she doesn’t even know who I am any more.

19  Economy / Services / [0.01 BOUNTY - CLAIMED] I want a new avatar on: May 31, 2013, 12:50:47 PM
Quite simply, I want an animated avatar. Same picture, but with a light and dark shade of orange in the background. I'm sure it's not that hard, but I just can't be bothered looking into it right now. Keep it simple Tongue
