1  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Odd behavior with Gigabyte 7970 / cgminer on: February 02, 2014, 07:49:34 PM
Ok, so one of my Gigabyte 7950's died and it was RMA'd with a 7970.  When I try to run the 7970 this is what I see in cgminer (I unhooked the 7950's to help troubleshoot):

Has anyone experienced this and know how to fix it?  I've tried different versions of cgminer.

The drivers are good and the device is detected properly.  Here is the output from aticonfig:

Code:
root@bmoconno:/# aticonfig --list-adapters
* 0. 01:00.0 AMD Radeon HD 7900 Series

* - Default adapter
root@bmoconno:/#

and here is the output from cgminer with the -n flag:

Code:
root@bmoconno:/# cgminer -n

2  Economy / Computer hardware / [SOLD] 6x Rosewill 10 port USB 2.0 Hubs! (RHB-500) on: December 19, 2013, 01:57:11 AM
I recently got rid of my USB miners, and I find myself with a surplus of USB Hubs.

These are all in perfect working condition and 100% compatible with the Raspberry Pi.  These are capable of powering 8 500mA devices (USB Miners) without any problems.

I'm looking for $15 each (in BTC @ BitStamp Rate), and I will pay for shipping if someone buys all of them!

NOTE:  I am located in the US and unfortunately, I don't believe I will be shipping internationally, as I've never done that and it seems like a bit of a hassle… sorry International Crypto-Coiners  Cry

4  Bitcoin / Hardware / ASICMiner Backplane Questions. on: November 01, 2013, 09:40:26 PM
I've searched around, but I'm not having a huge amount of success with answering some of these questions.  Any help would be greatly appreciated!

NOTE:  All questions pertain to Version 2 Blades/Backplane.

  • 1)  Can any PSU that uses the same Proliant ML350 ML370 and DL380 G5 Server connections be used with a backplane?

  • 2)  What's the draw per blade?  I've read as little as 60w and as high as 90w from various sources.  Conventional wisdom says 32x2.5w=80w, but that doesn't leave headroom for the other hardware on the board.

  • 3)  I've read that using an ATX power supply is compatible, but I haven't seen exactly how to connect one.  Will I be able to make my own molex to feed the backplane?

  • 4)  Are there any molex or other ports on the backplane that allow for the connection of fans?

  • 5)  What does the bottom of the backplane look like?  Are there solder points/connection exposed?  Does this need to sit on a non-conductive surface?

  • 6)  Q:  Do I need to run ethernet to each blade? or just one to the backplane?
A:  Each blade needs it's own ethernet cable ran to it.

Thanks for your time and information!

6  Economy / Lending / [Filled-Repayed] Short Term Loan with LTC as Collateral on: September 23, 2013, 12:09:48 AM
Howdy!

Who am I?  My name is Brian O'Connor, I've been mining LTC for awhile now and have been a primary contributing member on the WeMineCrypto forums, mostly helping with Hardware/Miner Configuration.  My username there is bmoconno-ltc (https://www.weminecryptos.com/forum/user/54-bmoconno-ltc/) and my Facebook page is http://www.facebook.com/bmoconno I can be reached at bmoconno<you know what goes here>mtu.edu for further confirmation of my identity.

How much?:  I am interested in a short term loan of around 6.16 4.5 BTC.

What's it for?:  The loan will to be used for the purchase of mining hardware from user ssinc's current Group Buy (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=296301.0).

Really? ...Mining?:  I realize that mining isn't really a profitable endeavor at this level especially with faster hardware always being developed.  I'm not really interested in making money off mining BTC, this is more of a hobby and will likely be incorporated into an off-grid solar powered mining system as a proof of concept.

Story Time!:  I have the funds to cover the purchase in USD, but the price discrepancy between BTC and USD (nearly $200 difference) is just too much for me to leave on the table.  I didn't realize that buying BTC off of a site like Coinbase takes nearly a full week (2-3 Days to verify account + 3-4 Days to transfer funds), causing a slight time constraint with the Group Buy ending on or around September 26th.

Collateral (not the Tom Cruise movie):  I currently have 250 LTC that I can put up as collateral.

What's in it for you?  That's for you to decide, I'd obviously like to pay as little interest as possible while also dealing with someone who has an established reputation as a reliable lender.

Please reply with offers, and if I find the terms acceptable, we will work the details here.

Thanks!

Brian O'

Edited:  Added more about myself, to help soothe the savage unicorn beast.
7  Other / Beginners & Help / New In Town... on: September 21, 2013, 08:07:04 PM
...is a great comedy special from John Mulaney.

Also, I'm new here, so obviously I decided to post in the newbie section a "Hello World" post that will mostly never be read (except by other people who can't post on the forum yet, and possibly by moderators to ensure that I'm a real person... with feelings... and hopes... and dreams.).  I understand the need for new forum members to undergo this process of first having a legitimate post, then waiting a few hours before being able to do anything significant on the board... but I don't have to like it!

A bit about me:  I'm a guy and I like computers.  This basically means I'm a freshly falling snowflake (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Snowflake#Uniqueness), and totally unlike the rest of you.  I've been mining LTC for nearly a year on the WeMineLTC pool, and have thoroughly enjoyed the experience.  I was, for a while, a primary contributor on their forum when people experienced problems or needed technical assistance with cgminer and their mining hardware.

Why I'm here:  I always felt like I "missed the bus" when it came to mining BTC (I've bought lots of BTC as an investment and to help show support for crypto-currencies.), but now that I have a collection of LTC rigs up and running I decided that I'd like to add some USB BTC miners to my systems.  I like that they have very minimal power consumption and that they are fairly cheap.  I know that I won't get rich, or probably even break even, with a small collection of USB miners... but I believe in the future of crypto, so I'll just keep holding onto whatever I produce and see how it goes.

Why are you still reading this:  Honestly, you probably aren't.  If you are, I'd like to reward you with a joke that you'd probably recognize from a certain TV show.

What did one Snowman say to the other Snowman?  Smells like carrots...

Anyways, thanks for you time and if you're reading this from a mobile device I'm sorry for wasting a bit of your data package.
