61  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Substratum (SUB) suffers a similar vulnerability as the Oyster (PRL) scam on: October 31, 2018, 11:30:38 AM
If you've not been reading the news lately, the CEO of Oyster Pearl abused a vulnerability in their smart contract to create 3 million new PRL out of thin air and dump them on the market.

https://etherscan.io/address/0x1844b21593262668b7248d0f57a220caaba46ab9#readContract
Quote
Number 18 - directorLock "false"

For those that don't know, this essentially allows the owner to do literally anything he wants, which in this case meant creating 3 million tokens out of thin air and giving them to himself to sell. As a result, the market has crashed and all PRL owners have lost about 90% of their money overnight.

Now, on to Substratum. Have a look at their smart contract here, particularly at line 136:

https://etherscan.io/address/0x12480e24eb5bec1a9d4369cab6a80cad3c0a377a#code

Code:
function mintToken(address target, uint256 mintedAmount) onlyOwner {
balanceOf[target] += mintedAmount;
totalSupply += mintedAmount;
Transfer(0, this, mintedAmount);
Transfer(this, target, mintedAmount);
}

This essentially lets them do the same thing. At any time they want, they can just create a thousand, a million, a billion new tokens out of thin air and give them to themselves to dump. This is without even mentioning that the 120 million tokens they supposedly burnt weren't burnt at all. They are here: https://etherscan.io/address/0xd41d37f9865cc121f71957e6eafb09cbdc98d6c3#tokentxns But it's OK though, cause the devs have totally promised that they deleted the private key to that wallet.

Now I'm not saying they will mint more tokens, but it's incredibly shady they wrote in the ability to let them if they wanted, and also incredibly shady to say they are doing a token burn and actually just send the tokens to another wallet that they created. If was holding any SUB, I would be selling it ASAP.
62  Economy / Reputation / Alt Farm (Adding 20 accounts per day) on: October 20, 2018, 08:57:55 PM
I first noticed it in this thread: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5051956.msg47094011#msg47094011

4 accounts with similar sounding names all posted a generic one liner (two of them exact copies of each other) within the space of 3 minutes. I found it suspicious and decided to go digging.

Turns out there are many accounts following the same pattern of behavior. A random selection of usually 4 (occasionally between 2 and 5) of the below accounts will show up in a thread and all post a spammy one liner in the space of a few minutes. It's their entire post history and is happening constantly - enough to conclude all these accounts are part of an alt farm. I had started to link to threads and make screenshots, but there's no point - just click on literally any post by any of the accounts below and you will see what I mean. I'm sure I'm only scratching the surface here.

63  Economy / Scam Accusations / Allcoinhodler - Fake Team - Scam on: October 18, 2018, 09:33:51 AM
I've seen threads popping up in various boards about "Allcoinhodler" being promoted by several newbie accounts. Apart from being an obvious Ponzi, they also have a fake team. Example threads:

User KriptoA (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?action=profile;u=2296390) constantly and repeatedly starts new threads in bursts, each with his massive, obnoxious, self-advertising banner and links across the top. He's just done it again with the following 4 threads:

65  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Rampant Collusion in EOS Exposed by Huobi Leak on: September 30, 2018, 09:43:57 AM
https://www.trustnodes.com/2018/09/29/rampant-collusion-in-eos-exposed-by-huobi-leak

I've been warning people about the scam that is EOS for months, but I'm usually met with the same vapid responses of "great team" and "to the moon". This has surely got to be the nail in the coffin for even the most die-hard/ignorant/stupid EOS holder. They are literally using your tokens to reciprocally vote for each other to cement their position at the top of the centralized pyramid, so they can continue to claim the reward of $10,000 per day of freshly printed-out-of-thin-air EOS.

This is going to go the way of Bitconnect. If you are still holding when it falls to zero, you have absolutely no one to blame but yourself. The evidence has been right in front of your eyes for months.
66  Other / Meta / Plagiarism is on the rise - be vigilant. on: September 20, 2018, 10:22:37 AM
It would seem that many of the deranked newbies, instead of learning a little bit about the forum and trying to make a single good post, have just resorted to frank plagiarism instead. Can't say I'm surprised. I've reported (and mods have banned) 10+ new topics in just the last hour or so, all from newbies with 200+ posts and 0 merit, that were just straight copy-and-paste jobs.

I would encourage everyone to turn on "Show post count" (Profile - Forum Profile Information - Show post count by posts). If you see anything well written by a newbie with lots of posts and zero merit, be suspicious of plagiarism - if they had been writing well for hundreds of posts, chances are they would have been merited by now. More often than not their entire post history is one-line spam and bounty reports until 2 days ago.
67  Economy / Reputation / Users abusing merit to level up their alts to Junior Member on: September 17, 2018, 08:49:06 PM
Been keeping an eye on the recent merit page today.

Have found the following users abusing their merit to rank up many newbie accounts, usually for insubstantial posts. I wonder why that could be?  Roll Eyes

unamis76 - BPIP Merit Page

Vinylriff - BPIP Merit Page

jjoshua - BPIP Merit Page

zanzibar - BPIP Merit Page

Prettymie - BPIP Merit Page

In addition to leveling up a few newbies himself, this user has funneled some merit via two other accounts that have also used it to level up newbies:
Kuflama - BPIP Merit Page
amorfuse - BPIP Merit Page

babicena14 - BPIP Merit Page

Feel free to use this thread to list other offenders.
68  Other / Meta / Question about reports in trashed threads on: September 15, 2018, 08:25:25 PM
A couple of days ago I went through the thread of an ICO that had been busted as a scam, and reported all the "Great project", "Nice team", "Looks good" type posts.

Looking at my report list today, it seems the entire thread was trashed for offering an incentive to bump. The first 20 or so reports were marked as good, but the last 9 were marked as bad.

If a thread is trashed, are all outstanding reports in it marked as bad?

70  Economy / Reputation / Group of likely alt accounts promoting scams on: September 13, 2018, 09:56:40 AM
So, after we busted bataoucheusma for his fake ICO (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5024437.0), he suddenly got 3 positive trusts left to him in the same day, from users hardcod3r, bithashx, and meegaa.

All three of these accounts were bumping this scam with an hour or two of it being posted, as you can see here (Archive: https://archive.is/PmL3C):

Looking back at their previous posts, bithashx posted an ICO for a project called "Bithash" here, which now has a dead website, twitter, telegram and Eth address - another likely scam. Three of these users show up again within minutes of each other to bump the topic as you can see here (Archive: https://archive.is/y5Dhp):

There is also another account bithashp with obviously a very similar name, that was created, made no posts, left bataoucheusma positive trust, and then was never active again.

What do we think? Is this enough evidence to tag these accounts?

74  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Firefox To Block Tracking And Hidden Mining By Default In Future Versions on: September 01, 2018, 12:45:23 PM
https://bloqwire.com/firefox-to-block-tracking-and-hidden-mining-by-default-in-future-versions/

This is a nice development, and they are also blocking third party cookies, tracking and browser fingerprinting by default. Now obviously you should have configured your Firefox to already do all these things, but its a nice development for your average Joe that doesn't really understand crypto, security or privacy that well.

Provided you aren't already using something better like Tor, I would encourage everyone to move away from browsers like Chrome and towards Firefox for your own privacy and security.

So we can add that to the following list of EOS "features":

Accounts can be frozen with no notice or recourse
Funds can be confiscated with no notice or recourse
Transactions can be reversed with no notice or recourse
Centralized
Double spending
5% inflation

At this point, you have to be wilfully ignorant to buy, own or hold EOS. EOS is an embarrassment. Sell this scam coin ASAP.

79  Other / Meta / New new ultimate guide to ranking up as fast as possible (MODERATOR IN 7 WEEKS) on: April 01, 2018, 07:08:07 AM
We have all by now seen the theymos’ New new rank requirements.

Previously a lot of people were posting questions about the ranking system, so I decided to simplify it. Just put the highest-order 10 bits of each number into a grid in this configuration:

Then run Conway's Game of Life on the cells. If the cells never stop moving even after infinite steps, then you advance to the next rank.

And so I present:

o_e_l_e_o’s Ultimate guide to ranking up as fast as possible with minimum effort.

The stats we will be using to rank up are activity (same as before), imagination (number of images posted), virtue (see quote from theymos below), and coins (how many different coins you have invested in). This guide does not require any merit, smerit, fmerit, politeness OR karma, so you can continue to shitpost, spam and scam and still rank up!

The seven virtues are chastity, temperence, charity, diligence, patience, kindness, and humility. Any true Bitcoiner will fully exemplify all seven virtues, of course.

Week 1 (Newbie to Junior):

Make a single post with a single picture and being kind to one person to earn exactly one activity, one imagination and one virtue. Invest in one coin only. Your grid will look like this:

Week 2 (Junior to Member):

Repeat the above post. Buy another coin. Your grid will look like this:

Week 3 (Member to Full):

Little more complex now. Make one more post, again displying one virtue, but this time with three pictures.

Week 4 (Full to Senior):

One more post this week. This one needs five pictures and four virtue (I suggest being diligently and humbly patient and kind to a fellow user).

Week 5 (Senior to Hero):

Make three posts with a combined total of one picture.

Week 6 (Hero to Legendary):

One more post with one picture.

Week 7 (Legendary to a new rank theymos will have to create just for you):

One post with nothing.

By this point you will be less than 2 months on Bitcointalk, have made 9 posts in total, and be a global moderator or better. You are welcome!
80  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Dear Cybermiles Team - Why many will never invest in your coin on: March 26, 2018, 10:29:38 AM
I'm sure I am not the only person that has noticed the ridiculous amount of Cybermiles (CMT) spam across the forum over the last week or so. There have been posts in pretty much every board, including Development & Technical Discussion, Mining and Technical Support (i.e. completely inappropriate). I have seen off-topic replies in multiple threads about completely different subjects shilling Cybermiles. The posts are pretty much exclusively from Junior Members with Cybermiles signatures, in broken English, make little to no sense, and are 0% facts and 100% vacuous spam. It is clear that you have set up a bounty program to pay these morons to spam the forum.

Here is just a small sample of some of the utter nonsense that has been spammed:

"Cybermiles is more smarter than etherum"

"You, me and CMT will go to the moon."

"Cybermiles is wonderful project. It will bring the useful for the user by applying the token in 5Miles app."

"soon Cybermiles launch testnet online, this become very beneficial for us"

"I very happy join and support this project ,bacause this cybermiles project have good future.i believe that !"

"I learned that the CMC Blockchain (CryberMiles) release will fix all Bitcoin errors"

I, and anyone else with half a brain, will never invest in this coin. Firstly, not a single one of the posts I came across told me anything useful about Cybermiles. Having read 100+ shitposts about it, all I know is that it is "better than Ethereum" and "going to the moon". Laughable. Secondly, if these people are your community, these illiterate, unknowledgeable, spamming shills are your community, count me out - I'll stick to coins where you can actually have an educated conversation about them, and not ones that prey on idiots to support them and spam their brand.
