Bitcoin / Meetups / Bitcoiners needed in Wyoming, Nebraska, Iowa, Illinois, etc.
|

Hi All, We are making a documentary film Life On Bitcoin. about a couple living on bitcoin for the first 90 days of their marriage. You can learn more on our website at http://www.lifeonbitcoin.com. Austin and Beccy, the newlywed couple are making a cross country trip with members of the film crew. We are renting a van, and the car dealership is renting it for bitcoin! The trip starts on October 12th from Provo, Utah. We need help getting food, gas and lodging along the way. We have bitcoin to pay for these things, but we need businesses and people who will accept it. There are two possible routes we can take, and we need to find bitcoiners in Wyoming, Colorado, Nebraska, Missouri, Iowa, Illinois, Indiana, Ohio, Pennsylvania and New York City area. We will only be spending bitcoin. We are prepared to camp or sleep in the car if we have to, but we would prefer to sleep in beds in small motels or hotels. Our goal is to get businesses to accept bitcoin directly, but if we have to use intermediaries to survive we will, as that falls within our rules. It is a last resort. We are about halfway through our 90 day challenge, and we have been able to get almost 30 businesses to accept our bitcoin directly here locally and online. It would be really neat to meet and interview some cool bitcoin enthusiasts on our journey. Please message me if you can help! Thanks, Theron H. LifeOnBitcoin.com

Economy / Economics / Daily Transaction Volume is Nearing Record - What gives?
|
on: August 16, 2013, 06:52:32 PM
|
So I was cruising around over at Blockchain.info, and I see that the daily transaction volume is at 68586 which puts today 8-16-13 in the top 5 or 6 days in the history of bitcoin for transaction volume. It is approaching the same levels as in April and mid-May. However, when I correlate this data with three of the top ranked exchanges: Mt Gox, Bitstamp and BTC-E, I see that they all have tepid or even low volume in the last 24 hours. What is happening? Are grassroots payments by BTC spreading like crazy, or is it the automatic updates to overcome the Android security flaw?
The volume has been rising significantly for about two weeks.
Thoughts?

Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Ridley's Grocery Store accepting bitcoin from Life On Bitcoin couple
|
on: August 15, 2013, 11:43:39 PM

Great news! The Ridley's grocery store chain, Lolo's Fresh Food Warehouse and an Ace Hardware owned by Ridley's are going to accept bitcoin payment from Beccy and Austin, the Life On Bitcoin documentary movie couple. This is a trial run, and Mark (an executive at Ridley's corporate) said Ridley's would be interested in expanding their acceptance of bitcoin and looking for options to integrate it, so they can offer it to more of their customers at the point of sale if this goes well. We will see. You can read about it in more detail on our blog here http://lifeonbitcoin.com/lifeonbitcoin-day-22-progress-report-breakthrough/ We'll keep the updates coming here and on our Facebook and Twitter. Cheers, Theron H. LifeOnBitcoin.com

Bitcoin / Mining / KnCMiner is sponsoring Life On Bitcoin
|
on: August 14, 2013, 06:24:30 PM

KnCMiner is one of the official sponsors of the Life On Bitcoin film. They are sending us a Jupiter Mining rig from their first production run (we anticipate receiving it sometime in September), and Austin and Beccy will share the setup process of the machine via our blog, Youtube channel and other social media. We will provide updates on our website and social media to show how much the machine has mined. The places to follow updates for the Life On Bitcoin film project is via Facebook and Twitter. http://www.facebook.com/lifeonbitcoinhttp://www.twitter.com/lifeonbitcoinThanks, Theron H. Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Grocery store for Life On Bitcoin Film Couple - crossing fingers
|
on: August 13, 2013, 10:25:52 PM
|
Very cool stuff happening here in Provo. This morning Austin had a phone call with one of the executives at the corporate offices of a local large format grocery store. They want to help us with our project, and they are going to let us pay in bitcoin! Not only that, this company has about two dozen stores in four different states.
We can't tell you the name of the store yet, because we haven't worked out all the details. We also don't know when they are going to make bitcoin purchasing available to everyone, but step-by-step we are making progress. Another cool fact about this development is the same company owns a local hardware store and a gas station, and they are going to let us pay in bitcoin at all of these locations.

Economy / Marketplace / Bitmunchies.com delivers
|
on: August 09, 2013, 08:46:08 PM
|
I'm involved with the Life On Bitcoin film project. (You can learn about it on our website at lifeonbitcoin.com.) I was a little concerned the other day when Austin and Beccy decided to make an order from bitmunchies.com to help stock their pantry, as they have not yet persuaded a full line local grocer to accept bitcoin. I had found scant current information out there about BitMunchies, and some of what I was reading made me concerned that it might be a scam to collect free BTC on the part of the site owner.
I'm happy to report that Austin and Beccy started receiving their order yesterday. It is in a couple of separate boxes, so it did not all deliver at once, but I thought it might be useful to put out there that the service seems fully legitimate. I just felt it would be useful for folks to know that the storied BitMunchies is once again a real business, and is actively operating.
BitMunchies would certainly do themselves a favor if they updated their contact page with more confidence building information such as the owner's name or a phone number. More reviews would be helpful too.
We will update if we have any problems down the road with it. Austin and Beccy are still working to bring a local grocer onboard. We really want that to happen!

Other / Beginners & Help / Life On Bitcoin Docu Film - Urgent - Need Casascius Coins for opening scene
|
on: July 15, 2013, 03:53:34 AM
|
Hello All,
This is Theron (real name) with the Life On Bitcoin documentary film project. It is a documentary about bitcoin and about a couple who have agreed to live for 90 days on BTC. Our film just funded on Kickstarter late last week on July 12th, and we raised almost $73,000 in fiat currency. We've also raised about 30 BTC, and we are continuing to accept bitcoin contributions on our website, as the documentary film makers whom we have retained are going to cost more than $115,000 to get the movie we want. You can search "life on bitcoin" on Google or Kickstarter and find out a lot more about it if you want. We have been in some major press outlets.
I'm going to be getting more active in the forums to answer people's questions, and raise awareness about our project.
However, right now, I have a bit of an emergency need. Austin and Beccy, the couple which stars in the documentary are currently on their honeymoon. They fly back in less than 10 days, and I need to get some Casascius Coins for the opening scene. When they fly back, all of their cash, credit cards, etc are going to be confiscated at the airport, and we want them to use Casascius Coins to get home. Basically, they are going to need to find someone or a taxi service who will accept the coin or coins and give them a ride.
I need to purchase 2 Casascius Coins in the 1 BTC denomination and 2 in the 1/2 BTC denomination. These need to be in new condition pre-loaded with the holograms unpeeled.
I have tried to contact Mike Caldwell with Casascius directly, but he must be on vacation or something as he is not returning emails or facebook messages. I actually met him at the Salt Lake City Bitcoin Meetup a couple of weeks ago, but I did not get a chance to talk to him about this before he left.
I would like to buy these from someone in the United States, and ship them FedEx. I have the FedEx account. I'm willing to pay a good premium for the coins. Alternately, if you want to donate them to the film. I'm sure I can arrange an interview on our vlog or some way to compensate and promote your business. If you have the coins to sell, I want to use a trusted escrow to make the deal. I also want to buy them from a trusted bitcointalk forum member. Any recommendations would be great!
I need this to happen fast. Time is of the essence. Please reply or message me if you can help.
