2  Economy / Trading Discussion / private trades on: April 23, 2018, 01:06:12 PM
Are there any subforums or forums that facilitate user->user transfers?  For instance if you want to trade one currency for another directly with the individual and bypass exchanges.  Completely private.

My nubness is showing here because I can't seem to find anything like that and I figured it would be around.

And I understand you risk being ripped off by some scumbag without the exchange middle man being in the picture.  If you're comfortable with the risk and want to split the transaction up into two parts to help then why not.

4  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / vega soft power tables on: April 15, 2018, 11:08:14 PM
Please explain.

The GPU is in the higher power states (mem_p3 and gpu_p7) when you are mining or gaming.  Very little time spent in lower p states.

Why do miners care about setting lower p states up?
5  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Vega closed case on: April 13, 2018, 09:52:19 PM
I'm trying to mine cryptonight with two asus rog vegas in a closed case.  Air flow and ambient temps are fine.

Fans on both gpu 80%.  One gpu is much warmer than the other which seems common in closed case dual gpu systems.

I have tried using wattman to lower the power -25% and downclock the memory to mem_p3=800;850.  gpu_p6=1212;905 and gpu_p7=1407;950.

I have not tried (yet) to adjust lower pstates.  If I adjust the power setting down further it helps but hash bottoms out near 1080ti territory.

Am I wasting my time trying to get this card to run cooler?
6  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / adrenaline 18.3.4 missing compute toggle on: April 13, 2018, 02:28:13 AM
Is this normal behavior?

I have windows 10.  The 18.3.4 driver is not showing the compute toggle.  It just isn't there.

7  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / bitcoin tax support - can't import on: March 03, 2018, 03:45:53 PM
Does anyone here in the US use bitcoin.tax?  Their support is email only and slow to non-existent.

I am trying to get this thing to import mining income and it won't work.  Tried exporting directly from the wallet (LUX) and the CSV isn't accepted.  This is under Income tab and choosing Core.

I've also tried CSV and can't get it to work.  The software doesn't support importing directly from the LUX address either.

What is the trick to this or is it just more trouble than it's worth?  Trying to avoid having to calculate USD value for each payout manually in my spreadsheet.

Thanks
8  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / small pool query on: February 15, 2018, 01:27:49 PM
I understand it takes longer to find blocks.

Is there a point however where there is no hope of finding a block in any reasonable timeframe?

For instance if you are on a pool with only 3-5 miners.  And hash rate (phi algo) is in the 300 MH/s or less range.  Is it a complete waste of time?
9  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Max length gpu on: February 10, 2018, 05:55:17 AM
I have a couple 320mm GPU. Will they fit in a Veddha rig frame or will fans interfere?  Thanks
10  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / payout on demand on: January 31, 2018, 12:16:07 AM
Are there any pools other than MPH that do on-demand payouts?
11  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Pools (Altcoins) / Looking for pool - help please on: January 30, 2018, 08:37:25 PM
What pools are there that will allow you to control payouts?

MPH is the only one I know of.  Are there any others?
12  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / IRS ruining mining on: January 30, 2018, 04:04:55 AM
After reading more about the new US tax rules for crypto currency mining I'm really upset.

1) IRS wants you to keep track of every single payout in USD value.  Claim that as income.  Many pools have auto payout and do this 12x each day.  Keeping track of that is a nightmare!

2) After you have already paid a hefty income tax on the currency you mine.  You now have to pay another large tax on capital gains if you sell.

It is not difficult to predict up to 50% of what you mine going to pay taxes.  The only way around this is to lie and commit tax evasion.  If you're OK with that then you'll be in huge trouble if you ever get audited.

If you don't want to commit a crime then I don't see how this is worth it.  I'm seriously considering shutting my stuff down and selling while the GPU prices are through the roof.

IRS is ruining everything for us here in the US.  It is even worse for traders who have to keep track of every single trade they make.  Ridiculous!!
13  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / another riser question on: January 29, 2018, 01:43:48 PM
Good morning gentlemens.   Smiley

I purchase this riser kit:
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B077JYBDYT/ref=od_aui_detailpages00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

This psu:
https://www.evga.com/products/Product.aspx?pn=220-P2-1200-X1

Ideally I can power these riser with direct pci-e connector from the psu.  Problem is with several (1080ti) GPU I won't have enough cables or connectors to hook up risers and gpu with pci-e.

What is best option then?  Direct connection with molex from PSU?  Or use SATA adapters?

Many thanks.
14  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / nicehash - pros and cons on: January 25, 2018, 12:52:56 PM
Seems like nicehash isn't real popular around here.  I understand the hack and all - not good.

Seems like it would be easier to setup and run than constantly chasing different coins with different individual miners and wallets.  Most people here seem to dump their alts for bitcoin and then trade or cash out anyway which nicehash makes easier since they pay you direct in bitcoin.

What is the problem with it though?  What are the pros/cons?
15  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / 1080ti hardware - best privacy coin on: January 19, 2018, 01:59:08 PM
Been doing some reading and it seems like really Monero is as of now the best privacy coin.  Zcash maybe not bad too.  Everything else has one problem or another like rich lists, sender not concealed, etc..  Monero is difficult to mine and so is Zcash now.  With 1080ti hardware XMR in particular is a very bad option.  Both currencies are expensive to buy.

It would be nice to get away from mining coins that are either total scams or are fail in some other way like no use case, bad privacy, bad developers, etc..

Looking for pointers here from anyone who has experience and feels like sharing.  Please.  Doesn't strictly have to be a privacy coin either.

Not wanting to share and telling me to do my research is an acceptable answer too.  No feelers will be hurt.  I'm starting to look into it and it takes a lot of time which is one reason I do understand people guard their secrets.   Wink
16  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / confessions of a newb on: January 16, 2018, 02:12:03 PM
Got into mining with my gaming system recently.  Had no idea what I was "investing" in other than it seemed cool.

I've come to realize that unless you are trying to pump/dump which is not necessarily a piece of cake to time and also difficult to pull off with a small mining outfit.  It is real tough to figure out what are the more sound alt coin investments for long term and even if you figure out some good candidates they may or may not be good to mine with your hardware.

I am glad that I haven't bet the farm on mining this late in the game with so few good choices for a small time miner to produce.  All that said I am continuing to run my outfit for the sheer hobbyist enjoyment of the thing.  Mining with a computer is FUN to do as long as you haven't gotten in way over your head.  At this point I might lose a few thousand bucks on this that is the worst that can happen to me.

Other people who got WAY in deep may not be so lucky.

Anyone else feel the same?   Grin
17  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Yiimp invalid job id rejects on: January 08, 2018, 04:38:36 AM
I'm getting a lot of invalid job ID rejects on yiimp. This doesn't happen on zpool.  Same client and settings. Ccminer Alexis x17 algo.

What could cause this?  The stratum is full on yiimp could that be the issue?
18  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Pools (Altcoins) / pools that control payout on: January 01, 2018, 12:15:52 AM
It looks like yiimp and zpool don't allow you to control payout frequency.

This is a problem for those of us in the US who need to claim payouts as income on taxes.  We can't be sitting around logging every single payout through the whole day and what the market price was when it went through.  That is unworkable.

Is there some way to accomplish this?  MPH makes it easy.  I can queue a payout on demand or set the frequency to what I want.
19  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Newb observations.. on: December 14, 2017, 02:20:55 PM
After a couple weeks it seems we have a few different sorts of miners.

1)  Those that mine a particular type of coin, believe in it's worth, and that it will eventually increase in value substantially.  These are the "holders".

2)  Those that mine whatever is of the most profit at any given moment/day/week then frequently sell/convert it to something else.  The coin they mine may be a trashcoin - it doesn't matter to them one way or the other.

3)  Those that intentionally target trashcoins to mine/buy and attempt to pump/dump.

Have I got this figured out now or am I missing something?  Not trying to be judgmental btw.

Regarding those who fit into category 1.  It seems like one of the challenges here is to try and figure out, as a long term miner or investor, which currencies are going to be the good ones to hold onto.  For instance with privacy currencies there are several options out there that all have some merit one way or the other.  Will one eventually triumph out over the others?  Will there be room for more than one, two, etc. to flourish?  Who can say.

Currently I would place myself as a #1 however that may change as I read/learn more.  Would sure suck to mine a bunch of monero, zcash, etc. and hold it for a few years then have it do absolutely nothing in the long term.  I guess that is the risk those who are in it long term take.   Smiley
