Hello,
I have been using electrum for awhile now with no problems at all but suddenly now it's not working, say "not connected". I almost seem to remember reading somewhere that I should update the client, but I didn't see anything on their website about that. I'm on version 1.9.5 running on ubuntu 14.04. Or now that I write this maybe it quit working when I updated to ubuntu 14.04? Any ideas?

For example if I owned a business that wanted to go full open source software, is there anyone out there that could help me with solutions? Or what if I were just a long time Windows user who wanted to go with linux, but was intimidated by the learning curve and the Internet forums seems to geeky, is there a place for me to go?
What is the best place I can point someone to who might be interested in changing to open source software? Is there a one stop shopping for that?

Hello all,
I have a family member who is thinking about getting a new computer and I'm thinking about suggesting that they either just reformat their old one with Ubuntu (actually I would do it) or install Ubuntu after they buy the new computer. Now this family member is in their 50s and is not really that great on computers beyond facebook and other online games. So I'm sort of the IT guy in the family and my question is, should I suggest Ubuntu for this person or just the standard windows 8 which they would otherwise go for? My thinking is that it, Ubuntu, will work great actually because they spend 99.9% of their time in the browser. Thoughts?

Hi all,
I just tried to start up my qt client for the first time in a couple of weeks, after some hours of downloading the block it's now giving me the message "failed to write block" and it then closes the application. This is the latest version of the client on ubuntu 13.04. And actually I just want to get my coins into electrum because I'm tired of all the blockchain downloading business. any ideas?

Are there any wallets that can do automatic payments? For example if I wanted to pay a charity 1 mbit every month, the wallet would simply make that payment as long as it was running. I think if this doesn't exist, maybe it should, this would make it easier for people to donate or pay for services.

I've been spending a lot of time the past month trying to learn more and more about bitcoin with each week my efforts increasing even more than the previous week. I started to look at the understanding path as having four main levels.
1. Know nothing, or have only heard about bitcoin
2. Understand bitcoin from a user perspective
3. Understand in theory the full architecture and design of bitcoin
4. Understand bitcoin down to the code level
I feel hopeful about bitcoin in that getting from level 1 to level 2 only took me a short time, maybe a week thinking about it here and there, then finally starting to use it to buy a few things. I believe level 1 will be where 99.99% of users will be once bitcoin is mainstream. Now I feel like I'm somewhere in the middle of level 3, I have a good grasp of the theory of how the mechanics of the system work, however this step has taken a lot of time for me. I've literally watched hours of youtube videos on various encryption, networking and programming subjects, this was a big effort but I feel good that it's understandable now. I want to continue on and really understand how the code is functioning, how the protocol is working, etc, eventually I'd like to contribute in some way, even if that way is explaining bitcoin to folks in a new, maybe easier way.

Hi all, Right now I have a few projects on going, some I've already finished and others I'd like to work on in the future. Today I'm using google docs (see my page for example at www.Ecurb.info), and I have sort of a template I use which works ok. The main need I have is to have a web based place to document, manage and share these projects. So my question is, is there anything better, maybe more professional looking than what I have, which is also easy to use and inexpensive? |
