1  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Mini Solar Rigs - 100Watt Panels, 100 Watt ASIC's - 5MH/s at a time on: October 02, 2017, 05:14:48 AM
Hi Peeps.

Ive been questioning the possibility of building a solar farm for years! But I dont have Thousands to invest. All I am looking for is the pure profit that Solar would give after the investment has been paid off. I was looking at a modular setup of smaller rigs, each stand alone.

100 Watt Panels are very cheap on Ebay, around 100 dollars. I know I can get small rigs such as a Gridseed for less than 150 dollars, so then the question is, would it be worth putting as many of these together as possible, keeping each panel and gridseed blade 5-6MH/s as an individual circuit. Total cost with battery around 300 dolars each.

My thoughts are :-

Low Wattage is Safer, I wont be killing myself or any local cats.
Low Wattage does not require any legal CERTIFICATION from the powers that be.
I can build when I can afford, adding to the number of miners
More redundancy
Cheaper Batteries - as this seems to be the problem for any solar setup in terms of cycling and maintenance.

My question is, over a period of time, could such a set up be profitable enough?

Sorry if this question has been asked before.

Thanks
2  Other / Off-topic / Alternative uses for Clingfilm instead of wrapping food. on: May 15, 2017, 10:09:46 AM
Who would of thought....

This was suggested to me by a friend of mine.
  • I have successfully used clingfilm for masking tyres when painting rims. wrap around the circumference of tyre and tuck between tyre and rim.
  • I have used it for keeping bolts and engine parts together
  • I have wrapped it around the bristles on paint brushes after use -  rather than clean them. (stops paint hardening)

Do you have any other uses for clingfilm?
3  Other / Off-topic / Rattle Can Spray Paint Soft - How to Harden? Polishing? on: May 13, 2017, 09:17:01 PM
Does anyone have any tips for Making Spray Paint Harden?
I find that its always quite soft, despite painting in light layers, and waiting an hour before recoat.
I have even tried baking small parts in the oven on low heat to avoid bubbling, but this doesnt seem to work.

Has anyone every used spray cans to paint something and found that certain colours like black are oily, soft, and easy to push a finger nail into?

Im finding that sanding and polishing is helping, but paint is still soft!

Thanks

6  Economy / Speculation / Prediction - $1500 in 30 days - What do you think? on: April 27, 2017, 04:50:24 AM
I have seen a lot of news over the past 6 months, since BTC sold for around 600 dollars.
One thing that seems to have stood out in the news is the relentless positive attitude surrounding Bitcoin.
The price continues to thrive and big business wants a piece of the action.
Words such as 'decentralized' and 'blockchain' have become so common in start-up's and established business.
In a world where where we used to have emoji's we now have guides on emoji grammar. The online world is changing.  Shocked
I cant tell you all that I have any more knowledge than the average Bitcoin Miner.

So fro 600 to 1300 dollars in 6 months, My prediction is for BTC to hit $1500 in 30 days. That's my logic!

If it doesn't, I you have my word that I will not try to predict the future again, now where did I put my crystal ball....

Hey!

Please post your best non-swearing insult here.

It's always handy to have a 'comeback' for those people in life that truly deserve insulting.

Here are a few to get you going.

"You are like that first piece of bread, everyone touches you but nobody wants you!"

"Your Birth Certificate is an apology letter from Durex!"

"You have a face only a mother could love!"

8  Economy / Speculation / Bitcoin worth $500,000 dollars by 2030? Views and Comments on: April 11, 2017, 06:30:23 AM
Hey dudes,
I would be interested in your views and comments regarding this nugget of news.
You can google for full story of course!

First Snapchat investor says Bitcoin will be worth $500,000 dollars by 2030
Their argument is based on a growing usage for transferring money across borders and countries.

I personally think this is a little far fetched, although I never had the money or knowledge to invest in snapchat.
Perhaps I am not best qualified then to comment.

I know you guys are more knowledgeable than me, so let me know your views!

If this really is the case, even if BTC is worth 1/10th of that, its worth holding that fraction of Bitcoin for the future.

Will this cause more people to hold coins?

Any Whales out there thinking that they will finally be able to buy themselves a little Island all to themselves Cheesy ?

9  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Pool Hacked, Or Dishonest Pool, or Rig Rental ? - Exchange(s) Log-in Attempts on: March 25, 2017, 05:46:22 AM
Hey All,

BE AWARE AS ALWAYS

I am getting a few email notifications telling me that an attempt has been made to log in to :

C-CEX, and BTC-E (failed attempts)

I believe this to be a pool hack, username they are trying to log in with is the username I used for mining pools and mining pools only.
I have used it, about 4 years ago, when I first started mining, so its an old username.

Example Notification I have by email:

BTC-E - Unsucessful login
Login (My Username)
IP (I have hidden this, as it would tie my BTCTalk username to the pool login)
Date and Time 24.03.17 13:30

This came about 2 weeks after a number of attempts on C-CEX account.

I am 90% sure this is from Pool Data from some time ago, maybe up to 4 years ago.

The only other thing I can think its come from is online rig rental, which requires the pool config to mine.

All the best,

Doctor G

If its helped you stick a few sats in here : 12NFXPzdznYdBpQqG8FoVFLS7dC8LCLEiR

*Edit* - My concern is that I only used popular pools, I dont want to name to spread FUD, You guys should know how to manage your online security by now Cheesy - Dont use your pool username for exchanges! or anything else.

10  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Have I been Pwned - BTC-E notification but old news on: March 12, 2017, 01:19:59 PM
Hey all,
Hope life is treating you well!
Ive just had a notification from HAVEIBEENPWNED saying my data was one of those in the BTC-E dataleak.
Seems strange to get this 3 years on, it is old news.
Anyone any ideas why Im getting this notification now?
Im not concerned about the account, Im not stupid enough to leave anything in the exchanges.
Seems a little late to notify anyone (3 years?), has something else materialised about the data breach that anyone knows of?
All the best,

11  Bitcoin / Electrum / Electrum Fee's and long transaction times. on: March 05, 2017, 10:32:26 AM
Hi Guys,

Ive been struggling with Electrum a lot recently, I dont know if this is down the the current state of the Blockchain and Difficulty.

Sending small amounts, such as 0.01 BTC have taken 2 - 3 days before now!

I have had Electrum on Auto Fee's and I have seen the FEE TO LOW message a couple of times.
I have hit the slider to Max Fee which on 0.01 is 0.001, but found that it is still around 25 blocks.

Is it possible to hard type the fee for a transaction, as I dont want to get caught out?

Stuck transactions in the Core wallet are one thing, but not a lot of information online about stuck transactions in Electrum.

Ive been singing the praises of Electrum since I was introduced to it 6 months ago, now Im wondering if it really is the best solution for someone like me, who sends small amounts.

Thanks in advance.

12  Other / Off-topic / What causes older Mobile Phones to Slow Down? on: February 05, 2017, 05:52:50 PM
Hi Dudes...

What causes older Mobile Phones to Slow Down?
Is it because the memory Read/Writes are failing?

Also, why is it, when a mobile phone is left for 6 months in a drawer, the touch screen fails on cheaper phones?

This tends not to happen with Samsung and Apple Phones, but overall, the cheaper the phone, the quicker it degrades....

I wonder sometimes if the touchscreen corrodes or something...

14  Other / Off-topic / Got a dog? Specifically a Bitch? Read this. IMPORTANT on: January 01, 2017, 09:50:35 PM
Very serious post here.

In a nutshell. If you have a Bitch. And you are not breeding her. Get her spayed.

My lovely Staffi was never Spayed. I have always had dogs. This was my first bitch.
She is only 6 years old. At the moment, 2 weeks after Hysterectamy she is still unable to walk.
Im lucky she is alive although her quality of life is so poor i may need to put her down if she doesnt improve this week.

Why? Pyometra

Pyometra literally means 'pus in the womb'

Her belly swelled up, she was off her food and leaking pus from her back end.

3 days was all it took and before i knew it i had a dog with dehydration and failing kidneys.

If you have a bitch, and shes not been spayed, get her done.

This infection is more common than you think.

Thanks for reading and please help raise awareness by telling your friends who have dogs or thinking about getting a dog.

I have had 5 visits to the vets in total and she has stayed a total of 6 nights.

She has had variety of pain killers and drips inserted.

She is on bupramophine, tramadol, antibiotics and calprofen.

Animal lovers please be aware of this. Google this.

Pyometra.

Thanks

16  Economy / Speculation / Happy new year 2017 if Bitcoin price reaches 2000 dollars on: December 31, 2016, 07:42:14 AM
Firstly I wish all of you all a Very Happy New Year to come!

Do you think that this year Bitcoin will finally hit the 2000 dollars mark and beat the previous high?

We have recently seen the price just falling short of 1000 dollars for first time in a long while.

Does 1000 dollars act as a tipping point for buying or selling for the majority of Bag Holders?

Will you buy less if the price increases further or see this as a sign that the investment is a sound one for cashing out in 2020?

18  Economy / Economics / How many Bitcoins for Retirement. For Average Age and Salary NEWBIE. on: November 22, 2016, 07:51:06 AM
To all!
My question is for those of us who wasn't aware of Bitcoin at the start and earning an average salary.
Lets say that the person needs to start investing in Bitcoin today, say per month - a few Sats at a time (as much as you would pay into average pension plan)
Lets assume the person has ZERO Bitcoin.

So...

If you mined 1000's Bitcoin 8 years ago then this is probably not for you but I would still appreciate your views.
Some of you may live in countries where 10 dollars is a large amount of money.
Some of you may live in Oil Rich Countries where your Bitcoins are made of 22k Gold and mounted on the wall.
Some of you may be investors, miners, speculators, scammers / fraudsters, lawyers, School Teachers, Firefighters or Toilet Cleaners (yes and unemployed too)

But for the average struggling person, who wants to retire comfortably and doesn't like the idea of a pension plan...

Why do you think the minimum amount of Bitcoin is to Hold? What is your target?

Personally, mine is 25BTC, assuming that BTC is still around in 20 years, I would hope that it would be worth say 100,000 in todays money. (I hope)
I have chosen 25 because it was the size of the reward before recent halving, and its my personal challenge.
This is speculation, so you may assume a BTC is worth 500 dollars in 20 years and that affects the amount you think you should put away.

Yes its a punt, and this may be full of holes! That's why I am asking you guys  Cheesy

If the question is not clear, or has a few holes in it, then let me know and I will rephrase it.

*EDIT* Wow! Thanks everyone for taking part. I didnt expect the result to be 100+ . Some really good comments too.
19  Other / Off-topic / Learning Polish and Mobile Phone Apps. on: November 20, 2016, 11:43:06 AM
Hi all,

Back in the day, a long time ago when I was at school. I studied my own language (English) and did French for 3 years and German for 4 years.
Needless to say, as a typical Englishman, I couldn't (and still cant) speak my own language properly.
Aside from learning to count to ten in English and German, and being able to ask for a cup of tea (!) and some biscuits... I cant remember anything.

I always remember my French teacher telling me that once they built the Channel Tunnel the UK would be flooded with Germans and French.
Not bloody likely, why the hell would they want to come here? For Fish and Chips?

I didn't get on with my teachers anyway, my French and German teachers (like my maths teacher) were horrible people.
Schooling of the 70's and 80's was very different. We had ears pulled, board dusters thrown at us and it wasn't unknown to get a slap across the backside or the back of the head. The punishment for smoking cigarettes involved the head teacher shouting at you while stabbing at your ribs with bony fingers.

Anyway, many decades later I have decided to learn a language that would be useful in the UK. Something to pass the time on the train.

I have decided to learn Polish. Everyone seems to be Polish nowadays. I hear its as cool as it was to be Irish in the 90's.

Ive paid for a 1 month subscription to Babbel and downloaded the Polish Language App on my phone.

After two hours of saying Welcome, thankyou and "I have a head cold" (While swearing at the Voice recognition - either its crap or Im not vocalising the words properly)
I am about ready to give up.

I am thinking its time to maybe take a class in speaking Polish. Has anyone on here learned Polish? Any suggestions?

Id also like to know why everyone in the world seems to be able to learn English easily while we can hardly speak properly to begin with.

Is the English language really that easy to learn?

If polish is really so hard to learn?

Answers on the back of a postcard please!

20  Economy / Goods / OFFICIAL (not reproduction) Star Wars Quad A4 Posters - Force Awakens on: November 19, 2016, 09:01:15 AM
Star Wars Quad A4 Posters - Force Awakens
Would anyone be interested?

2 Posters - 1 is Star Wars Force Awakens Logo, 1 is Star Wars Force Awakens Faces

Both immaculate condition in tubes.

I can also provide tickets (used on the day) and a pair of 3D glasses

If anyone is interested please give me a rough idea what you would pay.

If I like your offer we can sort out Escrow.

I wont send to Africa, India etc

My plan for these was to frame (box frame) with tickets, glasses and some other memorabilia.

I expect that nicely framed and lit up with neon, it would look quite good, but like many things in life I will not get around to it.

Give the love of your life a couple of decent Star Wars Posters for Christmas Smiley

Thanks
