Economy / Gambling discussion / Do You Trust In-House Casino Competition? (Wager/Multiplier/Raffle)
|
on: February 26, 2021, 03:12:52 AM
|
Many casinos have leaderboards for a wide range of competition. Is there a way to verify the validity of the users and their scores? What stop the casinos from printing random (fake) users and put that on the leaderboard?
That's the reason I only participate in competitions published and handled in Bitcointalk. It's easier to verify. Do you also think the same?
Sincerely, A skeptic guy.

Economy / Gambling discussion / Why do people keep playing unlicensed, illegal slot machines?
|
on: September 24, 2020, 06:57:47 AM
|
across town, another type of gambling continued much as it had since the coronavirus shutdown. A customer sat at the back of a gas station and peered into the video terminal of an electronic gaming device, one that's often referred to as a "prereveal" or "no chance" game. These look and sound like a regular slot machine, but they manage to skirt the gray area of what kind of gambling is authorized in Missouri.
...
Cobb, owner and president of ACME Music & Vending in St. Joseph, said it's common for his employees to report seeing these electronic devices when stopping in some gas stations to get snacks. There are an estimated 14,000 of the devices statewide, tucked into convenience stores, truck stops and fraternal organizations. Source. Also, "Utah man makes $8 million a year in cash from illegal gambling machines"This machine is dangerous since the result would likely be rigged, no RTP information, no certification, no provably fair, etc. But the business keeps booming. Is this because of a mere convenience? Or something else? Nowadays, people can play from their mobile phones, online, on legit casinos.

Local / Altcoins (Bahasa Indonesia) / Hati-Hati dengan Proyek-Proyek DeFi
|
on: September 01, 2020, 06:49:08 AM
|
Waspadalah!

Economy / Economics / Monkeys: Don't do trend analysis! (with poll)
|
on: August 25, 2020, 03:52:11 AM
|
Give a monkey enough darts and they'll beat the market. So says a draft article by Research Affiliates highlighting the simulated results of 100 monkeys throwing darts at the stock pages in a newspaper. The average monkey outperformed the index by an average of 1.7 percent per year since 1964. That's a lot of bananas!
What is all this monkey business? It started in 1973 when Princeton University professor Burton Malkiel claimed in his bestselling book, A Random Walk Down Wall Street, that "A blindfolded monkey throwing darts at a newspaper's financial pages could select a portfolio that would do just as well as one carefully selected by experts." Source. This phenomenon, about random dart throwers, can beat financial analyst already tested multiple times: To test their idea, the writers threw darts at a stock list in the newspaper. From those random hits they built a portfolio to stack up against highflying financial elites.
Those elites meet at the Sohn Investment Conference, held each May in New York. The attendees are full-time active investors, people who spend 365 days and nights a year thinking hard about what investments to own and why.
So how did the dart-throwing journalists do this year? "The results were brutal," recounts Spencer Jakab of the Journal.
The random writer picks beat the pros by 27 percentage points in the year through April 22. "Only 3 of 12 of the Sohn picks even outperformed the S&P 500 SPX, +1.00%," Jakab said. Source. Why does this thing happen? Well, there is a theory called "Random Walk Theory." Random walk theory suggests that changes in stock prices have the same distribution and are independent of each other. Therefore, it assumes the past movement or trend of a stock price or market cannot be used to predict its future movement. In short, random walk theory proclaims that stocks take a random and unpredictable path that makes all methods of predicting stock prices futile in the long run. Source.Okay, the above examples are for stocks, but it should be somewhat applicable to the cryptocurrency market. What do you think?Bonus, notable argument by a skeptic: but these data can help us make better predictions. Predictions backed up by relevant data are way better than predictions without any basis. hmmmm

Economy / Gambling discussion / Slots 103: More In-Depth about Return To Player (RTP) (With Poll)
|
on: August 12, 2020, 12:45:54 PM
|
Oh, the RTP debate, it never goes old! Perhaps everyone already knows about RTP, but did you know that high RTP is not always good and can change over time? Let's dig it! First and foremost: RTP and Volatility
* RTP: it is like a fee for slots operator, in the long run, let's say for $1 bet, the operator will earn $0.05 and $0.95 will be put in the pot. Rule of thumb: search for slots that have more than 95% RTP. * Volatility: it is like a risk for slots game. In low volatility slots, action will occur more often, but it pays lower than high volatility slots.
Theoretical RTP for extremely high volatility slotsLet's see how slots that can give 100,000x can get you busted most of the time, even with the 100% Theoretical RTP. Let's say the dev programmed the game to provide 0x (zero) payouts in 99,999/100,000 spins and 100,000x payout in 1/100,000 spins. In theory, they can label their slot game to have 100% Theoretical RTP. In reality, players will get busted with a probability of 99.999%. It might be okay if they really pay if some "holy" dude gets the 100,000x, but we have read about this slot malfunction and whatever else that deny their obligation to pay. Therefore, if you see high volatility slots that have high RTP, you should ask: - How big is the max win? 1,000x, 10,000x, or 100,000x? - What's the volatility and the hit frequency? - Even if I (somehow) win big, what's the probability for me getting paid 100%? Will my KYC be denied? not all slots with high RTP are necessarily very friendly on your bankroll. In general, games with higher are RTP are always a better choice than the ones with a lower percentage, but if your game of choice is very volatile, you can go through many thousands spins before coming anywhere close to true RTP. SourceTheoretical RTP label CAN changeOkay, so you like Slot A with a 97% RTP at the time of release and frequently play it for years. On some cloudy days, you decide to click the help and check the RTP. You then realized that the devs revised it last year to 94% RTP. Feel cheated? Too bad! After millions of spins, if no one hits the big multiplier (as mentioned in the previous section), the company is required to revise the RTP. From what I see, this situation is more common with provably fair slots (highly subjective, citation needed). Therefore, old games with high RTP might sound more appealing than you think since new games with high RTP are not battle-tested yet. Live RTP WILL changeSome casinos provide live RTPs so users can get informed about which is currently hot (paid more) and cold (paid less). To me, it's just a superstition, so users don't have to feel discouraged when they see Slot A live RTP rises to 200% and conversely rushes to play when live RTP down to 20%. Live RTP will fluctuate based on the volatility (variance) and how many spins performed. Just ignore this since the data from one casino cannot represent data from all casinos (population). Perhaps at Casino A, the live RTP for Slot A is 150%. It doesn't mean that the next player will get rekt because maybe, on average, the live RTP (population) is 80%, so there is plenty room to bounce back (or more wins).
Theoretical RTP and Paylines
How about RTP in games that allow users to customize the paylines where they can bet on 1 of 10 pay lines up to 10 of 10 (max) paylines? Well, usually more paylines equal to more RTP, hence the theoretical RTP label is for max paylines. So, better bet on max lines even if it's more expensive if you don't use it as a strategy (to do progressive betting). If you don't trust me, kindly dwell into various slots' information sections, and sometimes you will read "The RTP only applicable for max lines" sort of thing.
RTP Variants: Same Game, Different RTPsAlways check for RTP! That should be the mantra for every slots player who doesn't want to get "soft-scammed" since the exact same game can use different RTP settings. The provider who are known to have different RTP settings, as follows: - Play'n Go: someone even reported to have only 84% RTP; - Pragmatic Play: there are three RTP choices from 94% to 96%; - Red Tiger: multiple RTPs down to 92%; source- Nolimit City: usually the DX version pays -2% from the standard version (from my observation only, citation needed). Do you have another view/opinion/fact about RTP? Feel free to share your knowledge here.Disclaimer: gambling is for adults who understand the risks involved with this game. Plus, OP wouldn't take responsibility whatsoever if you then become slots addict and lose lots of money after reading this thread.More information visit: https://wiki.casino/slot-machine/

Economy / Economics / Virgin Atlantic Goes Bankrupt, Bailouts?
|
on: August 05, 2020, 07:58:43 AM
|
Virgin Atlantic Airways Ltd [VA.UL] is seeking protection from creditors in the United States under Chapter 15 of the U.S. Bankruptcy Code, which allows a foreign debtor to shield assets in this country, according to a court filing on Tuesday.
The U.S. filing is an ancillary proceeding tied to a separate action filed in a British court, where Virgin Atlantic obtained approval Tuesday to convene meetings of affected creditors to vote on the plan on Aug. 25.
The high-profile Branson had attracted criticism after calling for government help for Virgin Atlantic to survive the downturn.
Source: ReutersWithout bailouts, perhaps the airline industry would be dead, and thousands would go unemployed. Then, it might affects hospitality, tourism, taxi/uber services. Should the government bailouts the airline industry? What will be the future for the airline industry post coronavirus pandemic?

Economy / Economics / Richard D Wolff: Democratize the Corporations
|
on: July 28, 2020, 01:18:21 PM
|
Marxist professor, Richard D Wolff lays down a plan for companies in a socialist economy. Here are some of the points he made about "Democratize the corporations:" - One worker, one vote The decision about what to produce, when to produce, etc., is a collective decision instead of the top management decision. This means skilled workers have the same vote as the janitors. - Workers-owners The workers are also the owners of the company; therefore, they get to choose what to do with the profits. - Not profit maximization Worry about machines replace your job because it will lower costs? It's not a problem with this democratic corporation since the goal is to keep the workers happy. Do you guys like this concept? I smell at least a part of the spirit is present in the DAO or DeFi. Economy / Gambling discussion / Slots 102: The Provably Fair Slots (with poll)
|
on: July 14, 2020, 05:48:55 AM
|
With more than 14,695 video slots titles, it's easy to argue that slot has more players than any other online casino games. But "with great power, comes great responsibility" ~ Uncle Ben, this has become more problematic to prove that every bet made was fair and will be fair, that slot providers didn't cheat slot players. Traditionally, players have to rely on trust, that every game has been through various testing to make sure its fairness. RTP, volatility, exposure, also checked at this phase. However, trusting this big entity is just like trusting the big banks, something that doesn't get along with the spirit of decentralization and "don't trust, verify" thing. Hence, this thread will list provably fair slots only, so users can determine if the provably fair status can encourage them to play (or not). Anyways, feel free to post your favorite provably fair slots here, in case I forgot to mention it. #1 Bitvest Slot Legend says it is one of the oldest provably fair slots. The unique thing is, you can customize the pay table according to your own preference. #2 BitcoinVideoCasino Slot Not sure if this is one of the oldest, but it sure looks old (lol). The good thing is you can customize your pay line according to your own preference and it has progressive bonus. #3 Samurai & Egyptian Slots - Stake Did you get an email to try Samurai Slots? I tried, and it's good compared to the "previous generation" of provably fair slots. It has scatter, bonus rounds, sounds, and unique reels setup, like Deadwood/Tombstone. #4 Mintdice Slot This slot has nice graphics, sounds, and has decent gameplay. The downside is that no scatter (and bonus round). Probably this slot is the most underrated one. #5 (Some of) BGaming Slots Probably this is the most developed provably fair slot game in terms of gaming experience. The downsides are: high house-edge (3-6%) and the data (hashes) are not recorded in users' history. Users have to check the fairness immediately before the next spin, which is pretty much useless. BGaming has at least 33 video slots title, and some of it already fairly popular, e.g., Fire Lightning, Platinum Lightning, Avalon, etc. Sadly, no "verify" option founds on new titles like Elvis Frog & Book of Cats. #6 Classic Slot - Coinroyale Who needs 5-reel slots when you can play a classic 3-reel slot machine? Seriously, if you like classic slot games with basic graphics, this can be a solid option. #7 Slotmachine - Crypto-Games Let's add this slot into the basic graphics collection. However, the gameplay is pretty unique. You can hunt crypto-games logo similar to the "scatter-hunt." More logo appears in one line (doesn't have to be in sequence) equal to more winning multiplier. #8 Fruitsler & Crypto Thugs - Bitsler Wow, provably-fair slot games with decent graphic! Moreover, it also has the wild symbol! Okay, I think Fruitsler is probably in par with Mintdice slot according to ME. But, this Crypto Thugs is definitely the best one if we leave BGaming slots out of the equation. It has scatter and free spins just like mainstream slots. #9 Sugar Rush - Jacks Club The better version of Sweet Bonanza (Pragmatic Play) since it is provably fair and offers significantly lower house-edge (2.7%). It has bonus rounds, relaxing music, and you can wager pennies, unlike Sweet Bonanza that has a $0.2 minimum bet. #10 Elf Quest Slots - Tower.bet A nice provably fair adventure/fantasy-themed slots game. It has the scatter and wild symbol, and three or more scatters will trigger the feature spin. In fact, there are three feature modes: "Caravan Robbery, Dwarf's Mines, and Dragon Tower." HOWEVER, it has a 94.58% RTP. Damn, after all the good parts, why crappy RTP?!
Feel free to leave comments here! Disclaimer: Numbers on this list don't represent rank or quality or anything in a particular order, it's just a simple numbering. Gambling is for adults who understand the risks involved with this game. Plus, OP wouldn't take responsibility whatsoever if you then become slots addict and lose lots of money after reading this thread.

Economy / Economics / Roubini Warns about the Incoming Stagflation
|
on: June 25, 2020, 12:15:07 AM
|
Roubini, the economist that we all love predicts about the future stagflation: Roubini -- known for for warning the International Monetary Fund in 2006 that the U.S. housing market would soon collapse -- painted a picture of a bleak future with so-called stagflation, in which growth stagnates but inflation picks up. “We’re going to be faced now with a significant amount of negative supply shocks in the global economy,” he said, citing deglobalization and slower technological innovation, alongside enoormous money creation to help with debt loads. “Eventually the inflation genie will get out of the bottle.” Source: https://www.msn.com/en-us/finance/markets/stiglitz-urges-capitalism-rethink-as-roubini-invokes-stagflation/ar-BB15SyLDThe last stagflation in the '70s was quite long and painful, are you ready to go through this crisis once more? Economy / Economics / Is the US Moving Away from Capitalism and Free Market?
|
on: May 26, 2020, 05:40:41 AM
|
According to Ray Dalio: The economic world order is changing whether we like it or not. You can see it happening as people and companies around the world are losing income and savings, and central banks and governments are providing them money to try to compensate for those losses. And you can see it as the free market is no longer determining the allocation of capital — governments are.
Central governments and central banks are now creating trillions in money and credit and directing it to those they want to receive it. This will soon be followed by a debate, perhaps even a fight, about where this money should come from and who should have what in the new world. Such controls of spending and the ensuing political conflicts over it have occurred many times in history, especially when severe economic and financial downturns were accompanied by high levels of indebtedness and large wealth gaps. History has taught us that these conflicts take place both within and between countries. How these conflicts are resolved will determine whether the economic pie will grow and be divided well or contract and be divided through fighting. Chances are that the new system we end up with will be significantly different from the capitalist system that we've gotten used to.
...
To make society work better, the new system must both increase the size of the pie and divide it well. Our ability to consume is dependent on our ability to produce, not the amount of money we get in the mail. You can't eat money. Somebody must get paid to produce and deliver what we consume. And we can't raise our living standards by just giving people money — they need to be incentivized to produce, and that must be done cost-effectively through some system that is not administered from the top. Most fundamentally, that system must strive to provide 1) equal opportunity to all those who have the potential to produce (because that is both most fair and most productive) and 2) basic needs to those who are unable to (because that is humane and what is fundamentally needed to have a good community). Source: https://edition.cnn.com/2020/05/15/perspectives/ray-dalio-capitalism/index.html* What do you think? It seems like the US is moving closer to central planning since the government decides to interfere with the free-market. * At the time of this pandemic, should the government let the market regulate itself? * What is the rule of the government in this "new capitalist" system? Should it be called "pure capitalism?"

Economy / Gambling discussion / Slots 101: Basics, Strategies, and Discussion (with poll)
|
on: May 18, 2020, 05:52:13 PM
|
Slots, the poor man's favorite game, is probably the most straightforward yet most diverse game to date. This thread is for those of you who aren't a grammar nazi and won't cry if you lose your gambling budget. Anyway, let's take a more in-depth look at this "killing time" machine. Grid setupThe reel is the vertical part of the grid, or simply, the column that spins vertically. Nowadays, online slots use RNG instead of mechanical reels, but the term "reel" has been used for centuries, so it is still widely used around the world. From my observation, most online slots games use five reels or more, but legend says some also use three reels (see figure 1). In 2015/2016, there is a new setup called Megaways. Megaways was created by Australia-based slot development studio Big Time Gaming and first hit the market in 2015 with its Dragon Born title. But it wasn’t until Bonanza launched in 2016 that Megaways entered the mainstream and took the online slots world by storm. SourceMegaways is a slots game with rows that varied for each spin. See figure 2 for the Megaways example of a 5-reel slot. Oh, there is also a puzzle-like setup similar to Candy Crush et al. Wild and Scatter* Wild: the symbol can turn into any symbol except scatter. * Scatter: collect three or more will trigger a bonus level; this symbol doesn't have to be aligned (see figure 3). * Bonus level: you will get x free spins added with various multipliers, the layout, number of the grid, mechanism, etc., will be different for each game. Gamblers usually play to get into this bonus level. In some games, you can use "buy feature" to immediately trigger the bonus level. RTP and Volatility* RTP: it is like a fee for slots operator in the long run, let's say for $1 bet, the operator will earn $0.05 and $0.95 will be put in the pot. Rule of thumb: search for slots that have more than 95% RTP. * Volatility: it is like a risk for slots game. In low volatility slots, action will occur more often, but it pays lower than high volatility slots. StrategyWell, there is no "strategy" per se for this one click spin and pure luck-based game. However, you can use several playing styles for various scenarios you may encounter in this game. (1) You can play using a fun balance (not real money) to get familiar with the game you choose; (2) Start with low volatility slots if you are new to the game; (3) If you play in a progressive slot, you can play until you hit the bonus level. Or use the "buy feature" since it will become cheaper. (4) You can use the martingale strategy to buy features, but keep in mind this is like high-roller stuff. You can lose all of your money if you are unlucky. (5) You don't have to stay in the same game and waste all of your money there. Remember, the probability of winning the next spin will remain the same. However, you will lose your progression doing so, thus always save your last money to buy the feature before you quit. (6) If you manage to salvage some of your initial balance, don't play until it becomes zero. Call it a night, and use it next weekend. Recommended GameThis list is pure my judgment based on the gaming experience (sadly, I didn't get paid for this lol), so you may not like it. But please don't cry since you can give me suggestions here, and I will try it, then, if I agree, I will put it on this list. (Note: information from slotcatalog.com) Approved by me:* White Rabbit (97.72% - High): it's like playing an adventure game, great bonus round; * Back to Venus (97.07% - Medium): great animation/gameplay; * Wild Wild Riches (96.77% - High): God gamer's favorite game; * Bronco Spirit (96.63% - Med): I couldn't understand why collecting wild is so addicting; * Legacy of Dead (96.58% - High): A newer version of Book of Dead; * Rise of Merlin (96.58% - High): God gamer's favorite game; * Starburst (96.09% - Low): good game for newbies. Community pick:* Jammin' Jars (96.83% - High): puzzle; * Reactoonz (96.51% - High): puzzle; * DOA2 (96.82% - High): a popular 5x3 slot; * Grim Muerto (96.51% - Med): collect two wilds to activate "second chance," a 25% chance to get the third wild; * Provably fair slots.Disclaimer: gambling is for adults who understand the risks involved with this game. Plus, OP wouldn't take responsibility whatsoever if you then become slots addict and lose lots of money after reading this thread.More information visit: https://wiki.casino/slot-machine/Feel free to suggest your favorite slots here!

Economy / Gambling discussion / Reason for ending gambling sessions: Had something else to do
|
on: April 28, 2020, 09:31:03 AM
|
Interesting findings from "A national survey of online gambling behaviours" by Columb & O'Gara (2017) A total of 208 users participated in the online survey. The most popular gambling activity played was Sports Betting (26.9%) and the most commonly used device was Mobile app (68.6%). The main reason for gambling online was ‘To win money’ (84.6%), the main reason for ending gambling sessions – ‘Had something else to do’ (67.3%) and the most prominent emotion experienced – Excitement (60.6%). There were findings related to the severity of gambling addiction (75% – had to borrow or sell to fund gambling) and their attitudes towards online gambling (strongly agreed – 39.9% – The potential dangers of gambling should be advertised). Source: https://sci-hub.tw/10.1017/ipm.2017.64* Sportsbetting via a mobile app is the mainstream; * Main reason to gamble is to win money; and * Contrary to my belief, the most popular reason for ending gambling sessions is "had something else to do," and not because "running out of money." If you think about it: * Gambling is a time-wasting activity; and * To stop gambling, keep yourself occupied with something. What do you think about the above findings?

Economy / Gambling discussion / Analyst: "Covid-19 Could Spur More States to Legalize Online Casino"
|
on: April 21, 2020, 12:28:29 PM
|
According to Nasdaq.com: Morgan Stanley analyst says the impact of Covid-19 could spur more states to legalize online casino and sports betting.
With casinos closed across the country and sports betting drying up, online casino-style gambling is proving to be a bright spot for the industry.
Internet gambling revenues (excluding sports betting) in New Jersey rose 66%, to $65 million in March, the state reported recently. Online gambling includes slots as well as table games like blackjack. New Jersey is a leader in internet gambling. -#1 Do you agree the government will legalize online gambling? If yes, will traditional (land) casinos survive? Despite the collapse in online sports betting, investors remain excited about Diamond Eagle Acquisition (ticker: DEAC), a special purpose acquisition company that has a deal to merge with internet sports betting leader DraftKings.
...
Diamond Eagle has a sizable market value of $5.8 billion based on a fully diluted share count of around 347 million shares. That is considerably above the market values of Penn National Gaming (PENN) and Eldorado Resorts (ERI) in the $1 billion to $2 billion range, as well as exceeding that of Caesars Entertainment (CZR) at about $5 billion. -#2 Source #1: https://www.nasdaq.com/articles/online-gambling-is-booming-amid-the-lockdown-2020-04-20Look at CZR valuation compared to DEAC, is this one of the signs that online gambling will replace offline? Or is it going to be dotcom bubble 2.0? Share your thoughts guys

Economy / Gambling discussion / Don't be a hypocrite and admit that you are a gambler
|
on: February 17, 2020, 08:59:03 AM

Addiction, mentally ill, health symptoms, etc. Too much negativity in the gambling industry, especially in this forum where ironically casinos have paid a lot of users. You know what? You are a gambler even though you haven't realized it. When you were a kid in school, you gamble in your exam when you didn't know the answer. Should I mark option A or B or C? You gamble in your career path, your spouse, your children's education, literally everything that is unknown. But it doesn't involve money, sir? You gamble in your purchasing and investment decisions as well. Inspired by this debate: https://www.debate.org/opinions/is-gambling-morally-wrongThank you for reading, let's be more positive and tell me a funny/interesting story about your gambling experience here. Gambling should be for fun, not for getting rich.
