1  Bitcoin / Legal / Help with filing Taxes on: April 08, 2018, 02:37:17 PM
Ugh, I know what my gains were in 2017 from selling Bitcoin Cash.

But obviously I never got a form 1099-B from the exchange I used.  So can I complete the 1099-B myself?  Do I also have to complete form 8949 myself as well?  Do I list the exchange as the one that is reporting this gain to me on form 1099-B even though they did not issue the form itself?

I swear, I really want to not report this income since no one is issuing me any type of documentation, and part of me thinks that claiming this gain is going to create more questions than if I did not report it.

I'm just trying to report around $7,500 in capital gains.  Anyone have any advice?

I'm using www.taxact.com software

3  Economy / Trading Discussion / Bitcoin Cost Tracking - Spreadsheet Help Please on: February 09, 2014, 07:33:33 PM
I've purchased BTC at many different price points over the past few months.  I've tracked each purchase so I know my average BTC price.

I need some help for if/when I decide to sell -- I'd like to be able to also track that, so I can determine what/if any profit/loss I need to record for tax purposes.

The selling part is tripping me up.

Does anyone have a nice excel spreadsheet with some built in formulas you can share for me to transfer my data over to, to help me in what I am trying to accomplish?  Thanks

4  Economy / Service Discussion / Coinbase Experience (Good) on: December 04, 2013, 03:36:57 AM
So I got into the party a bit late, and bought my first coin from Coinbase the Tuesday before Thanksgiving after doing a decent amount of research on this forum the prior few days.  Obviously I did not read enough, as I did not realize how long it would take for the transaction to complete (Coinbase said my coin would be delivered on 12/3 .. bought 11/26).

I then got extremely nervous after reading about the many cancelled transactions stories, especially the ones cancelled after a significant price jump.  My lock in price was $895.  I felt for sure my transaction was not going to go through, so I found a trader on localbitcoins the next day and wired $1000 to him via Western Union to Costa Rica) and that transaction went very smoothly.

I now owned my first coin and had a second one pending, so I was happy I at least had one bird in hand.

I'm happy to report the transaction went through a few hours ago on Coinbase and thought I would post my experience, especially since I've seen many more negative than positive posts.

Can't guarantee you the same result, but my next purchase will be Coinbase, the only problem is..... do I buy my next one now or do I gamble and hope for a dip this weekend?  Decisions Decisions.

Viva BTC and thanks for reading!
5  Other / Beginners & Help / BitStamp Verificaton Denied -- What is 300 dpi? on: November 28, 2013, 03:27:36 PM
Guys, I got all my documentation scanned into a nice color PDF document at a local Fedex.  I was denied, I guess because it did not meet their criteria.

Can I convert the PDF into another type of image and how do I tell that it meets their criteria of what 300 dpi is?  Man, by the time I can buy, they will be past $2,000 but I still want in.  Thanks
