Is Gox ever going to allow withdrawals? Is there any sort of insurance that will cover losses if they do not? Can they be sued?

3  Economy / Service Announcements / hosting a btc classified site on: January 15, 2014, 08:04:51 AM

Just a place to list things being sold for btc. I know it visually sucks but its functional. I will improve it with time. I have plenty of things in my garage that I will be adding to it.
4  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Business Opportunities in btc on: January 14, 2014, 07:07:14 PM
This thread is dedicated to bitcoin business opportunities. What sort of businesses can be created to help the evolution of the coin?

user friendly wallets (completely mindless interface)
bitcoin bank
merchant exchange software
bitcoin accounting software

Any other ideas?
5  Economy / Speculation / No coins and needing to buy back in on: January 11, 2014, 10:07:49 PM
Hoping someone else is in my situation so we can share anxiety.

I sold at 950 last week taking a small profit (for bitcoin/ insanely awesome profit for the rest, 20%) so I can buy more coins. I keep waiting for a dip to the 700s so I can get more coins. I can afford to invest about 5 coins at that rate. I almost bought in the 500s but whatever , 'shuld, culda wulda'.

Keep waiting, now Im tempted to buy the next dip to the 800s.

I have 'bitcoin paranoid' which is a great android app that sends alerts when the price goes up at whatever percentage you set it to. So Im on top of the price all day long and can instantly buy at anytime.

Anyone in the same boat have a buy back plan?
6  Economy / Speculation / Overstock News, Branson News, Singapore News on: January 09, 2014, 11:11:58 PM
Does any of this bullish news actually effect the price? It doesn't seem to more than 10%. The bear news seems to plummet the price. Humans are negative.
7  Economy / Speculation / The new bitcoin on: January 02, 2014, 08:22:53 PM
It wouldn't surprise me if we start to see these celebrity coins taking over. People can be ridiculous.
8  Economy / Speculation / BTC Price and Exchange Delay on: December 31, 2013, 11:16:11 PM
It takes me about 1 week + to purchase a coin on coinbase... Wouldn't this sort of delay with exchanges make price movement move like a turtle?

Am I wrong, or was there about a 3 day delay on the price drop as a result of the initial bad China news?

Its an important thing to be aware of when speculating price.

probably wont effect the price anymore but who knows?
11  Economy / Speculation / Why Hedge Funds will not throw money into BTC on: December 19, 2013, 05:43:59 PM
My theory is that hedge funds are not going to throw money into BTC anytime soon.

Having worked in IT for 6 years at one of the top 5 hedge fund companies, I learned how they operate. Basically, they DO NOT take risks! BTC is just too volatile for them to invest in. They may have one or two guys in the Value department looking at BTC and keeping an eye on it to see where the future may lead, but I am pretty certain they are not going to make any large investments, if any at all. People get fired all the time for even suggesting risky trades and for coming across as "gambling". I once asked a trader what he thought of investing in stem cells and he laughed saying they wouldn't even consider it being that its way too volatile, and as we know BTC is insanely volatile. What they would do is play with the arbitrage opportunities which may explain all the money going through China. There is basically no risk in doing that.

Anyway, this is just my .02. Im not a trader, though I do understand certain things having studied finance at one point. I wish I knew what I know now while I was working there. I do know their trades are very conservative and right now the chance for loss in BTC is too great. Clients would get concerned.

The smaller start-up funds in the industry could jump in to BTC, but I just cant see the big whales getting involved anytime soon unless more arbitrage opportunities pop up.
12  Economy / Speculation / Timechart - Oct to Dec 2013 on: December 18, 2013, 02:37:20 AM
just using this thread to post events in relation to price movement to maybe get some perspective.

note: I forgot to add: 'US says bitcoin is good' next to China bans banks.

13  Economy / Service Discussion / Coinbase - it takes a week to purchase 1 BTC on: December 14, 2013, 08:28:55 PM
Is it normal for Coinbase to take a week to fund my account 1 BTC? I purchased last Sun. They already received the funds from my bank account.
14  Economy / Speculation / arbitrage trading on: December 11, 2013, 06:54:41 PM
I imagine this would have some effect on the price? especially if big players are passing large sums through the exchange. it could cause all sorts of false ups and downs. ...I'm not that versed on arbitrage so maybe someone else can chime in.

15  Economy / Speculation / jpm chase getting involved? on: December 11, 2013, 03:50:02 AM
whats all this news out about jpm chase patenting a bitcoin killer? seems to me more like a ripple killer. think it will drop the price at all?
16  Economy / Speculation / buy back in - when? on: December 10, 2013, 03:47:12 AM
I bought out at 750 in a well thought out panic. This is slightly above where I originally got in. Figured it was insurance. Now I want to get back in. I'm torn on waiting till it drops below 750 or just cut my losses as insurance and get the hell back on the boat. Thots?
17  Economy / Service Discussion / Coinbase selling delay on: December 09, 2013, 07:41:39 PM
I sold some coins on coinbase on Fri and it said '2 business days to be funded to your account. your account will be funded on Thurs 12/12'. Thurs is 4 business days. I understand if this was live human error but its a machine calculating the time. I am weary of the coding. This is a simple code that a beginner could write.
18  Economy / Speculation / Bitcoin valued at $1300? on: December 07, 2013, 10:23:03 PM
19  Economy / Economics / mBTC for more stability on: December 07, 2013, 12:06:28 AM
I'm starting to think that switching to mBTC will create more stability in the market. I think bitcoinity doing so is a good idea. It just makes bitcoins look more on the lines of other currency.
20  Economy / Speculation / Bitcoin Monitoring Tools on: December 06, 2013, 11:42:12 PM
Where are some of you getting monitoring information to know who is buying from where? Are there any recommended sources?
