21  Bitcoin / Armory / Bug with manual entropy GUI? on: November 12, 2016, 01:01:12 AM
I see the matrix of buttons, and I can sorta guess where I'm supposed to click but nothing shows up, they're just a bunch of blank buttons.
22  Other / Meta / Forum hacked? [Nope just kidding] on: September 27, 2015, 09:26:42 PM

This just appeared for my post count....what's going on? Did someone gain access to the forum's database?

EDIT: It's gone, within a minute or two.
23  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / We need more companies with original names. No more Bit-, -coin, or -pay. on: August 27, 2015, 01:55:55 AM
Yes, it's great that we can tell just by looking at your domain that you use bitcoin but we've gotten to the point where people will have some awful name and just add bit or coin to it somewhere and think it's the best thing ever. We're beyond that point now. Off the top of my head, I can think of Kraken. They chose a memorable name, that doesn't involve any part of the word bitcoin. No, they didn't go bankrupt because of it. Add some originality, people.
24  Bitcoin / Armory / Armory not recognizing that bitcoind is still catching up on: August 16, 2015, 08:46:00 PM
It always gets stuck on 70% of "Initializing Bitcoin Engine" when I try to start it. How can I fix this?
25  Economy / Investor-based games / "Investing" in ponzis is not a good idea. on: January 14, 2015, 02:46:24 AM
Since there are so many "honest ponzis" out there right now, I just thought I'd throw this out there:

  • You are not gambling, you are sending money to someone and hoping you get more back. There are no odds, no fairness.
  • Anyone can put up a blockchain API with a little bit of code and then just shut it down when they think they have enough money.
  • There are actual gambling websites out there...why would you take the chance on this when you can have actual odds with provable fairness

Make smart decisions. A fool and his money are quickly parted.
26  Bitcoin / Project Development / Node.js and Bitcoin on: January 06, 2015, 03:48:11 AM
Has anyone done any work with bitcoin backend with node.js? I'd be interested to know how many people use it and with what.
27  Other / Meta / Is the Service Announcements board too cluttered with new faucets? on: January 05, 2015, 11:13:53 PM
It's starting to go the way of the altcoins, with new ones every day from people just looking to make a buck off of advertisements and not much else. I'd like to hear the community's opinion on this.

29  Economy / Gambling / Let's create a new system for provable fairness. on: May 07, 2014, 02:49:19 PM
It would benefit the community if we all collaborated to make a new system. We should start off by listing problems with current provably fair systems.

  • The need to change a user seed every time in some cases.
  • Using variables in the hash that cannot be verified by the user that they were not changed after the bet. (Time, etc.)

We can add more if you post them here.

We should also list possible solutions to these problems. What if when a user signed on to a site, they input a deterministic wallet chain code. The site now locks that in to the account, and the user cannot have coins stolen because the site can always send to an address from that wallet and the client will have it. This also eliminates another problem.

As for the client seed, every roll could use the next deterministic address as the client seed. The site does not need to have the private keys, but if they have an address and a chain code, they can create all the next addresses, but not private keys.

I should not be the only person with input here. If you have ideas, post them. I'm just trying to get the ball rolling.

31  Economy / Gambling / An open discussion on Provably Fair on: April 29, 2014, 04:17:37 AM
Hello, a lot of you have probably seen me around here more than once, generally saying something about provable fairness. I've looked into this for a while and the community really needs to understand what it is.

When provably fair was first implemented as an idea, people trusted it because it was backed by sound math. Nowadays when I see provably fair, it seems like it's more of a fake thing used as a selling point for people who don't understand it.

I'm not here to tell anybody how they should implement a provably fair system. Provable fairness is defined in its title in that it is able to prove beyond a doubt that no results are being manipulated by the operator of the service by using strong proven cryptography. It's not something you can add a bunch of random looking numbers to and say "It looks like its random, let's just leave it at that".

I know some of you have PM'd me asking for verifiers for your sites and I'm sorry I haven't gotten back to you, I've been swamped and have had little time for bitcoin things.

That being said, my main point in this thread is we as a community have begun to get lazy with this. There are sites out there that claim to be provably fair but are not. If you look through my trust I'm sure you'll find at least one.

I cannot protect everybody from these sites and people need to learn what constitutes true provable fairness. A couple easy checks could follow something like this:
  • What variables are used to create the random roll? (I would say 90% of provably fair systems derive their results directly from a hash of a few things)
  • Does the client control at least one of those variables?
  • What does the server use as other input to a hash function? Is it something that they can change by a small amount, test to see if the new roll would benefit them and then substitute without the user knowing?
The above is a major point in which many people fail to look at

Again, I'm not here to tell people that they can't gamble where they want. If you win money from any site, congratulations. You may have won money or maybe you were just a part outside the extra few percent the owner manipulates.

Here is a great example of abusing the term provably fair.

So finally I ask everyone here to please, please please please get somebody that knows what they're doing to look over the site for you, and tell you whether or not it's provably fair.

Bitcoin was created so that you could use strong cryptography to secure your money. Why would you go around and say you believe in that money only to use sites that don't use strong cryptography to prove themselves fair when there are so many out there?

Thank you, and please discuss.
32  Economy / Scam Accusations / Luckynumber.me has holes in their provably fair system, allows for manipulation on: April 24, 2014, 11:33:36 AM
Luckynumber.me is not provably fair, because of the inclusion of time down to the millisecond in the decision of the final roll, this is why.

Say you make a bet at 3:34 PM, 13.23 seconds. The outcome of the roll was a win.

Luckynumber looks at your roll and calculates that it would be a win. So they pretend the server got the message a millisecond later. Let's do a new roll with a new time.

Your bet was now made at 3:34 PM, 13.24 seconds. The outcome of this roll is a loss.

This allows for major roll manipulation. They don't have to do this every bet. They can just do it on larger bets, or once every 20 rolls or so. It doesn't matter if some people win because they still have to keep their image up.

They can also repeat the time process multiple times until they get a losing roll.

You might say that you can see the clock at the bottom of the game and you know exactly when you clicked roll. Did you really? Do you know exactly how long it takes the message to get to the server and for the server to record the time? These are all things that can be used against you.

Gamble carefully.
33  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Need help with bitcoin JSON transactions. on: April 02, 2014, 11:00:40 PM
Hello, i'm trying to help someone double spend a transaction that they sent with too low of a fee. I sent 0.0001 to the address that sent the transaction and I was hoping that I could double spend it by using the same input they sent before and using the new input I sent them as a fee. (The reason is because they have money in PrimeDice and they can't withdraw a significant amount until this deposit confirms).

This is the transaction that needs to be double spent: https://blockchain.info/tx/de90913c18dc8e7f4123f9b54b41e82b55c8d1d04e29290198e49f1a1cf393a7

The problem is, I don't know very much of raw transactions, but the person i'm helping has the private key and can sign transactions. How could I form a transaction by using brainwallet.org/#tx or some other way so that I can get this confirmed for them? Thanks a lot.
34  Economy / Scam Accusations / People/alts that have given me negative trust with invalid reasons on: April 02, 2014, 05:26:14 AM
"dogma", gave me negative trust for "ripped me off on a trade over Skype... threatened me if I posted feedback about it.", which is strange considering that i've never given anyone on the forum my skype information let alone ever talked to the guy. The only positive trust he has given was to BitDoubler, who was given negative trust by mem after mem questioning his ability to run whatever bullcrap he was trying to run. I suspect dogma to be an alt account of BitDoubler used to abuse trust.

"divinity", gave me negative trust for "Tried to orally copulate my dog.". Obvious abuse of trust system, his only other sent trust is to mem, with a similarly dumb comment.

"btcmania", probably made the account "divinity", gave me the negative trust of "Cries like a baby, just look at his trust history toward others. Also ripped me off on fastbluff, and I think he urinated on my dog too." after I gave him negative trust for defending scam operators.

"RitzGrandCasino", has threatened me with supposed court orders, has given copy/paste negative trust to others. Continues to give me negative trust as I post evidence against the provable fairness of his casino. Acts like a child.
35  Economy / Service Discussion / I have not recieved my product from bitstickers.net [RESOLVED] on: March 28, 2014, 03:08:15 AM
They had glowing reviews from everyone i've seen use them, but now it's been 12 days (They estimate shipping at 5-7) and I don't have anything. They did not respond to my email either.
36  Economy / Gambling / rgbkey.github.io | Verify your provably fair rolls at popular sites on: March 21, 2014, 03:22:49 AM
Hello everyone, I've made a site where everybody can verify rolls on provably fair gambling sites using open source javascript.

Right now there are only three, but I am definately open to requests on what to add next. These things take time and effort so if I make one for a site you suggest please consider donating.

Also, you are free to submit pull requests at http://github.com/rgbkey/rgbkey.github.io and after checking them and changing them to match the rest of the site I will add them. If you do this, please make sure you put these in the /verify folder.

Please, suggest sites so that I can improve this page and make it more useful. Of course, all source can be viewed on the github page.

( Please note that I did not create the just-dice verifier, but merely ported it at dooglus' request. I do not take credit for that code.)

You can see all availible verifiers at http://rgbkey.github.io/verify/
37  Economy / Games and rounds / Discussion about RitzGrandCasino on: March 18, 2014, 02:15:53 PM
Please read the childish comments they made and allegations against them in this thread

Also read the official scam accusation thread here

I made this thread in the gambling section because they continue to make self moderated threads, and you are instructed to create a seperate thread. Also, not many people read the scam acxusation forum.

They made a non- self moderated thread in this subforum a few minutes ago, I posted links to the same threads and they immediately locked it.

Mods, please notify me if there is a problem.

Edit: I just got a lovely email from them
38  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Are there other ways to give bitcoins to people physically besides paper wallets on: March 16, 2014, 07:07:32 PM
I'm looking for something that doesn't have a private key on it, more like something where people go to a website and redeem it. Does something like this exist?
39  Economy / Services / Will make customized halftone QR codes for free on: March 16, 2014, 02:46:40 AM
I will make you a custom QR code from any image and the QR data like these:

(Yes, they scan)

Unfortunately due to the software the QR can be no larger than 29 characters, so it will not handle most bitcoin addresses and some URLs. I suggest using tinyurl.com to make it fit.

If you feel the need to tip me, 1CAPknsBhBbAcx6m8EpkNWihVCPTxwTCdN. But remember, all of these are free.

I will do these in my spare time, they are pretty fast to create.
40  Bitcoin / Project Development / Does anyone run a minecraft bitcoin server anymore? on: March 15, 2014, 12:14:56 AM
I was bored and remembered the good 'ol days when bitvegas was still around, and I really miss it. Is there any kind of minecraft (Or any other video game) with bitcoin integration? Thanks.
