Hey

Why is LTC rising vs BTC? Is it just pure speculation?
43  Economy / Economics / Even if PirateAt40 is running a Ponzi maybe it's good? on: July 26, 2012, 07:16:52 PM
Hi

I am not starting a thread to argue if, or if not, it is a Ponzi, this has been covered many times, and I am undecided.

I have been thinking, if, it turns out to a Ponzi, and causes some sort of crash, could this long term be a good effect on BitCoin? It would raise the awareness, during it's time assuming it crashes, it's allowed people to have more money and manage loaning/sub-saving businesses which they may not have been able to, and has driven a lot of activity within the community.

Similarly, if it turns out to be a Ponzi, most of these normally end when they run out of money to pay people off, more so than with the "owner" running with the funds.  How many BTC will actually be removed from the market, if it turns out to be a ponzi - arguabley few.

So what im saying, is, even if it turns out to be a Ponzi, isnt that a good thing for BTC as a whole?

The only negative I can see is that media might start to associate "bitcoin" with a system of "ponzi schemes" and it might hinder further mainstream adoption.

Just my 0.02BTC.
44  Economy / Securities / Gauging Interest in Short Bond on: July 16, 2012, 12:38:32 PM
Two questions

Does a bond already exist which is taking a negative position on USD/BTC? (given the current upswing, im sure some people might like to hedge or have a negative outlook)

Would there be any interest in a 0 coupon bond, as such, after IPO, all funds sold into USD, then at T-1 maturity, the USD are are used to buy back?

Could be split into tranches, or leveraged by a secondary bond.

Good/Bad idea?

51  Bitcoin / Pools / New Namecoin Pool on: July 14, 2011, 04:00:36 AM
Hey guys

Over the last few weeks i've been setting up a pool. It's still very much in Beta, but it would be much appreciated people could test it out by running a couple miners - I only have my 700MH/s *sadface*.

There's a lot more I am working to add to the website, especially in updating the design and more stats like current hash rate, and some pretty graphs Smiley.

Im around on andrew
  • kokade . com, and apr on #namecoin freenode.

And before anybody says about other pools being good, I think there are some good namecoin pools, im not disputing this, just trying to add more - make sure there isnt a possible >50% problem with NMC in the future. Im not here to argue for or against the benefits of NMC's!!!

Let me know what you guys think, and / or if you find any bugs, and / or what you think specifically I should add - i'll probably release the next update sometime next week .

53  Bitcoin / Mining / Please Can Someone Help With Linux + ATI + 2 cards on: June 16, 2011, 08:30:26 PM
Quick question guys, hoping somebody can help.

So, i've set up a Linux Arch box, with 2 x 6950's in.

[root@sky miner]# aticonfig --list-adapters
* 0. 01:00.0 AMD Radeon HD 6900 Series
  1. 04:00.0 AMD Radeon HD 6900 Series

Both are detected, buut

[root@sky miner]# python2 poclbm.py --user=user --pass=pass -d4 -obtcguild.com -v -f 0 -w 128
No device specified or device not found, use -d to specify one of the following

  •      Cayman
  • [1]     Pentium(R) Dual-Core  CPU      E5200  @ 2.50GHz

poclbm can only see 1 device - which appears to only use one of the cards (hashrate ~300, which is what I go when running with just 1 machine)

Is there anyway to get a mining thread on each of the devices or get poclbm running 1 instance on each device?  Is it to do with dummy plugs, I currently only have a monitor plugged into one of them, do I need a dummy plug for the other GPU? Without a dummy plug, what happens if I cross fire them? Is there anyway without dummy plugs?

54  Economy / Marketplace / Suggestion: Trust on: June 12, 2011, 02:45:05 PM
Hi

On another forum, with a marketplace, there's a concept of trust/feedback for buyers and sellers.

e.g. optionally, after trading with somebody, you can choose to write something in their "trust".  Their trust is a list of feedback viewable in their profile. i.e. "Sold X to Y, smooth transaction".

It might be nice to have this functionality here? At the moment it's hard to tell if somebody is trustworthy, or just post active.
55  Other / Obsolete (selling) / Perl / Java programmer on: June 11, 2011, 05:06:50 AM
For anything you might need doing, URL scraping, file parsing, website backends, cacheing, etc, then drop me a pm! My fees are minimal, and obviously all in BTC.

Currently PhD candidate in Data Mining, have a BSc in Computer Science.

Im near fluent in Perl and Java (especially regex stuff in perl, and J2EE). Can happily read and write C/C++, but a little slower. Know ANSI SQL, and *NIX environments - previously ran NetBSD, OpenSolaris and Fedora (Linux) systems at home.

Drop me a pm,

(also obviously happy to code stuff around data mining too, but unlikely anyone here wants this!)
56  Bitcoin / Mining / PSU for 3x6950's Rig, please help on: June 09, 2011, 03:35:05 PM
Cant quite figure out how strong PSU I need to order to complete my rig

I currently have a E5200 CPU, 1 stick DDR2 ram, 1x7200rpm HD, +3x6950's unlocked to 6970s.

Some websites site they drain 300w each per card, others 200w.  What size CPU can I go for, there seems to be a huge price jumps 1kw+.
57  Bitcoin / Mining / Help!, A Chasis/Case that's riser friendly, any suggestions? on: June 08, 2011, 09:22:34 PM
Looking for a case to support 4 graphics cards, all on risers from the motherboard.  Are there any desktop chassis which would be suitable for this? Or does anybody have any suggestions on the easiest way to do this, or a case that's easy to mod in this way?

I already have a motherboard with 4 PCIe slots, but, they're all very close to oneanother.

58  Bitcoin / Mining / Possibly Quite a Newb Question - Connecting 5870 to PCIe x1 on: June 07, 2011, 06:30:59 PM
Hi There

I've never had more than 1 graphics card in a PC that's not had 2 x PCIe x16.

Im looking at setting up a mining rig of some sort, and I have a motherboard here which seems near perfect, with an old Core2Duo, some cheap ram, and 1 x PCIe x16 + 2 x PCIe x1.

How do I go around connecting a graphics card to PCIe x1? Will it just fit with a lot of the board unplugged/work (if that makes sense?), or do I need an adaptor or sorts?

Could someone point me towards some info or a tutorial, I dont want to order 2 cards, then realize I need to order more to get the 2nd one working Smiley

59  Bitcoin / Mining / Are There Any Mining Tools Which Use The PKCS Library? on: June 06, 2011, 11:36:52 PM
I have access to a Sparc T2 Machine, which has hardware accel. SHA256.  Im curious about the speed, but I am unable to find any mining software that explicitly uses, or can use the PKCS lib.

Anybody know of any that I might have overlooked?  If not, anybody got a suggestion towards the cleanest code-base to work from to add a PKCS algo? (I am an able programmer).
