A month before the riots in Washington, the participants in the storming of the Capitol received $522,000 in bitcoin, analysts from Chainalysis said.
"It’s unclear to what degree the attack on the Capitol was planned in advance. ProPublica reports that in the weeks leading up, many Trump supporters discussed turning the event violent on Parler, a rightwing social media app now banned by most major tech platforms. However, we now have evidence that many alt-right groups and personalities, including Fuentes, received large Bitcoin donations in a single transaction that occurred a month before the riot on December 8. We have also gathered evidence that strongly suggests the donor was a now-deceased computer programmer based in France"
On January 6, Trump supporters broke into the Capitol, where Congress approved the results of the presidential election. According to Chainalysis, on December 8, an unknown French blogger transferred 28.15 BTC to 22 wallets. Far-right political commentator Nicholas Fuentes received the most 13.5 BTC during the assault, he spoke in the adjacent territory, analysts said. MacOS-based computers have long been used by scammers for hidden cryptocurrency mining. For five years, OSAMiner managed to evade detection, cybersecurity experts at SentinelOne said.  Malicious software appeared on the network no later than 2015. It was distributed through pirated games and other programs, including League of Legends and Microsoft Office for Mac. OSAMiner primarily targets China and the Asia-Pacific region, according to researchers. The specialists faced serious problems in obtaining the complete code of the malicious program; according to their statement, the final run only script was loaded already in a compiled form. This code is not human readable, which makes it difficult to analyze its safety "However, with the help of a little-known applescript-disassembler project and a decompiler tool we developed here at SentinelLabs, we have been able to reverse these samples and can now reveal for the first time their internal logic along with further IoCs used in the campaign".

A video appeared on WeChat showing an order to sell 21 million BTC on Binance, which provoked exchanges of Binance, Huobi and OKEx to exchange claims, writes CoinDesk. The clip went viral last week on WeChat, a popular China-based social media platform." Blockchain analysts at CipherTrace and CryptoQuant have denied placing such an order on the platform. According to the Bitcoin emission schedule, 21 million BTC will be mined by 2140. This combination will allow him to unlock the IronKey drive, which stores the private keys from a digital wallet with 7,002 BTC. He received this amount back in 2011, when he lived in Switzerland. One of the owners of the crypt simply gave him thousands of bitcoins as a reward for creating an animated video about the currency. Stefan has already made eight attempts, he has tried eight of the passwords most often used by him unsuccessfully and Stefan is not alone in this trouble. Many people around the world have lost access to their bitcoins due to lost or forgotten passwords. According to analysts at cryptocurrency company Chainalysis, of the existing 18.5 million BTC, about 20% lie in lost or otherwise blocked wallets. In total, this is about $140 billion.
“Through the years I would say I have spent hundreds of hours trying to get back into these wallets,” said Brad Yasar, an entrepreneur in Los Angeles who has a few desktop computers that contain thousands of Bitcoin he created, or mined, during the early days of the technology. While those Bitcoin are now worth hundreds of millions of dollars, he lost his passwords many years ago and has put the hard drives containing them in vacuum-sealed bags, out of sight...."

The Binance cryptocurrency exchange has started blocking access to its main trading platform for US residents. The exchange announced the termination of service to users from the United States a year ago, according to The Block. Until now, the exchange has allowed American users to access its platform. A US resident just had to click the "I'm not [American]" button to create an account on Binance.com. Binance currently sends emails to US residents based on their IP addresses. "We noticed that your account may be linked to an IP address from the United States. In accordance with regulatory requirements we are unable to provide services to citizens or residents of the USA […] If you are a us citizen or resident, withdraw your assets from your account within 90 days. We recommend that you consider using Binance U.S. or other platforms in the United States, " the letter says. Binance took these steps after the US government launched two lawsuits against the BitMEX crypto derivatives exchange. Recently, Forbes published an article describing the scheme of evading Binance from regulation in the United States. Binance.US, the us division of Binance, was launched in September 2019, but trading volumes on this platform remain insignificant compared to Binance.com. According to The National Post, Canada's tax agency is asking the court to oblige the country's leading cryptocurrency exchange Coinsquare to transfer the data of all its users since 2013. The CRA sent a corresponding appeal – the first in the history of Canada-in September. In it, the Agency States that this information is necessary in order to make sure that Coinsquare customers "comply with their obligations" under the country's tax laws. Как сообщает CoinDesk управление финансовых услуг (FSC) Южной Кореи готовит поправки в законодательство, обязывающие поставщиков сервисов в сфере виртуальных активов (VASP) раскрывать личные данные пользователей. Изменения подготовлены для закона о "Передаче и использовании установленной информации о финансовых транзакциях" для предотвращения отмывания денег. Под VASP в законе понимаются "коммерческие структуры, которые вовлечены в покупку и продажу виртуальных активов", а также поставщики кастодиальных услуг и брокеры. По новым правилам, VASP должны будут использовать счета на основе реальных имен при осуществлении финансовой транзакции с клиентом. Кроме того, VASP будет должен открыть счет на реальное имя в финансовом учреждении и получить сертификат в Корейском агентстве информационной безопасности. A study of the Atlas VPN service says that the blockchain industry has lost $13.6 billion since 2012 due to hacker attacks. Payment company PayPal is considering options for absorbing cryptocurrency companies to expand its product line. Among them is the BitGo custodian, Bloomberg reports, citing knowledgeable sources.
