Hello,

No set price.  Make an offer that accounts for shipping.
23  Economy / Trading Discussion / How to prove Bitcoin transactions to a bank? on: March 22, 2014, 01:51:06 AM
I have an issue.  I'm buying a home thanks to BTC (good).  The bank wants proof of BTC ownership (somewhat bad) and wants proof of USD going into and out of BTC (insanely bad).

First, keep in mind that, although I have a sizeable and easy-to-prove stash of physical BTC, I liquidated the vast majority of my digital holdings.

Second, while I use Coinbase almost exclusively for purchasing Bitcoins, and while I use BitPay almost exclusively for cashing out (except for Coinbase, but that doesn't matter since it's inherently linked to my bank account), the BTC that's cashed out through BitPay comes from multiple sources including mobile wallets, desktop wallets, and Coinbase withdrawals to an external account.  Accordingly, the bank is having a fit that the money leaving my bank account to Coinbase doesn't match the money coming back in.

I told my realtor that I believe the bank has several options:

1)  Learn more about BTC, quit asking for dumb, irrelevant stuff, and accept the fact that providing absolute, definitive proof of ownership would require providing private keys, and this would essentially make the bankers owners as well (not happening).  And, even in this case, I don't know how I could ever prove that the coins weren't loaned to me at some point.

2)  Let me provide them with every iota of transaction data available including all bank statements, all transaction histories from all mobile, desktop, and paper wallets, screenshots of every transaction and every .csv export I can find, etc., leaving them with a mountain of paperwork that they can try to piece together.  This would total hundreds, perhaps thousands of pieces of evidence.

3)  Be fucking reasonable and understand the idiocy of the length that someone would have to go to fabricate the evidence I have already supplied them (which includes pictures of my physical coins, mining hardware, in-progress mining snapshots of CGminer, countless bank statements, .csv exports from both BitPay and Coinbase, screenshots of particular screens on both Coinbase and BitPay showing corresponding email addresses, deposit addresses, etc.

Given the obvious fact that Bitcoin and other virtual currencies fluctuate in value against the dollar, I don't even understand how the bank would expect the money going in to match the money going out.  Throw in cashouts from mined coins amidst coins that were purchased and deposits from multiple sources and you get one hell of a knot to untie.

Anybody else have any better suggestions on what I can provide to the bank?   Huh

Hello,

Up for sale are five (5) 2013 1-BTC Casascius Bitcoins.

These are the brass coins.  They have never been touched by hands and have been kept in a safe and undisturbed since receiving them from Casascius.  They have not been played with, dropped, or anything like that -- these went straight from the mail to my safe.

Price: 1.4 BTC each, or 7 BTC buys all five.  Price includes shipping.

I'm open to reasonable offers.

Come get 'em! Smiley

25  Economy / Goods / [WTS] 3 x 2013 1-BTC Casascius Coins on: March 09, 2014, 05:05:37 PM
Hello,

Up for sale are three (3) 2013 1-BTC Casascius Bitcoins.

These are the brass coins.  They have never been touched by hands and have been kept in a safe and undisturbed since receiving them from Casascius.

Price: 1.8BTC each, or 5.5BTC 5.3BTC buys all three.  Price includes shipping.

*Note: I'm not sure what these are going for nowadays, and I'm aware these are a bit pricey even compared to the premium Casascius originally charged.  But, with Casascius out of business and with 2013 behind us, I have little doubt the premium for these will continue to increase over time.

Edit:  Taking offers now.
26  Other / Off-topic / A question about genetic data compression on: February 25, 2014, 12:00:30 AM
I'm aware that lossless genetic data compression technology exists and is improving.  However, I'm curious to know:

1) Can the entirety of data comprising an individual's genetic makeup be accurately compressed such that it meets the following criteria?:

        a)  All compressed markers (e.g. a marker might be information describing a nucleotide insertion, a genotype of a cell, etc.) must correspond to only one individual and no other.

        b)  Furthermore, these markers must provably correspond to the same individual over infinite time.

        c)  The markers themselves must be able to be encrypted, compressed, or altered in some way such that there would be a set of *new* markers, and these new markers must also provably correspond to one individual over infinite time, but cannot be (at least easily) traced back to the original markers.

2) If this can't be done for the entirety of data comprising an individual's genetic makeup (e.g. changes to an individual's genome over time make it impossible to provably link him to old markers), is there some specific set of genetic data that would work?
27  Economy / Service Discussion / R.I.P. Gox 13/02/2014 on: February 14, 2014, 03:41:52 AM
I'm calling it.

Tonight/today (depending on where you are), Gox earns its tombstone.

It reads:

"Mt. Gox - Exchanging Magic for Mountains of S*** since 2010"

R.I.P.  you filthy animal.
28  Economy / Speculation / The Gox Incentive on: February 10, 2014, 10:44:55 PM
In purportedly owing their customers (correct me if I'm wrong) ~68,000 BTC, Mt. Gox has a very large financial incentive to see the market tank.

Do you think this incentive will play itself out, or are there any indicators to suggest it has already?

30  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Just bought BFL jolly in store at Tiger Direct on: January 31, 2014, 02:46:57 AM

Who is still waiting months for theirs?  Are your pitchforks ready?
31  Economy / Computer hardware / [WTS] 1 x 7970 XFX [SOLD] on: January 30, 2014, 07:15:23 PM
Hello,

I have three (3) MSI one (1) XFX brand 7970 for sale.  I'm selling them because I'm freeing up space in my existing rigs to make way for some newer cards.

All three cards run without issue.  Two of the cards are approximately 3-4 months old, and one card is only 3 weeks old.  The cards are so new because they are replacements under a square-trade warranty I had with Tiger Direct.

I am accepting offers made in BTC preferably, but I will entertain offers made in other currencies.  Make me an offer I can't refuse!

Terms:  Account for shipping when making an offer.  Buyer pays first, no questions asked. I'd prefer not to deal with escrow.  I have rep upon request, and you can find me at depth=2 on the default trust list.

Pictures to come when I'm not at work.

Edit: Two of the three original cards sold today for $420 apiece.  I have one left.  Make me an offer Smiley

I have 48.3 GLB I'd like to sell for BTC.

I will likely go with any reasonable offer.

Make one Smiley

Edit:  Buyer sends first, no questions asked (okay, maybe one or two).
33  Other / Off-topic / Mainstream music extra Satanic lately? on: December 14, 2013, 08:29:07 AM
Disclaimer:  This is not a conspiracy post of any kind, but I'm generally wondering if anyone else has noticed this trend recently.

In rap and r&b music videos, aside from cars and bitches, it seems Satanism is making a run for its money.

If I recall clearly:
-Lady Gaga wears a baphomet headdress and prays to evil spirits like Judas.
-Katy Perry is an alien and sings about selling your soul.
-Beyonce's innocent character dies in car fire in a music video and comes back as a gothic character.
-Rihanna sings about being possessed and her innocent character is also lost somehow to reveal a darker character.
-Miley Cyrus's innocent character told the cuddly disney bears to go fuck themselves, and her 'anthem' is essentially the satanist motto "do what thou wilt" vs. "this is our party and we can do what we want" while also mentioning that she "owns the night" because she "bounced the light"
-Eminem's innocent character is transformed into an evil Eminem in some kind of weird brain experiment and convinces his innocent character that being (rap) king isn't good enough, and that the only way to go is to be (rap) god

What happened to metal?  At least they come right out and tell you they're evil.
34  Economy / Service Announcements / Chess.com Accepts Bitcoin! on: November 26, 2013, 10:54:34 PM
I scored a win.  I emailed Chess.com through my account and convinced them to accept Bitcoin as payment.

Enjoy! Cheesy
35  Economy / Service Discussion / Bitcoinity.org...Penguin? on: November 10, 2013, 12:05:25 AM
This may be one of my oddest posts in a while, but I'll do my best to describe what I just experienced.

I was simply watching the price movement at Bitcoinity.org on the USD markets when I heard a beep from my speakers.  All of a sudden, a video of a penguin sliding across ice on a green backdrop was displayed just above the chart.  It wasn't advertising anything whatsoever...it was just a penguin sliding around, being a penguin.

Anyone else see this before?  I've used Bitcoinity for months and have never seen this.
36  Economy / Service Discussion / BFL calling about discount promotion (lol) on: October 29, 2013, 07:19:32 PM
I just received an unexpected phone call from butterfly labs.  The number was showing up as originating from Oregon.  The number was 971-208-9936.

The lady I spoke with had a thick Indian-like accent.  I thought she kept saying she was a representative from "Butterfly Sales," but I eventually asked if she meant Butterfly Labs, and she confirmed this.

She told me that they are offering, "for this week only," discounts of something like 25% off any purchase.

I told her I would never do business with them again, that they should never call me again, and that I am considering contacting a lawyer about their business practices.

The lady said she "didn't understand."  I told her I didn't care if she understood.  Then I hung up.

Anybody else getting calls like this?

Hey, Josh.  Up yours, buddy.

38  Bitcoin / Mining support / What is 'G' when it comes to difficulty of shares? on: October 09, 2013, 02:08:56 PM
I was mining some litecoins and found a share at difficulty "2.22G"

What the hell is G?  If 2.22M is 2.22 million, then G is...?
39  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Buying a miner with fiat has merit on: August 27, 2013, 04:07:31 PM
It's been suggested that purchasing a miner (e.g. Block Erupter) is futile because ROI should be calculated in terms of mined coins and not fiat.  This line of reasoning is based upon the idea that it is better to purchase coins and sit on them rather than buying a miner.

Contrary to this belief, calculating ROI of a miner in terms of fiat has its merits.

I purchased a few dozen block erupters a while back with BTC, but then immediately repurchased the BTC spent on the miners.  In other words, I essentially purchased my miners at a set fiat price since my total BTC holdings didn't vary.

For kicks, lets say I purchase these miners with 15 BTC at a $100 USD conversion rate.  Is it likely that I will mine 15 BTC with these erupters?  Not likely.  But, since I effectively purchased them with fiat, recouping 15 btc is no longer a concern.  I simply need to recoup $1500 in mined BTC to achieve 100% ROI in the scenario.  If the value of BTC increases and continues to do so significantly, achieving 100% ROI becomes more and more likely.

This method protects against a drop in BTC value because the hardware itself serves to hedge against the initial investment.  If I spend $1500 to purchase 15 Btc and the price per btc declines to $70, then I'm down $450 (I.e. 30 x 15 = 450).  But, if I purchase the miner instead and the price drops to $70, I always retain the option to sell the miner.  For example, selling the miner purchased originally at $1500 for $1000 at a $70 conversion rate, I can receive 14.28 btc for it, and that's on top of the few btc I would've mined already.

In other words, purchasing a miner with fiat is better if the price of btc drops, but it's also better than doing nothing at all if the price of btc goes up.  Buying btc outright may be better if you assume that btc value will only continue to increase, but this is a riskier approach.
40  Economy / Computer hardware / [WTS] PSU for BFL Little SC on: August 25, 2013, 06:40:38 PM
A couple months ago, I successfully sold a pre-order for a Little SC from BFL to a customer in Germany.

Due to restrictions on sending batteries and PSUs internationally, the buyer requested that I ship the Little SC without the PSU so that there wouldn't be any problems with customs.

So, I have a spare PSU from BFL that I no longer need.

I'm asking 0.5 BTC shipped to US customers only.
