Hi,

I have a simple question regarding the tx fees.

Fees are about 1 $ ( 0.00018BTC) now.
They have been higher ( 0.0039btc in December 2017) and lower in the past.
And of course, it depends on the "weight" of the Tx in Byte
the weight of tx issued by 1xxx addresses is heavier than tx issues by Bench32 addresses (3xx or bcxxx), right ?
With segwit the tx fees are reduced by 40% (found online).

So when a segwit address send coins to a segwit or a legacy (1xxxxx) the fees are low.

However then, when a legacy address wants to send the coins to another legacy or segwit, the tx are higher.

This is all good by me today, but what about in 5 years?

Today we still have a BTC relatively low in price ( $5.8k).
Which mean that if I want to store $58 in BTC I get about 0.01BTC on my paper wallet.



So my question is the following :
If I load some legacy addresses (paper wallet for example or vanity addresses ) with some low amount of crypto ( $50 to $100).
(They are going to be birthday presents for family members in 5 to 10 years).

When they will want to redeem the coins to a segwit or LN compatible wallet, what kind of fees are we expecting?
Can we expect tx fees to always stay in the $0.1 to $3 forever or are they going to follow BTC price and become (in USD) astronomically high?

Grace a Halab, il une méthode bien plus facile pour pour faire le classement.
 

@cestmoi, je crois que tu t'es bien fait chier à faire tes stats. Il y avait (peut être) plus simple.

Avec l'outil de DdmrDdmr. Onglet 'Received Merit charts', à droite, tu ajoutes les pseudos que tu veux visualiser.
Après, tu peux jouer avec les sections et les dates, et tu obtiens un graph de ce style :

Alors aujourd'hui je vais m'atteler à quelque chose bête comme choux mais pas forcément connut de tous : l'archivage digital.


Back story :
De nombreuses fois je m'etais pose la question sans en trouver la réponse : comme archiver un message pour le garder comme preuve.

Sur la partie FR du forum, c'est relativement bon enfant. Par contre en META, voila le niveau de trolling, de preuve et d'investigation qu'il y a.
C'est quote de quote, screenshot and tralala !
Je me suis rendu compte que les quotes peuvent être cassées si le message original est supprimé.
Plusieurs fois j'ai vu des gens "archiver" les messages, sans vraiment comprendre comment ils faisaient.



Debut du tutoriel :

Une fois que vous avez un lien web que vous voulez sauvegarder (message, topic, site web....) vous  vous rendez sur https://archive.fo/

Cela va vous ouvrir cette page :




Et vous pouvez copier le lien que vous voulez.
Si par exemple je veux archiver le fait que Halab ait ajouté une regle de cours de recreation, vous cliquez sur le numéro de post, et l'adresse lien dans la barre web va changer et être spécifique au message.

L'archivage sauvegarde la page entiere (20 messages), mais si vous faites bien attention,



Il y a bien la reference du message.

L'idée était de faire d'abors une "quote"  puis un archivage, comme ça même si Halab supprime son message (ma quote reste mais le lien ira vers le 1er message du topic au lieu de son message)  l'archivage numérique reste et il suffit juste de vérifier que je n'ai pas fait une fausse quote.

Hier j'ai reçu un message prive de Xtralev a propos de du Hack de Cryptopia.
Dans son message il voulais bien me faire part de deux ou trois info croustillantes (que je ne vais pas répéter) mais uniquement via email protonmail ou alors via PGP.

En 5 ans de BTC je n'avais qu'une seule fois envoye un email en PGP.

J'ai bien entendu plusieurs address protonmail mais je n'avais pas envie de lui communiquer mes emails.

Donc PGP !

J'ai regarder sur le Appstore (Apple) et il n'y a rien de gratuit qui marche ! Rageant !

Puis je me suis souvenu de ce que j'avais fais en 2014 - 2015 : Igolder.

Je ne me suis jamais servi de igolder pour trader, mais ils ont mis a la disposition de tous un outil de generation de clefs PGP et de chiffrage et déchiffrage.
Ils indiquent que leur server ne stockent rien.


Bref, si vous avez besoin de faire un petit message en rapide sans trop de conséquences   alors mon tutorial ci-dessous en utilisant  Igolder  peut faire l'affaire.

Uniquement une personne en possession de la clef privée correspondante (vous) pourra le déchiffrer.

I'm hanging around this forum a lot.
Most of the conversations are either about BTC (it makes sens haha !!) or in Meta about " spammers, Plagiarizer /Lauda/Mafia/Merit/DT/ cryptohunter/ TECSHARE/ ....." drama (Pick one!!) or about the flatearth or about the VAXX or about US politics.

I have a feeling that we could talk about something else, like people's passions. Mine are watches !!!!

I'll use a quote from Cøbra to illustate my point.

The bigger a forum gets, and the more niche and limited the topic, the less there is to actually discuss. Aside from the usual "who is Satoshi Nakamoto?" type posts, and the day-to-day price movements and happenings, there's not a lot of things to talk about. There's more people on here than possible discussion material. You get people who care a lot about their rank and making money just posting nonsense, but if you banned all of these people, there wouldn't be more quality discussion, there would be about the same as before, but you would just notice it more because all the crap is gone. When you lurk for a while though you quickly develop a sense of which topics and sections are good parts of the site.

It's a little crazy how a lot of users on here care about magic internet points though. Maybe there is some psychological thing about a fascination with points, because it seems to be a thing on every social platform. I remember how even decades old forum software had those reputation points, Reddit has karma, Facebook has likes, etc. It's like nobody builds anything social without some sort of point system attached so users can compare the length of their virtual dicks. Maybe this explains how Bitcoin caught on so well when it was unknown, because it was pretty nice and somehow satisfying to own a lot of useless internet currency, but the more people thought that way the less useless and more valuable it eventually became.

I have one passion outside of BTC : Watches !

My passion all started when i was 8 years old and my mom bought me a flik flak




I loved it !!
Then at 14 and i asked my mom to buy me a swatch.
Then at my 18th i got a Seiko quartz (nothing fancy).

I was hooked !! I told myself that if i could i would indulge me with nice watches.


Fast forward the end of university, with my first few pay checks i bought a Rolex GMT IIC, this was in 2010 (long before learning about BTC).

I've worn this watch daily for 8 years, doing some scuba diving, mountain biking, traveling .... taking thousands of photos.
I sold it in November 2018



But since i was a watch afficonados, one wasn't enought, i bought an Omega Speedmaster premoon, it was in 2012. Back then they were affordable. They have now double in value!

The Omega speedmaster is the 1st to have been on the moon, omega started to use this as a selling point from 1970 and it is on the back of the watch.
My model was made the same year as the one from appolo 11.
My omega could have been the one on the moon. I sold after owning for 1 year. I made a small Fiat profit.




Then I bought a Breitling, i Paid in Fiat, I didn't wear it much so i decided to sell it.
And this is were it become interesting. I sold that Bretling in 2013 for BTC (approximately 7 BTC).







Moving forward, Bull run of 2017, and the money i put aside for a "new watch" (at this point i only had the GMT Rolex left) start to grow and be huge.
I decided to sell 1.5BTC to buy a new Rolex, a white gold Daytona :
This is the model. This is the best watch i ever owned (so far).





October 2018 / november 2018 The bear market settles in, i decided to sell the GMT II C and the Daytona for more BTC.
I was able to sell the watches for more money than what i paid (Fiat) but also for more BTC than what i have spent (1.5BTC to buy the daytona, got 6 BTC when i sold it).


So now, i don't have a Rolex anymore, it doesn't bother me.
A family member gifted me the Apple watch 4 for Xmas, it is nice and fun.

But here is the catch, i'm already eyeing a new watch : the Audemard Piguet Roayal Oak Offshore.

Je cherche un dieu des macro excels.

C'est pour un project au travail sur un PC qui n'a jamais touche un crypto wallet et n'en touchera jamais.
Le fichier excel ne sera jamais en relation avec un PC "crypto", pas la peine d'essayer de mettre un petit code malicieux pour recuper des priv key ou des passphrase.

Ceci étant dis, je cherche quelqu'un (je suis pret a filer quelques euros) pour m'aid.

J'ai un fichier excel ( en general 200 ou 300 lignes) pour faire du chiffrage.

Sur chaque ligne j'ai une action qui a un coût unitaire et une quantité.
Ce coût unitaire est la somme de plusieurs facteur (utilisation d'outils, quantité de matériaux ...). Tous ces coûts sont en "colonne".

Je souhaite faire un mega tableau qui prend chaque ligne, la met comme "header" et insert en dessous les valeurs qui sont dans les colonnes.


J'ai mis ce Ethercalc pour donner un example.
Mais en gros il faut copier et trier les ligne 3-4-5-6 et les organiser comme j'ai fais de A14 a E25


La logique est la suivante :
on fait une ligne a la fois (on commence en ligfne 3)
Il y a des valeurs dans D3-E3-F3-G3-H3 alors on les copie et transpose en D14 a D18  // On ne copie pas / transpose pas les zeros / vide
Pour les case copiees, on prend les meme une ligne au dessus (Ligne 2) et on colle/transpose on colone C (C14 a C18)
Dans le case de la ligne 2 il y a des info en D2-E2-G2   je veux aussi recuperer les info qui sont 5 cellules a la droite de ces cellules (I2-J2-L2) et les copier/ transposer en E14  a E18
Finalement pour les colone N a Q (de la ligne2) je veux prendre les valeurs differentes de 0 /vide et les copier / transposer en dessous de ce qu'on a deja fais (en colonne E -> E17 et E18)
Je veux aussi prendre C3 et la mettre en D17 et D18

We don't know yet if they can cope for the loss or how the users will be affected.
 I once read that they had 1 million users.
I know that they have about 100 staff in Christchurch (NZ)

Hi everybody.

I am trying to write a tutorial for best practice and also to check that my coins are safe from hackers but also safe from being lost if I die.



This is the problem I am trying to solve :
How to  transfer the ownership of my coins after my death and/or  recovery of my data/ coins  after a Fire / tsunami / burglary.

The coins are stored on a ledger Nano S, so I need to be able to save and share my 24 words seed.
I may also have some coins on an exchange, so I need to be able to save and share my 2FA key, login, password.
Finally I may also have some coins on random wallets on my linux computer.


A few information about my situation :
I live in a safe and developed country.
I am married and there is no tax on inheritence (so, no I am not trying to dodge taxes, there won't be any).
I have a small safe at home but I wouldn't store any sensitive information, because it is not water proof / fire proof. And any good thieve can open it in less than 2h.  But I can store in it a USB key, my passport, and some jewellery.
I only use my linux for the  wallets that are not on the Nano S.
And I use my Apple MacBook for the Ledger Nano S and accessing my Binance and other exchanges.
I have a paid antivirus on my macbook
My linux computer is clean.
No one knows I own crypto.
My ledger has 2 passcode, one with 15% of my coins and one with 85% of my coins (in the event of someone robbing me with a gun).
My wife has 0 knowledge about crypto / computers... I need to find easy solutions.

My current back up system / recovery  :

• I have a deposit box in an underground, fireproof vault. Something top of the art that had never been robbed ever. imagine Fort Knox crossed with a Rothschild vault. My wife only gains access to the vault after my death.
• All my 2FA are on my main phone and also backed up on a second phone in the vault. This works for now, but that phone may not wake up / work in 3 years if I need to access my 2FA again. The 2FA I use is Google Authenticator. I had in mind to switch to AUTHY but after contacting the support they confirmed my that their service is not fail proof and if a hacker clone my SIM card they can set up a new device and get all my 2FA. Well, in theory if they also find my login and password they could go my my Binance and other services.
• The Seed of my ledger is on a paper in that vault. That paper is in a small sealed bag (to protect the ink).
• The seeds of my software wallets, my email account passwords, some old private keys are stored on a USB key (in that vault) that has the following encryption:
• the USB key can only be mounted by a linux and ask for a very long password (USB key encrypted with LUKS https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Linux_Unified_Key_Setup).
  
• this is dumb, but right now the password is on a piece of paper, with the USB key, inside that vault.
• the USB key contain the ".key" file and the "data base" file  of my "keepass" https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/KeePass. I use keep pass to write all the sensitive data I have.
  
• the data on KEEPASS has been written from a fresh clean live linux.

Problems :
The Vault is not in the same city as me. Imagine 2h flight and $300 return.
I intend to move away and will be 10 to 12h of this current vault. I could move everything to a new vault in the new country. But I would rather find a solution that let me update my info. With a central physical back up point.
The distance is not much of a problem for the data that is "fixed" in time (my 24 words seed), old private keys, 2FA to existing accounts ....
But if I want to buy a Trezor and send all my crypto from nano to Trevor, I then need to back up and put to a safe place the new seed of my trezor.  





Alternative solution / thinking out loud :

For a while now I have been using a software called Cryptomator https://cryptomator.org
But I have just used it to make an encrypted folder on my computer with some random photos. Just to play around.

I wonder if this could be a solution, using  cloud encrypted (with Cryptomator) storage of the "data base" file of my Keepass.
Keeping the ".KEY" file as well as the master key  of the Cryptomator software in the Vault.

I could also have the "data base" file on a few UBS keys protected with  LUKS Password. The password would be in my head and also in the Vault (for my wife). Those USB key would be given to family or relative. The USB keys are useless without the password and the ".KEY" file that is in the vault.

I would hide somewhere in the house a microSD card  LUSK encrypted that contain the .Key of the keepass software. This is obviously needed every time I want to launch keepass and update the "data base" on Cryptomator as well as creating new USB keys for family and relative.

Doing so, would allow me to store in the vault the ".key" of keepass and the Key of Cryptomator.
Both would be needed to recover data from the USB key stored at friends or the data on my dropbox / google drive

What do you think ?


Next problem, how to store a USB key for 10 years ?
What if the guy above me (in the vault) is storing a huge magnet, or a meteorite that is highly  magnetic.


Do you see any flaw ? any improvement ? any way to make it simpler ?

Pourquoi un tel topic ? Certain d'entre nous récupèrent des smerit via la partie anglaise, et ne suivent pas forcement la partie FR a fond.
C'est un moyen de redistribuer dans notre board les smerit.

Il n'y a aucun avantage a garder ses smerit, Theymos a meme dit que ce n'est pas impossible que dans le future les smerit aient une date de péremption.

Aussi, cela peut aider un peu Halab a trouver des posts qui en valent la penne.

L’idée est de nominer des messages qui ne sont pas de vous (le but n'est pas de faire du merit begging).

SI possible essayons de trouver des message appartenant a des utilisateurs qui se connectent regulierement.
Sur la partie Anglaise il y a des tonnes de Smerit envoye au compte de Satoshi qui ne s'est pas connecte depuis 2010

Si vous voulais voir de super stats sur les merit il suffit d'aller le site BPIP (mon profil)


la plus part d'entre vous le sait déjà, évitez de donner trop de merit d'un coup a une personne sur un seul poste. Les anglais s'en rendent compte  super vite et donnent de mauvaise reputation.
