2  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Accredited investors starting to get interested in BTC.. on: December 30, 2013, 10:13:49 PM
My father is a private wealth planner.  Over the past couple months I have been hearing his clients calling into him and asking him about BTC.  Usually ends up with me getting on the phone with them and going over everything.  They for the most part have all been super positive when asking about BTC, but have some general questions and misconceptions.

My question is where is a good place to find the more technical info about bitcoin?

That is the part that I really can't  obviously explain.  Most of these clients are engineers and business owners, so they are pretty much not "day 1" material types.  Anyway, the good part is that if clients are calling in and wondering to get in, there must just be tons of cash that isn't in BTC that will be very soon.  As soon as someone in the USA comes up with a legit exchange that doesn't suck is the time BTC will take off.  Just my opinion from some observations as of late.  There must be a large list of high net worth individuals that are in the same situation.
3  Economy / Service Discussion / Recently Used SnapCard.. my experience on: December 10, 2013, 01:27:57 AM
Over the black friday weekend I decided to spend some BTC.  Got a TV, Xbox, and some games.  Decided to try the SnapCard service for the first time.  Overall, it was pretty easy to use, IMO.  Just got in the TV today, and the Xbox and games came 2 days after I ordered them through amazon prime.

I don't have a coinbase account, so all I did was add the stuff to my shopping cart and selected "pay w/BTC."  After that, they give you an address to send the BTC to.  Once I sent the BTC to the address, the transaction was essentially complete.

As far as customer service, it is pretty quick. They have a quick chat box on the website and my questions were answered quickly by a live rep.

I would use the service again, for sure.
4  Economy / Speculation / PSA : 17,000 coins until $500 on: October 23, 2013, 08:11:34 PM
Waiting for someone to pull the rug out from underneath this beast.. until then... game on
5  Economy / Speculation / DAE think we are headed for a pretty large breakout soon? on: September 28, 2013, 04:17:40 AM
Seems like all we saw on this last run up to 250+ on the hourly charts always brought these ascending triangle breakouts.  Looking at the daily charts now it would seem that this is forming again.  I'd probably be a seller at 120 if it failed.  Part of me thinks it's too soon, but 250 could have just been a bump on a medium term much longer trend.  OFC, this probably has been stated before earlier in on of these threads, but just sayin.
6  Economy / Service Discussion / Clark Moody : Not showing total depth of market? on: March 17, 2013, 05:09:58 PM
Does anyone else not get the full depth of the market anymore?  For example, on the ask side, I have them arranged in 10 cent increments, but it goes to only 52.3 or something then jumps to 1341 then some outrageously large ask @ 13456321 BTC @ like .1 coins being offered at that price.

7  Economy / Service Discussion / Is there any new info on Bitcoinica? on: November 10, 2012, 12:42:01 AM
Haven't been keeping up, but wanted to make sure I wasn't missing the new claim period, if that does indeed happen.

thx
8  Other / Off-topic / Can someone help me find a chart/picture that was on the foums at some point? on: October 29, 2012, 09:03:12 PM
I am sure most of you have seen it.

It is a picture with a bunch of different transaction types around the world, for example black market encompasses xx% and they were all drawn nicely with little circles that were representative of the percentage of transaction size.

I know, odd request, but I need it for a presentation I am doing.  I think I have seen it in the speculation forum at one point, but I have absolutely no idea how to find this thing.

Thanks!
9  Bitcoin / Mining support / Doing a presentation on BTC for class - could use some advice, please! on: September 13, 2012, 11:01:39 PM
Who I am and what I am doing

I have been involved with BTC since right before the peak @ $30.  I started to dollar cost average then and continue to do so today.  For our ENCxxxx class, we need to give a presentation on something informative.  I thought this would be a great opportunity to promote bitcoin to a decent demographic (public institution).
As for my plans for the presentation, I want to hand out a USB stick to each person with their names on it before the start.  Then at the end, to show the tangible and dynamic nature of bitcoin, I wanted to transfer coins to their own personal wallet while I am at the computer/projector.  I plan on giving them .5 btc each.  More on this below…
I have about 10 minutes to do this .ppt presentation and wanted to spend about 2-3 minutes on the bitcoin creation/mining process.  Although I have been invested in BTC for quite some time, I really do not know a whole lot about mining, tbh.

What I need help with and what I can offer in return (although not much Smiley )

I wanted to cover a few things about mining.. basically probably some easy questions for most you could at least link me to or might have some interesting literature yourself on the subject.
In exchange for your help, I am willing to promote your bitcoin/mining operation with signage (like jpeg ? on ppt presentation) or any other marketing materials you would like passed out that pertain to bitcoin/mining.  Anyway, I just have a few questions.. Or maybe you could suggest things to add for this mining part of the presentation…

1. What is the total computational power of the bitcoin network?

2. If a single user wanted to start mining coins, what are the specs of a new mining computer, what is its computational power, how much avg electricity do you use per month?

3. What do you think is relevant or interesting about the mining / creation process?

4. I wanted to know a bit more about how the whole “pool” system works and that whole process.

Other things

1. Do you think transferring them each .5 btc is excessive?  I didn’t wanna sound cheap, but it also may be interesting to show how dynamic btc is by transferring them like .0001?

2. If I want to pull this off in real-time, I will need an application that allows me to copy/paste enter a string of addresses into the application with all the same amounts going to each wallet and send them out simultaneously.  Is there an application that allows you to do this?  All I have ever used is that bitcoin client that makes you download the entire blockchain.

3. What else do you think I should include on the USB?  I was going to put the presentation on there in addition to links to the bitcoin client etc..

4. Is there a fast way I can create all these new wallets for these individual USB thumb drives?

So, anyway, I guess that is about it.  I would greatly appreciate any advice or criticism.  I don’t have to present anything till the middle of November, so if someone did want me to pass out something etc. I would be willing to do that and have the time to receive the materials if need be.

Thanks for reading.

Ughh.. I am forced to make a thread here before I can reply in the 80 page bitcoinica thread.  After reading the latest from Zhou Tong I have finally decided to get active here on the boards.

The stuff about getting 'points' to be able to redeem your money.. Makes it seem like somehow you must be an active member here to be recognized by bitcoinica for best withdrawals..

Also, I never got an EMail ever from bitcoinica that I can remember.  I also have only transferred money to bitcoinica through my own personal wallet and have no mt gox account.

I will post on the original thread when I can.

Does anyone know how many posts you need before you can reply to the real threads?

Thanks
