I'm going to start off by saying that I *know* a dedicated rig would be better than the solution I am trying to cobble together. Believe me, I would much rather have a couple of gridseeds or a titan or any of the other powerhouse rigs that are coming out. I can't afford one right now and with Bitcoin values rising and altcoins coming out of the woodwork every day, it isn't profitable to rent rigs anymore (if it ever even was to begin with!). It's my birthday today (go me!) and my husband has asked me what I want. I don't want flowers or candy or clothes or jewelry. I want MOAR HASHING POWER. My question is this - if I were to buy several of the 4 - 6 GHs USB ASIC miners, how would I "chain" them together so that they would all mine the same coin @ the same pool? I would need a USB hub, right? Could I just tell the husband to head on down to our local Best Buy and pick up any old hub or does it have to have specific features? Any advice would be appreciated Thanks in advance, Cynthia

I'm not beating around the bush here. I'm trying to get referrals - referrals who cloud mine. BUT I'm willing to give you something in return - 50% of whatever I make off of my referral bonus that I get when you purchase GHs. Paid weekly. For six months. Yes, you heard right and no, I'm not smoking anything. Complete details can be found here.

If you’re dealing with many different altcoins like I am, online exchanges can seem like a godsend. The ability to store multiple altcoins all in one place, setting up advance trades, easy and convenient buying and selling, and more. The exchanges court us with boasts about multiple levels of security, redundant backups, about fast, real-time trades, and more. “Trust us,” their websites say, “your data and your coins are safe with us – BUT if something happens, we aren’t responsible and you’re out of luck.”
I learned this hard lesson first hand today.
My oldest son is going to be graduating from high school in a few months. It’s a day we were never quite sure would come to pass. He’s bipolar and has ADHD and over the years has been arrested several times for violent behavior (sometimes at our insistence). He never cared about school, if he did well, if he did poorly. This is actually his second senior year, but the difference this year is that a fire got lit under that boy’s butt and he has been doing incredibly in his classes. No discipline issues, honor roll every quarter, you name it.
My husband and I told him several months ago that our graduation gift to him was going to be taking him and a friend to Atlanta this summer for DragonCon. My husband and I have gone several times, but this will be my son’s first time.
If you’ve ever gone to DragonCon, you know that it isn’t cheap. Hotel plus ticket prices plus meals and gas are going to run us close to $3,000.
Why am I telling you this? Well, after falling in love with digital currency, I decided to use it fund at least part of the trip.
I don’t have a lot of Bitcoin – in fact, I don’t even have HALF of a Bitcoin – but I do (or rather DID) have significant quantities of several Altcoins. What I was in the process of doing is setting up several faucets on my resource site and putting any advertising revenue toward the trip.
It seemed like a good idea – and was starting to work. In a week I had earned .02 Bitcoin through ad clicks alone. Not a lot, but it was encouraging.
Here’s where it all went sideways.
I was on Twitter this morning and saw a tweet from one of the exchanges that I use (MintPal) that they had fixed some login issues they were having. I hadn’t experienced any problems, but I logged in just to make sure everything was alright.
As I’m going through my account, I start getting alerts popping up that all of my coins were being sold – mind you, I hadn’t set up any sell orders. So I’m starting to panic. I didn’t understand what was happening – was I being hacked? Was it a residual issue left over from whatever they had done this morning? I had enabled 2FA (two-factor authentication) this morning, so my account should have been secure.
In less than a minute, all of my coins except for 2 or 3 obscure ones that weren’t worth anything, had been sold and the resulting Bitcoin withdrawn. I received the standard withdrawal confirmation email, which I did not click. I immediately notified support about what was going on and asked if they could please help me.
The end result? They can’t help me. Well, they could – their Terms of Service clearly states that compensation for losses is at their discretion – but they won’t. I got several emails from them explaining how it had to have been something on my end – someone else got my confirmation email and clicked the link, how what I was describing as having happened wasn’t possible, etc… I ran multiple scans on my end – on my system and on my server – to see if their ‘explanation’ held water. It did not. Everything is clean on my end.
All in all, I lost: 0.01431272 Litecoin 7994.8 CageCoin 20299.50074888 ContinuumCoin 60097.01527963 KarmaCoin 75050 MintCoin 1.25906734 MarsCoin 8.84510185 MazaCoin 10001.06 PandaCoin 78.36295105 PotCoin 1.01726935 SunCoin 10078.043398 TeslaCoin 1809.53836786 TakeiCoin
I know it’s only about .03 Bitcoin worth, but it had the potential to be much more toward my son’s graduation gift.
So what is the lesson to be learned from all of this?
DO NOT STORE YOUR COINS ON ANY EXCHANGE EVER.
I know it’s not as convenient, but download the wallet client for each coin you are trading in. Store them offline. Keep backups of your wallets on a flash drive. Make a backup of your backup.
If you want to sell some of your coins, transfer ONLY the amount you want to sell to an exchange and then sell it right away. After it sells, withdraw your earnings immediately. Don’t listen to the “you can trust us” rhetoric on the exchange websites. You CAN’T trust them because no system is 100% secure. It’s not necessarily their fault, it’s just the way things are.
Some lessons are best learned firsthand – this isn’t one of them. I hope you learn from my experience.

I am slowly working my way through the growing list of altcoins and adding them to my digital currency resource site. I'm setting up faucets whenever I have enough of a given coin to warrant doing so. I just added MazaCoin - and a MazaCoin faucet - to the site today: http://bitcoinmafia.com/other-altcoins/mazacoin/If you know of any other working MazaCoin faucets (or any giveaways) please let me know here or drop me an email. I think MazaCoin is an incredible concept and want to do whatever I can to help promote it. Cheers! Cynthia

Hi there...
I've been using Cryptsy since I got started in digital currency (a whopping 6 months ago) and for the *most* I've been okay with them. There have been some hiccups along the way but until now I haven't really considered switching.
I've read so much about them lately that is negative that it makes me nervous. Can anyone recommend an alternative exchange with a wide variety of alts?
Thanks,
Cynthia

I don't know if this is the right section to post in, so I hope the mods will forgive me if I am wrong I've recently relaunched my site after being hacked - it's a site devoted to spreading the word about Bitcoin and altcoins - general information about them, how to mine them, how to earn them for free, etc... It's small right now, but it is growing. If you have launched or are getting ready to launch an altcoin and would like for your coin to be added to BitcoinMafia.com (don't let the name fool you - nothing shady about it), please let me know. No charge - I just want to help the cause. Cheers! Cynthia

So I finally bit the bullet and bought my first USB Asic block erupter (yay!) but I'm having a devil of a time getting cgiminer to work with it. I downloaded the most recent version of cgiminer I could find (3.12.0 for Windows) and also downloaded and installed the USB to UART Bridge VCP drivers as well. I checked my miner and it is on COM4. After creating a shortcut to cgminer.exe, I changed the target to the following: C:\cgminer-3.12.0-windows\cgminer.exe -o stratum+tcp://servername.com:3055 -u worker.name -p password --icarus-options 115200:1:1 --icarus-timing 3.0=100 -S //./COM4 (on my shortcut, servername, worker.name, and password are replaced with their actual values, of course). The problem is that when I double click on my cgiminer shortcut on the desktop, the window opens up for a split second and then closes again. What is causing this? I'm not trying to mine SCRYPT coins with it, so that isn't the problem. Any help would be MOST appreciated Thanks, Cynthia

I just had a weird signature issue pop up. I've got well over the 10 post minimum and my signature was working fine, until it wasn't. The links weren't removed, the sig just *broke* - the code got FUBAR and when I went to fix it, the text box limits me to only 50 characters. TOTAL.
Any help is appreciated!

Other than posting in the Marketplace > Services section, are there any other legitimate resources for people like myself looking for work that pays in Bitcoin (or depending on the coin, in Altcoins)? Specifically, I'm looking for web design, web development, SEO, and content writing work.
Thanks!

Does anyone know what faucet script this site uses: http://tipofthefedora.com/I plan to set up a couple of faucets and am looking for script options. Thanks! Cynthia

I am looking to start up several faucets and am looking for software recommendations. Preferably PHP and mySQL based. I don't need anyone to set it up for me, I just need the software recommendations so I can take a look at them. I'm hoping for a mix of free and paid options.
Thanks!

Ever since I first discovered the wonders of cryptocurrencies (a whole six months ago...lol) I've loved the idea of these alt coins. Some are funny, some are odd, and some are very, very innovative. It got me thinking and here is what I came up with:
An alt coin where when you first set up your wallet, you select a charity from a list and every time you buy / sell / trade / purchase with the coin, a few bits of that transaction go to that charity. I could see something like VetCoin (to support military veterans), CharityCoin, PIFCoin (Pay It Forward), or something like that.
I don't have any idea how such a thing would even be developed but would love to be involved in the creation of it. I could build and promote the website (web dev and SEO are my 'day job'), contact charities to get them on board, etc...
Thoughts?

Hello everyone! I'm new to the board and thought I'd introduce myself. I first got interested in Bitcoin and other cryptos back around September / October but have never had the ready cash to buy Bitcoin outright. So I've been accumulating bits of BTC through faucets, small gigs, etc... I love the variety of alt currencies, even though not all of them are viable. I've gotten started CPU mining several alts and am loving it. In my "day job" I'm a web developer / designer / SEO person and content writer. I've been at it for over 16 years. Wow...that seems even longer written out At any rate, I just wanted to say hi. Looking forward to getting to know at least some of you and learning a LOT more about Bitcoin and the like. ~ Cynthia
