281  Other / Meta / Huge donations to bitcointalk on: July 28, 2020, 01:58:01 PM
This is the donation address of the forum: 17RTTUAiiPqUTKtEggJPec8RxLMi2n9EZ9

It right now has 1,7M$. If you check the recent transactions, there are people that send huge amounts. How is that happening?? Do admin(s) use it instead of donating?
282  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Why can't I compile the bitcoin source code? on: July 26, 2020, 07:28:01 AM
I'm trying to build the source code in windows 10 with visual studio 2017 but I'm so confused! I've made my searches here on this forum but nothing, only linux answers. They say that everything is written here: https://github.com/bitcoin/bitcoin/blob/master/build_msvc/README.md but I don't get it. It tells me that I have to download libraries, how exactly?? Because I can't find the instructions in build-windows.md

Also, do I have to do one of these or all of them?

When I try to compile in visual studio I get these errors:

283  Other / Meta / Thinking of a bitcointalk app. on: July 25, 2020, 10:53:49 AM
I'm thinking of making an app of this forum. So it can be user friendly on mobile devices. Are you interested?

There is that too: https://smfmobileapp.com but it's a little pricy.
284  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Do we know what's the most spent bitcoin? on: July 25, 2020, 10:39:23 AM
All bitcoins start from a coinbase transaction. When the miner spends those bitcoins, he will create an output. Many many outputs are getting created that look like a merkle tree. Do we know what coinbase has the biggest merkle tree?

I also had heard that in order to spend a bitcoin, the coinbase transaction of it must have at least 120 confirmations. Why that?
285  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Why do hackers steal huge amounts of bitcoins? on: July 25, 2020, 08:28:02 AM
I was reading about Cashaa, that was hacked and 336BTC were stolen. But the hacker can't move them right? He will leave footprints. So why should hackers steal them since they can be found? For example if they want to convert them to fiat.

The only way I think you could get by from this felony is to keep them on very long term. So long that it may be forgotten. But still, it may.
286  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / The whole IP thing on: July 24, 2020, 11:16:40 PM
Bitcoin started with 2 different ways to send funds. By address or by IP.

By address you simply send the information to many nodes that will send the information to others until all of them have received it. On the other hand, by sending funds with ip address I don't understand what information will be sent to nodes. Satoshi said that in order to send with ip, the ip owner must be online. So I thought that if he is online then he could simply choose the receiving address after you click "send".

Did this functionality get disabled due to the creation of wallets? People were using bitcoin core at that time, and they were all of them nodes. When wallets came out, you couldn't give your ip, because you were not a node.
287  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Nicehash - Device error on: July 23, 2020, 08:02:38 AM
Hi I'm new at mining and as a start I downloaded nicehash on my laptop just for testing.

This is what I'm getting when I click to start:

Do you know what's the problem? I'm searching it here on this forum but I can't find anything similar... I have 1 CPU and 0 GPU.
288  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Bitcoin sites - Alexa ranking on: July 22, 2020, 10:07:13 PM
I'm suprised that the first place isn't bitcoin.org neither bitcoin.com, but blockchain.com:
https://www.alexa.com/siteinfo/blockchain.com

Blockchain.com ranks #3641 in the global internet engagement.

Others:
btc.com (#9837)
bitcoin.org (#9942)
bitcoin.com (#11033)
bitcointalk.org (#14174)
blockchair.com (#14438)
bitcoin.it (#44283)
289  Local / Mining Discussion (Ελληνικά) / Ερώτηση για power consumption on: July 22, 2020, 09:58:39 PM
https://www.cryptocompare.com/mining/calculator/btc?HashingPower=40&HashingUnit=MH%2Fs&PowerConsumption=1500&CostPerkWh=0.213&MiningPoolFee=1

Εδώ έχω βάλει να υπολογίσω το profitability μου αν κάνω mine. Στο Cost per kWh βάζω 0.213$ (έτσι λέει εδώ για τη ΔΕΗ)

Στο power consumption όμως τι ακριβώς βάζω; Έχει διαφορά στην Ελλάδα από τις άλλες χώρες;
290  Other / Meta / This member has weird stats. on: July 20, 2020, 09:52:24 PM
BobLawblaw

How can a member have this posts-merits rate? I don't make any sense with bpip.org, neither with his profile page. How does he have so many merits with do few posts?
291  Other / Off-topic / Malicious email question on: July 20, 2020, 09:45:15 PM
In my country a hacker hacked someone's bank account and withdraw all the money. He sent a phishing email to him and he clicked it. Just a link. Nothing else. No forms.

Can he really do anything by visiting a URL? Even if it's a blacklisted link. What's the worst thing that can happen?

Can a program run into your computer by simply clicking a link?
292  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Paranoid questions about creating addresses on: July 20, 2020, 02:35:46 PM
I'm using electrum. I want to create hundreds of addresses, but because I'm a little paranoid I don't know how I will do it safely. I have already generated addresses but I'm thinking for buying bitcoins on the long-term.

1) Why does verification of electrum proves electrum won't generate private keys that may be already known? Like a hacker put them so he can steal the coins later. It doesn't require internet connection. The private keys are simply not random. I know that it is open source, but I don't get how with verification, I have to be 101% sure that I'm safe.

2) If they write the SHA256 of the exe on electrum.org and I test it that it has the same SHA256 result, I have the clear program right? No hackers could face that step?

3) Can I deside my randomness' fate? Can I put the ones and zeros by myself somehow? Do you have any scripts on github so I can check the code?

4) Can I somehow generate thousands of different addresses on electrum? (And export them in csv). I see that it only generates 10-15 by default.
293  Other / Off-topic / How do I recover a replaced file on windows 7? on: July 20, 2020, 10:23:14 AM
Hi, I had a file called "ap.js" and I replaced it with another file called "ap.js". Is there any way to get the old file back?
294  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Can 1 private key create 2 addresses? on: July 20, 2020, 09:20:34 AM
One legacy and one segwit. Can it?
295  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Do we need bitcoin? on: July 20, 2020, 06:22:55 AM
Bitcoin is a currency started by developers that were interested in the idea of sending online payment without a central authority that would check the accounts. The idea and the whole thing (with Satoshi Nakamoto, blockchain technology etc) inspired many people to use it. And some of them, worked on it. Due to this big adoption and fixed supply, bitcoin went to moon. At least for a while, but it did. And right now it is high as well.

Well, do we need it? Because, I can see that people use it only as an investment or as a money laundering tool. Black markets rebornt after the creation of bitcoin. I tried to convince someone to use it, but you know what? I couldn't. Why? Well, honest people don't afraid the central authority, in addition with the dishonest ones. Those who want something that is illegal, cannot do that. So they use bitcoin.

Governments don't want it and they wish they could prevent it, because they cannot track you easily, they cannot tax you, they ..., they ..., they...
Governments like censorship, and there is 0% censorship on bitcoin.

I like bitcoin, a lot. But I don't think that this world needs it. Except if they want to hide something. Prove me wrong.

What's the solution?
297  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Will mining pools exist after 2100? on: July 15, 2020, 08:15:48 PM
On mining pools all miners get rewarded with the analogous CPU they have used.

I don't know exactly how many satoshis will be generated on every block after 2100 but I know they will be very few. Imagine splitting 1 satoshi. How? Will the bitcoin community create the nakamotos?

1 satoshi = 1000 nakamotos for example. Too dumb question, tho, since we can't know a damn thing about that era. Some say that life will end after 2100 due to loss of natural supplies.
298  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / What if you knew Huobi's private key? on: July 15, 2020, 08:06:34 PM
Let's assume that you guess the correct private key of Huobi's cold wallet. What would you do?

35hK24tcLEWcgNA4JxpvbkNkoAcDGqQPsP right now has 255,502BTC

If you steal them, there are many bad cases. First of all (I'm not sure), they may find your IP address that you did that. If you send an information of 255kBTC the node that will receive it (if you use a wallet) will know your IP address. It's a matter of time to find you. (if you're unlucky too)
If you are a node, the first node(s) that will receive it will know you're the guy.

The other bad case is that bitcoin price will drop DRAMATICALLY! Imagine yourself reading the news that some hackers stole 255kBTC, wouldn't you be a bit afraid? Especially the other rich addresses, that knew how much Huobi was protecting it. We would forget the possible $20k of 2021.

So even 1 satoshi or 255kBTC would make you a thief that could end up in a difficult situation.

On the other hand, you only live once, hah?
299  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Regnet - Don't blocks get mined every 10 minutes? on: July 14, 2020, 07:23:46 PM
How can I enable this option on regtest? Right now if I want to mine 10000 blocks, I can do it within a minute. But I want to try being Satoshi. That mined the first blocks with 10 minutes difference on average.
300  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / How can I mine transactions in regtest mode? on: July 14, 2020, 06:49:00 PM
I can mine as many blocks as I want. The problem is that when I make a transaction it remains unconfirmed, because I haven't found any way to add transactions to a block.
