1  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Biggest cryptocurrency hacks in 2024 on: January 02, 2025, 01:54:50 AM
Crypto hacks exploits in 2024.
  • DMM Bitcoin: $300M.
  • WazirX: $230M.
  • Munchabbles: $62M.
  • Dai whale exploit: $55M.
  • Radiant Capital: $51M.
  • BingX: $43M.
  • Penpie: $27M.
  • UwU Lend: $20M.
  • Sonne Finance: $20M.
  • M2 exchange: $14M.

DMM Bitcoin, a Centralized Exchange, has a biggest crypto hack in 2024, with total value of hack is $300M. It's a hack on private keys.

WazirX, another Centralized Exchange, with a second biggest crypto hack in the last year, total value is $230M. The Lazarus hacker group from North Korea did it.

Munchables, a Gaming project: It's $62M hack through a hole in smart contract. You can see danger of smart contract!

Dai Whale exploit: It's a personal whale as a victim of phishing attack.

Radiant Capital, a Lending project: It was attacked multiple times, and total loss is about $51M.

Bing X, another Centralized Exchange: a hack of $43M from hot wallets.

Penpie, a Yield Farming project: $27M hack by exploitation on reentrancy hole.

UwU Lending, another Lending project: a hack on Oracle flaw.

Sonne Finance, a third Lending project in this list: $20M through smart contract hole.

The last one is M2 Exchange, another Centralized Exchange, and the fourth CEX in this list, with $14M hack on hot wallets.

Again you can see danger of storing your fund on Centralized platforms like Exchanges.

2  Economy / Economics / Trend in digital asset growth and usage - rapid growth from very low levels on: December 07, 2024, 04:04:58 PM
The full presentation that is from the USA. Department of Treasury.
https://home.treasury.gov/system/files/221/TBACCharge2Q42024.pdf

There are some key questions in the presentation.
Quote
Charge:

A. Please comment on the effects of the growth in digital assets on the Treasury market
B. Please summarize existing efforts at using blockchain technology or tokenization for Treasury
market related applications
C. How might blockchain technology be used to innovate or improve on Treasury market
operations?
D. What are the potential benefits and costs of tokenization of Treasuries?
E. What effects might these trends have on recommended Treasury issuance or the health of the
Treasury secondary market?
This presentation from the USA. Department of Treasury shows that they actually changed their mind on this market. It's no longer a small market and like a scam market like they tried to see it like this and attacked it with this reason years ago.

Now they admitted the growth of digital assets and this market, then they are going to figure out what benefits from Blockchain technology, this market, tokenization of treasuries and more.

It's one of game changers for Bitcoin market.
3  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Trump accepts Lightning Network for donation of his campaign in Bitcoin on: June 03, 2024, 02:31:07 AM
It is the first time ever a President nominee in the USA accepts Bitcoin donation for his campaign by Bitcoin Lightning Network.

Trump Becomes First President To Accept Bitcoin Lightning Payments For Campaign Donations.

The team of Trump's campaign accept it by partnering with Opennode. I don't judge anything about Trump and his team but I see he is actually a creative man and proved it through his life and business career as well as political career recent years. He doesn't refuse to accept anything, even it is very new, if it can potentially helps him to get benefit.

4  Other / Politics & Society / Banks are used for criminals, will governments ban banks? on: June 01, 2024, 09:51:52 AM
The most common reason governments say when they announce to ban or sanction anything in blockchain and cryptocurrency is "It is used for criminals".

See what banks are used for?
For criminals.
And how much some parent companies of banks had to pay for penalty?

https://violationtracker.goodjobsfirst.org/prog.php?major_industry_sum=financial+services

Quote
Violation Tracker Industry Summary Page

Industry: financial services
Penalty Total since 2000: $388,802,802,308
Number of Records: 7,734

Note: The totals include only those entries matched to a parent company. The industry designation is the primary one for the parent's operations overall. The totals are adjusted to account for the fact that each parent's entries may include both agency records and settlement announcements for the same case; or else a penalty covering multiple locations may be listed in the individual records for each of the facilities. They are also adjusted to reflect cases in which federal and state or local agencies cooperated and issued separate announcements of the outcome. Duplicate or overlapping penalty amounts are marked with an asterisk in the individual records list below.

The total paid $ for penalty is $388.8B, it's not small.

The discussion can start with

Why governments don't ban banks even banks are used for criminals?
Why governments don't ban knife, gun, email producers/ companies because they are used for criminals?
5  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Bitcoin can save you against inflation if you invest in & hold it some years on: May 31, 2024, 05:55:57 AM

Price of a house in the USA, I don't know how accurate this graphic is.

The USA. national debt is $34T today and it was only about $10T in 2023. The national debt increases 300% within one year, it's amazing 'success' from government and central bank in the country. It won't stop there because the debt ceiling will be raised again next year.
https://fiscaldata.treasury.gov/americas-finance-guide/national-debt/

You can try to save your money from your jobs in bitcoins and prepare for your wealth and retirement earlier than if you work days by days without bitcoin in your savings and investment portfolio.
6  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Altcoin season, will it come next months? on: May 21, 2024, 01:08:54 AM

Bitcoin eventually stopped it boring and uncertain time after about more than 10 weeks of correction. Now it starts to rise sharply and will retest its all time high again.

Ethereum has a big pump today too.

If you see the graphics above is insightful and contains fact in this market, Bitcoin and Ethereum already shown their roles and next months will be for an altcoin season.

It's not an altcoin season yet but you can buy altcoins now and wait for altcoin season.

7  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Do you prepare for a Bitcoin bull run? on: October 22, 2023, 10:04:39 AM
It's about 185 more days till a 2024 Bitcoin halving.

Bitcoin Block Reward Halving Countdown gives you an estimation and it is not completely correct but you can use its estimated date for the halving. It's not important to know when is a halving date because knowing the halving block is enough.

It will happen at the block 840000.

Quote
Past halving event dates

The first halving event occurred on the 28th of November, 2012 (UTC) at block height 210,000
The second halving event occurred on the 9th of July, 2016 (UTC) at block height 420,000
The third halving event occurred on the 11th of May, 2020 (UTC) at block height 630,000

A chart that breaks down Bitcoin history price to past halving cycles (4-year cycles).
I don't mind about reasons for a next bull run because market will have many 'reasons' to rise during a big bull run with parabolic curve but I quote some idea in the tweet.
Quote
#Bitcoin is going to $100k here is why -

- Honda now accepts Bitcoin & Crypto Payments
- Elon Musk calls fiat currencies a S-C-A-M
- Tesla reveals none of its $312 Million Bitcoin was sold in Q3 2023.
- Ferrari now accepts Crypto payments for its Car
- Hong Kong officially launches its first Bitcoin  & Crypto trading platform.
- Less than 5% of the global population is invested in Crypto (we are soo early)
- Japan's largest investment bank Nomura launches Bitcoin fund for institutional investors
- Coinbase receives regulatory approval to offer perpetual futures to international retail customers
- Coinbase receives full operating License in Singapore
- There are Only 21 Million Bitcoins
- Bitcoin Halving in less than 180 days
- Bitcoin Supply Shock Incoming
- Bitcoin Bears still waiting for $12k

The funny idea is "Bitcoin Bears still waiting for $12k". I don't wait for that price but if you knew the March 2020 crash, will $12k be seen in 2024 before a halving with some bad news to shock the market?

Don't exclude that risk and don't use leverage to Long Bitcoin because if you use leverage, open a Long position, you will be forced liquidated in such crash.

Will this time be different when Bitcoin broke $30,000 resistance? Let's see.

That Bitcoin Bull wants to see a big bull run as soon as possible but I don't expect too early bull run this year. He even tried to borrow something in textbook (Bump & Run Reversal Bottom pattern) to convince us that a bull run is very closely to start.
.

Before a 2024 halving, you must make your preparation for it.

Checking your wallet. Do you still have access to your wallet?
Making some wallet backups.
Storing backups safely.
Be ready for a 2024 and 2025 bull run with usable wallets.

If you are a witness in a big bull run but you lose access to your wallets, it's damn terrible.
8  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Why creating Vanity Segwit address is easier than Legacy address? on: July 05, 2023, 04:15:50 AM
I did not know about the difference and I didn't know about the math behind it but o_e_l_e_o  and ETFbitcoin forced me to learn.

It is impossible to create a Vanity address with too many customized characters like more than 8. It is discussed in Vanity address (Mastering Bitcoin book)
This is only for legacy addresses, and does not hold true for segwit addresses. I can generate an 8 character custom segwit address in around 3 minutes.

That's true when we're talking about legacy address, i used 9 customized characters only as example. Although 9 customized character on legacy address is still possible with few high end GPU in few months.

I looked at https://github.com/JeanLucPons/VanitySearch and found three examples for 3 address types: 1, 3, and bc1q.
I saw the code has figures for difficulty. Are they difficulty when creating that Vanity address?

Legacy: 1
Nested Segwit: 3
Native Segwit: bc1q

Difficulty for Legacy and Nested Segwit is both 15318045009, difficulty for Native Segwit is 1073741824.
Difference is 15318045009 / 1073741824  = 14.26604112.

Does it mean creating Vanity Legacy and Nested Segwit address is 14.26 times harder than Vanity Native Segwit address? And why?

9  Economy / Economics / CBDCs & their technical abilities for global transacactions on: February 21, 2023, 05:41:26 AM
Many countries have research, development and launch pilots for their CBDCs. In 2023, we will have Japanese and Russian central banks. Russia goes ahead of all by not only launching pilot of their digital Yen for testing (like on testnet) but they go with real pilot on retail purchasers and their transactions.

Many countries announce their interests in CBDCs and plans to launch theirs.
https://cbdctracker.org/

Japan Will Launch Pilot for Issuing Digital Yen in April
Bank of Russia to Pilot CBDC in April. Digital ruble payments will be launched for retail purchases and peer-to-peer transactions

I don't know what are plans of governments and central banks for CBDCs and how different CBDCs will be able to connect with each other for transactions in future.

- Will we simple download applications of CBDCs and have our banks on our devices without need to go to central banks and register our accounts there?
I guess they will force their citizens to register accounts, KYC at bank office before are able to use CBDCs on applications.

- How those CBDCs from different nations will be able to connect with each other in dual interactions or global interactions?
In fiat currencies, we have systems like SWIFT, CIPS to connect different central banks.

With CBDCs, what blockchain will they run on?
If each CBDC runs on an unique blockchain, will it be very difficult to use them for global transactions cross countries.

To solve this, will central banks make bridges, CBDC bridges for cross countries, cross central bank transactions by CBDCs?

Cryptocurrency bridges are weak and vulnerable to hacks. Will CBDC bridges be better in security?

10  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / AXS and SLP. Why the price of SLP is falling but AXS is rising? on: October 10, 2021, 10:54:39 AM
Axie Infinity is a very hot coin in NFT game and it grows from less than $1 to $150. SLP is a part of Axie Infinity ecosystem but price of SLP is falling.

Explained: Axie Infinity SLP and AXS tokens.
Because the SLP will be created more if the ecosystem of Axie Infinity has more players. If the Axie Infinity team take care of investors who buy SLP, they need to have plan to reduce the inflation of SLP.

If the team don't make changes with SLP release rate, the value of this token will hardly to rise.

Any thoughts about SLP everybody?

11  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Trends for altcoins in September on: August 30, 2021, 02:04:58 PM
I think the market will have a few months for altcoins or in September

I am thinking of some trends
- NFT
- Top altcoins
- Polkadot ecosystem
- Solana

What altcoin trend do you think will be the best in September?

I tend to choose Polkadot.
12  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Masari tries to break out after 4 months since April on: August 16, 2021, 02:50:38 PM
Four months are not long in our life but in crypto it is long if we buy a coin, see it drops and side way. It is the most boring experience.

Masari is trying to break out. In April, it suddenly took off to more than $0.2 and bottomed $0.03 in early of August.

Do you think it will be able to break out the resistance and double its price to the next resistance $0.11?
13  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Bitcoin Future is still bullish. on: January 26, 2021, 01:26:18 PM
The Week On-Chain (Week 4, 2021) from Glassnode.
Adjusted SOPR: unlikely to fall to lower levels.
Net Unrealized profit/loss: does not top yet.
Bitcoin changing hands: good impulse rate.
BTC whales (>= 1k BTC): rapid increase.

The article gives me idea that the correction of BTC is to help it rising more. The article can be used for investors who don't care much about short volatility of the market, not traders.

14  Other / Meta / Off-topic. Are posts in off-topic counted to activity? on: December 08, 2020, 04:09:50 AM
Offtopic has many shit posters and I don't know how they make posts in off-topic. Do they get anything from posts in off-topic?

Topics in offtopic can be helpful but very scarce to see them. No value topics in offtopic can a topic for spammers. I don't know moderators accept reports to lock those topics if I submit my reports. If a topic is no value at birth and after a while, is it good to lock it forever?

Please help and if moderators will lock it with my reports, I will make report if I see them.

Thank you for your answers. I got it. Lock the topic now.
15  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Bitcoin.com and its verify message for bitcoin. Is it trusted? on: December 05, 2020, 06:56:58 AM
The site bitcoin.com is a website was built by a scam team (Bitcoin Cash). They tried to scam investors by claiming they are real bitcoin. 3 years since 2017, they are still using the bitcoin.com domain to promote their scam Bitcoin Cash. If they are honestly and seriously with their project, they would move to a domain as bitcoincash.com.

I only found they have a tool to verify bitcoin message. Should I use their tool to verify bitcoin message? Are they set up any traps on their site and with that tool?

Til today, they are trying to replace Bitcoin by Bitcoin Cash. The main color is Green and it is for Bitcoin Cash, not for Bitcoin.

I am very surprised because I can not find a tool to verify Bitcoin Cash message on their website Huh

In the box for Bitcoin address * they put the grey message
Quote
Enter Bitcoin Cash (BCH) or Bitcoin (BTC) address

I hate to say my feeling but they are shady with their tool and their message, Bitcoin Cash is appeared first before Bitcoin.
16  Economy / Scam Accusations / Another malicious browser extension is advertised on Google search on: December 05, 2020, 05:29:29 AM
In crypto, phishing attempts are around us every day and Google has very bad reputation on the way they sell their advertisements and search engine for projects. They don't do investigation or do it very bad and no matter how they do that, at the ends they allow many scam projects, phishing sites appear on the top of Google search results.

The latest attack on Metamask with malicious phishing web browser is one of that. This one can cause serious losses for crypto investors especially in the days people are still being crazy with DeFi tokens. Metamask is one of most common gates to join DeFi space.

When I am writing this topic, Google still has not shut it down. You can check and see that malicious extension at the top of search result at the Ad area.

The official site of MetaMask is: https://metamask.io/

17  Economy / Trading Discussion / Difference between Buy/ Sell, Long/Short, Bid/Ask on: November 29, 2020, 09:35:19 AM
Some people don't understand what is Buy/ Sell, Long/ Short, Bid/Ask and don't know difference between them. They use those terms very careless and arbitrarily.

Important to remind that those terms are used in pairs, you can not use Buy and Short, Sell and Long for example. It is weird and not correct.

Buy/ Sell is used for real possesions. When you buy or sell, you buy or sell (cash out) with your real assets, real money.

Long/ Short is used for unreal possesions (or no possesion at all). You don't own the asset you Long or Short. You borrow it from other customers or from exchanges. With Long and Short, you have to pay fees for borrowing assets. If you borrow from customer A, and that contract expires after 1 day, you will have to borrow another loan from another customer (B, example). Exchange automatically do the process for you but it is like that. Your loan will only be closed if you close your positions (Long or Short).
Long and Short positions need to be closed as soon as possible. They are different than Buy and Sell.

Bid/ Ask relates to spread on the market and please see the document for more explanation. On some exchanges, operators use Bid/ Ask instead of Buy/ Sell.

Long Position vs. Short Position: What's the Difference?

19  Economy / Speculation / 2013, 2017 bubbles and 2020 bull run on: November 25, 2020, 02:20:00 AM
In 2017, people talked about 2013 bubble, said about adoption, difference.
Bitcoin’s Present Bubble Might Actually be the Beginning of Mainstream Adoption

In 2020, peopled talked about 2017 bubble, said it is different. Crypto Long & Short: 4 Metrics That Show How the Current Bitcoin Rally Is Different From 2017

I see 2 opinions in 2017 article that makes me hiccups.
- Mass adoption
- This isn’t 2013 anymore

The article in 2020 has 2 charts for Bitcoin and Ethereum returns in 2 years and they are interesting charts but I don't agree with the article that bitcoin has more space to run up because of the past pattern and the Ethereum rise this year. Bitcoin bull run is from itself and Ethereum does not contribute to bitcoin bull run.
20  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Liquidity on crypto exchanges are falling on: November 24, 2020, 03:37:57 AM
In the On-chain week 47 report, Glassnode reported BTC Exchange Liquidity Continues on its Downward Trajectory

The report impressed me that liquidity is continuously falling in this year, since the beginning. Does it come from institutional investments this year? They are whales, they are institutes and they do long term investment. After they bought bitcoin, they hold it and it causes drops in liquidity on exchanges. They bought more bitcoin than total bitcoin were mined by miners and more non-institutional whales decided to hold their bitcoin for Moon.

Quote
The number of BTC on exchanges has been on a near-continuous downward trend since the beginning of 2020, dropping by nearly 20% throughout the year. Since October, the withdrawal of bitcoin from exchanges has become even more rapid as BTC's price has increased more steeply.
