What will this do to the price? They are 3 hours behind on new blocks, and their wallet service is giving very interesting errors. I tried to withdraw from my blockchain.info wallet and the balance didn't decrease.

What if Mt Gox proved that their cold storage(with 700k+ coins) was real and could not be recovered at all? What if Satoshi came down from the heavens and used his large reserve of bitcoins to help repay most of the bitcoins lost by Mt Gox?

I noticed that in times of crash, there are no optimists around preaching "oh no! bitcoin will never go below 600-700! it will be $5000 next month!". They must have bolted off with their cash-out with their tail between their legs.

What happened to mt gox and bitcoin sounds more like virtual bank robbery; comparable to hijacking an armored truck of gold and replacing it with fake gold.

What effect will that have on the bitcoin economy?

I sense a crash coming. Share your floor predictions.

The thing about bitcoin is that it's easier to truely "wire" currency, compared to old fashioned bank wire (which will go extinct soon).

If Bitcoin was adopted by a country as an official currency, could the Bitcoin network handle it?

Don't you ever step back and look at the big picture? We are putting our faith into a complex mathematical equation, nothing but encryption to guarantee a transaction among liquid currencies. So far the algorithms within Bitcoin are holding up while guarantees/shares/bitcoins, equal to billions of dollars, are floating around in the ledger. Could you imagine what would happen if someone found a way to crack the encryption and forge bitcoins? It would be catastrophic.
Instead of putting our faith in gold, we are putting our faith in algorithms.
This worries me because remember Internet Protocol version 4? We thought the algorithms within IPV4 would hold up for the future when in fact it did not and we ended up developing a bunch of hacks like NAT so that the internet could handle more than 4 billion hosts.

I've been around during the last 3 bubble bursts. Seeing the current state of the bitcoin economy today, it looks like the bubble is about to burst, probably around $2k is when it seems ridiculous and then everybody starts to sell off in the next couple weeks. Some of you may not be able to smell the smoke, but I do.

I've been waiting for this day for a long time. What will be the lowest bitcoin price(nearest dollar) and what will be the closing price(nearest dollar) 2 days after the drop?
Winners get a piece of a $10 pot.
I predict $25 with a final price of $30.

We need a currency named after Ron Paul.

Any ideas what this could do to bitcoin?

Bitcoin is over, it's stretched out like a 60 year old hooker. We can no longer mine a currency with flaws like network inefficiencies and security. We can start a new bitcoin network, migrate to namecoin or wait for the next iteration of Bitcoin. To save this market is like trying to put a cloud inside a cup.

I sold all my bitcoins when it was $13. I made a profit of $600 but now it's not economical to mine anymore. I am selling all of my equipment(or refunding) for the amount I placed into the investment. This was a good run but bitcoin is falling apart on many fronts. I will keep 67btc in my wallet for now but im done.

The network lost 5 terahashes. Does anyone know the negative consequences of a big power loss like that?

All cards are tightly packed together with no extensions inside an Antec 1200. A scythe 135cfm fan is blowing directly onto the video cards. I'd also like to mention that it's also quiet, you can place it in another room without hearing it in the next. I know I can overclock these to get 1GH by shoving fanspeeds up higher, but how much higher can they run before wearing down the fans?

I am very pleased and surprised that my Sapphire HD 5830 is staying at a constant 68c with core at 1000 and memory at 300 with no voltage mod. Does anyone know the maximum core clock and voltage that this card can handle?
