41  Other / Off-topic / the "new" introduction thread on: April 13, 2013, 10:11:40 PM
alright, i know people want to remain anon.
make up a new account whatever.

how bout we do a new round of intros
goldman sachs traders. or whatever investment firm you represent that JUST heard about bitcoins and are trying to get in. trying to be cool.
i bet that there is at least 1 trader from most banks on here.
who here is from russia?
how about who is paul krugman on the board?
who the fuck is the ddoser?
sup winklevoss twins ( who now probably own 3% of all bitcoins)
42  Economy / Economics / are the prices in a permanent loop? on: April 12, 2013, 07:16:16 PM
now that every single day trader in the world has heard of bitcoins
all their investors and hnw individuals have called their brokers
are the prices going to be in a permanent cycle of going up and down?

think about this way.. these traders don't care if this succeeds or fails . they care about returns.
drive the price up to double. sell.
causes the prices to go down. when it goes down to half buy back up to make confidence go up.
goes up and sell to make confidence go down.
doing this over and over and they don't have to wait for the actual value of a bitcoin to go up they can just make 100000% percent by pushing the prices around daily
43  Economy / Speculation / stop panic, hold, and buy 1 btc on: April 12, 2013, 04:35:54 PM
if we don't make it hold just for stability sake then this is the end.
stop panicking and thinking about short term profits.
just start buying 1 / .5 bitcoin.
the more we have many individuals willing to buy just a bit the better it will be for everyone.
get your short term "profits" out of your mind
44  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / would this work to keep online accounts from being hacked on: April 08, 2013, 12:24:34 AM
has this been tried.
keep in mind i am not a technical person at all.
also, i'm just guessing and not sure if it has been discussed before.
would it be possible for an "online" wallet to do this

when you create an account-
it will give you a full key (public and private)

you must write down the last 4 of your public key and the last 4 of your private key.
a lot like the modern day pin
then the site DELETES (using industry standards) the last 4 of those account numbers
then when you login in order to send anything you would need to input the 4/4 digits that the site will add
and use to authenticate. that way there will never be a brute force way of sending out any bitcoins unless one knows the digits to the addresses.

does that even make sense
45  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / bitcoin donation fund idea on: April 07, 2013, 01:45:04 AM
just an idea

i have no interest in being in charge of this so perhaps find someone who will want to organize that can be trusted

how about they set up an account for donations

what will these donations be used for

some ideas include giving all of it to an accredited institution of higher learning (university) that's first to be interested in accepting this donation under the terms of not being able to "cash out" for a minimum of a year
46  Bitcoin / Legal / what to do when you pass away on: April 05, 2013, 08:09:13 AM
ya.. what a bummer..
not sure which category to post this.

i got extremely sick, followed by a panic attack early.
i scambled to leave a usb with instructions for my SO as to what to do if i die and the passwords
i'm still alive thank god but it raises serious questions about how to create succesorship.
usually when you die either your relatives or the gov claims your assets
what about in this situation.. how do you trust someone with your keys/passwords so all the bitcoins saved up don't become wasted when you are no longer alive.

serious question.. do you leave cold wallet in safety deposit box.. and let them know?
47  Economy / Speculation / bitcoin-opalypse on: April 03, 2013, 04:47:01 AM
so..
thought long and hard about what would really screw things up..
1) mtgox issues.. if this happens prices will drop 90%+
2) BFL doesn't deliver and a scam would also cause prices to go down a bit

that's all i can think of.. any other doomsday ideas?
