1  Economy / Games and rounds / BitGift Chain on: April 24, 2015, 07:03:14 AM
Hello community! Let's play a game.

I have a question. Anyone who can answer it sufficiently will get 5mBTC via BitBays BitGift function. Whoever I think answers the question best I'll notify here.

The winner (you) can take your BitGift which will be sent via PM or you can keep the chain going by foregoing the BitGift and posing your own question. Whoever you think answers your question best you can mention here, and they will have the same choice: take the 5mBTC or ask a question. And so on.

Time limit from when a question is asked to when a winner is chosen: 48 hours. If no one is chosen by the asker by this time I will start a new chain with a new BitGift.

How do BitGifts work? Here are 5 x 5mBTC of them for you to try out (limit 1 per person.)

Question 1
What is the Bitcoin ecosystem like in South America? BitBays is interested in South America next so we're trying to get a feel for the area. Tell me something interesting.
2  Economy / Service Discussion / DDoS Attack on BitBays Exchange (resolved in 30 minutes) on: March 31, 2015, 06:01:09 AM
On March 30 the BitBays bitcoin exchange received an e-mail from DD4BC Team threatening a DDoS attack if they were not paid 2 BTC. BitBays did not respond to their e-mail, and on March 30 and 31 received a large DDoS and CC attack originating from Holland.

BitBays' servers received a short interruption of service, but all information and client assets remained unaffected. After the attack BitBays immediately switched to Cloudflare's anti-DDoS service and changed IP addresses. Within 30 minutes BitBays' servers were back up and running normally.

The BitBays platform has been in development for over half a year, specifically to perfect security measures to guarantee the integrity of client information and assets. Except for short service interruptions we have had a flawless record to this day.

Also, due to switching IP numbers BitBays prices are temporarily not showing on some websites such as BTCkan.com. This issue will be resolved shortly.

If anyone has any information on these attackers please contact support@bitbays.com Thank you for your support.

4  Bitcoin / Press / 2013-05-17 China CCTV 13 - Bitcoin on: May 17, 2013, 12:45:32 PM
JUST saw this in Mainland China 8:30PM on CCTV 13 news. The tone of the government sponsored media was neutral/positive.

Anyone got a link to this?
5  Economy / Economics / Gold Down - Implications for BTC? on: April 15, 2013, 01:19:41 PM
http://www.reuters.com/article/2013/04/15/us-markets-precious-idUSBRE93E0FI20130415

Does this mean people are switching back into fiat currencies, or other stores of value such as land, other precious metals, even BTC?
6  Other / Off-topic / Thank You on: April 15, 2013, 12:31:15 PM
Thank you whoever sent me those Bitcoins as a tip/donation. After a long hiatus since 2011 I really feel like I am getting into the economy/community, even with just the few new coins I have to my name  Smiley
7  Economy / Trading Discussion / Best Non-Mining Way of Acquiring BTC? on: April 15, 2013, 11:51:49 AM
I've been keeping my eye on Bitcoin for a while. I won't be paying for BTC at current rates, or investing in a mining rig (unless it's down the road and paid for with BTC.) I was recently struck by the reality of the limit of the number of Bitcoins. I knew this from day 1, but it recently hit me. Which has led me to the question, what is the best way to make coins without mining or purchasing?

It seems my only shot is clicking away on "free BTC" websites. I value my time and if I waste it in such a way I may as well dump real money into BTC.

As I have started studying Cryptology (Go Coursera!) I am realizing more and more, the necessity of an (pseudo)anonymous cryptocurrency in the modern world. Bitcoins aren't going anywhere, and their number is limited. I want to be apart of the new economy.

Thoughts?

PS I couldn't think of the ideal forum. I figured marketplace may be the closest thing to my topic.

I think my first goal will be to get 75, or whatever BTC it will take to get an ASIC, even if the difficulty is exponentially higher than now I will at least be guaranteed SOME constant stream of coins so I could passively stay involved in the economy/community.
8  Economy / Services / American Fluent in Chinese, Living in Beijing - Contracting in BTC on: July 18, 2012, 09:07:59 AM
My old interest in BTC has been rekindled and I am looking to get involved in the movement and of course that reasonable self-interest profit motive.

I'm an American who's been living in China for 2 ½ years, and am fluent in Mandarin (汉语水平考试六级 certified) [highest level]

I have a business background and will be teaching business courses to undergraduates at a university in Beijing this Fall. I also run my own English business. If anyone needs a contact here to get stuff done (look into sourcing, negotiating prices, visiting factories, etc.) let me know. We can negotiate payment in BTC. I am open to BTC, ASIC/FGPA, and totally non-BTC related opportunities.

If you want more info and would like to discuss an opportunity, shoot me a PM. I just got done vacationing and now I have a week of rest (that never seems to happen on my vacations  Grin) then I will be flying back to Beijng.

9  Other / Politics & Society / Solution to the Debt Ceiling on: July 05, 2011, 07:16:03 AM
I sent this to Barack Obama's e-mail. After being amazed by my plan he forwarded it to our friend Tim (Geithner) who is now looking like he may stick around a few more years with this brilliant new theory on debt. No promises folks, but I wanted to get a wide cross section of the American public to see their reaction to our my plan. Unfortunately, many Americans find the idea difficult to grasp and so we are experiencing low ratings... Those that do grasp it have given incredibly negative responses thinking we would ask them to do the same, and we will, as a benefit to society. Our Utopia will eminently come in the American domain!

10  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / $3000 MIT Course on GPU Computing -- Bonus Crypto Info Inside on: June 29, 2011, 08:20:00 AM
http://web.mit.edu/professional/short-programs/courses/graphic_cards_technical_computing.html

Thoughts? Anyone catch this?  Grin

I think it's a shame they used NVIDIA, but it'd of been cool to sit in on the course and listen to them explain parallel processing in depth from an academic perspective.

Bonus: Cryptography and Computer Security MIT Course with the lecture notes found here.

If you found this information useful donate... to Wikileaks because they now accept BTC!
