3  Economy / Computer hardware / [WTS] Cointerra Terraminer IV (1/2 speed) & Coin Craft Miners on: November 01, 2014, 06:18:59 PM
Hi gang,

I've got a couple of boxes I'm letting go cheap. The Terraminer IV lost it's water cooling on a board keeping it from hashing. It's visible to the controller, but needs to be repaired. The other half works great.

The Coin Craft works like a charm, although I had to add another PSU to split the boards for stability. It's kind of a Frankenstein, but delivers.

$375 pickup in Dundalk, MD.

More details are on our local Craigslist.

4  Economy / Computer hardware / [WTS] Cointerra Terraminer IV at Half Power on: October 13, 2014, 04:45:37 PM
Hello,

I have a Cointerra Terraminer IV that is only operating at half-power. It looks like the pump went out on one of the boards, so it doesn't hash to keep it from overheating. The other hashes along nicely at 800 or so, no problem.

I've never opened the machine and have the original packaging, etc. I got it new in April of this year and it hashed along steadily until this happened.

Anyone interested in taking this off my hands? Make me an offer. I can accept PayPal or BTC.

I'm in Baltimore, Maryland, USA.

Thanks, Dan
5  Bitcoin / Hardware / Help! Please. Lost IP Address/Access on Coin Craft 1TH. on: May 01, 2014, 07:46:46 PM
Hi gang,

So I'm really hoping one of you pros can help me out on this one. I looked around the board and didn't see anything on this particular case, but if I missed it, just point me in the right direction please.

Let me lay the groundwork to give you plenty of ammo to light me up Smiley

First off, I tried to save a few hundred bucks by buying direct out of Hong Kong. I settled on a "reputable" company with a history in the space, and purchased a Coin Craft right that's supposed to run at 1TH.

The unit arrived DOA. After much back and forth, they said they'd make it up to me on MY NEXT ORDER! I guess that they didn't get that it was DOA. Not only that, it had been run for at least some time as it was dust filled -- on the fans, in the case, etc.

So I rolled-up my sleeves to try to make some lemonade, right? I took it apart and started testing. I got it narrowed down to a bad PSU (Cougar GX 1050 - must have been run hard before 'cause they're good from what I understand) and a bad Raspberry Pi and a bad LED that doesn't work. Trifecta, right? Ugh.

I got that taken care of with a NewEgg order (sans LED as that's part of the controller board) and was off to the races -- or so I thought.

I plugged-in my Mac via Ethernet and adjusted the network config to get on the same 1st segment (wifi off) and then navigated to 192.168.1.10 in my browser. I was in! This was huge as just a few days before I was out serious cash.

So I tried to setup my Slush's Pool connection and couldn't get it to connect. I thought it must be cause I'm trying to rig this thing to mine through a wifi at work as we don't have hard line ethernet available. So I changed the IP address (gasp!) in the web browser interface to the miner to 172.20.1.458. Those of you who know, just choked. I didn't, and here's where my trouble begins.

So I know now that you can't have that last three digits above .255. That's just the way IP addresses work. But the web browser took the settings and immediately cut off my access. Boom. Gone.

So I thought I'd just navigate to the "bad" IP address and get it back to an acceptable range, but I cannot get my Mac to see the machine when hard wired in to save my life.

The "documentation" that came with this thing is a complete joke. It literally looks like a two page email.

Does anyone have any ideas how I can get this thing back online?

1. Is there a factory reset I can do? And how.

2. Can I access and configure the machine through the Raspberry Pi's USB slot? I've never had one before and had to order a male-male USB cable?

3. Is there a way I can confirm the IP address of the machine? I think it's what I set it to, but as bad a luck as I've had so far, I could have typo-ed that puppy too!

4. Anything I'm not thinking of?

I just need to get back to the web interface and I think I can figure out the rest. ha Smiley

Why I thought it'd be a straight-up process this way is beyond me. I don't think I'll be dipping my toe in that water again.

If anyone has any ideas on how to get me out of this muck, I'd be more than appreciative. Heck, I'll send you some awesome homemade beef jerky if you're in the states. Int'l is so expensive to ship.

Thanks, Dan
6  Economy / Goods / Homemade Small-Batch Beef Jerky & We Accept Bitcoins! on: April 19, 2014, 06:51:28 PM
I just got into mining and was inspired by the Bees Brothers and their small business accepting Bitcoins, so I'm following suit with my little family's homemade beef jerky business. We make small-batch (12 packs or so per batch) homemade beef jerky. It started out as friends and family, then took off a bit to a regular thing.

You can see our regular site at http://www.DundalkDan.com.

I just setup a product using BitPay so people can purchase our popular and highly-rated Dundalk Dan's Sweet BBQ beef jerky.

Here's a recent review: http://thejerkyreport.blogspot.com/2014/04/review-dundalk-dan-awesome-beef-jerky.html

7  Bitcoin / Mining support / How I Am Solo Mining Bitcoin on a Mac Using Bitcoin QT, cgminer & Antminer U2 on: March 28, 2014, 04:30:28 PM
Sorta Complete Nube’s Guide to Solo Mining Bitcoin on a Macbook Pro running Mavericks with an Antminer U2

Wooo hoo! I just got my Mac solo mining Bitcoin for me. It didn’t come easy, but now at least I know I’m in the lottery for around $12k every 10 minutes or so. That’s what I’m in it for - the lottery aspect. I get the math and that it’s likely to take years for me to find a block, but it’s that likely word that gets me. Maybe it won’t. Maybe it’ll be next Tuesday as I’m working I’ll get that magical hit that’ll get me 25 Bitcoins!

To get to this stage, I had to do some research about Bitcoins, pools, tools, software, hardware - all that. It wasn’t easy and the bits and pieces that I needed are out there, but seemed to be spread about in various spots.

The purpose of this post is to give back to everyone that helped everyone else — which in turn got me here. I’m going to provide a step-by-step guide for someone with a similar setup to the one I’m using to get started.

So let’s go -

Assuming you have a Bitmain Antminer U2 (probably a U1 as well), that’s all the hardware you need. I tried the GPU with my fancy Retina video card and it heated-up quick, so I bailed on that. Plus it wasn’t very fast. The Antminer runs about 1.6GH/s which seems decent. I picked this one up for $36 w/ free Prime shipping. I get a small cut if you use my link. Sweet! Retirement here I come.

http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00ITD5NV6/ref=as_li_tf_tl?ie=UTF8&camp=1789&creative=9325&creativeASIN=B00ITD5NV6&linkCode=as2&tag=greenbean-20

Once you have your hardware, let’s get your software in order.

1. Download Bitcoin Core - Wallet
https://bitcoin.org/en/choose-your-wallet

Choose Bitcoin Core and be part of the network.

Get this running on your Mac. It took a solid 1.5 days for my system to download the data to make it come alive. Be patient. Let it run. One thing I didn’t do, but ran across a tip in my travels here, was to Command+I click (get info) on the Bitcoin app in the app folder and select the option to “prevent app nap” under General. Apparently this would have sped thing up for me. Let us know if that helps.

Once you get your Bitcoin Wallet setup, you’ll need a target Bitcoin address to have your blocks sent to. To get this, act like you’re asking for money by clicking the receive button and then [Request Payment] button. There you’ll find a long string of characters — get that and save it for later.

2. Download CGminer
http://spaceman.ca/cgminer/

Download the full package and install it.

3. Add a bitcoin.conf that your Bitcoin QT app will reference upon opening to tell it how to act. This file needs to be a plain text file with the .conf extension — not a .txt extension. Hugely important.

I’m using a super simple file with just these lines, nothing else.

—————————

server=1
rpcuser=youmakethisuserup
rpcpassword=youmakethispasswordup
rpctimeout=30
rpcallowip=127.0.0.1
rpcport=8332

—————————

About those “youmakethisup” — seriously, make it up and remember it. You’re telling Bitcoin QT what the userID and password is for the connection you’re going to make using CGminer. Make them up and use them in a few minutes.

Now, create that text file and put it in the appropriate folder. For me, I alt/option clicked the Go option in Finder and went to

Library/Application Support/Bitcoin and dropped it in there. Double check to make sure your Mac didn’t add .txt to the end. Command + I click on that to change it if you have to.

4. Plug-in your Antminer.

5. Now start your Bitcoin QT Wallet app. Hopefully everything goes fine.

6. Once that is running (important), now start your CGminer app. When the app loads, you’ll be prompted with a startup dialog that says:

cgminer for Mac OS X.
Enter any command-line options here:

I added this and hit enter.

-o http://127.0.0.1:8332 -u youmakethisuserup -p youmakethispasswordup --btc-address youaddyourbitcoinaddressfromstep1above

That’s it! Hopefully it works for you like it worked for me.

If you feeling like buying me a beer ‘cause I helped out, please do. I haven’t received even a fraction of a Bitcoin yet, so that’d help me test my system. That’s how new I am to all of this.

This address ‘should’ be ready to receive Smiley   14Y9FKNVJCUgvpQpmx2CNT35nYk3xqZq2z

Hopefully this helps someone and good luck solo mining! Sounds like we need all the luck we can get!
