Mexican banknotes in their appearance and beauty resemble finished paintings that can be looked at for hours; there is something special about them, something that draws you in. There are more than 250 Mexican and Latin American banknotes in the collection now, some of them are the only ones in such excellent condition and with such high grades assigned by PMG.
 
There are portraits of prominent Mexican politicians and public officials on the front side of the banknotes, while the reverse side depicts historical events, old and modern architectural monuments.

All of the banknotes were  printed by the legendary ABNC – American Banknote Company – in the best traditions of intaglio printing and embossing. The format is large  – 185x82 mm.
 
All of the banknotes were graded by PMG (Paper Money Guaranty), the world’s largest third-party paper money grading service.  
 
It took more than 5 years to build this collection. Many of the banknotes are unique and it is impossible to buy those at public or even sealed bid auctions.

I get this question from time to time and I want to give a really detailed answer. First of all, what can a crypto state do this or next year? Protect its citizens in the real physical world? No. Crypto states have no power resources. Can crypto states protect their borders? Again, no. A crypto state can issue laws but it has no power to force people to abide by these laws. The only punishment crypto states can impose on those users who violate the laws is to ban them from the system. If the system is quite popular, this kind of punishment may be effective.   
 
I’ll give an example: I know entrepreneurs who run their business on Facebook. So, if Facebook bans them, it’ll result in a serious damage to their business. As a result, these guys pay close attention to the content they publish on Facebook, YouTube and other social media. At the same time, it’s quite the opposite in the crypto community – most of its members like to violate rules. Any crypto network, including Bitcointalk, is actually weak and small. Its rules are easy to ignore and violate. So, what will actually happen if we try to build a crypto state based on such foundations? It will end up being simply a pastime for a small group of people who like to write laws.   
 
What do we need to build a real functioning crypto state? How can we build a crypto state where ban is a serious punishment?  The answer is: we have to create a large marketplace. Why a marketplace? Because the only thing a crypto state is able to control at the moment are transactions between private individuals and/or companies. For this purpose, a crypto state should issue laws to regulate how the transactions are made. However, there is no point in doing all this if the number of transactions is small – it is no big deal if you get banned on a website that does not bring you money. No biggie. 
 
Consequently, we have to create a large and busy marketplace before creating a crypto state. But this marketplace will be valued and respected only if there are dozens or even hundreds of millions of customers. Unfortunately, we do not have so many crypto holders just yet. 
 
I’m really fascinated by the idea of a crypto state myself and it is my dream for it to appear. But let’s be honest – it is too early for it now.

Когда мы проводили ICO я пообщался почти с каждым инвестором. Не со всеми. Старался поговорить с большей частью. Мой месседж был прост. Вы можете вложить только ту сумму денег, которую готовы потерять. Я не уставал это повторять раз за разом. Некоторым инвесторам я сам отказывал в покупке токенов. Таких случаев было немного. Может быть два или три раза я отказал. Дело не в этике. Дело не в морали. И не в репутации.

Дело в том, что один из моих бизнесов — это детективное агенство. И я видел множество ситуаций ненамеренного жульничества. Люди говорили, что проект ждет успех, а потом происходили форс-мажоры. И вот уже разъяренные инвесторы нанимают детективов для поиска жуликов. Мы расследуем ситуацию очень подробно и выясняем — никто не хотел обманывать на старте. Просто так получилось. Не рассчитали силы. Не предвидели каких-то ситуаций. Злонамеренное жульничество происходит гораздо реже, чем частные случаи идиотизма. А результат один — судебное преследование со стороны инвесторов, тюрьма для глупого предпринимателя.

И зря некоторые думают, что можно скрыться — бывало что мы искали людей два года и находили. И зря некоторые думают, что десятков миллионов долларов хватит на всю жизнь. Если человек до этого не управлял большими деньгами, то он потеряет любую большую сумму за пару лет. И мало того, окажется в ситуации гораздо худшей, чем был до этого.

Зная все это, я решил мы будем работать только с теми инвесторами, которые готовы к потерям. Вряд ли меня услышат, но я бы рекомендовал всем остальным ICO придерживаться той же политике. Мы участвуем в высокорискованной игре. 9 из 10 проектов после сбора денег провалятся. И в них проинвестируют разные люди, в том числе и как тот парень из начала поста. Вложит кредитные деньги. Это глупый парень. Он не готов был к роли инвестора. И задача команды ICO объяснить ему, что он не дорос для таких игр. Возможно это просто не его. Они этого не сделали. Сейчас парень поплачет, а потом начнет уголовное преследование команды ICO, потому что он будет зол. А у команды ICO впереди будет много не очень веселых лет.

Так может имеет смысл предотвратить ситуацию. Может имеет смысл сразу сказать: ребята, провал возможен. Инвестировать кредитные деньги в ICO — плохая идея и мы вам отказываем.

Маленький муравей не может поднять большого жука. Это могут сделать только много маленьких муравьев. К чему эта метафора? Раз вы читаете это сообщение, значит вы принадлежите к криптосообществу. Это означает, что каждое утро вы проверяете в своем телефоне или на компьютере текущий курс эфира, биткоина или другой криптовалюты. Расстраиваетесь, потому что крипта не растет. I keep hearing the same question over and over again: what will happen to bitcoin? Will it grow? Will it drop? I mostly get this from people far from the crypto world.
 
At the same time, people familiar with the matter collect ‘mathematical signs’. Here is a diagram – they point at some diagram – and this means either growth or decline. Those people are disconnected from reality and do not learn from history. 
 
There were guys who founded a company called Long-Term Capital Management back in the 90s. Two Nobel laureates were among the founders. They honestly believed in the predictive power of statistics, mathematics and probability theory. Then, a number of events those guys considered unlikely or even impossible occurred in 1998. The company went bankrupt. Predictive power of mathematical models proved ineffective on the exchange. Now everybody forgot this story: people still like hiring physicists and developing AI to gamble on stock exchanges.   
 
Personally, I do not believe in such things. Nobody can predict the future. Neither Warren Buffett, nor physicists, let alone economists. And astrologists can’t help because they are not good with predictions either. Thus, my conclusion is relatively simple: nobody knows what the future will bring. 
 
We can try to build the future we want, though. Do I want crypto and bitcoin to grow? I do. I’m not going to lie. I will get profits from this. But what keeps BTC from growing? Bad marketing. 
 
Many ordinary people know there is such thing as bitcoin and some even know what cryptocurrencies are. The thing is, an ordinary person does not have any reasons to get into this game. Many members of the crypto community do not think much of newcomers, taking them for fools because they did not see the potential in cryptocurrencies. However, the whole crypto world now is not bigger than an Esperanto lovers club. So if we want the crypto community to expand, we need new blood; in fact, we need more people than we already have. 
 
I believe that our task is to attract ordinary people in the crypto world, not to treat them as fools. The long-awaited growth of crypto will happen only if we adopt this policy. 
 
The next fair question is: what should we do? How can we attract people? 
There always are unemployed people, people with lots of free time and those who work from home. Me and my team are currently putting a great deal of energy and time into attracting freelancers, people who want to offer their services, to our marketplace where they can find clients and receive payments in crypto. We have to explain (over and over again) how to receive and store crypto, and what they can do with it afterwards. And you know what? Almost all of them agree to publish their ads on our website. This is additional income and advertising – so, why not?
 
I’m not saying we are doing everything right. I just think that our actions have more impact on the community than endless attempts to predict the future of bitcoin.

Люди в теме собирают «математические приметы». График вот такой - указывают на график, а это значит, что сейчас будет рост или падение. Эти парни вообще оторваны от реальности. И плохо помнят историю.

Были такие ребята, которые в девяностых основали компанию Long-Term Capital Management. Среди основателей - два нобелевских лауреата. Искренне верили в предсказательную силу статистики, математики и теории вероятности. Потом произошли события в 98ом году, которые они считали маловероятными и вообще невероятными. Компания де-факто обанкротилась. Предсказательная сила математических моделей на бирже оказалась нулевой. Но все про это забыли и поэтому до сих пор модно делать искусственный интеллект, который будет на бирже играть и нанимать физиков.

Лично я в эти истории не верю. Никто не может предсказать будущее. Ни Уоррен Баффет, ни физики, ни тем более экономисты. Искал как-то астролога. У них тоже плохо с предсказаниями. Помнится один астролог предсказал долгую счастливую жизнь моему другу накануне смерти. Поэтому мой вывод прост - будущего никто не знает.

Однако попробовать это будущее построить можно. Хочу ли я чтобы стоимость крипты и биткоина в частности - росла? Хочу. Врать не буду. Мне это будет выгодно. А что мешает росту? Плохой маркетинг. Сейчас много обывателей знают, что есть такая штука как биткоин. Чуть меньше знают, что такое криптовалюты.

Но вот мотива входить в игру у обывателя нет. Многие в криптомире не жалуют неофитов. Типа они дураки - не разглядели вовремя криптовалюты. Однако сейчас весь криптомир по количеству игроков вряд ли превышает кружок любителей языка эсперанто. А если мы хотим, чтобы тема крипты не умерла и не задохнулась, то требуется прилив новой крови. Причём в объемах,  превышающих «старую кровь».

И наша задача - вовлекать обывателя в криптомир, а не относиться к ним как снобы. Только если мы будем придерживаться этой политики и возникнет тот самый рост крипты.

Следующий закономерный вопрос: а что тогда делать? Как привлечь? В мире всегда есть безработные, либо люди со свободным временем. Лично я сейчас с командой трачу достаточно много сил и времени, чтобы завлекать фрилансеров. Привлекать на площадку людей, которые выставляют свои услуг за криптовалюты. Многим (почти всем) приходится объяснять и как хранить крипту, и что с ней потом делать. И фрилансеры потихоньку соглашаются размещать свои объявления. Это же дополнительный заработок и дополнительная реклама. Почему бы и нет.

Я не к тому, что мы делаем все правильно. Я к тому, что от таких действий больше пользы, чем от попыток предугадать завтрашний курс биткоина.

Наверное большинство из нас пользуется двухфакторной аутентификацией, работая с биржами и кошельками. Но так ли безопасен этот метод?

People are too keen on visualizing some ideal future of the crypto world. This may be embedded into our history – the world was created by mathematicians. This is now the main obstacle on the way of cryptocurrencies substituting fiat money – mathematicians believe they can predict people’s actions. Here is an example. 
 
There was a comment by @nmax21 on my last post(https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=4564931.0;topicseen). The post is about using cryptocurrencies as we use ordinary fiat money and make crypto a real payment method. The comment says that crypto is not ready for it just yet.
 
I will give a long response to this objection. People, stop searching for flaws in the existing cryptocurrencies! They are all just a theory that has nothing to do with reality whatsoever. Here is a real story for you:
There are turntables sold on our marketplace. So, a woman decides to buy her husband a turntable and remembers that at some point in her life she has bought a biocoin. Biocoin is not a common token and it has not become popular yet. Nevertheless, it is quite stable. The project is not a scam, it just quietly develops at its own pace.   
As the woman does not have much money, she decides to pay for the turntable in biocoins. The seller is more competent, so he knows everything: how to exchange boicoins for more common currencies and what possible reasons to hold biocoins exist. The woman does not see that biocoins are promising in the long term, while the seller does. Anyway, the deal is done, both parties are happy and no one thinks that cryptocurrencies are not ready to function as fiat money.
 
You might say that was just a coincidence. Forgive me, but these coincidences add up to a sufficient number of transactions performed on our marketplace. Sure, eBay does more transactions than we do. But you know what? Even Amazon had only a dozen closed deals a day when it had first entered the market because online purchases were a rare thing, a novelty back then. There were people who bought goods online just for the fun of it.
 
The thing is that even the relatively small number of deals on the platform gives our team energy and strength to move forward. All these stories inspire us to improve the marketplace. If our team was trying to create a perfect currency or a perfect marketplace, we would probably just stop as we would have no energy to keep going. Small stories of success can inspire us, while the ideal world can’t – it is just an illusion, a hallucination about ‘how it could be’. You don’t have to be perfect because ‘perfect’ is not the same for everyone. We all have different ideals. And the woman from our story is already happy with the way things turned out. 

One guy wrote a post on the Internet. He invested in an ICO and did not know what to tell his wife because the money he invested were borrowed from a bank and the ICO failed. Nobody wants those tokens anymore. So, what should this guy do now, in your opinion?

     When we were launching an ICO I spoke to almost all of our investors. Not with all of them but with the majority. My message was simple – you should invest the amount of money you are willing to lose. I kept saying this over and over again. I even refused some of the potential investors. Not many, but still I turned two or three of them down. It was not about ethics. It was not about morality. It was not about reputation.

The thing is that one of my businesses is a detective agency. Thus, I saw many malicious fraud cases. People say a project will be a success and then some force majeure happens. This is when infuriated investors hire detectives to find the fraudsters. We conduct a thorough investigation on the case and see that no one actually intended to cheat at first. It just happened.They just did not calculate their own strength. Did not foresee all the possible outcomes. In fact, willful fraud cases are not as common as single cases of stupidity. But the outcome is always the same – court cases initiated by the investors and jail for the stupid entrepreneur.

Some people wrongly assume that it is possible to flee – there were cases when we had been searching for 2 years but managed to find people in the end. Whatever large amount of investments a person gets, they will lose it in a couple of years if they have no experience of managing such sums. Moreover, they will end up in a much worse situation than they were before. 

Knowing all this, I have decided to work only with those investors who were ready to lose money. Even though my thoughts are unlikely to be heard, I highly recommend that all ICOs adopt this policy. We all play a very high-risk game: 9 projects out of 10 fail after collecting money. Different people, including ones like the guy I was talking about, invest into projects; they invest money borrowed from banks. These people are stupid. They are not ready to be investors. The ICO team has to explain that investing is out of their league. Maybe they are just not suited for this.

However, ICOs do not do this. As a result, after crying his eyes out, our guy will get angry and file a report to the police to initiate criminal proceedings against the ICO team. The team will have many unpleasant years ahead.

So maybe it is reasonable to prevent such situations? Maybe saying ‘guys, we can fail’ at the beginning makes perfect sense? ‘Investing credit money in an ICO is a bad idea and this is why we refuse you’?

There are two opinions in the crypto world: some people consider cryptocurrencies digital gold, while others believe that cryptocurrencies will be used as means of payment.
 
The first idea is quite convenient. You can just do nothing. For the first time ever, doing nothing has actually become a heroic deed – people are proud to be hodlers, proud to do nothing with their cryptocurrency. But do you really believe this approach will change the world? Seriously?
 
Let’s be honest. Real crypto communities – there are few. There are few people who own cryptocurrency. The number is vanishingly small. Crypto prices will not grow while there are so few of us. The demand is just too small and there are no drivers of growth.
 
So, what should we do? Is there a reason to just sit and wait for cryptocurrencies to grow? I believe there is none. The only possible solution is that people actually start using crypto in their everyday lives. The number of crypto transactions should amount to hundreds of millions a day. Then, and only then, will cryptocurrencies grow in price.
 
Personally, I see no other options. However, this cannot be handled by one man alone. The whole crypto community should do this. You may ask: is it possible to live paying with cryptocurrencies only? Judging from our experience –  yes. People will say I’m biased, since I founded a project where you can sell and buy goods for crypto. Yes, it’s true. Still, I’m more interested in expansion of cryptocurrencies than in my project’s expansion. In fact, I founded it for one simple reason: I’m sure that hodlers will never change the world. But we will. We should just learn from the guys in our videos who pay with cryptocurrencies in everyday life and make cryptocurrencies valuable.  

Есть два мнения в критомире. Первая: критовалюты - это цифровое золото. Вторая: криптовалюты - можно будет использовать как платежное средство.

Первая позиция очень удобна. Можно ничего не делать. И впервые ничегонеделание стало подвигом. Люди гордятся тем, что они «ходлеры». Они гордятся тем, что ничего не делают со своей криптовалютой. Вы правда верите, что такое поведение изменит мир? Серьезно?

Давайте откровенно. Реальное криптосообщество - мало. Реальных людей, которые владеют криптовалютой - мало. Во всем мире - несколько миллионов. Это ничтожное количество. Пока нас мало роста у крипты не будет. Просто спрос на неё мал и нет факторов роста.

Что же делать? Имеет смысл сидеть на печи и ждать роста стоимости крипты? Я считаю, что нет. Следующий виток развития криптовалют только один - если люди начнут пользоваться криптовалютой в повседневной жизни. Только если количество операций будет исчисляться сотнями миллионов в день, только тогда крипта будет расти в стоимости.

Лично я не вижу других факторов. И это не может сделать один человек. Это может сделать только все криптосообщество. Спросите: возможно ли жить только за криптовалюты? Наш опыт показывает, что да. Многие скажут, что я предвзят. У меня у самого проект для торговли за крипту. Да. Это так. Но мне интереснее развитие криптовалюты даже больше, чем развитие своего проекта. Hello,

I'm having an issue where blocks are not getting downloaded on my Linux bitcoind client. The latest block I've downloaded is 135094, which is clearly not the latest block available.

I've restarted several times, and I always have a steady 5-100 connections (typically steady at 20). Port 8333 is forwarded correctly as well.

I've even added a few fallback nodes - but it still refuses to download blocks.

In my debug.log, I'm getting the following:

EDIT: Just restarted my client again and it slowly rose to 100 connections, then slowly fell to 8. Not it's idling at around 10.

Anyone use this site? I make transactions on many different PCs + my phone so this looks promising.
The custom URL looks cool too. Just dunno if the site's legit.
