3  Economy / Collectibles / [FYI] So, ANACS is certainly grading Cas brass higher these days... on: February 24, 2016, 06:41:12 AM
This was my first time getting anything re-graded!

These were originally graded several years ago.

They were cracked (by me) before being sent back in.

MS-63 ---> MS-65 (+2)
MS-63 ---> MS-67 (+4)

These coins aren't for sale, I just thought it was interesting (especially the 4 point bump).

Also intersting to see how they've changed the slab labels since then too.

So, did I just get lucky here, or is this something to be expected?

  • The coin's hologram has been peeled off and the private key has been redeemed.
  • The hologram sticker has been replaced flat on the coin and is included.
  • The original ANACS slab and the protective coin ring will also be included.

  • I overfunded the coin in 2013 with an additional BTC15 (for a total of BTC40).

Please post here or PM me with any offers.

There's no strict deadline, but I'll be making the final decision within a few days.

Please let me know if you have any questions and I'll do my best to answer them!

Here are some pictures of the opened slab and the coin:

I have a graded 25 BTC Casascius coin that I'm considering selling in the near future.

The coin's public address is 1PtwkMfs6hdcLRyaYvTmwQvxPakRGokX3L.

The coin's total funded value is BTC40. I loaded the coin with an additional BTC15 in 2013.

I'm the original owner of this coin. I purchased it directly from Mike Caldwell.

I'd appreciate any assistance in determining the ballpark value of this coin.

Thanks very much, and I'd be more than happy to answer any questions!

6  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / [DESIGN] Custom-Built Lexan / Aluminum Mining Case on: September 01, 2011, 07:32:04 AM
hi!

I've had a mining machine running for a few months, and I thought I'd share some images. I've benefited from many ideas, designs, guides, and photos from this forum! so, this is the third iteration: v1 was 2x5830s in an Antec 300 case, v2 was 4x5830s in an improvised open frame, and v3 (below) is 4x5830s in an aluminum and lexan (polycarbonate) case which I actually planned out before building it. in a nutshell: v1) ran fine but had no room for 4 cards and v2) ran too hot, required external fans, and was huge. my goals for v3 were: a) no external cooling and b) smaller than 12" x 12" x 18". plans were made in google sketchup first.

the frame is 1/16" x 3/4" aluminum L-shaped strips, and the siding is 3/32" sanded lexan. the frame is held together with #8 machine screws and a combination of hex nuts (internal) and cap nuts (external). the panels have 1/2" holes which can fit around a hex nut, yet be secured with a fender washer, so they can be removed without taking apart the frame or needing to get inside the case; they're also secured with sections of velcro.

here are a few more pictures; the last one was taken with the top panel off.

after much (too much) trial and error, I'm running debian wheezy (testing) with catalyst 11.6 and app sdk 2.5. through a combination of mostly python and rrdtool, I've built a visual monitoring system for the machine:

anyway, I'm happy to go into more detail about any of this stuff; feel free to ask!

take care, -dan
7  Economy / Goods / [FOR SALE] DVI / VGA Dummy Plugs (4x) Hand-built, Metal-shells on: August 01, 2011, 03:25:55 AM
Hi, I have 4 extra dummy plugs for sale.

Each one of these was hand-soldered and built by me. They consist of one standard DVI to VGA converter connected to a custom-built VGA / D-SUB shell. The two components can be unscrewed and separated if necessary.

Each plug contains three 68-ohm resistors soldered to the appropriate pins, and surrounded with heat-shrink tubing for insulation and stability. Each shell is capped with an aluminum post-screw to prevent foreign material from entering. All hardware has been replaced with stainless steel machine screws and nylon washers. These plugs won't fall or get knocked out of your video cards. Of course, they've all been tested and work fantastically.

You can buy one plug for 1 BTC.
Or buy two for 1.75 BTC (0.875 BTC each).
Or buy three for 2.4 BTC (0.8 BTC each).
Or buy all four for 3 BTC (0.75 BTC each).

And finally, some images:

Thanks very much for looking, and feel free to contact me at loglow@gmail.com if you're interested in buying any or have any questions.

Take care. -Dan
8  Bitcoin / Project Development / [OFFER] Custom physical BTC address cards w/ QR Codes, standard credit-card size on: July 06, 2011, 02:21:05 AM
Update 2: These cards are currently no longer available due to my own time restrictions. Please feel free to contact me in any case if you're interested or have any questions. Thanks.

Update 1: These cards follow the Bitcoin URI Scheme so they should be 100% compatible with the new Bitcoin Android App and will allow you to accept payments!

Hi,

In the interest of both easily accepting bitcoin payments and also promoting the idea of bitcoin in general (to folks who don't know what it is yet), I designed and printed some simple address cards for myself. They have a large, high-error-correction QR code which contains a standard bitcoin address URI. They also have the address in plaintext in case a QR code reader isn't available (the font is machine-readable OCR-A). So far, the cards I've made have gotten a good amount of interest from people I've showed them to, sparked conversations and so forth, so I thought other people might want these with their own addresses/info on them!

If you'd like some of your own--customized with your own information of course--I'd love to make you some: 0.25 BTC for 8

These are not cards with a loaded value of bitcoins; they don't store nor incorporate private keys at all, so they don't pose any sort of wallet security risk. Think of them as promotional tools, bitcoin business cards, or just a convenient way of sharing your address with others and/or receiving payments in the real world. Most phones have cameras, and the vast majority of them can scan QR codes (iPhones can do this easily and for free).

Anyway, some details:
  • Cards are standard credit-card size, 3.37" x 2.125"
  • Printed professionally on 80lb ultra-white card stock
  • Design is vector format and laser-printed, so all lines are perfectly crisp & clean
  • The cards are laminated for durability, as well as some basic tamper-proof security
  • Sweet looking rounded corners. Snazzy!
  • Free shipping anywhere in the US! (located elsewhere? let's talk)
  • High error tolerance: the QR code can still be scanned even with a dime sitting on top of it!
  • Your own custom text on the reverse side! Anything you want, or leave it blank.

And of course, pictures!

Thanks for looking & take care,

9  Other / Beginners & Help / [POSSIBLE SCAM] Bitcoin Mining Accelerator / Coin Miner on: June 29, 2011, 08:44:21 PM
Hello, I'm newly registered on these forums, but I've been active with Bitcoin for some time now.

Today I received an unsolicited email from contact@bitcoin-mining-accelerator.com regarding a supposed "Bitcoin Mining Accelerator" program called "Coin Miner" including a link to http://bitcoin-mining-accelerator.com/ and an invitation to beta test it for free. I don't know how my email address was obtained, but I can only assume it was via the Mt. Gox database leak.

The download is an EXE installer. The install seems to include GUIMiner, as well as who knows what else. I find the whole thing very sketchy to say the least. Fortunately I don't keep my wallet on my mining rig, but I've taken security precautions nonetheless, and will be wiping my mining machine ASAP. I know it was stupid to open an unknown EXE. However, since my wallet wasn't on the machine was less concerned about potential malware.

Did anyone else receive this email? Does anyone have any information about this email, website, product, or company?

Please feel free to move this topic to the appropriate location. Since I'm a brand new user, this is the only place I can post.
