1  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / Building a small mining rig, need critique, potential small BTC reward on: April 27, 2012, 06:14:24 PM
I'm looking to build a small mining rig since I have a couple of spare video cards hanging around from upgrades on the single card I currently mine with. My intentions are to use the 5670 and the 6850 that I have to spare in this rig. I also have a 5870 that is what I am currently mining with. If anyone can suggest improvements to the setup I've come up with that are in the same price range, I'll happily drop a small BTC reward their way if they provide a wallet address.

A couple of notes about the environment for the system. I've specified a case because where I live is dusty everywhere, doesn't matter if you have air filters running, doors always closed, etc... There will be dust around. My current mining card (5870) runs in my main desktop system and I've essentially left the side off the case and replaced it with some window screen mesh to allow for more heat dissipation and to prevent dust from getting in. I still need to pull off the mesh, remove the card, and clean the interior of the case and the fans in the case and on the card about twice a month to remove dust build-up. So, if you recommend no case please also recommend a way to prevent dust from building up and potentially damaging the system.

Here is what I have tentatively put together, I haven't built a rig in more than a decade so I'm really rusty on this. That's why I'm looking for assistance.

My intention is to run a linux distribution (probably ubuntu) off of a USB drive for this system so no hard drive is included in the list. Anyhow, let me know if you think this system would work for the 5670 and 6850. Feel free to suggest upgrades in the same price range, or even out of the price range if you can give me a good reason to increase/decrease the cost for that component.

Thank you...

2  Economy / Goods / [WTS] chainmail wallet chains, sample pics in thread on: November 06, 2011, 04:42:36 PM
This offer is for one hand crafted wallet chain in the triple connector byzantine weave (as shown below). The chains are made from 14 gauge anodized aluminum with a split ring on one end (connects to the wallet) and a trigger snap on the other to connect to belt/belt loop. The chains are just over 24" long including trigger snap and split ring.

I normally sell these online for about $19 USD including shipping. Asking 6 BTC per wallet chain. The two sample pics are of color combos I have made up and available to ship immediately. I can make other color combos on request, this will delay shipping by 1-2 days while I make and tumble polish the new chain in your requested color combination.

I'll ship to the US for free or ship to Canada for an additional 1 BTC. If you are from some other country and want one feel free to PM me but shipping will be pricier as out of the US or Canada I'll only ship USPS international priority mail (too much trouble trying other shipping options to places outside of North America).

I've had one successful trade with interneting, noted in the honest traders thread.

Feel free to post any questions you have to this thread or PM them to me.

3  Economy / Goods / WTS: chainmail hackey sacks and dice bags/pouches for bitcoins on: September 19, 2011, 10:36:08 PM
Hi...

I have the following items (in hand as you can see in the picture). Pricing on these normally ranges from $15- $25 USD. I'm offering them for sale for the equivalent of $10 USD in bitcoins each, as an introductory offer since I don't have a rep on this board yet. Part of the lower price deal is my request that you post to the honest traders thread once you receive your item(s). I will only ship to US addresses but shipping in the US is included in the 2 bitcoin price. If you wonder if you can trust me, check my Ebay feedback (also user name Thralen) in the high 800s with 100% or my website at:www.allchainmail.com

These are the following: From top to bottom, left to right:
1. Bronze color aluminum dice bag/pouch: shown holding 25 standard sized dice, would hold more (dice not included.)
2. Stainless steel hackey sack (stainless steel shell with aluminum fill links to keep the weight down)
3. Copper (yes, the metal copper) dice bag/pouch: shown holding 25 dice, this pouch will also hold all sizes of US change or the smaller sets of dice (dice not included)
4. Red aluminum pouch/dice bag: shown holding 25 standard sized dice, will also hold all sizes US change or the smaller sets of dice (dice not included) - sold
5. Stainless steel hackey sack (stainless steel shell with aluminum fill links to keep the weight down)
6. Bronze metal pouch/dice bag (yes, the metal is bronze): shown holding 25 standard sized dice, will hold all sizes US change or smaller dice sets also (dice not included)

For size comparison that is a standard 8.5" X 11" sheet of paper they are on in the picture.

If interested, please PM me with your mailing address you'll want it mailed to and which item(s) you are interested in. Once I verify the the mailing address is in the USA I will PM you back with a wallet address to send the bitcoins to.

Items will be shipped USPS first class with delivery confirmation.

4  Other / Beginners & Help / any interest in chainmail hackey sacks, dice bags, etc. available for BTC? on: September 19, 2011, 04:48:11 AM
Finally having recovered enough time for some side projects, I've made up a few chainmail hackey sacks (same ones I sell on Ebay under the same username as here) that I intend to offer for bitcoins. Figured I'd drop the query in here first to get my 5th posting and then after I get them tumble polished (will do tomorrow) I would post them in the marketplace section. I'll list the first few items I'm selling for BTC at a discount if the purchaser will list in the honest traders thread upon receipt of the item.

Anyhow I figured I'd drop this in here and check tomorrow to see if there is any interest generated. I can make a large variety of chainmail items (hackey sacks, pouches/dice bags, jewelry, armor, wallet chains, exotic wear (yes, like chainmail or scalemail bikinis and halter tops), etc...) in a wide array of materials and wouldn't be adverse to doing some custom items for BTC as well.

I'll only, at the start, be willing to ship to US addresses so I can use delivery confirmation. If things go well I might be willing to branch out into international shipping at a later date.

5  Other / Beginners & Help / Issue with Guiminer on: July 10, 2011, 02:55:51 PM
I would've posted this to the miner programs thread but... newly registered and all that.

As of this morning, guiminer, set to slush's pool, would no longer connect. The issue was, I thought, easy. The host address had to be changed in servers.ini to reflect api2 instead of api (as was the default in the file) since Slush has had a message up for a while telling people to switch to the api2 address (I assumed guiminer had the new address and so hadn't checked before *blush*). So, that worked and got it connecting but... Here is the problem.

After I switched to api2 in the .ini file, the "refresh balance" button (showing totals confirmed and unconfirmed) disappeared entirely, despite manually plugging the addresses from the .ini file into a browser and them appearing to be correct. Does anyone know what might have happened there and have a fix? It is mainly cosmetic since I can go to the main page for the pool to check balances but, the refresh balance button does tend to save me some time and be much quicker when the GPU is really cranked.

Thanks and I hope this hasn't been covered before but I couldn't find any pertinent data with a search.
