1  Other / Meta / Can the Admins sent a mass voting PM to know when did people find out about BTC? on: March 31, 2024, 05:24:22 PM
So i posted this thread
https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5489399.msg63824314#msg63824314

About 4th halving countdown and your stories on when did you heard about bitcoin. I was thinking for this upcoming halving, can bitcoin talk send a mass emailer or a vote option to all registered users to gauge when did they first heard about bitcoin?

2  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / ~~~When did you first heard about bitcoin 2024 Halving edition~~ on: March 18, 2024, 04:36:39 PM
So we have around 1 month left for the 4th halving. Thought of creating a topic to gauge the bitcoin fever!
I first found out about BTC back in Q1 2011. I think i seriously got into it in May 2011. Dl'ed the core software on sep 30 2011.(blockchain size was around ~600mb). Got free BTC via bitcoin faucet 0.05.  Started mining in 2012 via bitminter(geforce 525m getting 12mhps). HDD crashed and i forgot until 2022 when i started serious devotion

Yeah Yeah i missed the bus even if it was in front of me. Had i lived in a country where Mt Gox supported my currency, it would have been another story.

3  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Having issues connecting electrum with bitcoin with bwt after updating core on: April 29, 2023, 08:13:32 AM
I have been using bitcoin core with plugin BWT to connect with my electrum( plugin is installed in electrum plugin folder). After a lot of efforts i was able to link electrum with bitcoin core as a single server using bwt plugin. https://github.com/bwt-dev/bwt-electrum-plugin

Now since i updated from bitcoin core 22.1.0 to to 24 version, i am getting errors.
Here is the error message in electrum plugin

INFO bwt » thread 'peer' panicked at 'called `Option::unwrap()` on a `None` value', src/util/mod.rs:33:45
INFO bwt::electrum » [127.0.0.1:53256] connected peer

Due to security issues the plugin only connects with cold wallet file of electrum.

Can anyone help me in this?

5  Bitcoin / Mining / Why dont BTC hardware manu re release old equip with smaller node. EDIT: heatbit on: April 10, 2023, 04:32:04 PM
I am talking about how sony re releases their playstation console with the same specs but will smaller nm tech and consuming less power.

Why cant Bitmain or others create S9 antminer which is based on 5nm and lets say consume 1/3 of energy compare to the original 16nm s9?

Watching this interview buy saifedean ammos is very insightful on what the future of mining will be like. Decentralized mining by the avg joe using asic miners which dont take 1K-3KW power
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z2Znc5zkIhk

Right now the manufacturers are catering towards the big boys who can operate farms. To make BTC more decentralised, the old mining hardware should be released with smallertech node.
10T\hash @ 700W would be a start.

Apollo and merch have 1-3T\HASH mining hardware but the hardware is not upto the mark and after sales is not that good.

Imagine having a S9i @ 13.5T/hash @ 5nm which only consumes 400W backed by a solar power system.

EDIT: My prayers have been answered!

6  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Can i post satoshi posts in other forums here? on: October 16, 2022, 01:30:21 PM
Hi Guys,
I have a couple of threads by a person claiming to be  satoshi who allegedly  posted in 2013/2014 in a conspiracy forum. Can i post the threads here so users can use discernment and discuss the veracity of his claims?

7  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Will satoshi come back and give his 1 million btc to users of this forum if BTC on: September 17, 2022, 06:51:38 AM
if BTC is no longer valuable and becomes like token?

I have heard that he mined 1 million btc and was hoping that BTC would have converted the entire financial system in 10 years.
IF his project fails what would he do with those coins?

9  Economy / Speculation / Your bitcoin ATL prediction before next halving on: June 18, 2022, 07:26:15 AM
Bitcoin was meant to break away from the stock market and fake debt based fractional economy. Sadly all the traders and short term gainers have joined the ride. If stocks crash then bitcoin also crashes.

2022 is a 7 year crash cycle known as shemitah year for those who dont know
1966 stock market downer 22%
1973 middle east oil embargo
1980 hard recession, home builders wiped out by 1982.
1987 black Monday stock market crash
1994 bond market massacre
2001, the 911 and dot com bubble crash
2008, the housing  crash
2015, stock market chaos, 7 trillion lost globally. China market crash 40%
2022---

So place your bets on how low it will go!
10  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Oakridge just unveiled 1 exaflop computing. So how much is Bitcoin hashrate is? on: May 31, 2022, 12:32:59 PM

11  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Have you saved your bitcoins in multiple wallets? on: May 23, 2022, 06:57:59 AM
As the saying goes dont keep your eggs in the same basket. So have you saved all of your btc in mutiple wallets\software?

I like to split with electrum air gapped and bitcoin core.

Should i make it 50:50 even though bitcoin core is always online?

The amount is not that much but i am thinking that if i make it to good amount of mbtc, it will be prudent to divide the amount.

Any OGs who can give feedback?

12  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / The average joe would never accept bitcoin as means of payment due to tx fees on: May 22, 2022, 06:49:48 AM
I believe that transaction fees and losing your wallet or getting hacked and not receiving any reimbursement is a serious achilles heel preventing mass adoption for bitcoin.

In many poor countries people use cash as means of payment and no extra fees is levied. If each and every single transaction is levied fees, then people wont spend as much as they spend with cash. I mean if you even transfer from one wallet to another you are levied fees.

The so called lightning network defense is not prudent as in lightning network the sellers i.p ids is being broadcasted to everyone.

bitcoin will only be like gold aka store of value.
13  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Gross btc in bitcoin core from multiple wallet files on: May 19, 2022, 10:54:48 AM
So i have connected electrum watch only with bwt plugin to bitcoin core. On top right of the corner i have the option to change wallets. Each wallet.dat file shows the btc amount but is there any way the bitcoin core shows gross btc of all the wallets that have been connected?

I dont want to manually calculate btc per wallet.

mods i dont know in which sub forum this belongs. Now i see dev and tech discussion forum.
14  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Do you own 1 Bitcoin? (2022 edition) on: May 18, 2022, 04:38:09 PM

Lets see 5 years down the road, has anything changed?
15  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Why no one creates bitcoin v2 to allow new users to join the bitcoin wagon? on: May 15, 2022, 05:56:01 AM
There have been more than 19400 cryptocurrencies but strangely no one has come with an idea to restart bitcoin so to allow new users to buy and mine it from the start. We already know that 4 million or more have been lost. What stops a computer programmer to copy the entire bitcoin code and change only the limit from 21million to 20 million.
What stops the average crypto user to not to invest in it?

Yes there have been forks like bitcoin cash or bitcoin sv but they dont start from 0

Satoshi himself stated that bitcoin is only one of the first, there might be superior versions of a cryptocurrency.
16  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / How would bitcoin difficulty adjustment work in reduced energy environment? on: May 13, 2022, 11:58:25 AM
What if energy reqd to mine\verify transactions is greatly reduced by authorities. The electricity consumption is also reduced, how would then bitcoin eco system work?

17  Other / Meta / No way to know if a user has edited the reply\topic on: May 12, 2022, 08:55:34 AM
So yesterday i was replying to a user asking for help
https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5398197.msg60104461#msg60104461

I first quickly replied to the questions and then edited my reply afterwords. What shocked me is that the forum software does not tell if a user has edited the reply!

eg of edited reply
https://www.godlikeproductions.com/forum1/message5111991/pg1#93765729
not related to the topic
https://www.godlikeproductions.com/forum1/message5130899/pg1

Can the admins add this feature?

Apologies for linking a conspiracy forum. I am a user there since 15 years and it was from that website i heard about bitcoin back in 2011.

ps: i have edited it 3 times!

18  Other / Meta / OP posting easier identification system on: May 07, 2022, 08:01:46 AM
Can the forum software be upgraded to add (OP) in caps after the user handle so to better know the original poster replies. I know that the original poster replies are written by his\her name but you have to concentrate to find the name of the poster. By adding (OP) just after the original poster replies, the human mind can quickly read the replies of the OP he/she only wants to read it.
19  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Why node operators are not given free bitcoins for hosting blockchain ? on: May 05, 2022, 09:58:18 AM
I know satoshi intended for miners to get the moolah for the hardwork but aren't we node operators part of the bitcoin operational community? As time goes by there will be less node operators due to blockchain size. Coundn't the software be updated to reward node operators for x amount of uptime will lead to x amount to free btc? We are also putting our electricity and hardware to use for the greater good.

I hope someone does a BIP for that

Also i did not want to make a new topic but can node operators vote in BIP? and how do miners vote in BIP?

20  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Where have you saved your bitcoin keys? (satoshi saved it in cd rom! allegedly) on: April 23, 2022, 04:50:40 PM
A thought experiment i wanted to know.
I have saved it in a disc (was inspired by satoshi who stated it that he has saved it and buried it)
memorised and saved in rasp pi 400 in air gapped though!
