1  Other / Beginners & Help / [Question] In Regards to using translators on local boards on: April 20, 2024, 05:11:30 PM
Perhaps in recent times now I have been receiving a few of notifications from almost three (3) different local boards that I don't visit and I don't understand the languages of this local boards.

I have searched on topics that relates to this but I'm not convinced with the replies I saw in one of the threads that relates to this so I decided to make this here.

Hence, I will love to know the rules that are related to this. Can one use a translator to grasp what is being discussed in a thread where you where quoted or mentioned? Perhaps I know using translators to comment on other local boards is frowned upon or is prohibited but does it also prohibited to use translators to know the reason why one is mentioned in other local boards?

Your sincere response will be appreciated. Thanks!

Note: This thread will be locked as soon as I have received enough response as desired.
2  Local / Nigeria (Naija) / Two things I (we) noticed in the local board on: January 08, 2024, 11:43:19 PM
Hello, our Nigerian (Naija) local board!

Recently, I have been so concerned about this local board and the activities here. There are two important things that I (we) have noticed here on the local board and wish to make known to everyone in order to call our attention and hence reduce or probably put an end to such acts.

1. In the cost of posting or actively participating in the forum (local board), people (especially newbies and beginners) have recently increased the shit posts here, bringing in posts that belong to social media or issues that aren't related to the sole purpose of the forum or local board to discuss here.
I wouldn't quote anybody or mention anyone here because I don't want it to be construed from a different perspective or seen as personal attacks. It's good to participate in discussions in the forum, but that doesn't mean one should just publish any sort of thing here. Be mindful of what you wish to publish; let it be at least impactful and relate to the sole purpose of the forum.

2. This is not so concerning, but at least it's needed. For everyone of us here who is delighted to write in pidgin, we should write them well. I noticed some misconceptions in our local language (pidgin). Most of us here, while communicating with pidgin, tend to write in our social media communication language (shortcut) spelling. Although it's not bad, where I became concerned was that while I was reading some translations with pidgins, I saw those shortcuts written in there. For example: Mk Una 4 uses this example. So I thought of how to improve our pidgin writing, and there I discovered it's even harder to find pidgin translator apps, so it's mostly done manually. Well, for us to write our Nigerian pidgin very well, I suggest we (especially Naija local board translators) should go to the Jahoval Witness website (JW.ORG) and read most of their translations to become well acquainted with our Naija pidgin.

Note: I'm also part of the number 2. So we all should just keep trying our best to write in the proper way.

Contributions are open to everyone! Thanks
3  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Using QR codes as Bitcoin address protection on: January 06, 2024, 01:33:33 AM
I was reading some threads talking about malware attacks and clipboard virus so I thought of using something new to protect Bitcoin address, though I'm still anticipating a cold wallet to use this method on but I thought of sharing it. I don't know if this belongs here or beginners and help.

Here is how I thought of using QR codes for bitcoin address protection.
  • There are lots of QR code generators on the internet but you should look for the most reliable provider to use. For instance, I used this website https://www.qr-code-generator.com/
  • After getting a reliable provider you can copy your bitcoin wallet address and paste in the text reserved area.
  • Hence it generates a QR code that you can download as an image.

So as when your bitcoin address is requested you can just send the image for scan to prevent your Bitcoin address from being tempered with. I also thought of how easy it would be for businesses that uses Bitcoin as payment method. It could be printed out and pasted on points where it can be scanned easily.

Although there could be some negative effect of this action but at least it's a good ideal from my perspective.

Note: I don't know if this topic has been raised before as I couldn't find one if so I apologize in advance.
4  Other / Beginners & Help / A piece of advise to everyone. on: December 21, 2023, 04:36:51 PM
I've observed a little mistakes that newbies like me usually make during conversations here in the forum. I have made this mistake here before, I suppose it was my first thread I created in this forum where I was arguing about some rubbish I thought I knew about.

Newbies/beginners and senior colleagues too do make this mistake of arguing with people in conversations that are not worth arguing about. Instead of responding to some quote where you were corrected you can just learn and remain silent than make some blind arguments that can lead to more wilder conversation that will either be out of point from the actual discussion.
Most times I see people creating enemies for themselves because they want to prove a point that they know some bull shit.

I will advise my fellow beginners to respect some correction and not make arguments just to prove yourself knowledged. instead of arguing you can just learn without quoting them back and blabbing rubbish. even till now some senior colleagues are still arguing with themselves because they feel they have the knowledge which someone is try to inculcate in them.

Don't make a fool of yourself trying to prove a point for some nonsense reputation that nobody gives a fuck about.

Just a friendly advise..

5  Other / Meta / [Question] What Areas are lacking in the forum? on: December 06, 2023, 04:05:05 PM
Disclaimer: This not an argument thread but all opinions   counts

I noticed some people are no longer active, some are active once in while though they hold positions in the forum which they are supposed to be puting things in order.
I'm concerned about the wellness of the forum, so I see new generation of people ranking up but are more concerned on what they benefit from the forum rather than what they claim to be interested in helping in the forum. Although in some point of view they might be helping but just in a minor way that may seem to be common.

Since there are few of us that are willing to render help we (Me in particular) want to know if there are areas which you believe is lacking attention that people like the new hard working members can actually take care of because this forum have lasted for a decade and more I believe some areas might be slacking gradually but seems to be fine.

This thread may not be necessary to some people but one unnecessary question can trigger a good rethink and lot of opinion on how the forum can take a new shape.

what do you all think about finding areas that are not really doing good and act on it. also give opinion on how you think new members can rather help in the forum.
6  Other / Beginners & Help / Terminology a powerful thread (Reshared) on: April 24, 2023, 07:33:48 PM
I stumbled found this topic, which I believe may be beneficial to other people, including my fellow newbies. Additionally, I think it need to be tagged for novices to read for a better comprehension of the content.
I also want to express my gratitude to everyone who contributed to the creation of that powerful thread, especially @Yogi.
