1  Bitcoin / Mining / Mining and Public Access on: May 03, 2024, 05:56:52 PM
So, if the miners receive bitcoins as their rewards after solving the puzzle, how do those bitcoins get into public circulation?
What I mean is how are we the public able to purchase these new bitcoins that are mined?  And what prevents the miners from hoarding them and deciding not to sell them?
2  Economy / Economics / Stagnant Salaries vs. Inflationary Savings Tax on: May 01, 2024, 06:49:31 PM
Which of these economic situations would you prefer to find yourself in?

A- Your salary is stagnant but prices fall. Where this happens, your real purchasing power has increased.  It's called constructive deflation. And even if your salary falls, but prices fall faster, you are still ahead.

B- Having your savings taxed 2%+ a year by inflation.

3  Economy / Gambling discussion / Can You Submit KYC Before You Win Big on: May 01, 2024, 04:56:35 PM
That is how gambling sites are. Most of them will not demand for KYC from you as long as you are losing, but if you win and want to withdraw some money, they will go through your account and tell you to do necessary things before you can withdraw and requesting for your identity through KYC can be among the requirements.

My topics originates from the comment of this user above in this thread where the OP is writing to seek about KYC stuff. The link to it will be at the end of the topic.

I know casinos do this. I have experienced it too. It is also in their T&C. My question for casino lovers is that instead of waiting until we win big and are asked to submit KYC documents, will you do it before the casino management or administrator request of it? Is there anyone who has gone ahead to fill out and submit their KYC on their account or by asking their customer support for it way before they even start make a request.

4  Bitcoin / Mining / Bitcoin Mining Opportunities in Tanzania on: April 27, 2024, 11:21:18 PM
Tanzania are shutting down five hydropower stations in order for them to manage the excess electricity that they are generating. The dam is producing more electricity than the whole country can consume. As a crypto enthusiast, I see an opportunity here. Hydropower is one of the renewable sources of energy that can be used for bitcoin mining.

I do not mine bitcoins but I know that there are many people in this thread are interested in mining. You may know a friend who lives in Tanzania or in a country close by and is interested in bitcoin mining you can pitch the idea to them or moving closer to the source and contacting the necessary authority to plug you to the hydro power grid to get power to mine your bitcoin. It is likely that it will be cheap since the demand is low.

The benefits are two folds, you are bringing in money into the country and you are making money with reduce cost on electricity.
5  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Federal Regulations vs. State Advocacy in the Bitcoin - A conflicting Stance on: April 27, 2024, 08:31:22 PM

There's a thread on this forum about Phoenix wallet announcement of not being to serve the US market going forward because of the feds. Pardon me but I am just paraphrasing. This makes me get the idea that the feds don't like Bitcoin and wouldn't want to see Bitcoin succeed in the US as it was meant to according to the creator.

However, what is conflicting for me is that while the feds are doing what they can against bitcoin, Ohio just introduced a bill aimed to protect fundamental bitcoin rights. While one is being anti-bitcoin which is what I believe, the other is being pro-bitcoin within the same country. How can this discrepancy be explained?

6  Economy / Gambling discussion / Blogs and Forums. Additional Features in Online Casinos on: April 25, 2024, 10:02:01 PM
There are online casinos that have a blog where their clients or potential clients can turn, to read gambling related articles without leaving the website. There are also online casino websites that have its own forum for their clients like a community interaction.

In addition, there are the ones that do not have any of these features. While  some of us may just want to sign up and start playing immediately, it is not so for others. Do you by chance consider these features when assessing and selecting which casinos to join and play on?
7  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / What's Next for Bitcoin Enthusiast on: April 20, 2024, 09:25:36 PM
Over the past year or so, we've been discussing and anticipating the Bitcoin Halving. We heard that after the Bitcoin halving comes the bull run. We've learned different strategies to accumulate Bitcoin in preparation for this event. As humans, we easily get bored if there is no goal in sight or task ahead of us. The Bitcoin halving was the goal in sight that motivated many Bitcoiners to accumulate Bitcoin. Now that the event has technically come and gone, what is the next big thing that we should look forward to? What are the next collective goals or tasks ahead of us to stay motivated?
8  Economy / Trading Discussion / The Illusion of Trading Success on: April 18, 2024, 11:12:56 AM
Many are teachers only few are traders. They make their money from selling trading courses, teaching trading classes, creating trading contents for YouTube and other social media. They have their own trading podcasts and collaborate with people like them to talk about trading yet, they have never been successful at trading.

You'll see them on Instagram or WhatsApp posting many signals, doing adverts for their VIP exclusive signal groups. Their appearance of wealth has nothing to do with their profits from trading and trading performance but from their courses sold and YouTube ads.

You ask yourself why don't they stop all these bs and just go back to real trading and you will immediately answer yourself that trading is hard work. It is easier to make reliable income streams from acting like a trader than actually in active trading where the market is volatile. It is easier to build a personal brand and audience in the short term than it is for achieving trading profits.

I do not like these people because, to me they are scammers. I have never seen anyone who follow them that eventually became a successful trader.

9  Economy / Gambling discussion / What do casinos do with inactive accounts? on: April 16, 2024, 04:23:42 PM
What do casinos do with inactive accounts? And what does inactivity mean - not logging in to your casino account or logging in say every two months without playing any game?

I also learned that there is something called a dormancy fee or maintenance charges on those inactive accounts which covers for administrative cost incurred by those accounts. I learned that the deduction is from the remaining balance in the account. What about inactive accounts without any balance? On the other hand, what type of fee is charged on an active account?

10  Economy / Gambling discussion / Gambling and Betting. Why the Distinction? on: April 10, 2024, 10:57:19 PM
I was today years old when I found out that if betting and gambling isn't exactly the same thing. If you Google the word betting most of the  results will be in regards to sports betting. Also Google the word gambling and you will see most results refer to casino games. In my own opinion whether we bet on the outcome of a sports event or we bet on games of luck and skill in the casino, they are both the same thing. Which is why I wonder why there is this distinction between the two? Why can't we say casino betting just as we say sports betting or sports gambling just as we refer to the casino when we talk about gambling? I know it sounds weird saying casino betting or sports gambling but what do you think about this?

12  Other / Beginners & Help / Post Bitcoin Halving - Rewards, And Risks on: April 05, 2024, 11:17:42 AM
2024 makes it another four years which the bitcoin halving happens. You already know what the halving is about. For newbies, the Bitcoin Halving is when Bitcoin's mining reward is split in half. And in the next 14days specifically, April 19th the halving will happen. Why the halving is so important to us is that with the reduction in the number of bitcoin in supply, there will be a price increase because there will be increase in the demand of bitcoin. This is what has always happened - halving preceded bull runs. Although, past performance may not guarantee future results, what we can tell from the moves of individual investors and institutional investors is that they are positioning themselves for potentially higher prices post-halving. I am not excluded.

If you have been holding bitcoin since say 2016, you will know that there is a bull run that follows after the halving and that it is a great opportunity to take profit and make a major purchase like getting something really nice for yourself. A reward for your patience. One area where some bitcoiners who take profit may spend their newfound wealth is in getting behind the wheel of their dream car.

Aside the nice watches, travels and vacation, nice condos, I know that the bitcoiners love automobiles a lot and they will flaunt it at the slightest opportunity. And I will be on the look out to see those pictures of beautiful sexy automobiles when bitcoin is able to reach a new all time high.  I even expect that some of these bitcoiners who are automobile enthusiast take things a step further by customizing their license plates with bitcoin-themed vanity plates.  Below, are some Bitcoin-themed vanity plate numbers I found on the internet. Please, kindly weigh the pros and cons before making a decision.

Pros
1. It looks cool and stands you out.
2.Other bitcoin enthusiasts and non-enthusiasts will most likely want to say hi and start up a conversation with you.
3. It simply lets other people know that I am a firm believer in bitcoin.
4. It increases my rep and recognition in the bitcoin community.

Cons
1. You get unwanted attention from the folks who pose as admirers but have ulterior motives.
2. No matter how cool it will look there are people who will think that you are into some shady business. Of course from those who have associated bitcoin with crime
3You may not be able to sleep well at night knowing that your care is already a target for theft because the bad people will think that there are bitcoins inside of it.

15  Other / Beginners & Help / My DIY Seed Storage on a soda can Inspired by Pmalek's Guide on: March 28, 2024, 11:31:04 AM
In the world of cryptocurrency, security is paramount, and bitcoiners are constantly exploring innovative ways to safeguard their assets. One such method gaining attention is the DIY seed storage technique using a soda can. Inspired by Pmalek guide DIY Seed Storage thread involving a soda can, I embarked on this cost-effective journey to add an extra layer of protection to their bitcoin assets. Note that I've already secured my seed phrase following fillippone guide that I discovered on the forum some time ago. Using the soda can method adds an extra layer of backup security. One can never be too cautious.

Thanks to Bitcan, carrying out this DIY storage method was incredibly easy and cost-effective. In fact, the entire setup cost me less than a dollar, especially since I already had some of the materials on hand.

The materials

  • A soda can (2 Cents)
  • A flat-head screwdriver (I already have this)
  • A pen (I already have this)
  • A piece of paper
  • Hammer (I used a short rod in place of a hammer. It did the job well)
  • A printer to print out the template.(I do not have home printer so I paid to print out. Cost 1 cent. )

*See the pictures below

The Process
  • Already have my generated mnemonic seed phrase from my software wallet.
  • I flatten an aluminum can into a sheet and then attached the printed template to it
  • I translated my seed phrase into glyphs and checked that it corresponded with the list provided by Bitcan.
  • With my flat-head screwdriver, I etched the glyphs into the can. I used a light rod in place of a hammer.
  • After I confirmed that everything is correct, I found a secure and discreet location to store the etched metal just as I did when I secured the seed phrase with washers.
  • I also printed the tables on the bitcan website and backed it up as was instructed

Below are a pictures of the process. I blurred some parts out for privacy.

.....................................

This method, while economical and DIY-friendly, does come with its limitations, as outlined by Pmalek:
Cons
1. It won't protect you against heat from a house fire.
2. Aluminum is more prone to corrosion than other more durable metals.
3. The encoding and especially the decoding process is time-consuming.
4. The possibility of making a mistake is greater than when backing up common seed words.
Despite these drawbacks, this DIY soda can seed storage serves as one of  my several backup strategies to safeguard my assets.

16  Other / Meta / Disabling Notification on Topic Tracking on Bitcointalk Supernotifier Bot on: March 27, 2024, 06:03:40 PM
I'm relatively new to using one of the forum's software tools, specifically the Bitcointalk Supernotifier bot. Recently, I began tracking a discussion on the gambling board and observed that I receive notifications for every new reply to that particular topic. However, I no longer wish to receive notifications for new replies on this topic. How can I disable this tracking topic feature?
17  Economy / Gambling discussion / Between Betting Exchanges and Sportsbooks Which has a Profit Potential? on: March 22, 2024, 08:25:02 PM
How does betting exchange work exactly? I learned that it is different from a sports book. I have looked through the gambling board I am yet to see anything like that. Between a betting exchange and a sportsbook, which of them guarantees that I will make a higher profit after a stake of no more than 3% of my bank which is my maximum risk?
18  Local / Politics and society (Naija) / Is Nigeria is redeemable? on: March 05, 2024, 09:51:33 AM
I am tempted to post up all the bad news that has been making the rounds in Nigeria but I will ignore. This very post is not about Buhari or Tinubu but about Nigeria as a whole because it touches each and every one of us. I want you to remove bias, prejudice and tribalism, ethnicity as you read and give your response to the question that follows the trending headline that flooded the Nigerian internet last week.

See the headline. You can read the investigative report if you have the time.
Ibrahim Egungbohun Dende, the biggest smuggler in southwestern Nigeria, recently threatened to kill an Assistant Superintendent of Customs (ASC) who stopped the smuggling of his goods from Benin Republic into Nigeria, FIJ can confirm.

Motorcycles used by bandits and insurgents to inflict terror on innocent civilians, as well as hard drugs, including tramadol, are among the goods being smuggled into northern Nigeria by the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), the agency that should be checking the crime.

Following repeated complaints about the porosity of Nigeria’s borders, investigative journalist ‘Fisayo Soyombo attempted to illegally import not one or two but 100 bags of rice from the Republic of Benin into Nigeria. He succeeded without the faintest security resistance, working with information from greedy Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) bosses who betrayed patrol teams by updating smugglers on their colleagues’ itinerary and the days and times when the roads were free, and daredevil smugglers with insider knowledge of the forests, the roads and Customs officers.
[/list]

There are many more from the other security agencies being involved in crime that they should be fighting. The question I want us to have a conversation about is - Is Nigeria redeemable?
19  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / If Someone Sends Funds to a Previously-Used Address, Will I Still Receive it? on: February 01, 2024, 02:30:01 PM
This is a question that is a bit confusing for me, and I thought to ask it here. We know how essential it is not to reuse addresses for the sake of privacy and security. The advice is to generate a new address for new transactions. But then here is the confusing aspect: if my wallet automatically generates a new address for each transaction, will the Bitcoin previously sent to me on a different address be transferred to the new address just generated? For example, if someone is going to send me funds to a previously-used address, will I still receive them? Where will they end up?
20  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Hardware Wallets, Open Sourcing, and Firmware on: December 11, 2023, 06:10:21 AM
I'm interested in understanding of hardware wallets, open sourcing, and firmware, especially from those technical guys here who are have more knowledge about it than myself. Through my readings, I have come to understand that open sourcing the code is beneficial but only a part of the overall solution. To verify that the firmware image aligns with the published code, one needs reproducible builds and the ability to manually scrutinize the installed firmware. If you are reading this, can you help me with a good explanation to assist me understand how to effectively carry out this verification and scrutiny process and any other thing I should know about this?
