There are stories about hackers that will hack your computer, steal your information, and then demand $500 or something...paid in Bitcoin.
We all know why Bitcoin would be use, the lack of trace-ability.
But sometimes the authorities are just suggesting to pay the ransom because they have no way to track the money or the person via the payment.
Isn't this worrisome? Have you heard of this in your area?

What needs to happen for the growth of bitcoin to be such that the price of your every day items is measured in satoshi, rather than bitcoin?
Do you think this will ever happen?

If you read some of the service discussion threads you'll find some complaints that Coinut is a bit late paying it's signature and avatar campaign payments.
Anyone who uses Coinut for options trading having trouble getting paid?
Maybe Coinut find itself on the wrong side of the bets during the last big BTC run up and pull back...could it be?

I'm looking for documentaries but any film is good to be aware of.
Let's hear it!

I just realized there are no Bitcoin documentaries on Netflix!
I was shocked.
If I am to recommend some Bitcoin docs for Netflix to make available, which docs would you recommend?

So I introduced the topic of Bitcoin last night with some colleagues I was having dinner with. I don't usually do this, it's hard to gauge what people's reaction will be. Of the 5 people I was talking to: - 1 person new of it although he had a lot of facts wrong
- 3 people listened, and
- 1 person asked skeptical questions and then concluded "I think I'll stick with my fiat"
Only 1 of 5 with immediate rejection of the idea is a pretty good result from my very scientific poll! The guy who was skeptical asked "what gives it value?" To which I just replied supply and demand. I didn't want to get into some debate about what gives fiat currency value (although maybe he should be educated on how money is created from nothing in fiat systems). Can each of you do us all a favor? This weekend, talk to at least 1 person about bitcoin. See if they're aware of it, accepting of the idea, or even using it.If we all talk about it it will slowly become less foreign. We'll educate people. We'll help push adoption!

A lot of the signature campaigns are claiming they're dropping rates do to one big week for Bitcoin. Will this cut in pay de-incentivize people from participating or posting for their signature campaign?
As for comments - what do you think about the drops in rates? Do you think campaign managers will offer rate increases when the BTC price settles?
Only in the world of Bitcoin can a boom in the economy result in lower pay!

I'm working in a major city tonight. I took a walk to get some food then headed back to the hotel. On my way back not one but two people asked me for money. The first, a woman, said "gimme a cigarette or some money!" The second, a man, said "got any change?"
I can't imagine what it's like to be homeless. I can think about what it would be like but I have no clue, not even close, what it must feel like to be homeless.
I can imagine what it's like to not have something, standing next to someone who does, someone I may need something from, and how I need to act to win that person over. It start's with respect and understanding for the position I have in the transaction.
To people begging for money every say please? They didn't to me tonight. Have they for you?
Am I just being an ass?

Who's interested in the US Presidential Democrat Candidates - there are so few that it's easy to keep track. - Hillary Clinton - the early favorite
- Bernie Sanders - the die hard liberal
- Joe Biden - the guy who's expected to run but currently hasn't announced intent
- A couple other guys - that no one knows or cares about
What's your prediction? I predict ol'Joe is going to swoop in an announce he's running and become the instant favorite. Not that he'd be the best choice but the "Ridin' with Biden" bumper stickers and hashtags are going to make for some great tweets! I'll be #RidinWithBiden to the kegger on Saturday!

How do we stop the growing conspiracy theory talk on this board?
Is anyone else annoyed with the wild claims and stories that have little fact or support that a few people have been posting on this board?
It takes away from the really good political conversations that exist here. It's such a waste of space and time. And a lot of times it's like spam there are so many threads.
Anyone with me?

http://www.coindesk.com/canadian-pension-funds-venture-arm-exploring-bitcoin-investments/I think we've started the phase of mainstream adoption - a pension fund in Canada has started considering Bitcoin as an investment. This is a huge deal. Pension funds don't invest in penny stocks, options, or generally speculative investments. If they're considering Bitcoin, they must believe there's some stability and longevity to the investment (pensions have to pay liabilities for decades!) Very interesting...

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2UC_8NdR1ToIf it's on the internet (and such an established library as YouTube) it must be true, right? The Watch Mojo YouTube channel has a Top 10 Bitcoin Facts video...#1 is priceless. Most of the list is legit but not incredibly interesting, a few highlights are: - #6 Mt. Gox was forced to file for bankruptcy - "Bitcoin is a currency that can lose up to 80% of its value in seconds" - so Mt. Gox was in very big trouble very quickly
- #5 Banning the Bitcoin (cue China flag) - "Bitcoin is outlawed in many countries around world and is heavily frowned upon by many others", i'll give you a moment to finish laughing....done? They then go on to say that countries with tough restrictions at first have soften their view; "Even the US flexed its monetary muscle by shutting down a physical bitcoin production company in 2013 (Casascius?)
- #3 Wikileaks - USES BITCOIN! (gasp), however there was no mention of all the very reputable, boring companies that also accept or use bitcoin
- #2 Silk Road - it had to be on the list somewhere
- #1 Satoshi Nakamoto (cue loads of video of the California guy that was wrongly accused of Satoshi) - "Nakamoto passed majority control to scientist Gavin Andresen in late 2010"; "It's rumored that Satoshi Nakamoto is a combination of SAmsung, TOSHIba, NAKAmichi, and MOTOrola, but it's not confirmed"
I guess Gavin's the heir apparent? Feel free to discuss...
