It seems plausible most of Ethereum's IPO came from Vitalik Buterin's father Dimitry Buterin, who is a multi-millionaire.  Coming from a father who is rich also allowed Vitalik the opportunity to edit the Bitcoin Magazine, without worrying about cost of living, and later to drop out of college to pursue a startup like Ethereum.

The leading alternates are all controlled opposition.  They are either made to look bad, have irrecoverable disasters or to be jokes and by doing so this deflects people from discovering real competitors like NXT.

Imagine you are someone new to Bitcoin and just found out about alternates.
You are told the number 2 coin is a clone of Bitcoin and the number 3 coin was another clone of Bitcoin but with a big fat yellow dog on the label: this was cryptocurrency between 2013 and 2014.  The end result is you think alternates are pretty dumb and stay away or do not bother investigating it more.  

This is pure pyschological warfare
it is very successful and it is the reason why Bitcoin remains unchallenged.  The generalized and first impressions of alternates based on Litecoin and Doge is what keeps people away from alternates, ignorant about the real competition and keeps Bitcoin safe!  This is controlled opposition tactics and it works well in many applications, especially in politics, and it works here in crypto too.
 

Today we have this false dichotomy of Dash.
If you think something which would enable more criminality, especially pedophilia and terrorism, would make it more susceptible to mainstream adoption then you are a... *insert epileptic*

✓ Do they have the presence of early Bitcoin adopters pushing them?
✓ Does Cryptomedia, especially CoinDesk, hold a bias in favor of them?
✓ Do they lack innovation (or deliverance?)

Fact of the matter is Bitcointalk reigns supreme in the Crypto World.   Yet many alternates make a policy of ignoring this website, preferring to hide on their own corners of the internet (Ethereum, Bitshares and others).

Fact of the matter is Bitcointalk has the most traffic in the Crypto world.  If you want your coin to be known among this small niche, then it must be publicized on here.  Most of the cryptonews sites are big laughing jokes as no one is really reading them.  Cointelegraph recently displayed their read count and most of their articles only get reads in the 100s.  Coindesk isn't doing much better.

Peter Todd and Jeff Garzik have been trolling alternates.  What is the reason?  Are they concerned for their precious Bitcoin baby?

Utoken has been out for years and collected up to $310 million prior to those arrests.  It is still operating today and getting more money and more investors.

This link alleges the market capitalization is approximately $900 million (bigger than Ripple and Litecoin together) and yet it isn't listed on coinmarketcap or coingecko.

Disclaimer:  Not an investor in uToken and admittedly know little about them, beyond the articles about the arrests and some Google I did minutes ago.  How is it the biggest alternate is rarely talked about?  Is it because it is only exists in South East Asia and isn't known in the english speaking world?
