2  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / Mining rig with wood? on: April 05, 2012, 07:17:02 PM
Building my next rig right now. Just got the parts for a 3rd rig a couple of minutes ago.

I only have 2 PC cases, so this third rig will need to rest on top of something. Will a 2'x2' piece of plywood be ok? Can the motherboard rest right on top of wood without any issues?
3  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / How do you start a computer without the Case power button? on: April 03, 2012, 12:02:45 AM
So I grabbed an MSi K9A2 CF v2 for $45, and bought a CPU on newegg for $20. I have a power supply on it's way as well. I will be running (3) 5830's on this rig. Although I ran into a slight problem... How the heck do you start a Motherboard without the Case's Power/Restart button? I assume I would have to hot wire those little JFP1/2 pins to start the computer up. Would I need any resistors, diodes, etc? Or would simply connecting two pins together with a small wire work?
4  Other / Off-topic / Poll: Your opinion on miners on: April 02, 2012, 05:23:14 PM
I am still fairly new to this forum. But to my surprise, it looks like more than half of you don't mine. I was thinking maybe about 70-80% of you guys don't mine at all. So that leaves a fairly small amount of us actually mining. With that said, what's your opinion on miners?

Do they play a large role in the value of the Bitcoin? Are they greedy bastards just trying to make money? Are they liked at all in the Bitcoin community?
5  Economy / Speculation / April 20th on: April 02, 2012, 01:58:16 AM
Before I start, I would like to clearly state that I know nothing about Economics.

Alright so with April 20th coming up (420), I assume business on the Silk Road is going to be a little more then usual. So I'd imagine that soon people are going to be buying up some BTC and get their 420 orders in. Just guessing here. So with that said, will this drive the value of the Bitcoin up/down in the coming weeks? I am a miner, so should I start saving up my bitcoins, and sell them in a few weeks? Or do you think 4/20/12 will even have an effect on the Bitcoin?

Thoughts?

6  Economy / Goods / ~~~Selling (2) Two Assassin's Creed: Relevations Coupons~~~ on: March 26, 2012, 09:40:28 PM
Steam just gave me three 50% off coupons for the newest Assasin's Creed game "Revelations". They are only good until April 1st (about a week). I'll be using one of them, since $25 instead of $50 sounds like a pretty good deal. Anyway, the other two are yours for 0.5BTC each. Or best offer if I can't sell them.

#1 Steam 50% off Assassin's Creed: Relevations - 0.5BTC (Or Best Offer)
#2 Steam 50% off Assassin's Creed: Relevations - 0.5BTC (Or Best Offer)

I am completely new to selling here, so send me a PM or something if you are interested.

>inb4 This is a new seller, don't trust him
Do people actually sell their reputation away for a half a bitcoin?

7  Bitcoin / Mining software (miners) / BAMT Issues on: March 24, 2012, 05:27:56 PM
First issue,
This should be a fairly easy question to answer: What is the command to identify which GPU in BAMT is which?
For instance, I have two 5830s. One is a Sapphire, the other an XFX. Now how do I know which is gpu0, and gpu1?

Second issue,
I don't seem to be able to reset the root password using the "passwd" command. I wanted to use Putty to connect to my rig, but it keeps denying access (root@192.168.1.5 Password: changeme). So I've been trying to reset the password, and it won't let me... Embarrassed

Help please? I will pay whoever gives me a working solution for either problem.
8  Other / Beginners & Help / Stock/Default Voltage on a 5830 on: March 20, 2012, 05:23:38 AM
I have been trying to find an answer to this for awhile.
What is the default voltage for a 5830? Sapphire to be more precise, but not sure if that matters. I see everyone always listing what they bumped the voltage up to, but not what the original stock voltage was. Anyway help would be great. Thanks!
9  Other / Beginners & Help / Power Supply Failure on: March 18, 2012, 06:02:17 PM
So I had a cheap Senty 500watt powering my two overclocked 5830s. It died after an hour or so. So I am in the market for a new Power supply that will handle two 5830s. I figure each one take about 200 watts, plus another 80-100watts for the CPU, RAM, and Motherboard. Thought a single +12V rail 600watt should do the trick. I was looking at this one for $60 on Newegg: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817182200

It has one 6pin, and one 6+2pin. That will be enough for one of my 5830s, so can I use my Molex/6pin converter cables that came with my other 5830 to power it? Or would I end up blowing something out again? Also is Rosewill any good? (they are owned by newegg)
