24  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Giving BTC / LTC as temporary security for slower ALTs on: May 20, 2013, 02:02:45 PM
This post
https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=203647.msg2210023#msg2210023
sparked an idea - What if an exchange let you trade with coins that you haven't deposited yet, by giving the exchange something else of equal or greater value, temporarily.

Example, you want to deposit 10 SlowConfCoins (tm) to sell for USD as soon as possible, so the exchange lets you first deposit 10 LTC as security while the slower coin gets confirmed.

You can then trade SlowConf for USD on the markets immediately, and then when your actual deposit gets fully confirmed you are refunded your LTC security (or have the option to just add it to your LTC balance).

In fact, if you already held a balance of BTC on the exchange, they could do a quick db-based transaction pulling a certain amount of BTC aside as security instantly, while the SlowConf comes in, and then unfreeze that BTC once your alt deposit is fully confirmed.

26  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Auto-generating volume in low-volume markets. on: May 06, 2013, 02:16:43 AM
I was just thinking about how order books work and was considering how more obscure markets (eg. LTC/NMC) might be handy if volume on them could be made high enough to be useful.

Consider the following scenario:

User A:
Offering 1 XXX for 1 YYY      XXX/YYY

User B:
Offering 1 YYY for 1 XXX      YYY/XXX

In a normal order book, these two orders would balance each other and both get triggered and settled.

Now consider the following scenario:

User A:
Offering 1 XXX for 1 YYY      XXX/YYY

User B:
Offering 1 YYY for 1 ZZZ      YYY/ZZZ

User C:
Offering 1 ZZZ for 1 XXX      ZZZ/XXX

In a traditional exchange engine, none of the above orders would get triggered, despite the fact that everyone's desired currency and amount is on the table. A better system would allow this kind of situation to be triggered and settled for all three participants.

If we think of the above as BTC, LTC, NMC (and keep the inter-currency exchange rates at 1:1 to make the maths easier), then indeed the choice most exchanges seem to make, is to not offer a LTC/NMC market at all, and only let users choose BTC/LTC or BTC/NMC. If a user wants to change LTC to NMC, he has to go via BTC.

Even if an exchange makes an 'obscure' market available, lack of volume in that market (eg an LTC/NMC market) could make using it impractical anyway, and force users into doing two trades (via BTC) just because those two main markets have more volume.

What I propose, is a system where volume for the smaller market is automatically generated from orders in the first two, and orders in it are dynamically connected to the orders in the higher volume markets.

For example, consider again:

User A:
Offering 1 XXX for 1 YYY      XXX/YYY

User B:
Offering 1 YYY for 1 ZZZ      YYY/ZZZ

User C:
Offering 1 ZZZ for 1 XXX      ZZZ/XXX

Now, these would normally stay untriggered, but what if upon the first two orders coming in, the system automatically created a 'ghost' order:

System:
Offering 1 XXX for 1 ZZZ

This would not only satisfy User C's order when it came in, but would then have to be automatically connected to the original two orders in order to settle all three.

User A --> 1 XXX --> User C --> 1 ZZZ --> User B --> 1 YYY --> User A

The specific logic for this is yet to be worked out and obviously this will be incredibly more complicated when we take different rates and different order amounts into consideration, not to mention partial orders will need to work too.

Please discuss Smiley

UPDATE 2013-04-24:

Some balances are currently being reported as lower than it should be, or even negative; Don't Panic! This is a direct consequence of the feathercoin blockexplorer going down for maintenance, and things should return to normal once that's back again. Meanwhile I will think about a redesign that is less susceptible to this happening in future.

Balances currently being reported are [Real balance minus coins deposited].

UPDATE 2013-04-24 #2:

The block explorer is back online, and balances are showing correctly again.

32  Bitcoin / Project Development / Android developer wanted on: April 03, 2013, 02:10:44 PM
I'm currently looking for someone to write an Android app, which will feature:

Client/Server communication
User login or some system to permanently link your app to a web-based account.
Some fairly simple graphics

If you think you might be suitable for this work,  please get in touch.

Note: The server has not yet been written either, so you will work alongside other developers (possibly me) who are doing the server-side code while you do the app side of things.
33  Economy / Service Discussion / MtGox bitcoin deposit delay? on: April 03, 2013, 12:41:10 PM
Is anyone else having trouble depositing bitcoins to Mt Gox right now? My deposit has over 14 confirmations and still doesn't show in my account.

On their blog, they wrote about a similar issue on March 20 and it's marked as RESOLVED yet it seems this is the same issue as that day.

How long did it take them to resolve the issue when it occurred on March 20?

35  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / [ANN] The Litecoin Directory on: March 25, 2013, 06:13:43 PM
After going through several people already, The Litecoin Directory is finally up and running:

http://directory.litecoinland.com

I'm totally new to Wordpress though, so I'd really appreciate some feedback on it. The "Near" functionality will likely be removed, as will the physical addresses off the listings, since most listing will probably just be online websites with no physical address.
36  Bitcoin / Project Development / [SOLVED] mod_rewrite / codeigniter / wildcard subdomains on: March 25, 2013, 01:37:59 PM
I have been searching for hours for the correct solution to this unsuccessfully so hopefully someone here might be able to help.

FOR 2 BTC Update: Bounty withdrawn, got it working. If anyone needs to know about this stuff just ask me because after tonight's effort I'm like some kind of expert on it now. Sometimes the quickest way to solve something is to clearly lay out a question for someone else.

I need to be able to have separate, 100% fully working codeigniter installations on wildcarded subdomains.

Example:

Code:
http://www.domain.com -> reads from /var/www/domain.com/public_html/index.php
http://abc.domain.com -> reads from /var/www/domain.com/sub/abc/index.php
http://xyz.domain.com -> reads from /var/www/domain.com/sub/xyz/index.php
http://*.domain.com -> reads from /var/www/domain.com/sub/*/index.php

  • Sites must be able to be 100% separate codeigniter installations.
  • Sites must work with codeigniter's mod_rewrite rules to remove 'index.php' from urls.
  • Sites must correctly load controllers, eg http://abc.domain.com/faq should load domain.com/sub/abc/application/controllers/faq.php

Virtual hosts have been set up as follows:

Code:
<VirtualHost x.x.x.x:80>
DocumentRoot /var/www/domain.com/public_html
ServerName domain.com
ServerAlias www.domain.com
</VirtualHost>

<VirtualHost x.x.x.x:80>
DocumentRoot /var/www/domain.com/sub
ServerAlias *.domain.com
</VirtualHost>

I've tried putting this under /var/www/domain.com/sub/.htaccess:

Code:
RewriteEngine On

RewriteCond %{HTTP_HOST} ^([^\.]+)\.domain\.com
RewriteCond /var/www/domain.com/sub/%1 -d
RewriteCond %{ENV:REDIRECT_STATUS}  =""
RewriteRule ^(.*)$ /%1/$1 [L]

RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-f
RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-d
RewriteRule ^(.*)$ index.php?/$1 [L]

The first part correctly redirects to the correct website depending on the subdomain used, but the second part (which codeignieter needs to remove the 'index.php' from urls and to find the controllers, does not work here.

I'm not interested in hardcoded solutions. Do not write literal strings such as 'abc' or 'xyz' anywhere. Also would rather not get into custom routing in the individual applications. (Unless it's just a 1 or 2 line regex sort of deal).

Nowhere I've looked on the web matches my situation exactly, but here's some stuff I've read:

http://snipplr.com/view/18613/
http://codeblow.com/questions/codeigniter-and-rewriterule-problem/
http://www.codepursuit.com/?p=178
http://ellislab.com/forums/viewthread/89424/

Ideally, someone will be able to figure all this out on their local machine and make a zip of the entire thing for me.

Thanks for reading.
37  Bitcoin / Project Development / Dear psd2html.com, please accept bitcoin. on: March 25, 2013, 02:03:01 AM
Does anyone know of any professional service like psd2html.com that accepts bitcoins? From what I can tell, there are quite a few site developers on this forum who could probably make use of such a service.

This is in their FAQ (from http://www.psd2html.com/faq.html):

Quote
What kind of payments do you accept?
PSD2HTMLŽ offers various methods of payment:
Pay directly with your credit card on our site. We accept the following cards: VISA, MasterCard, AMEX and DISCOVER.
Pay using your credit card via the Google Wallet service.
Pay using your PayPal account, if you have one.
*Please let us know if you are unable to use any of the above mentioned payment methods.

Bitcoin payments in this industry would be extremely handy.

40  Economy / Digital goods / [WTB] Your bitcoin website on: March 20, 2013, 04:25:44 AM
I (for myself and on behalf of others) am looking to purchase some already established bitcoin websites.

Update: I am not interested in buying domains with no content, up-and-running websites only!

Not looking to buy anything like Mt Gox, but simple less known sites that are already up and running. eg. bitbears.com is an example of a small site that is up and running and established. Of course bitcoindifficulty.com would be another example.

The main things I'll be looking for are the following (but don't worry if you website doesn't have all these points):

Current direct earnings
Potential future earnings
Current traffic
Potential future traffic
Nice domain name
Nice website design and graphics

So if you've been thinking about selling your small bitcoin related site PM me or post a message here. Thanks.
