Here it is finally.  This batch now has the ability to be updated remotely.  Designed in Windows 10.  Should work on Vista or later builds that have Powershell version >= 2.0.

I've hit a few speed bumps along the way but have finally been able to get a version that I can finally release that works as I expect it to.

Currently it's almost identical in function to the original manual farm control batch except for a few key points:

The miner package now has a name (mminer), and comes with all associated miner apps that I am presently using with it.
The batch can now update itself to a newly released version of the code; as well as download any needed/necessary miner applications required for the new updated version.
The batch now stores it's key variables in text files for ease of configuration and the ability to update the batch itself.


Please view README.txt in the application folder for more descriptions on the modifiable variables.


Future plans:
1) Incorporate the automatic algo switching functions into this batch.  So if for instance you would set your requested algo to be "auto", the miner would do the regular stratum controlled mining like my original automatic batch file does.   This is going to happen, but not started as of yet.
2) Add static variable for update URL for easier end-user updates; as well as disabling the update feature.
3) Get the project onto github for ease of file distribution as well as peace of mind.   My old tripod URL will only handle soo much traffic, and I know the second I have to upload a 30+Mb file to pass onto who knows how many miners;  things could get ugly quick.  I have not 100% fully tested a lack of internet connection to the miner, or lost connection at different times of the script running aside from updating.  Trying to figure out a reasonable amount of retires before starting over or simply bypassing the update features.
4) Add AMD Rx card support (Big thanks to phil for making this possible)
5) Combine all app variables into a single text file
6) Create auto-normalization script to only be run once;  This will only be for the automatic miner batch once its incorporated.  I am still considering making a template for each generation of card.  Looking for more user input on this.  My initial thoughts are to have the batch retrieve the hashrate results in a way that a 'grep' works in linux.  Currently researching Windows alternatives.


As always, I am always willing to update to a newer and better miner app;  just please provide me with a download link and the information about it (why its better, etc).   If it seems like the right route to go, I will incorporate it into an update to mminer after I get it tested for stability at least on one of my machines.

02/18/2018: Some ccminer variants included are not playing well with the new release of windows 10, or the new nvidia drivers.   I am seeking more versatile replacements for these apps.  Specifically ccminer180.exe.  In my next update, it will probably be superseded by ccminerxevan.exe as it has been working for me.

So;  I have finally finished the second phase of hardware setup for using a cellular WWAN card in any windows 10 or Ubuntu/Debian machine.

My current endeavors have lead me to have a solution for configuring these two modems:

Gobi2000 (2G/3G/'4G')
Gobi5000 (Sierra EM7355 LTE)

It was quite a mess getting to the point of where they worked;  even as much as the sellers of the M.2 NGFF to USB adaptors telling me the 7355 isn't compatible.... yet it works now.  finally.

My whole thing was being able to have my cellular internet connection via USB.... not stuck to one particular machine like a laptop.  I have a Dell Precision R5500 that I would like to take over the job of being my local node.  I still use the lenovo for now;  but I have it's gobi2000 in a USB enclosure and remote up to where signal is better.... and im not quite done setting up that rack cabinet.  I still need to add filtered vents, a grommeted power cord port, extra power distribution, etc.

If there's an interest over the cellular on USB thing.... Ill write up a list of steps to get it all installed.  I myself was using a lenovo thinkpad as the test machine, and used the lenovo hardware ID for the EM7355 so I could just use the easy to get lenovo driver.  I am sure its as simple as figuring out which hardware ID's are for the generic sierra device so you can use the generic driver if you wish.

To sum up:
The Gobi2000 is pretty painless to get set up compared to the Gobi5000/EM7355.

For the Gobi2000 on linux;  you just need to install wine1.3 or greater, a networkmanager patch, and install the windows gobiinstaller.msi file using wine.  Patch over [and select] the modem firmware in the terminal, and you are done.  For windows 10;  you need the lenovo driver (if you have the lenovo device) and manually install in windows 7 before upgrading to 10.  This is necessary for enabling the radio on the device be default.

For linux with the EM7355, you need to install networkmanager 1.6 (or install Ubuntu 16.10, which I believe comes with networkmanager 1.6).  Networkmanager1.6 has the ability to send the "on" packet to the wireless radio.  You also have to assign the proper hardwareID for the device if you wish to use it in windows, by sending it AT commands... but to do that, you need to use a special utility to send it commands and enable the different system device ports/options such as the com port on it.

Mine was originally from an HP;  but it now has Lenovo hardwareID's.

I have been absent for a while... trying to make ends meet and do a lot of my own side projects.

Among a few things I have yet to reveal (big thanks still to a local member here);  I just received these fine populated cases a few days ago from my friend who runs an A/V company...  he just wanted the space.

They both contain Digital Video Systems portable 16 channel video recorder/controller.....  Think events and jumbotrons, record, playback......... that about sums it up.

Both cases each had/have a system.   One was spare for parts (misc parts disconnected but 99% there), and the other was 100% connected and functioning....  Both still had the 8 drive SCSI raid arrays in them.   Massive beasts that sound like jet engines when you power up the main machine.  I plan to play with these a little more......  mighty cool tech for its day.

I have already stripped down one case to bare and begun configuring it to be a portable miner satellite unit.   100% self contained aside from power (unless I decide to build in a small generator).

I still need to source some more modules such as a rackmount hub, and some other odds and ends.

So far I plan to have this first one at home; and its constituents so far are:
Dell R5400 (WWAN router and acting router;  I plan to populate with probably 3x 960)
Rosewell "rackminer #1": A X58 i7-920 based watercooled system.  Good for 3-4 GPU.
"Oldskool GPU #1":  Another X58 i7-920 based watercooled system.  Good for 2-3 GPU (less airflow in case, was repurposed from the DVS Pentium2 board)

I have several machines in the works built from my scrap pile of parts....  I still have another DVS system I can dismantle to build another 2-3 gpu system for the case.

The second case will probably go right towards my first system I plan to build once I apply for a loan

Even in this down market;  I have a plan and a strategy that in my mind... can't fail.  It will only fail if the hardware itself becomes obsolete too quickly.... and with the way the Vega is looking;  looks like I am going to be ok for a while.

This video card has served me well over the past year.   Bought it new from Frys;  and played games on it just about every day until I picked up a 1070.

All the inbetween time, it has been mining as well.

Never overclocked, always remained at the factory settings (factory OC edition).

Re-pasted the heatsync about 4 months ago.

Presently it's installed in one of my 2 card miners that I keep in my RV at the ranch;  when sold, I will remove from the miner, clean up any dust, and package it in the OEM box as it originally came.  I am clearing out my 9 series cards to make room here for some 1080ti's that have been purchased by a customer I host for.... I'll make more $$$ by populating the slots with his cards and taking my percentage split; so these cards regrettably must go.

Shipping will most-likely be USPS.  It has been (historically) the most reliable for me.

K guys.... finally got it working.... well, finally got around to properly testing it.

My buddy Tiger was able to get a good deal on these power supplies, and they are 100-140/180-250v compatible.  He left me a free sample to play with.  I see them on ebay for as low as $40 shipped OBO.

In 220V mode they supply 1400W(116A of +12V)

Looking at the top of the edge connector in the back, the large rail on the right is +12V.  The large rail on the right underside is GND.

If you bridge GND to the pin on the left edge connector that is "cut short" at the end (it stands out from ALL the rest, trust me)...  It will power on the +12V rail.

I think ill be using these on my personal miners from now on.

I am having trouble sourcing board-edge connectors (like block erupters I think, but with small pin spacing) to make an adaptor card to plug into this supply.   I could just hack some PCIE cables and whatnot and solder to the edge connector, but I'd like something that takes a little less time to assemble.  If I had to compare this card edge connector to anything, it's closest to looking like a PCIE slot.  It's a 44 pin double sided connector.


Any thoughts?

I have had a personal internet issue;  My main location is out in the boonies, which only allows for cellular high speed.  Next choice was satellite, which is plainly never gonna happen....  So, cellular it is.

Now, it works all fine and dandy, but when the area gets flooded with traffic (interstate backed up for instance), the connection seems to timeout and stay unresponsive until I disconnect, then reconnect the cellular adaptor from the cellular data network.  Which, in-turn, requires me to disconnect my VPN service (openVPN) before and reconnect it after the cellular disconnect as well.

Over time this has pointed me towards problems with connection handling at my local node.    So;  how did I remedy this?  Same as everything else in my life.....  a batch file.  If I were working for the cellular provider;  I'd fix the actual problem.  Till it's fixed, I have this.

BETA TEST VERSION Re-arranged some things.  Changed disconnect/reconnect as to require only one file for the whole batch.  Now there is a powershell script for people with openVPN that properly and cleanly shuts down the connection and application.  This is for inactive systems;  as there is a "foreground sent" enter key by the powershell script to close a dialogue.  The powershell script can be omitted, and your own VPN string inserted in place if you don't use openVPN (see a post comment just a few below the top post for an example).  So far tested on Win7 x64 and Win 10 x64.

To create these files, open a command prompt window with admin rights,  go to the root of "C:\" , and type "notepad netWatch.bat".  When notepad loads it will tell you that the file is not found and ask if you want to create it.... this is how.   Be sure you do not save it as a text file.

To run netWatch.bat, and netReset.bat, you need admin privileges.  
You must create a .lnk to a random file;  and point that new .lnk at the batch file "netWatch.bat", and in "Advanced options" check the box to have it "Run as Administrator".  There is no way to run this powershell command without admin priv.

Use this new .lnk to run netWatch.bat

I had several crazy issues I can not explain, which required me to run the batch in a very strange way (one batch triggering another) because when it would reach the end of the loop (after using powershell), powershell didn't seem to ever close cleanly and it would leave me back at a prompt;  instead of looping to the start of the code.   Thus the reason it looks like that.  All good, it works still.

To configure this for your adaptor, and visit the "Network: Change Adaptor Settings" window that lists the active and inactive network adaptors.   Give it a custom name now or use the current one, just know it's exact name.  
Mine in the batch is "Cellular".  
Sometimes it's "Ethernet 2", "Wireless" etc....

if you don't use openVPN... I suggest commenting out those lines via adding "REM " in front of those lines in netReset.bat or removing them.  I can help you if necessary.

You can see how the primary batch pings multiple different locations, and if there's a valid response along the way, it starts over and waits to check again.
You can use your own choices for IP addresses/domain names.

All in all, this should be a pretty clean template for making a network adaptor reset tool.   It is sooooooo nice that my machine automatically fixes itself now when I am not home.    It has worked and done its job several times already...    I think times need to be lengthened... but there's some very strange behavior when my network adaptor needs reset.  sometimes one miner stays online; but I can't visit any webpages on it or use the internet on any other machine.... very strange stuff;  or no ping response yet it can still query DNS for the IP to ping....(and all DNS caching is removed on my entire network chain so its definitely not cached).  Its been a pain; but doesn't happen often.... usually...

These are AWESOME cases.   Hands down, best bang for the buck.   Tomorrow I am installing my home/Gaming PC into one of these cases.   You can actually properly manage airflow, compared to a typical CPU case.

My comments about building a miner into the case:
*For the novice/intermediate id suggest sourcing the GPU rack a member here sells.  Eyeballing it all, is a PITA especially when only using hand tools (hacksaw, drill, riveter, etc)
*You have to cut and modify the front assembly that's removed initially (to fit the video cards) to be able to use the front fans the case comes with.  *When I finish modifying this one, I'll post up photos of how I did it using all the OEM case hardware/components and still fit the GPU assembly.
*Be sure to properly insulate and stand-off the risers.  I learned the lesson by riveting them directly to the support bracket.  Shorts to ground suck for diagnosing.
*Always, ALWAYS, install the first card, and get it fully running and hashing;  then add a second, and so-on.  Don't try to do them all at once.  This is doubly so for GPU setups over 2 cards.  You get less driver issues.
*You can't use the intermediate set of fans in the case with larger/longer GPU and power supplies.  The shorter cards (single fan nvidia, or RX series cards) seem to be able to fit behind it.
*It's easy to attach hardware to the casing like rails to screw the GPU's to, just use rivets if you don't need to countersink the bolts for a tight-fitting rack.


After it was up and hashing;  holy crap.  The 1080's put out a LOT of heat.  They began to thermally regulate pretty quick.  The casing needs more airflow (I am working on the fans for the front now) and it's currently running as an open rig.... plus, its not in the data center yet.

For instance, this PC has a 215w power supply, yet it houses a GTX980 and hosts a GTX960SSC as well =)  Luckily the temporary 1600w power supply was tall enough to let the PCIE riser just baaaaaarely reach.  Previously it was able to (surprisingly) host the GTX960SSC all by itself; while now the 1600w supply is supplying solely PCIE-plug power on both cards.  

I am amazed the OEM power supply didn't melt after running the 960 solid for months.

So my frined;  long story short, had his miner shipped to the states after being neglected in china.  They lost the free power at it's location, so it just sat there for quite some time.

Got rust damage;  magic smoke came from the USB hub/fan controller that's inside the machine (can be seen in photo), but it still powers the fans.  The power supply in it did nothing;  I strung PCIE lines from my home PC for testing.

The pi had it's SD card slot smashed off in transit.  Soldered it on;  figured out the IP, and was able to reconfigure for zpool.  Tested one hashboard, then magic smoke from the USB controller on the pi....  so I am waiting on a replacement from that... at least the ROM and the one hashboard are known good so far.  Two hashboards' USB ports were torn from the PCB;  one lifted traces, the other is missing a little bit of trace... this will be hard as sin to replace with just an iron; Id probably need a heat gun....

The hashboards have the ID: LK-L55-1 REV1.1, and one hashboard was ~7-8Mh.  There are four total in this machine.

With one hashboard hashing, The wattage for the one board was hovering between 210 and 260w (reasonable, I am assuming the unlabeled power supply is 1200w rating).  I wish I could have had a second hashboard hooked up to test to be sure it's truly that number.

I went to test the hashboards with cgminer on my PC, but no ports that I have will recognise the ASICS... so.... yeah.  (yes, I zadig'd the drivers)

What it boils down to right now is:
Anyone know what make and model this miner is?  Also the build of cgminer that will run these hashboards so I can continue my diag on the unit using a PC instead of the pi that no longer functions?  I am going to try and read the SD card and create a copy of it onto a microsd and pop it into a RPI3 I have... maybe that will be my only option... but the community hasn't failed me yet.

So I am working on an upgrade idea for my GPU miner's batch file.

There has to be a way to check if an app is running through the terminal window and use it with logic in a batch file.

such as:

:beginfile
start ccminer.exe --options
:memoryloop
<check for ccminer.exe in memory>
  true, wait x time and goto memoryloop
  false, goto beginfile


Any ideas guys?   Probably going to have to define a variable for the true/false?

I never learned the advanced windows-connected DOS commands...

Why not halve the reward and produce blocks twice as fast instead?

How would this effect the ecosystem aside from having a slight amount more data waste per block than with a larger block (header vs block data ratio)?

I don't see this hurting the ecosystem or the miners......   In fact, speeding up coins helps miners with averaging and consistency in payout times.

I got my hands on one of these as a test sample.   My friend says he has access to a LOT of them I believe.

I was wondering others' thoughts on this new model.  At the ever dropping but currently 1.386BTC cost... its a tempting purchase.

I understand they are trying to cut costs... but...

I think the single fan is a bad idea.   I rely on the fans on either side to attach ducting and for it to handle the fact I have ducting to and from the miner on both ends.

I think the open outlet is going to be creating an issue for people without passive cooling in the room/space.   Presently my 5X7 room I have my S7's in do not get above 78*f on hot days with the miners closed in there..    Having to manufacture a new outlet housing or gut an old fan body to make an appropriate ducting attachment.... is going to be annoying.

Any opinions on running the fan solely as a puller fan, and not a pusher (oriented to the miner)?   This would 1/2 solve my issues;  because its easier to manage the heat through the exhausting;  not as much as it is to duct cold air into the fronts.

My Antminer S3 is doing some strange things to me recently.

It randomly goes "offline" and when I log into the web interface it shows that the asic boards disconnected in the logs.

If I reboot the whole machine, it starts working fine.  Happened twice today.  once noticed when I woke, and the next when I came back home recently.

It has a Thermaltake 750W power supply (plenty of 12V wattage for the S3) and I haven't really had any issues other than only one asic chip showing as an X when the system gets over 44C on a hot day. (I will be re-thermal pasting them as when I opened it originally there were signs of paste on the heatsyncs that was smeared around almost like a spill or careless application)

Has anyone else seen this type of behavior?   It acts like it cant connect to a pool but the network interface is up, and my internet is connected...   Its as if cgminer on the antminer isn't launching because of the asic boards being reported as disconnected in the system.

Maybe its just a thermal paste issue.....   Its gone weeks at 250M with no issues at all other than the random X on a hot day.

Typical temps are 28-39C when cool, and 40-44C when it gets hot inside.

Does anyone know of a cgminer fork or option to make the app spit out every hash it generates?

I'm looking for the same thing as the "Accepted share" output, but something that puts each hash line by line...

I know it seems pointless;  but it was worth asking.

There is a stupid simple way to not destroy bitcoin's value and cause forks and still allow for wiggle room when it comes to blocksize:

For smaller faster transactions;  just use a frikken altcoin thats based around speed....
