61  Bitcoin / Legal / [Alert] U.S. to let spy agencies scour Americans' finances on: March 14, 2013, 05:28:50 AM
Reuters - "The Obama administration is drawing up plans to give all U.S. spy agencies full access to a massive database that contains financial data on American citizens and others who bank in the country, according to a Treasury Department document seen by Reuters.

The proposed plan represents a major step by U.S. intelligence agencies to spot and track down terrorist networks and crime syndicates by bringing together financial databanks, criminal records and military intelligence. The plan, which legal experts say is permissible under U.S. law, is nonetheless likely to trigger intense criticism from privacy advocates."

62  Other / Meta / [Request] Scammer tags or account locking for supposed ASIC startups? Options? on: March 05, 2013, 08:37:18 PM
I am not sure what should happen, some prescriptions are in the title, but I think it is clear we have some people trying to get pre-order money for new ASICs that just came out of no where but with terms that would make you "have" to trust them without much recourse.  Also, no pictures of actually units or proof of working chips.  They are all Junior accounts as well.   Please look into this.  Here are some links below:

64  Other / Politics & Society / Food for Thought: Nature of Justice & Why nations were formed on: January 15, 2013, 04:57:02 PM
The Nature and Origin of Justice (Quote by Plato):

"They say that to do injustice is, by nature, good; to suffer injustice evil; but that the evil is greater than the good.  And so when men have both done and suffered injustice and have had experience of both, not being able to avoid the one and obtain the other, they think that they better agree among themselves to have neither;  hence there arise laws and mutual covenants; and that which is ordained by law is termed by them lawful and just.   This they affirm to be the origin and nature of justice;--it is a mean or compromise, between the best of all, which is to do injustice and not be punished, and the worst of all, which is to suffer injustice without the power of retaliation; and justice, being the middle point between the two, is tolerated not as a good, but as the lesser evil, and honored by reason of the inability of men to do injustice.  For no man who is worthy of being called a man would ever submit to such an agreement if he were able to resist; he would be mad if he did."

Note:  Maybe, just maybe, this is why we decided to form nations.  And just maybe there was a time where men did volunteer to adhere to those laws & justice.  Just maybe people who want AnCap are just here too late as to when their nations agreement happened.
65  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Speculation on bASIC's Change of Ownership before shipping on: January 13, 2013, 04:40:10 AM
First off I want to tell you this is "pure" speculation.   I am reading about this mysterious change of ownership.

What is they used the pre-order money to develop the die/chip and bitstream and the purposely tank the company to get people to cancel their orders and then the new company actually is just going to build units in China/Asia to mining themselves in the mention "hosted" center?  Besides the total lack of morals, this is a possible way you could fund this type of development.

66  Other / Politics & Society / Alex Jones does real issues (gun rights and anti-depressant drugs) a dis-service on: January 08, 2013, 05:00:31 PM
Here is a link to the full video (if it isn't, link it and I'll update).

He was invited on a widely syndicated TV show and I think he really watered down his message by not calmly engaging in the debate.  He disrespected Piers on his show and they allows people who may be on the fence about this, to dismiss his message and the whole point of debate is really to sway people who have not fully dug in to a position.  Sure you can sometimes get them to re-evaluate their position but that is much more unlikely.

I support Mr. Jones historical examples of dis-arming the population and what usually happens and the fact we are not talking about these prescription drugs that most people are on that have serious black-box warnings about suicide and violent outbursts.  Also the fact the almost all of these mass killings, the people committing them were on them.  I will also add we have a culture that glorifies violence and that does have a sub-conscious affect of numbing us to real violence.

He really should of conducted himself more professionally on this program to really bring these issues into the MSM debate.  I believe he will be panned and dismissed because of this conduct.

67  Other / Politics & Society / A charge against states or "statism" on: December 19, 2012, 04:07:31 PM
Quote
I don't want, and never wanted, to blame "governments".  They don't exist.  All there is, is people doing things.

I blame the belief in the virtue of a group who perpetrates organized aggression to parasitize everyone else.  People under the influence of this belief, whether members or victims of this group, are the ones who believe that governments exist.  Not me.

What you see in observable reality is nothing more than (a) a tiny minority of people telling you what to do and how much to pay so they will let you live unharmed (b) a gaggle of people who incorrectly believe that the first group are their saviors and protectors, and worship them as a result of this incorrect belief.

That is, to me, the essence of statism.  It is to recoil in horror when watching an aggressor murder another, then to watch the exact same scene with the aggressor in a blue costume, only to say "well, he had it coming".  It is to feel terrified about being robbed of half of what you have, but paying up every April 15th with an unease that is hard to explain away.  It is to talk shit about Halliburton while celebrating the paid murderers in green costumes.  It is to cry in awe as the President sheds tears for the death of 20 children, when he himself has ordered the firebombing of 2000.  It is that level of irrationality.  That is statism.

The problem isn't "totalitarianism".  It never was, not in the slightest.  The problem really isn't "aggressive people using too much aggression".  The problem is the belief that a bunch of aggressive people are virtuous and protect you.  That very belief, that the aggressive people are authorized and righteous to use aggression, is precisely what enables the aggressive people to murder everyone else, with total impunity.

If you think for a second that you live in a human farm, where you're farmed for your labor, and suppressed if you become a problem for the farmers, then the distinction between "totalitarianism" and "democracy" becomes very easy to figure out: both are merely methods to organize the farm.

The belief that a human being is righteously authorized to murder, brutalize, or cage another human being, as punishment for peacefully resisting an order, is not a totalitarian belief -- it is a statist belief.  Democide is not caused by totalitarianism -- it is caused by statism.

I quoted this from a user that believe in AnCap that he made this quite serious charge against the nation-state form of government.  I would like to get replies from people who don't believe that the AnCap system is better than nation-states.   These paragraphs above do in essence make-up part of the substance against the nation-state-mandatory-taxaxtion method of organizing society.

72  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Interesting Observation - Jr. Members talking about ASIC on: November 27, 2012, 05:18:46 PM
Just something I wanted to point because I thought it was interesting.

I see many posts on here that seem to discuss ASIC in regards to there affect on mining.   When I look at who is posting them and the subject matter, they seem to be a bunch of new members and at some point in their post history, they support BFL and dismiss or question other companies competing products.

For some reason it seems interesting that they all seem to come here to talk good about BFL's products, that is the common thread.  One that was funny is the "person" who in the introduction is "Hi I am a ASIC engineer from China".  Who are these people?

75  Economy / Services / [Interest?] Escrow + Goods Inspection Service on: October 23, 2012, 05:07:42 PM
Update 10/24/2012:  After really putting more thought into this, I am going to move forward to get this service setup for people.  I know I can provide value to disassociated parties and maintain a high integrity on various deals.  I will have my name nailed down tonight and work on the website over the weekend.  I will also be contacting my shipper to let him know to expect more packages and to have an area set aside for the goods.  The process is almost finalized and I think people will be happy on how I am handling their transaction.

I wanted to get people's feel for an escrow service for their transactions?   I have an office in Seattle with space to hold and test goods.   I would charge a small percentage on the transaction & verification (buyer pays).

With GPU mining coming to an end and me winding my operation down, I am looking at helping the community in other ways.   I am computer & electronics savvy so I can do basic testing on most equipment.  I also have a background in music & tools so I can review those as well.   I would ask for the buyers expectations and the seller's representation of the item and making sure they match before release of goods and funds.   Any discrepancies would be sent to the buyer for additional feedback.

Would you be interested in a service like this?

78  Economy / Service Discussion / Have Questions about GBLSE Shutdown? Ask Matthewh3 (Unofficial Spokesperson) on: October 07, 2012, 03:52:33 PM
Last night I found out about the announcement on GBLSE's website.   A thread addressing a possible scammer tag was taking place (14 pages of response at the time).    Many users had questions about the shutdown and was waiting to hear from Nefario.  Then the most interesting thing happened.

Below are the updates we have gotten so far from their unofficial spokesperson Matthewh3.   He seems to be in communication with Nefario.

Please direct your comments at Matthewh3 https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?action=profile;u=44583 for updates:

1.   Re: Nefario
October 06, 2012, 08:20:41 PM

Matthewh3 - "No GLBSE coins not users coins.  He hasn't touched a single satoshi of users monies.  He hasn't even paid a penny in legal fees yet.  It's only fair that GLBSE (profit) coins should used to solve GLBSE legal problems.  Nafario as already lost the way he made his living.  Expecting him to cover GLBSE legal fees personally to benefit the other shareholders or else a scammer tag deserves a scammer tag."

2.  Re: Nefario
October 06, 2012, 08:25:33 PM

Matthewh3 - "No Nafario told me on the phone he's had to shut down to avoid (possible) jail time for helping to fund terrorism and helping money laundering never mind all the tax issues."

3.  Re: Nefario
October 06, 2012, 08:51:42 PM

Matthewh3 - "Nafario said on the phone he has been made some very generous offers for the source-code.  Also the owner of the LTC-Global said he was selling his source-code too."

4.   Re: Nefario
October 06, 2012, 08:56:07 PM

Matthewh3 - "All users coins on the GLBSE is safe and untouched.  Nafario wants to return them as soon as possible as they are a legal liability to him.  He also said he will soon have a way for asset issuers to pay dividends but not trade shares. "

5.  Re: Nefario
October 06, 2012, 09:15:07 PM

Matthewh3 - "I think he will need full legal ID to pay back coins and shares.  Otherwise he risks being charged with possible money laundering and/or funding terrorism.  Tho he won't disclose that information unless requested by the government/police."

6.  Re: Nefario
October 06, 2012, 09:32:49 PM

Matthewh3 - "Maybe not to you but I think that's what Nafario's lawyer has told him is his get out of jail card for possible criminal charges.  This is not about stealing coins.  The GLBSE was where Nafario made his living and he didn't shut it down for the sake of shooting himself in the foot to steal coins.  As I stated he's working on a withdrawal process to comply with AML rules and will soon have a way for asset issuers to pay dividends but not trade shares."

7.  Re: Nefario
October 06, 2012, 09:44:05 PM

Matthewh3 - "It's just like when MtGox forced AML on people who wanted to withdraw.  Nafario doesn't do it and he has a very real risk of going to jail."
