82  Economy / Goods / Feeler: 21watt LED REEF tank lightbulbs on: October 11, 2012, 05:03:18 PM
Hey guys,

Recently Purchased a couple of chinese 21 watt e27 light bulbs with Intention of popping out several of the white LEDs on them and replacing with 450nm royal blue leds and 420nm actinic leds.

I was planning on doing 3 warm white leds 3 royal blue 450nm leds and 1 actinic 420nm led per light bulb.

If anyone is interested I could sell one shipped for 6 bitcoins.

Will also do a different ratio of royal blues to whites.

If someone wants a bulb order of 5 or more I will knock off 20%...

Thanks,
83  Bitcoin / Mining / >50% attack on: October 10, 2012, 03:42:17 AM
This is probably a dead horse... But if anyone wanted to attack bitcoin...

They wouldn't just do it by stockpiling a shitload of asics... They would probably stockpile a more modest/resonable number of asics/fpgas and launch attacks targeting the top pools.

Unless I'm thinking about this wrong you would only need to take out the top 3 or 4 pools and you could cut hashrate really substantially.

If there is a reason this is not feasible please enlighten me. I am rather new so maybe I'm missing something like... How long you'd have to have greater than 50% network hashrate... etc.
84  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / Need help flashing Radeon 6950 on: October 09, 2012, 07:45:23 PM
Ok, this story is kinda convoluted... But I bought a 6950 with fan issues recently in hope of repairing it. This card has given me nothing but trouble...

I could go through all the things I have tried but I'll just say that this is the only solution left.

Anyway, the card is a non-reference HIS Radeon 6950 2gb. It does not have a bios switch but it does have a spot where one would go. From what I can tell, HIS used the reference PCB design for this card... But didn't include a bios switch.

***before anyone says it can't be flashed***
I have read several threads of people flashing it... it working... and wanting to go back to the original bios. But their methods have not worked for my card.
***anyways***

The fan will not spin up. I believe that the fan controller is out on the card. It will however run at the minimum default speed set in bios. Hence: If I can change the min value I can set it to like 50 or 60% and the card will be usable.

I also wouldn't mind unlocking the additional shaders if possible (it is an option in RBE and is not grayed out).

What I have tried:

I have tried flashing the rom in RBE... I get the error that the rom can't be erased.

I have tried flashing the rom via command prompt as administrator with the commands (it is the second card in the comp):

atiflash -unlockrom 1

atiflash -f -p 1 original.bios

I get the error:

ROM not erased

Is there anything else I can try? I have read that you can short the bios chip via the 1st and 8th pin to get it flashed... I cannot however figure out which chip is the bios chip... There are several voltage regulators on this card that look similar... If it helps I can take a picture or two though.

Any help you can give would be much appreciated.

Thanks guys,
Andrew
85  Economy / Goods / FS: Cascade Hop Rhyzomes 2 for FREE! on: September 29, 2012, 10:49:06 PM
So I have a couple of these left and I don't want them to go to waste. Accordingly they are now free. You just have to pay shipping in bitcoin or litecoin!

Shipping on 2 should be about $5 as I have to ship them in a flat rate box.

Thanks guys!

Additional Info:

These will be 4 inchs long and nickle sized in diameter(not the crappy 3 inch twigs that homebrew stores sell sometimes). If I can't fill every order with nickle diameter I will put 2 or 3 smaller diameter rhyzomes instead of one.

They will be packaged in a small padded envelope with a small cool pack. You will then need to put them in a plastic baggy in the fridge untill after the first frost in spring when you should plant them. They need to be semi damp as well and will be shipped as such... Don't dry them out completely or you won't get runners coming off the rhyzomes while they hang out in your fridge over winter.

I am thinking 2 rhyzomes for 1 btc... This includes shipping in the continental US. I may ship to other countries (Canada and Mexico come to mind) but you will have to contact me first and may have to pay additional shipping.

I am selling these in fall instead of Spring so that I can get a handle on demand. I will only sell half of the rhyzomes now on here. The other half I will sell locally in North Carolina during the spring.

Please post comments and whether you are interested/how many you might want. I will discount larger orders.

Thanks guys,
Andrew
86  Economy / Computer hardware / WTS: GA-890GPA-UD3h plus Phenom II x6 1090T on: September 25, 2012, 10:15:57 PM
Want to get rid of this mobo cpu combo. It has 2 pci-e 16x slots and 3 pci-e 1x slots. Tons of other features. Have never overclocked the cpu... Actually had it undervolted for a while. Stock cooler.

I can include 2x1gb sticks of DDR3 for a couple extra bucks if needed. Post here with offers.

Thanks guys,
87  Economy / Computer hardware / WTS: a couple of gpus: 5850, 5770s, 5970 on: September 20, 2012, 01:22:57 AM
1 x 5850... Mining at 850 core... 1.000vcore pushing 320mh/s

1 x 5770... Mines at 920 core... 1.000vcore pushing 213mh/s  (his non reference design)

1 x 5770... Havn't mined with it in a while but it does mine and plays video games flawlessly was an RMA replacement, I got it this summer and used it maybe 2 months.

Also have a 5970 that has 1 functional GPU... Mines at 760 core... 1.000vcore pushing 330mh/s
(I have inspected both sides of the pcb and have identified 1 smd capacitor that looks burnt. It is between the two gpus below the crossfire bridge so I am assuming this is the problem. If you try and mine with this core the computer becomes non responsive)

PM me with offers or post in this thread.

Half upfront... Then I ship... Then you pay me the rest when you get the cards. If you have a low post count or recently joined I may need half upfront... the other half in escrow untill the card gets there.
88  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / Can't install GPUs on 1x slot on: September 06, 2012, 08:16:35 PM
Hey guys

I have a gigabyte 890gp-ud3h motherboard and I cannot instill gpus on the 1x slots... Doesn't matter the GPU or how many are in the comp... If one card is being used in 1 pci-e 1x slot the computer will boot but I cannot install drivers for the cards(using ati)...

Maybe I'm doing something stupid... But even with 2 cards in the 16x slots... If I add a card to any of the 1x slots... It isn't recognized.

Thanks for any help you can give me.
89  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / HELP: Replacing SMD Capacitors on a Radeon 7970 on: September 01, 2012, 01:21:30 PM
So, I bought a broken 7970 off of here in the hope to repair it. It is sometimes picked up in RBE (I cannot load bios but the card shows up)... Also Windows detects the card and trys to install default drivers but CCC will not.

***This card cannot be RMA'd due to it being bought from a second party... Plus the block has been off and I've replaced thermal grease... etc***

So upon inspection of the PCB I have found what looks like an area that is less than the size of a dime has most of its capacitors burnt.

These are the small SMD Capacitors that you can see in the picture and the larger ones are labled 2018, 2019, and 2028. The smaller smd Capacitors are not labeled from what I can tell.

So I have tried to contact Sapphire to get the  specs on these capacitors in order to replace them but they will not respond.

I have replaced a SMD capacitor or a 5870 with good results (it works now).

My options are... use some SMDs that I have laying around on spare broken cards: 5870, 6870... etc. I have been told that I can replace the capacitor with higher voltage, ulr, and same or higher capacitance, but not knowing the specs on any of the capacitors I'd have to just desolder a few of the other capacitors of the same size and check them with a meter at school then test some extra capacitors on the spare parts cards I have.

Another problem I have is that I feel comfortable doing this with the larger caps (i'd be using a heat gun or maybe just a small soldering Iron I have)... But I do not know how I would do it with the small caps as they are really tiny. I am going to ask around and see if anyone on campus has a nice soldering/reflow station but it may be a long shot.

Any thoughts or ideas would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks guys!
Andrew
90  Economy / Computer hardware / WTS: 2x 5850s on: August 19, 2012, 06:25:51 PM
5850s are both reference cards. I'd like $110 $100 a piece for them plus shipping. Prefer bitcoin.

One of the 5850s has a slight whine at low rpms (around 1500). If you run it above 25% fan speed,or you leave your case closed you don't here it.

Thanks,
91  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / Can't add 5770 to my 2x5850 mining rig on: August 19, 2012, 02:30:22 PM
Hey Guys,

I have two 5850s in my mining rig. My board is 890gpa-ud3h. I have two antec earthwatt powersupplies daisy chained. One is a 430 max 372 constant that runs the tower and one card. The other is a 350 constant that runs the second card.

I bought a couple of 1xto16x pci-e risers. It has two 16x pci-e slots and 3 1x pci-e slots.

When I try to add the 5770 to one of the 1x slots and second powersupply(there is enough amps to run both the 5850 and 5770) the computer will not post.

I was wondering if anyone had any ideas? My next step may be to put one of the 5850s on a 1x riser and the 5770 on a 1x riser. Thinking it could be a bandwidth issue? But I still think it would post???

Thanks,
92  Economy / Computer hardware / [WTB] Broken Graphics cards... or working on: August 19, 2012, 01:55:45 AM
UPDATE(1/28/2018) Still looking! Smiley

Hey guys. Was wondering if anyone had some gpus laying around that either have bad artifacting... or just won't even post.

I want cards which will atleast spin up during boot. But no output is fine.

Tell me what you have an what you want for it. I will accept almost anything but I would like a picture of the back of the cards and a brief description of what is wrong with it.

Thinking this might be a great time for people to dump their cards that may not be game worthy... atleast before asics come online.

I'll also buy working gpus if the price is right.

Thanks!
