Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Where will GPU's go next?
|
on: March 14, 2014, 03:46:19 PM
|
As the title says, I am just curious where the GPU's will go next. I remember when ASIC's started hitting the BTC market, and GPU's made a slow transition from BTC to LTC. Now that Scrypt ASIC's are arriving, I am curious where everyone thinks will be the next big thing for GPU's.
Personally, I think something like VertCoin or something along those lines would be good, since it's scrypt with an adaptive n factor. But perhaps some new algorithm altogether will take over. I think it would be cool if it was something like XPM, but that seems losing some steam and value lately.
I'd like to think after scrypt asic's are in full effect and pushing GPU's out of the network, well I hope that all GPU miners can unite and support something like LTC was supported by the GPU community after SHA256 asic's took over.
If you have any thoughts on what might be worth taking a good look at, please post here, I'm interested in learning more without reading about 10,000 different alt's.

Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / PhenixCoin profitability - estimated 200%
|
on: May 24, 2013, 06:46:41 PM
|
I just calculated the math on PhenixCoin (vs ltc) profitability. It is about (almost) 200%, if you are selling your coins at 17 LTC/1K PXC. This is really profitable for miners, and buyers are eating it up, because of the coin's potential. The difficulty is about 4.84 LTC difficulty is 558 558/4.84 = so theoretically you should find 115 PXC blocks at the same rate you'd find 1 LTC block. 115 PXC blocks = 5750 PXC. 5.75 PXC x 17 LTC / 1K PXC = 97 LTC Once LTC difficulty rises in 12 hours, PXC will gain even more profitability. This is a great solution for solo miners also, you also remove risk of longer rounds of badluck with a smaller difficulty. Just some interesting numbers for you guys.

Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / BTB (BitBar) - Improving The Alt CryptoCurrencies
|
on: May 04, 2013, 09:32:29 PM
|
I want to know what the community thinks about BTB.
I have 50% of my mining at FTC and 50% at BTB currently.
I'm a fan of the alt-coins or whatever is bringing highest profitability ratio.
I've sold 40k worth of FC on this forum and exchanges, and I devoted my mining resources to it when difficulty was really low.
Anyway, I want to discuss what people think of BTB for the future. Although I jumped on FTC, I admitted openly that I do not understand the hype of FTC.
Now, if I am confused or misinformed with anything I posted below, please post some input.
A block reward change of 200 coin from 50 coin, there is nothing fundamentally different between FTC and LTC.
BTB is a new gameplayer, and one that should be looked at seriously. The difficulty adjustment beats out any other PoW based coin, (BTC,LTC,FTC, etc) The minting ratio is about 1 BTB/10 minutes. This means that if people are flooding the network finding new blocks, that the reward should be lower than normal. (currently, ~.16) This should (probably did) mitigate the idea of 'early adoption' .. 'premining' for this coin. Now think about when currencies (like where FTC is bound), will overshoot the difficulty forcing a lot of miners to leave the network? (The difficulty will drop later) What happens then is the BTB reward per block should get higher. This provides an incentive to continue mining while the difficulty may even be in decline, or too high. The balance/reward on this system seems more sound and makes more sense to me than other coins.
NVC really caught my attention and I would have thought the NVC structure would have beat out any other scrypt alts in the long run. However that pesky, premine has tainted the image and adoption.
Anyway there are some things to be concerned about. The dev's of BTB, I hope they can play a strong role in the community. I have to say I like the idea of BTB, probably more than any other alt-scrypt coin out at the moment.

Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / [POLL] What current alt crypto-currency do YOU believe in?
|
on: April 23, 2013, 06:37:59 PM
|
Just curious. I'm targetting the question more to scrypt algorithms, however I added some sha256 ones for kicks.
There is a lot of hype with FeatherCoin, but I was hoping to see more of a design improvement for hopping onto a new coin. And currently, I'm mining FC, because there is a demand for it. I want to hold onto my generated coin but I am concerned about it's future.
edit: added bbq, bte, & 'none' option to poll, forgot about them. since nmc and dvc are merged mining to bitcoin, i didn't add. also forgot many of the others but they are mostly phased out.

Other / Beginners & Help / FeatherCoin - Any weight behind it?
|
on: April 23, 2013, 03:29:43 PM
|
I've been around for a while but I have been mostly in the shadows.
I was on the PPCoin bandwagon when it first came out.
I also, felt like, there was some design flaws within it and I did not hold onto PPC or the idea for much longer. However, I did like seeing innovation being done with cryptocurrency, and I lacked the thought that any flaws could be ironed out with later fixes.
Given the obvious current market rates, it was a mistake selling off all PPC and letting go of it at that time. (But of course BTC's value has skyrocketed since then also)
Anyway, I'm just curious what exactly is all the hype with this new FeatherCoin. If it were the peoples choice in alt-cryptocurrency, I wouldn't have any FUD about.
But I kind of feel like it offers absolutely nothing new or improved from litecoin. Only block reward was increased from 50 coin to 200 coin.
NovaCoin is also a new coin.. I feel this one has more grounds for improvement. It has PoW+PoS along with scrypt etc. It is basically a scrypt based PPC.
Maybe one, both or none of these will hold up in the future. If I had to guess, I would say NovaCoin should beat out FeatherCoin by design. I suppose the momentum with FeatherCoin can be attributed to the 'early adopter' attitude and the fact that the difficulty is so low. When value and difficulty square off, where is the coin going to go? Bubble burst?
Honestly, I am mining some FC right now. I am also trying to mine some NVC, I will probably move back to NVC soon because I believe more in the structure. One downside to NVC is the 100k+coin premine, which was destroyed.
Of course I don't see these 2 (NVC,FC) as viable long term so I probably won't mine these myself for more than a month. I see BTC as the most solid, even if it doesn't reap the most profits from mining BTC directly. But even Litecoin should hold more value than these other coins (NVC,FC). It is more profitable for gpu to be on alt currency and trade back for higher amount of bitcoin.
