21  Other / Off-topic / I need to have a rant about the state of the job market on: January 29, 2016, 02:25:48 PM
I'm sure you're all going through this or have been through it at some point, I actually believe now it is likely going to be easier for me to get an income independently in Bitcoin and I've calculated this than it is to get the most basic of jobs out there. I have shit grades, but I am not somebody at all who is afraid of doing some physical labour or hard work, in fact, I'd love to just get a part time cleaner job or something to earn some extra income while I work on my projects and mostly so my parents will get off my backs about 'not doing anything' despite the fact that I'm learning C# programming and trading any Bitcoin profit I make so far.

So when they tell me 'get a job' as if it's that easy I point out to them this kind of bullshit which is what the job search engines seem to be infested with now.

MONDAY TO FRIDAY EVENINGS ( 2 HOURS PER SHIFT 6:00PM TILL 8:00PM  )

DUTIES TO INCLUDE: HOOVERING, MOPPING, DAMP WIPING, EMPTYING BINS, CLEANING TOILETS & KITCHENS, ETC.

SUCCESSFULL APPLICANT MUST HAVE PREVIOUS CLEANING EXPERIENCE AND BE ABLE TO PROVIDE CURRENT WORK REFERENCES.

Of course, naturally they're very dismissive and I wonder if anybody else has had this experience trying to explain it to the baby boomer generation in particular just how bad things are now? As for this fucking employer, what the fucking hell are they thinking trying to demand somebody bring along work reference for a fucking cleaning job? This isn't anything specialised mind you either, this is absoutely standard, I'm not an idiot trying to apply for something like an executive position without even a degree.

I actually reckon if I keep working at it I could even beat the wage their offering in Bitcoin and I've decided that will be my goal this year because they're only offering minimum wage anyway, I would have been happy with that though just as an extra side income. However even if I were the most perfect candidate with a fucking masters degree, I would not be able to get this job because they have put such utterly ridiculous requirements.

I've even looked at trainee positions by the way awhile back, just out of curiosity, these were for graduates and the like, first thing these idiotic employers demand is industry experience. They should know, nobody young is going to have that kind of experience and then people have the fucking gall to go and rant at us for not being able to find work.

By the way, that's an exact copy and paste of the job description and yes, they mispelled 'successful' fucks sake! -_-
22  Other / Politics & Society / Refugees claim ISIS militants living among them in Germany on: January 23, 2016, 08:20:19 PM
https://www.rt.com/news/329890-germany-refugees-isis-members/

With all the censorship going on it's refreshing at least to see Russia Today of all news organisations actually talk about this, probably because the Russians seem to be taking the threat of radical Islamists seriously unlike these other fucking countries. I don't know about you, but I am also not surprised by this, if you just bring that many people in without even thinking about the consequences or doing proper checks, of course there are going to be people with links to ISIS slipping through, it's the perfect opportunity for them and our always right media and politicians are in total denial about it.
23  Other / Off-topic / Detailed knowledge of UK slander/libel laws in regards to content? on: January 18, 2016, 04:24:42 PM
I've got quite a complicated question to ask you guys and I'm not expecting people here will know but it might be worth a shot. I've got a game planned that could land me in legal trouble depending on how it's interpreted and given the group of people in question that I intend to mock I need to find out for sure not whether or not what I'm doing is legal ( because I know in general it should be ) but whether or not somebody could sue me over it. The reason being is because I think the defamation laws are quite different here in the UK compared to other countries ( Yet another reason to leave this shit hole ) so I don't know what lines I can cross as much and what I can't.

It doesn't involve anything like defamation which definitely would be illegal, but it certainly takes the piss in the same way South Park or Family Guy does by mocking public figures so I'm wondering if anybody could give me information on this I'd appreciate it, it's a very very specialised area of the law though it seems.
24  Other / Off-topic / [Solved] Would buying a new standard router from a shop help my ping/speed? on: January 03, 2016, 05:16:58 PM
So I'm with this absolutely horrible ISP and even though they've improved things very slightly one very constant problem that I have identified and I'm pretty sure affects us regularly is their use of cheap or second hand routers that always keep breaking resulting in us having to contact tech support to find the problem and almost all the time it involves simply replacing the router as they constantly have faulty ones.

I figured people here would know, do any of you buy routers yourselves? Would you say they've improved things? I'm having ping spike problems and I'm absolutely sick of going through it all constantly and I just know they're going to say they'll send an engineer over who will replace them with another one that's going to fail within a few months again. Before you ask, I've already exhausted anything I can do on my end, even a VPN doesn't stop these spikes or speed problems because normally it's traffic shaping.

Seems to me like the best option would be to just buy a new router and test it out since they're not that expensive and I know they won't be shit.
25  Other / Off-topic / Star Wars Force Awakens [SPOILERS] on: December 21, 2015, 07:46:25 PM
So I don't know if anyone knows already, but the film is being leaked left and right now and it's gone past the premiere date. I have to say, at first I thought it was pretty good but then after I started going through it I actually became increasingly irritated by it. There are already complaints circulating, but this isn't a sequel, it isn't even an original story, it's actually a blatant rip off of the original films, not only that they even use the same type of shots and cliches from the originals.

Now before you foam at the mouth over what I've posted, think about it, look at the movie again if you get the chance ( There's cam footage now ) you'll know exactly what I mean, the fight scenes are amazing and the acting isn't bad, but everything is so unbelievably cut and paste you'd think that they just chopped off bits from the originals ( and some prequel scenes ) everyone is starting to pick up on it, even news journalists who I'm sure would otherwise be jerking off Disney for a job well done.

http://nypost.com/2015/12/18/how-the-force-awakens-ripped-off-the-original-star-wars/

This movie pissed me off Sad I don't care how much flak I get for saying it.

27  Other / Off-topic / Star Citizen Internet Drama on: October 03, 2015, 12:16:59 PM

https://www.reddit.com/r/starcitizen/comments/3n6lum/escapist_anonymous_sources_uncovered

So I've always had a big interest in Star Citizen but since learning to develop games I've been keeping a much closer eye on the industry and scanning around for information on various people. Well it looks like there is a guy called Derek Smart who has had a personal vendetta against Chris Roberts since wing commander that pretty much most in the gaming sphere knows about who has had any interest in space simulators for quite some time.

For those who don't know, this guy Derek Smart is pretty much one of those incredibly petty and stalkerish people you will inevitably come across in life who decide just because they don't like you they're going to follow you around and try to cause havoc even if they're totally in the wrong. This guy makes me look like a fucking genius with the sorts of games he's 'released' and the business decisions he's made like Desktop Commander and Line of defense which incidentally has some rather idiotic micro-transactions that makes EA look sane http://lodmmo.com/store/.

So recently he decided to renew his vendetta against Chris Roberts who has been showing him up with his games like Wing Commander for years and recently his latest attack has been via proxy using the escapist gaming news website. Now it seems somebody has been doing some digging in the reddit post and has posted up all sorts of information about how the escapist 'sources' that are complaining about Star Citizen are full of shit, regardless of whether you like Star Citizen or not and whether you approve of the direction they're going in you've got to admit, this kind of thing is a fucking joke.
28  Other / Off-topic / WithU - Sexual Assault app - Possibly full of holes? Looking for volunteers on: September 14, 2015, 11:36:36 PM
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=86SWunVasNk

Hey guys, I hang out on Reddit ( as you may or may not know already ) and I came across this guy who was posting up an app he was apparently working on himself. It's an app that's supposed to be used in an emergency to make recordings of fights or whatnot if somebody is getting assaulted or abused and it will get your GPS location and transmit it to other nearby users. The thing is though, even as a nice idea and even with my limited knowledge of security I feel like there are way too many holes in it and ways this can be messed with and that's not including the idea of posting up fake recordings to cause hysteria amongst the users.

So I was wondering who I knew that would be able to take a look at this stuff and immediately thought of you lot since you often mess around with this kind of thing, I remember when you were all trying to break 1broker.com. If you're interested it might be a nice thing to do for the guy and I'll link this post to him so he can give you some targets to try and break the app perhaps, let me know what you think of it.

For the record, the original post I'm talking about was put up on the MRA subreddit here: https://www.reddit.com/r/MensRights/comments/3kyxz7/withu_better_than_good2go_and_weconsent/cv1pwsg?context=3

I'm observing this debate with interest now guys, as I'm poking around I can certainly see both sides of the debate. However don't forget that we are on the eve of one of the biggest economic collapses in history. Please don't fuck up what we have here through petty squabbling and misinformation when everybody who uses Bitcoin can have a genuine safe haven from the collapse and be free for the first time from these carefully engineered wealth transfers that keep happening every few decades.

31  Other / Off-topic / Testing out a VPN, the difference to speed and stability is quite dramatic on: July 24, 2015, 11:52:58 AM
So as you probably know now I've been meaning to get a VPN for quite some time and finally got round to testing one that was recommended to me https://www.tunnelbear.com/ , I'm convinced that my ISP virgin media is almost certainly throttling me because the connection tends to overreact a lot to things I do, everything slows down more than it should when I download and so on. They also are rabid in blocking torrent sites and so on as any other customer will tell you. What's surprised me is that the difference in speed is very dramatic, I think they have been deliberately targeting my connection because of how much I use bittorrent, so I fired up TunnelBear and all of a sudden everything is working way smoother than it ever has.

I'm definitely paying for one properly now I can afford it because I don't even need to use proxies to get to places which is great and I bet regions won't be restricted either for me because I can switch my location to the US no problem. Holy crap it's ridiculous, but yeah, I was suffering quite a bit this week with my connection and gave a call to tech support which lasted 54 minutes. They were very evasive and the guy was a classic indian tech support who even tried to claim that he wanted remote desktop access, in the end all he wanted to do was change my router firewall settings. He even had the balls to claim that asking something like that of a customer was completely normal.

Anyway, what are your experiences with VPNs when it comes to connection speeds? I keep wondering if this will fix the ping spike problems I have in gaming because I'm more and more convinced now it's bandwidth throttling given the boost in performance I've gotten. Turns out by the way, it has basically fixed all the problems with my connection, they were in fact throttling my connection a huge amount, I tried tunnelbear at first but private internet access seems the way to go for torrents and gaming which is what I tend to do most.
32  Other / Off-topic / Starcraft 2 Multiplayer - Does anybody still actually play it? on: July 09, 2015, 05:19:54 PM
I've gone and bought Starcraft 2 because it's nice and cheap now, Wings of Liberty at least and I've always in general liked RTS' but playing them on multiplayer is the most boring shit imaginable. Here's the thing, most strategy games are either now boring spamfests where you constantly have to keep up the unit count until one person gives in or makes a mistake ( usually that's me ) or it's down to who picks the right build orders and who rushes first which is a really annoying game to play because in the end instead of having fun blasting each other to bits you're too busy trying to worry if an enemy has spotted you first or not and if you have the right units out.

There really are only two main strategies it seems in Starcraft 2, yes I'm aware of various abilities and stuff but really anal players should realise none of that matters early game if especially if you have the right counters to them. There's the usual rush method where you just build a ton of cheap units and try to throw them at your enemy before they can build up and then there's the method of focusing on researching powerful units.

The problem with rushing is if the player is good, they'll have already scouted your base and know what your build order is so they'll just make units that counter that one ( In my case it was Thor's against my marines, because that's fair isn't it? ) second game I had the opposite had happened to me where instead of getting rushed by big weaponry I got cheap units after me because I had switched tactics, so I ended up getting swarmed by zerglings and banelings before I could get any helions up.

Thank fuck for modders because otherwise I would utterly hate this game, this is a bit of a rant I know but I'm a bit pissed at what Starcraft 2 has become because at least with Starcraft 1 you could always settle down with some nice offline gaming but you actually have to install mods in Starcraft 2 to be able to have any of that. The problem is the players on multiplayer really do take the fun out of the game because it's like facing off against hard A.I every fucking time because they've all got the build orders memorised and know exactly what to do, I really can't be bothered with any of that.

For multiplayer RTS I definitely would take Rome: Total War or Ground Control 2 any day but those games will definitely be dead now when it comes to multiplayer. Been trying to get into the RTS genre for multiplayer but it's all just shit and don't get me started on fucking MOBA's.
33  Other / Off-topic / Are professional templates worth it for people who just don't have the time? on: July 07, 2015, 09:29:58 PM
Some of you guys will know this I'm sure given that a lot of you are clearly in the web design business. I'm thinking of doing a serious makeover of my websites because yes, I'll admit it, while I got the basic functions, the look is absolute shit. It seems to me like with music and sound because I just don't have either the time or the skillset or the patience.

As I know there are some professionals lurking around would you say it's a good idea to do it? I want to fix my sites up and make them a hell of a lot more professional, browsing the ubercart templates of http://themeforest.net/attributes/compatible-with/Ubercart and quite a few of them look very neatly designed.
