41  Economy / Gambling discussion / An Insight into German's loosened restrictions (hopefully) on: November 11, 2021, 04:21:01 PM
A super interesting article which portrayed how heavy restrictions can cause probelms not only for the people but for the government as well, since with more restrictions in things like Gambling, people try and look for other options and opportunities so they move onto the black, unregulated market, which ends up bad not just for them but for the government alike.

Let's look at the article :
Quote
Gambling Insider was in attendance at the Betting on Sports Europe conference for a discussion on the new proposed regulations in Germany.

The panel, comprised of Dominik Beier, Managing Director, Emotion Group, Nico Jansen, Bet it Best Founder & CEO (through video call), Christian Madlindl, Magic Sports Media COO, and Dr. Wulf Hambach, Hambach & Hambach Co Founder and Lawyer.

With worries that users may move into muddy waters and into the black market due to tight regulations, in such a complex market, what is allowed, what isn't allowed, and who is responsible?

The conversation around Germany, and its restrictive and high taxed gambling market, saw the panel of judges discuss what is needed in terms of compliance, laws and marketing regulation.

“Sports betting is fun and if you spoil the game, customers will have fun somewhere else,” said Dr Wulf Hambach.

“A lengthy activation period can cause customers to easily drop out,” he explains. “If I [a user] am registering at a website that is too complicated, or a website that asks me to verify myself all of the time, then I am not coming back and will choose a different option.

“The return of investment all depends on that activation period, viability and being realistic… and exemptions, of course, give players more freedom to play.

“The customer doesn’t see that the market is black, they just see a colourful offer on the internet, easy to register and if they win, they get their money.”

Jansen explained: “We already see a shift in revenue, in 2019, pre Covid-19, the overall revenue for slots was €6.1bn ($7bn); for 2021 the estimated overall revenue for slots is €3bn, so it has been cut by 50%. We already see a shift and I’m pretty sure this revenue is down to the black market.”

There is an evident shift in revenue but at most places ( most countries)revenue is rising for gambling, which does give a scope for people getting engaged in the black market and it's not their fault because they would look for looser options, options where they can enjoy more instead of always submitting their identities on every site.

Sports betting is much loved by everyone around the world and the person rightly said that this is nothing but spoiling the fun and therefore tighter laws did not work in the favour of the government at all this time.

What the government needs to do:

Renew the laws
Make sure the rules and regulations are not too harsh for the people engaging in them
Make sure the gambling section is healthier for both parties.

What do you think about it ?
I do think this is a really powerful article especially concerned with gambling laws, rules and regulations since time and again we see them change for the worse and people can take a break and look at Germany.

42  Economy / Gambling discussion / Online sports book, New York. on: November 09, 2021, 10:43:02 AM
The New York State Gambling Commission recently recommend three companies to operate an online sports book online.
-Pointsbet
-Caesar
-Rush street
Apparently the CEO's are extremely happy about the recommendation made since this shows that they are not only doing a good job but they are also considered to provide exceptional services online.
They are waiting for the official opportunity to leverage sports betting and to have a healthy relationship with NBC as well in lieu of a partnership.
Caesars are currently operating in 20 states and 14 of them are online already. Therefore this could give them not only more exposure but they would already be ready for it and would know how to handle it.
Quote
In addition to operating numerous retail sportsbooks across the country, Caesars Sportsbook is currently live in 20 states and jurisdictions, 14 of which are mobile. The sportsbook is the official casino sponsor and an official sports betting partner of the NFL and has signed agreements with the NBA, NHL, MLB; and over 20 individual teams across the country while being the exclusive odds provider for ESPN and CBS Sports.

Rush street is already well established in other states as well and therefore they are also going to provide amazing services to the new Yorkers.
-They are supposed to launch everything during the first quarter of 2022.

Why is this news so important?
-This news is highlighting the importance of sports betting especially online for the Government regulated bodies, therefore we can look forward for positive impact and more space being provided to the gambling industry in New York.

43  Economy / Gambling discussion / The Gambling increase due to the pandemic, stats, UK on: November 01, 2021, 03:09:45 PM
The pandemic have been an extremely stressful event for the world and most people are having problems regarding jobs, money or something else or the other. The government has started implementing regulations in a way that it would not only profit them, but they are also gaining a lot of money from various activities and on the top we have Gambling.

Quote
For this year’s Safer Gambling Awareness Week (1-7 November), NerdWallet conducted research which revealed that nearly two-fifths of frequent gamblers, defined as those who gamble at least once a month, have seen their gambling increase during the pandemic.

Now why the evaluation of data is important?
-It might provide an insight into how the government's laws are changing the way people Gamble. Which can be used to do research on various matters like gambling Addiction.

It can not only be used by companies but government itself to provide better laws.

- 63% gamblers noted an increase in time spent gambling.
- 62% said their gambling habit remained the same despite the laws being more losse for some areas
- 12% reported an increase in their gambling habit

Quote
With a lack of distraction over the tough months of lockdown, it appears that people have found it much harder to manage their gambling, and the habits developed during the last 18 or so months have been difficult to unwind even as the UK opens up.”

Not only that the reports go deep so as how people took the personal experience.

Quote
However, many wished to reduce the amount of time they spend gambling, with 43% of those who gamble at least once a month expressing this desire, while 57% of the everyday gamblers also wanted to curb the habit — but at the same time, 42% stated they had no idea how to go about it.

I hope this article can provide an insight for the safe gambling awareness week and could highlight the main events that we might have to encounter and understand.

44  Economy / Gambling discussion / Genting Casinos awarded for their safer betting standards on: October 26, 2021, 06:14:32 PM
Apparently, Genting Casinos are awarded gamcare safer gambling standards for the second time in row. They are a casino based in UK. I do think this is a really big achievement for them.
It represents their social responsibility and quality standard in the gambling industry which is an admirable achievement. They apparently have level 3 which is the highest level possible giving them points for commitment towards achieving secure and safer standards for their users.
Quote
GamCare’s description of advanced level 3 is “a business that has adopted a wide range of safer gambling measures that go beyond the social responsibility provisions of their gambling licence”.

It's the only uk based land casino to have achieved this award.
Quote
Being the only UK land-based casino to be awarded this level of accreditation further emphasises that adopting safe gambling measures and customer care is at the heart of everything we do. While we’re delighted with the renewal of the award, we will continue to improve our standards to provide the best possible experience for our customers when they visit our casinos.”

Source : https://www.gamblinginsider.com/news/13648/genting-casinos-uk-awarded-gamcares-safer-gambling-standard-for-second-time

Which casino you think should be included in the list in the future?? Did you ever try and gamble there? I was not aware of these awards and I do believe these are an amazing way to show the appreciation and to show the responsibility that a casino might take to go beyond for it's users.
45  Economy / Gambling discussion / New York launches RFP for new casinos rising the taxation to 64% on: October 24, 2021, 06:47:33 PM
Quote
According to the matrix, “for a two-platform provider and four operator schemes, the proposed tax rate is 64%”

New Hampshire currently taxes 51% income and Pennsylvania taxes 36%, making the New York rate the highest in the country for sports betting.

The New York state gaming commission has issued a request for the proposals which are due 10 December apparently which would raise the gambling tax to 64% ( proposed) it's already way over the top. They have also issued information about the unlicensed casinos in the area. They wanna choose the official tenders, therefore these measures are supposed to attract those parties.

Quote
Resorts World Aqueduct Casino (owned by Genting) and Empire City Casino (owned by MGM Resorts), gambling properties that have already been licensed to run slot machines in the area, are speculated to be among the interested parties.

https://www.gamblinginsider.com/news/13616/new-york-launches-rfps-for-new-casinos-and-decides-64-tax-for-online-sports-betting

What do you think about these unreasonable tax rates ? ?
These are not only over the top but also going to push the companies away.
46  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Service Discussion (Altcoins) / WARNING generated about Sorare.com on: October 12, 2021, 06:33:58 AM
The gambling commission has warned the people of the site *sorare.com*. I do remember some people posting about this site and it seemed good for the first impression.

I do remember a post being made about this site which provides fantasy football games where players can trade cards and win as well.

Quote
Since Sorare doesn’t have a licence, any activity players of Great Britain complete on the site is outside the regulations any licensed operator has to comply with, such as player protection rules. Therefore, the regulator has warned customers to consider this information before signing up and interacting with Sorare.

But apparently they are still thinking if sorare does require any any license or they can be operating normally without one since they are not really providing gambling services according to them, but the results have to still come out.

Right now it's not really safe to transfer funds on that site.
( Until they decide to get the license or maybe the government rules out that they don't need any, either way, stay safe!)

47  Economy / Gambling discussion / Karnataka Government Banned Online Gambling on: October 07, 2021, 05:25:08 PM
PREVIOUSLY there was a discussion regarding how the Karnataka Government ( a state in India ) might soon ban the Gambling and Betting ( online)..

On Tuesday The Karnataka Government Act, was submitted to be amended, it Bans all Online Gambling and  Online Betting. It does extend and would give the users a maximum imprisonment of 5 years and fine UpTo 1 lakh. But as previously stated in the news, the law does not include Horse Racing.

Quote
As per the law, "games means and includes online games, involving all forms of wagering or betting, including in the form of tokens valued in terms of the money paid before or after the issue of it, or electronic means and virtual currency, electronic transfer of funds in connection with any game of chance."

The law was submitted following the death of a guy due to gambling losses ( he committed suicide)

Source: https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.deccanherald.com/amp/state/top-karnataka-stories/karnataka-notifies-law-banning-online-gambling-1037736.html

- We might see stricter regulations from other states as well which even though might be challenged, but would take freedom out of people's hands when it comes to online Gambling and Betting.

Therefore be careful if you are Gambling in Karnataka now. Some sites do block the VPN as well, so you might be in a loss if you try to bet on things without legal consent from the government, let's hope the amends can be made in a positive sense, they might restrict but outright banning might cause people to use underhanded methods to engage in it, what do you think ?
48  Economy / Trading Discussion / *Day Traders* are now calling gambling Addiction helplines!! on: October 07, 2021, 03:36:24 PM
A really interesting article:
https://www.ft.com/content/8f9bbc77-06b1-4fbd-8b7e-6e381ba038a7

The gambling Addiction helplines are spread across the world and people are super aware of them as well. Right now apparently there is a news regarding people actually calling those helplines asking help for not their *gambling Addiction* but for their day trading addiction.

The article goes far to compare the gambling with day trading, the trading platforms according to the article are now much similar to gambling and therefore when they talk about investing and trading, now a days, the animation, the applications, the bright colours, extreme profit and addiction is making it much similar to gambling.

Apparently the apps are designed in such a way that they rewire a person's brain and makes it harder for them to leave that habit.

My question is : *How far is day trading from Gambling according to you?*
Is that a valid comparison?? Are we soon going to consider the day trading *gambling?*

49  Economy / Gambling discussion / Sports betting to begin this Thursday in Connecticut on: September 30, 2021, 08:11:34 AM
Source : https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.nbcconnecticut.com/news/local/sports-betting-to-begin-in-connecticut-thursday/2592576/%3famp

Whosoever is living in Connecticut, there is a good news for the gamblers there, the sports agency have approved the master Gaming license.

It would be on-reservation sports betting plus the players would only be allowed place bets on temporary sports book.

Apparently they are still waiting on some documents from the lottery and therefore it would take time before the license can be finalized, but they are introducing it partially. Company calling it the soft launch.

Quote from the source:

Quote
The Department of Consumer Protection has approved the state licenses that Foxwoods Resort Casino and Mohegan Sun need to launch sports betting, while the Connecticut Lottery Corporation says it's aiming to roll out the first phase of retail and online sports betting during the first week of October.

The state agency approved the “master gaming licenses” for on-reservation sports betting on Tuesday for the two tribal casinos in southeastern Connecticut. It comes a day after a recent decision from the U.S. Department of Interior, which approved an amended agreement between the state and Mashantucket Pequot and Mohegan tribes that allows legalized sports wagering, online gambling and other new forms of betting, was published in the Federal Register.

Overall this seems like a really positive move for the gamblers out there, soon enough there will be better options for players to gamble safely within the regulations as well.

What do you think of this news??

51  Economy / Gambling discussion / Blockchain and Gambling on: September 20, 2021, 05:16:08 PM
So I recently read a very interesting article which actually defines about how blockchain is responsible for more responsible gambling.
https://www.gamblingnews.com/news/hashing-it-out-ep-11-blockchain-as-a-solution-for-more-responsible-gambling/
Quote
One of the attendees whom CoinGeek interviewed is Peter Higgins – a commercial mediator whose work is to solve disputes between gambling operators and clients. Higgins explained that sometimes these conflicts involve big sums of money and that his job is to prevent things from escalating to court where possible.

Speaking about blockchain, Higgins is quite optimistic about its use in solving such conflicts as their robust way of working will make it much easier to find out who is right and who is wrong.

“If you can have these ledgers in place that proves what was placed when with some different examples, in crude terms, it’s basically more evidence for the operator or for the client in that case,” Higgins explained.

- An essential method to solve conflicts in the long run which does mean that there will be less problems and we will have more proof in case of some dispute

Not only that it have immense potential account to the author, the knowledge, license, the compliance, data, gambling, approach safety it's all very well received with blockchain technology.

It can also be used to track a players journey apparently which I don't really understand about how it's under the privacy map.

Well the article was overall a good read, what do you think ?
52  Economy / Gambling discussion / Karnataka ( A state in India ) they introduced bill in assembly to ban o.gamblin on: September 20, 2021, 02:08:32 PM
https://www.google.com/amp/s/indianexpress.com/article/cities/bangalore/karnataka-government-bill-assembly-ban-online-gambling-7516048/lite/

Karnataka ( A state in India ) just introduced a bill in assembly to ban online gambling in the state which does mean that the players won't be able to use anything like that anymore. People will have maximum imprisonment UpTo 3 years or would have to pay 1 lac. Inr. Virtual currencies are also included in the same. It does not involve lottery or wagering, horse racing outside the state. For people who are addicted the punishment would increase every moment, it would start from a lower amount and lower imprisonment and increase tremendously for every next offence.

What do you think about it ?
( Players from Karnataka India, please do take a note of this and follow this news)
53  Economy / Gambling discussion / Gambling awareness for adolescents on: September 13, 2021, 04:59:31 PM
Quote
UK charity Gambling with Lives has created what it describes as “a ground-breaking new youth education programme”.

The programme is aimed at preventing gambling harm in young people and will be piloted at schools in Essex, Manchester and Northern Ireland.

According to a press release published by the group, it aims to influence the way gambling awareness education is delivered to young people and address the lack of information and help currently available.

Speaking about the programme, James Grimes, Head of Education at Gambling with Lives, said: “What makes this programme unique is that it includes the role of addictive products and predatory marketing in causing harm.

Apparently there is going to be a new education program for youths which would teach them about gambling, it would be not only unbiased but evidence based as well, they are going to put roles out in the open regarding the predatory market and how it's influencing the adolescents at this moment, I do think that this might be really helpful for certain cases because they are not shoo-in things away but rather teaching adolescents and talking about their issues.

What do you think about this initiative??

54  Economy / Gambling discussion / Uk most deprived areas have the Highest number of gambling outlets. on: September 06, 2021, 04:50:44 PM
According to the source :
https://www.theguardian.com/society/2021/aug/23/uks-most-deprived-areas-have-highest-number-of-gambling-outlets-report

The most deprived areas of UK are actually having more number of gambling outlets, which is a matter of concern for sure.

Apparently according to the source people are targeting the most deprived and economically weak areas which is sad. The companies are trying to scam people away and this is not working well for the people around since they might get addicted for sure.

How should they go about controlling these things? Should the government try and make laws to ban such behavior and such state? I think people should have a minimum wage for sure when it comes to gambling, what do you think ?
55  Economy / Gambling discussion / Credit cards and gambling (tabcorp, Australia) on: September 06, 2021, 06:06:34 AM
I remember the time I made the last topic about how the credit cards might be banned for the future gamblers. Apparently according to the tabcorp, banks are supposed to be responsible for the credit card bans.

They also provided the stats that only 14% of the users use credit cards and most of them use it responsibly. Therefore the ban would be enforced by the banks and not by any government and the authority.

At the same time, there was a statement that I did like in the whole news:
Quote
“If we got more information from the banks that a card was suspect, we could shut it down,” he added. “If the banks notified us that this was a problem, we would be able to stop dealing with that problem, but this flow of information doesn't happen.”

-Exactly the problem here.
The governmental bodies and the banks thoroughly oppose gambling sometimes but at the same time they are not working together with the companies to make sure it's safe and more practical and therefore it's indeed hard for them to point fingers even though they did not try to work together.

I do think this sends a strong message about how things can be done in a better way, what do you think about it ?

56  Economy / Gambling discussion / ESPN into a betting deal worth 3 billion dollars $$$ on: August 30, 2021, 06:59:23 PM
Quote
Walt Disney Co.’s ESPN is seeking to license its brand to major sports-betting companies for at least $3 billion over several years, according to people familiar with the matter, aiming to capitalize on the fast-growing online gambling industry.

The sports-media giant has held talks with players that own major sportsbooks, including casino operator Caesars Entertainment Inc. and online gambling company DraftKings Inc., the people said. ESPN has existing marketing partnerships with both companies.

https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.wsj.com/amp/articles/espn-explores-sports-betting-deal-worth-at-least-3-billion-11630089962

A very positive news perse since ESPN, is now trying to explore more of their options in the betting section now how do you think this might affect the industry??

They are trying to enter the online gambling industry and I do believe that they might try and dominate the market which is already heavily competitive but it might give the users more choice perse.

What do you think Huh
I do believe they might get involved with the crypto casinos too soon enough!!
Something to watch out for.
57  Economy / Gambling discussion / Credit card bans introduced in Ireland. on: August 30, 2021, 05:10:19 PM
Bookmakers have agreed to an industry wide ban on credit cards apparently they are a part of an updated code of safe gambling practices introduced by IBA. Therefore if you do live in Ireland then you have to take care of these things. It will be both applicable in online and offline shops.
Quote
The advertising ban meanwhile will be before 9pm, and will run from five minutes before the live sporting event until five minutes after, but will not include horse racing or greyhound racing.

Also not just that they have a whistle to whistle advertising ban being introduced.
Quote
“We recognise that there is a need for the industry to continue to develop the highest of standards for safer gambling,” said Byrne. “We believe in particular that the credit card ban and the 'whistle-to-whistle' advertising restrictions are significant steps on that path.

These might be a very good fit for the safer gambling regulations which is going to be there soon enough in Ireland.
Quote
“This Code is not the answer to problem gambling and we believe there is more that can be done within the forum provided by a regulator. However, we believe that these measures continue the journey the industry has been on in recent years, to ensure standards are increased for all.”

58  Economy / Gambling discussion / Nigerian government changing the state of lotteries on: July 12, 2021, 04:16:02 PM
https://www.gamblinginsider.com/news/12485/nigeria-federal-government-to-repeal-lottery-and-gaming-acts
If you are from Nigeria, you need to be up-to-date with the following article. The government recognized a huge potential in the lottery which can change the whole system. So what the government is going to do :
1. Make sure revenues are in order
2. Monitor the lottery system
3. Spread it all across
4. Better management
The reason why the government is doing this is because they want to look for a revenue source which is not only sustainable but unexplored in Nigeria.
There still will be laws and risk factors which the businesses have to adhere to in the upcoming days. Therefore it's not only going to be a profitable business but at the same time it's also going to give government huge revenue from the same.
Let's monitor what happens in Nigeria and let us hope that the revenue, taxation, rules, regulations won't be that harsh.
59  Economy / Gambling discussion / You got a pifzer ? Then you can be eligible for lottery in Poland. on: July 03, 2021, 06:39:52 PM
Months before we heard a news where to increase the chances of people getting vaccinated they government gave them a chance to win prizes, lotteries and even in some countries you are allowed to travel for free. Yet again the Government of Poland announced quite an unusual prize for people who have gotten pifzer. You are eligible to participate in the lottery plus the prizes are up to 260,000$!!!! Which is a great news. But unfortunately only 35% of the people in Poland are vaccinated yet. Not only that read this :
Quote
From 1 July every 500th person to take the dose will receive a cash prize of PLN200, while every 2,000th person will receive PLN500. The Polish Government will be giving away five prizes of PLN50,000 every week for three months, alongside the incentive each month to receive PLN100,000 and a Toyota Corolla for two lucky winners. The final winners will scoop up the PLN1m and a Toyota CH-R each... If you were thinking of moving to Poland, then now’s your chance. And if you need an electric scooter, they’re flogging them too, 720 to be precise.

Now that's a gamble that you gotta try! If you are from Poland then you have to get the shot! I do think this is an interesting gamble for the people there what do you think ? ?

Huge congratulations to everyone who not only won but also participated. The votes were not done by the general public, they were done by major CEO's plus there was a window for the self nomination.

What do you think ?
Are you happy with the results ? Did you expect someone else there ?

I do believe that the normal community should also be involved in such voting process, it would not only be more enjoyable but it would be more transparent for the people too.

What are your thoughts on this?
