1  Other / Politics & Society / The fight for racial justice in sports. (SICK OF TALKING ABOUT RONA) on: October 12, 2020, 07:38:28 PM
Watching the NBA final's last night, and listening to everybody (Adam Silver, Lebron James... etc) speak about the game and what this season has represented, I realized how radically different this season was, aside from the every game taking place in Disney World. It was impossible to watch an NBA game without seeing a message for racial justice, and a push against police brutality, as that was their goal!

I think it's a great thing that they've done, whether it's the changing of names on jerseys, messages painted on the court, pins worn by the head coaches and staff, advertisements... etc.
However, a part of me feels as if they may have gone down a road that they cannot turn back on. What will it take for a team, or an entire organization, to bring things back to normal? Once one team decides to revert to their old jerseys, for example, will the other teams follow suit? Will they face criticism? How will other sports react next season when the NBA continues to integrate the BLM movement into their games?

Personally, I'm surprised to see that leagues such as the MLB and NFL haven't faced any heat in terms of keeping up with the precedent the NBA has set this season in terms of how involved they are with the movement.

NBA Comish Adam Silver said on NBA Countdown last week that...
Quote
in terms of the messages you see on the court and our jerseys, this was an extraordinary moment in time when we began these discussions with the players and what we all lived through this summer. My sense is there’ll be somewhat a return to normalcy, that those messages will largely be left to be delivered off the floor.

What do you guys think about this?
How do you feel about what was done this season in general?
What happens next season if/WHEN something happens to spark another push for racial justice, will the NBA feel compelled to resume the messages we saw this past season?

2  Economy / Exchanges / Coinbase Legitimacy/Alternate ways of earning crypto on: February 25, 2020, 12:38:42 AM
Although I've been out of the loop recently... I've been in this space for some time.
With that being said, I was looking to get back into trading/investing/earning some crypto in my spare time.

I recently made a Coinbase account to do some trading and to use their services that they provide to new users to earn some small amounts of crypto.

However, in order to "verify" my account, I have to give information such a photograph of my state ID and credit card info.
I'm not one to willingly give away such personal information... is this something I should feel comfortable doing?
I'm aware of the fact that coinbase is pretty much synonymous with crypto-trading, I just need to hear it from the forum first as to why it's a safe move.

Furthermore, if anyone has any other suggestions, tips, or new methods for earning some crypto... I could use some ideas. I'll continue to search around the forum in the meantime. Thanks Smiley
3  Economy / Service Discussion / I'm Looking for New/Best Day-Trading Tools and Sites on: December 16, 2019, 08:37:58 PM
In the past few years, I've been investing on and off into some cryptocurrencies. I had been doing a good amount of day trading a few years ago, but I haven't revisited it since.

In the past I had been using sites like poloniex to trade, but I would like to know what sites or trading tools are most popular/efficient now as I might like to get back into trading.

I had been reading around online and found this page that seemed helpful... but I figured the forum would know best. Thanks Smiley

4  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Kevin O'Leary's Take On Bitcoin! on: May 20, 2019, 03:20:03 PM
Kevin O’Leary gives his take on Bitcoin!

https://youtu.be/SmjUvdJdlDM

This is a clip from a recent CNBC program, where Anthony Pompliano is discussing the recent rise in BTC value. Kevin O'Leary joins Anthony at the desk, and gives his take on Bitcoin as a whole.

As you’ll notice, Kevin is quite critical of Bitcoin. Yet, Anthony Pompliano brings up some interesting points to challenge Kevin.

I found this debate extremely interesting, and while the video is only a 7 minute clip, I thought I’d include some footnotes from their discussion….

Anthony Pompliano states that as institutions as well as retail are beginning to involve themselves with bitcoin and the blockchain, we are seeing highs in the volume across all cryptocurrencies.

He also credits the trade war, as BTC might represent a safe haven of currencies for those who feel unsettled by the trade war.
-He is hopeful that prices will continue to rise with the halving under a year away.
-Explains to Kevin that it reminds people that there is a limited number of BTC
-He refers to bitcoin “disruptive technology”
- Goes on to argue that bitcoin is a belief system, just as the US Dollar is
   - for two people who exchange bitcoin, it has value to each of them

Kevin mocks the halving, saying that it is too arbitrary.
-Goes on to denounce BTC further, saying it is “nothing but raw speculation” and is too volatile
-No interest
-Cant pay taxes
-Regulators don’t like it
-No long term value

Anthony Pompliano Rebuttals

-Says BTC is best performing asset in last decade
Contradicts Kevin’s statements by saying that BTC is a better store of value, more transparent, secure. In fact. regulators prefer it because criminal activity can be tracked and is more traceable as the ledger is public.

“Why can’t I pay my taxes with it?” Kevin asks.

-Anthony proceeds to point out that you actually can use it to pay taxes in the state of Ohio

Kevin continues to bring up points…
“All boats should rise with the water, not just bitcoin.” he says.

Anthony then concludes with this final argument as to why Kevin should invest in BTC-
“Bitcoin is a non-correlated, asymmetric return asset that the value drivers of your equities are tied to earnings, GDP, interest rates, etc.”

Other reporter- “Well the problem is Bitcoin isn’t tied to anything”

Anthony- “Neither is the US Dollar”

Unfortunately… Kevin’s mind remains unchanged, as he still declares Bitcoin to be “garbage”.

I’d love to know what you guys think of this debate. What are some points that were brought up that you found interesting?
Personally, Anthony Pompliano did an awesome job providing valid arguments for the seemingly know-it-all Mr. Wonderful.
5  Economy / Trading Discussion / Altcoin Trading and Managing Websites on: February 06, 2017, 11:40:30 PM
I have recently lost access to my Ploniex account for some unknown reason, as when I try to put in my username and password it doesn't work. I am debating just giving up and moving to another site.

What are some sites you would recommend for trading and managing cryptocurrencies besides Poloniex?

Thanks Grin
6  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Speeding up Bitcoin Transaction Confirmation Times on: February 04, 2017, 09:47:04 PM
I've recently been getting some pretty long transaction confirmation times. It may just be a product of bad luck, or my fee may be too low. However, using ViaBTC to speed up the process doesn't always work.

What are some other web services that I can use to speed up my confirmation time? Thanks Cheesy
7  Other / Beginners & Help / Buying goods on Amazon using Bitcoin on: January 22, 2017, 02:55:48 AM
I was wondering how I can purchase goods online using Amazon. Currently I spend most of my Steam games using bitcoin, but I don't use it for much else. Now that I am beginning to save up a fair amount of it, how

can I make purchases on sites such as Amazon? Do I have to buy Amazon gift cards using bitcoins, are there specific sites I need to get them off of? Thanks! Grin
8  Other / Politics & Society / Alien Secret Service Agent Guarding Trump?? on: January 21, 2017, 07:41:47 PM
No, I am not some crazy conspiracy activist, and no I do not search the web for proof of alien encounters. However, while watching the Inauguration yesterday I couldn't help but notice the strange looking security

agent sitting behind Trump, and how his eerily unnatural, almost alien-like bone structure looked oddly familiar to the case of the "Alien" security guard spotted in a conference with Obama awhile back.

9  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Mining With My Laptop on: January 20, 2017, 01:21:16 PM
I recently got a pretty powerful laptop with a 1060 gpu, but mining on it turns close to no profit, and overheats the device. Im looking to start mining for fun, but dont want to invest too much money. Therefore using a USB miner seems like the perfect option. However, will mining with a usb miner on my laptop still damage and overheat my PC?
10  Economy / Trading Discussion / Learning to Candlestick on: January 20, 2017, 04:07:06 AM
I am fairly new to trading, and understand a few concepts and strategies. One that I would like to use is chart analasys, however I'm not sure which sites are good for that. The only site I know of is Poloniex, but do I have better options? Is using candle stick charts even worth my time? Would love to learn, thanks! Cheesy
11  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Mining: Where do I start? on: January 20, 2017, 03:51:18 AM
I'm pretty new to the Bitcoin mining world, as I have just recently got a decently powerful computer. I understand that in order to make a sizeable profit mining you need some sort of rig/hardware, as when I try to mine with my GTX 1060 GPU I clock out somewhere around 1USD worth of BTC per day. However I am not looking to make a living, and I do not want to invest too much money into the hardware. What are some things I can purchase in terms of hardware that are cheap and simple? And where can I get them? Would love to hear your feedback and any additional information or tips for beginners would be great Grin
