1  Bitcoin / Armory / How to change path to both .armory and .bitcoin (36GB needed for both atm) on: January 31, 2014, 01:59:14 PM
I understand why .bitcoin is 17.6GB but why .armory is 18+ GB as well? Does it duplicate the blockchain?
Is that expected behaviour and what's the easiest way to move those folders to another partition and start armory with the new paths?

I read the troubleshooting, but it's a little confusing because i need to set the different paths for both dirs, right? and each of them used different syntax?

so if someone can give me an example would be great!
2  Bitcoin / Armory / Latest Armory doesn't work with latest Ubuntu, is it just me? on: December 28, 2013, 12:48:52 PM
Here is what happens
I downloaded and installed "Version 0.90-beta for Ubuntu/Debian 12.04-64bit" on Ubuntu 13.10 64bit
Installed bitcoind and everything else it asked for using the button in the app
It starts just fine, creates a wallet and downloads the blockchain.
Once it did that i closed the app.
When I tried to start it later, nothing happens when clicking on the icon. Literally nothing.
The offline and testnet icons start it just fine.
I reverted to factory settings from the offline version. But starting the normal Amory icon after that does the same. Nothing.
Sometimes after restart Ubuntu says there has been system error though.
The ubuntu install is fresh and with minimal stuff installed, so it should be clean and not a problem with something else.

Is it just me?
3  Economy / Service Discussion / Service/Wallet that supports multi-signature transactions by now? on: October 20, 2013, 07:54:17 PM
It has been in the protocol since 2010 as I can see but, yet no one really has implemented that into interface, is that right?
Blockchain seems to have had it for a while but then removed it
Multibit wallet is working on it but we don't know when it will be available
so we can only use it by command line with the original bitcoin client?

is there anyone else that i'm missing and has it?

and how come such significant feature is so under-used?
4  Other / MultiBit / Using multibit under linux runs with console? on: September 17, 2013, 11:46:23 AM
Ok when I start it a console runs in the background and the GUI in the front.
Is that how it's supposed to be?
Can we hide the console?

I'm using it on Debian if that matters.

Also it's considered now safe enough for significant amounts of coin? What's the encryption it uses for the wallet?
What's the best backup practices?
5  Economy / Services / How to send FAX online and pay for it with bitcoins? on: August 29, 2013, 02:18:41 PM
I need to send a fax (apparently there are people still accepting only this legacy form of communication), is there a site that I can just give the doc file and they can send it for me? I don't know anyone that has one of those old school devices Smiley
If I can pay for the service in bitcoins, even better! Smiley
6  Economy / Trading Discussion / Bitcoin cash out options at the moment for Europe? on: July 18, 2013, 01:16:21 PM
Since mtgox is really struggling doing wires, what are our current options to cash out our bitcoins at the moment, fast and easy?
7  Economy / Service Discussion / Did anyone get wire from mtgox after the suspension ended? on: July 18, 2013, 08:32:55 AM
It's been about 15 days after they started doing wires again and  i still haven't got my wire which was requested before the suspension.
Did anyone get a USD wire at all from them in the last 15 days?

8  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / How do you protect your savings wallet? on: June 07, 2013, 01:08:03 PM
Let's say you have one bitcoin-qt with your everyday wallet where you keep small amounts for every day transactions.
And then you want to have another, separate one with yours savings (eg big amounts) That you will use just occasionally.

How would you go about protecting it? Just encrypt it and move the file to different location and swap the files with the every day wallet (risk of error and accidental delete)? VirtualMachine with another install of bitcoin-qt? Or something else?

Let's brainstorm a bit what's safe, error proof and still not too cumbersome to use at the same time?
9  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Service doing bitcoin to wire transfers? on: May 29, 2013, 10:17:35 AM
I'm looking for something similar to what aurumexchange did.
You send them bitcoins, they send you wire.

Are there any other services that do that?
10  Economy / Speculation / Who does arbitrage, admit it now! :) on: April 11, 2013, 12:46:36 PM
I can't believe the difference in price i see between some of the exchanges.
Haven't followed that before, but I suppose those big differences are quite rare and mostly due to the crazy fluctoations at mtgox?
Otherwise it looks like too damn easy to make lots of money arbitraging.

Or I'm missing something?
I'm not experienced trader so...
11  Other / Off-topic / non-US shared and VPS hosts? on: February 27, 2013, 12:54:16 PM
I know the list of hosts at the wiki, but I'm looking only for the non-us and proven to be reliable ones.
So if you have used any of the non-us ones and happy with them, please post here! Smiley
12  Economy / Service Discussion / cheapest way to go from BTC to USD wire to someone else on: February 16, 2013, 03:19:49 PM
Ok I have BTCs i can sell them and withdraw to my bank account via mtgox and then wire to someone else.
But I would like to skip the extra step and just convert my btcs to usd and wire to a 3rd party directly and that way saving on bank fees.
What would be the cheapest way to wire your BTCs to USD bank account?
13  Other / Beginners & Help / Proven bitcoin (or LR, WMZ) accepting shared hosting? on: February 15, 2013, 03:44:00 PM
Ok there are many hostings already accepting those currencies, but i'm looking for a proven and reliable one not a fly by night one.
Also I'm looking for cheap shared account where they don't limit you by domains but space or traffic.
I want to host 10+ very small sites.
14  Other / Beginners & Help / Help me with reading blockchain transactions please on: January 25, 2013, 08:13:14 PM
Lets take this transaction for example
http://blockchain.info/tx-index/46391193/6367e35f17c0bbf8a8061dc9e231a8db650893f1ba916ff4ffeaa49421e8c76e

I sent just 0.2 BTC but for some reason it says there are 0.08 sent to one address and 0.2 to another.
From where those 0.08 come and what they have to do with my transaction?

I've seen that many times but now decided to test with my own transaction.

Is there a tutorial for reading blockchain transactions?
15  Other / Beginners & Help / Peer to peer exchange sites for online currencies? BTC/LR/WMZ on: January 25, 2013, 12:55:08 PM
Ok the only one serious I've stumbled upon so far is http://www.exchangezone.com/ and I would like to start the list with it.
The problem is that there is minimal bitcoin activity. If you have bitcoins involved in either end of the trade, forget about it.

It's quite active about Wmz, LR, WU, Wire and Money Gram trades in all possible variations though.

So i'm looking for something similar but where you actually have a chance to get offer involving BTC completed.

And I want peer exchange because so far that seems to be the only way to move money from one currency to another with none or minimal fees.
It even can be safe if you are careful and  trade only with trusted members.

For these of you who will mention https://www.bitcoinary.com/
well it's mostly paypal<>BTC trades, full of scammers and lacking support so...

do we have something else? Smiley
