1  Bitcoin / Press / [2017-03-11] Chinese Congresswoman: ‘PBOC Should be Responsible for Bitcoin AML’ on: March 11, 2017, 11:44:03 AM
According to Wu Xiaolin, the PBOC should be in charge of regulating bitcoin exchanges because the businesses involve certain aspects of anti-money laundering (AML), foreign currency management, and payment settlement. Wu explains the recent inspections were needed, so bitcoin is not a tool used for money laundering purposes. The congresswoman also states she hopes the bitcoin exchanges within the country are compliant with the new regulatory policies. However, she expressed bitcoin exchanges have so far been very cooperative and have carried out self-examinations.

“Bitcoin is a relatively successful application of blockchain technology,” details the translated commentary from congresswoman Wu Xiaolin. “Now different governments and regulators have different options on bitcoin. In China, we defined it as a digital asset. There are other countries considering it as a decentralized currency without legal compensation characteristics.”

CheapAir.com, the first U.S. online travel agency to accept bitcoin, has announced that it has witnessed a record number of bitcoin sales in the past six months, processing around $15 million in bitcoin payments for flights and hotels.

In November 2013, CheapAir.com decided to start accepting the digital currency after being introduced to it by a customer who wanted to know if he could make a flight payment with bitcoin. Since then, the travel agency has made it possible for travelers to use the currency to pay for flights and hotels, with new users paying with bitcoin every day.

Founded by Jeff Klee in 1989 in his college dorm room after planning his backpacking trip around Europe on a student budget, CheapAir.com takes a creative approach to fare finding using a patented algorithm that scours the web for the lowest prices seeking affordable airline tickets.

Senate, legislatures, and parliaments around the world have had many different approaches to handling Bitcoin. Many see a money grab avenue for taxation, while others criminalize it out of fear of competition. New Hampshire is officially moving towards liberating Bitcoin users from state regulations. Problems for Bitcoin use, by rule of law, have developed around the 2016 federal, not state, regulations by FinCEN that Bitcoin users and exchangers are “money transmitters” and need to register as “money services businesses.”

5  Bitcoin / Press / [2017-03-06] What You Need to Know About Bitcoin’s Upcoming Code Release on: March 06, 2017, 09:25:45 PM
Bitcoin’s best-known proposed code change isn’t the only one that matters.
The last couple of minor bitcoin code versions saw the gradual release of SegWit, an upgrade that has occupied the community’s attention as of late. The code change could have a beneficial impact in many ways and by most accounts, but because of reservations expressed by miners and other stakeholders, it's unclear if and when it will activate.
Despite the standstill, developers are quietly improving bitcoin in other ways.
The upcoming release – version 0.14.0 – is composed of performance boosts and long-in-the-making code shuffles that could pave the way for future upgrades. It'll be made available once a trial version successfully withstands testing by Bitcoin Core contributors.

I read a book about SEO (search engine optimization) and one question have not answered from the book.
What impact do comments have on search engine ranking (lets say the Google algorithm)?
Does a blog post which has a lot of comments will be better ranked than a blog post with no or less comments?

The beach-side city of Acapulco recently played host a bitcoin scaling debate, which saw personally-charged moments amidst the discussion. These days, whenever there is a bitcoin conference, there will inevitably be a scaling debate. Andreas Antonopoulos: Bitcoin’s Design Can Withstand Quantum Computer Attack
Could the NSA build a quantum computer that could break bitcoin? Bitcoin visionary Andreas Antonopoulos addressed this question in an audiotaped presentation posted on SoundCloud.
“It is certain that the NSA has already built quantum computers because Google has one at their data center, and if they have one, the NSA has one that’s ten times better, that costs as much as a moon mission, and can break encryption systems at a much better rate and with much more efficiency,” he said.

Learning Cryptography Through Bitcoin’s Proof of Existence Feature
Stored records held on the blockchain may not have legal implementations at the moment but very well could in the near future. For instance, the state of Arizona has introduced a bill recognizing blockchain-based contracts into the legal system. Even so, using the distributed database to safekeep certain data will make sure your records are cemented in history. This includes documents such as a will, a land title, digital copyrights, and more. Digitally storing your records on the Bitcoin blockchain takes a bit of practice but can be done by anyone.

12  Bitcoin / Project Development / Bitcoin and crypto coin logos for project? on: February 28, 2017, 10:19:50 AM
I need logos of crypto coins for a project.
I wonder if there is a freely available image package (best licensed under the Creative Commons) or an API, where one can retrieve it?
I have already tried known APIs like the one of CoinCap.io which sadly does not provide such data.
I do not want to use them for a commercial project, rather it is a kind of local wiki.
Thanks for your help!

Texas Gets Four New Bitcoin ATMs

Bitcoin ATM network EasyBit has deployed four bitcoin ATMs in Texas, including locations that sell gold bullion and guns.
The locations claim the two-way bitcoin ATMs drive new customers to their sites and offer an additional way to pay.
Becky Tyson, who owns Capital Coin & Bullion in Austin, said bitcoin is expanding. A customer came to the store to sell a bitcoin he received in exchange for a service provided. The customer was able to sell the bitcoin, so Tyson believes he will return to do business again.

Bitcoin Transaction Volumes Playing Increased Role Amid China Shakeup
“If you had told most people that the vast majority of Chinese trading volumes were going to disappear and Bitcoin was going to hold over $1,000, people would not have believed you just a month-and-a-half ago,” ARK blockchain products lead Chris Burniske tells Bitcoin.com. “That bitcoin’s value is potentially more supported by its transacting volume than its trading volume is counter to the narrative that bitcoin is supported mostly by speculation.”
Indeed, it appears the Bitcoin market is adjusting to new regulations from the People’s Bank of China (PBoC) regarding areas like trading fees, margin restrictions and anti-money laundering (AML) and know your customer (KYC) policies.

How much less is the power consumption of PoS (let' say Nxt, but could any other PoS coin) compared to PoW algorithms (e.g. Bitcoin)? And how advantageous is the PoI (NEM) algorithm to PoS? I tried to find information on the Internet, but I could not find a reliable source.

edit: exchanged PoW with PoS to make the question meaningful Smiley
