1  Economy / Currency exchange / Selling 5 BCH (BCC) for 100 XMR on: August 02, 2017, 02:47:17 PM
Hi

I want to sell 5 BCH (BCC) for 100 XMR
I have a high trust rating. You send me the 100 XMR first, then I'll send you the BCH. Willing to use an escrow if you pay for the fees and I approve the escrow agent.

Send me a PM Smiley
2  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / What is the perfect hedge for our bitcoins? on: August 20, 2015, 01:32:45 PM
if the current Block size drama is learning us at least one thing, then it's the fact that we need a hedge for our BTC investments. It's unsafe to keep all our eggs in the same basket, so diversifying is key, but where?

Let's look at what are -in my opinion- the desirable properties of a hedge in the cryptocurrency space:

* Not "the same" as bitcoin, so no copycoins with the same codebase.

Why?
Because these coins have the same problems as BTC, in the long run.
Remember: we are looking for a hedge, so something for the long term. We aren't gambling. Riding an LTC pump is fine, but by "investing" in LTC, you aren't hedging, you are speculating.

This rules out a lot of coins, for example LTC and DOGE (and 90% of the other altcoins).

I know, most of these coins use scrypt, but that is about the only difference. And you should note that there are already ASICs for scrypt, so not much diffrerence between BTC and these scrypt coins.

*the hedge needs features that can't be implemented in BTC, in the long run.

Why?
Because bitcoin has undoubtedly the first mover advantage. If a coin has a good feature, but that feature can be copied and just added to BTC, then it's not a good hedge. I would avoid "appcoins".
Also, when bitcoin becomes larger and larger, it will become harder and harder to change the base protocol. people will need to build things on BTC ("bitcoin 2.0") or connect things to BTC (sidechains). If changing a parameter from 1 to 8 is such a drama, then I don't think it is likely that a lot of fundamental changes can still be made to the bitcoin base protocol. bitcoin is ossifying...

This rules out a bunch of appcoins like maidsafe, ethereum, bitshares, dash and counterparty and NXT.

Counterparty: I never understood why we need the token XCP. I think this can be done on BTC (even without a sidechain I think)
Dash: is just a coinjoin implementation, that already exists on BTC. the "incentivized node idea" is decent, but flawed because not anonymous. Besides that, I never understood why a "masternode" needs to hold a certain amount of coins. Why just not reward all the active nodes?
Ethereum: I could imagine that a sidechain with ethereum features is perfectly possible.
Bitshares: Also possible on sidechains/colored coins
Maidsafe: I think a sidechain for storage is also possible.
NXT: All features can go on a sidechain, without a doubt, but this coin uses PoS, so I don't rule it out completely.

*fair launch, no shenanigans, decent (real) volume and "decentralized nature"

why?
Crypto land isn't a playground. We need to raise our level a bit. If we want serious money to invest in our crypto scene, we need to be serious ourselves and don't jump on every new shitcoin that is premined and act if it were the new gold and dump it a few weeks later...

This rules out coins like Dash (again), Ripple/Stellar and bytecoin

Dash: massive instamine in the first 24 hours of the coins existence (2 million coins)
Ripple/Stellar: a coin that isn't decentralized at all. The banks will maybe fork it for their own internal ledgers, there is no need for the coin itself.
Bytecoin: massive 80% stealth/instamine and fake volume on HitBTC

---

So which coins remain that also have a decent volume and market cap?

NXT, Peercoin, Namecoin and Monero

NXT: I'm was on the fence about this coin, but since I've read this paper by Andrew Poelstra about the flaws in PoS I'm less convinced: https://download.wpsoftware.net/bitcoin/pos.pdf

Peercoin: this is a good hedge against a flaw in PoW because it also has PoS combined with PoW. Seems a more secure solution AND it has the first mover advantage in the PoS space. But it doesn't offer anything else. And theoretically PoS could be implemented in BTC if needed (although unlikely).

Namecoin: This is based on the bitcoin codebase, but why do I include it in the "shortlist"? Well, I don't think a new decentralized naming system is fair, because that would render all registered domains on namecoin useless and invalid. However, I don't think it's a good hedge, because it's really a niche currency and has the same codebase as BTC.

Monero: this coin offers something that is very unlikely to be implemented in BTC: anonymous transactions and fungible coins through the unique combination of ring signatures and stealth addresses. Anonimity can be reached to a certain degree on the bitcoin network, but not fungibility. A good functioning money system needs to be fungible. I suggest you check out this video for more information about the tech behind this coin: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GEVm1dMn5Ks
Also, this coin has a small perpetual block reward, making this coin a hedge against possible problems in a fee market. I have doubts a fee market can function, so a small perpetual block reward solves this. Also, this makes the coin more fair for people who adopt this coin in the future. In 20 years time people will look at BTC and maybe think it's a scam because most of the coins will be mined. they will need to "buy in" the project of others. Monero won't suffer from this, or at least to a lesser extent.
It also has a different cryptographic curve than BTC, so this is an additional hedge
And it has a dynamic block size limit. No discussions about hard forking here...

---

So, here is my overview of coins. As you can probably see, I lean towards using Monero as a hedge. I think it fits perfectly. Also investing a bit in NMC, PPC and maybe NXT seems reasonable.

What are your thoughts? Smiley

edit: willing to change this post with your feedback. Will try to provide some links to document claims.
3  Economy / Services / [ETHEREUM] Presale wallet importing service on: August 13, 2015, 03:09:12 PM
Hi guys

Do you enjoy watching the ethereum pump, but you are not able to sell because you don't know how?
NOW is the time to send me a PM and free your ether from your presale wallet Smiley

As you probably know, it is for a non tech-savvy person not that easy to import a wallet into the Ethereum command line client and send it to your exchange account.

Well, here I am Smiley

I did this already 7 times for other people.
They were all happy to receive their coins within 30 minutes after they send me their presale wallet file and password.

I can do this for you too if you want, my fee is 5% on the ether amount that is inside the wallet.
You can check everything on the etherchain, I will send you the links so you can double check me Smiley

If you are interested, drop me a PM and we will get your ether to your exchange account ASAP!

% is negotiable if the amount of ETH is >= 2000 ETH

PS: check my trust here.

8  Local / Markt / [WTS] 2013 brass 1 en 0.5 Casascius coins met certificaat on: May 11, 2015, 10:19:47 PM
Hi!

I should probably explain a little what this "proof of existence" actually is and what it can be used for.

The printout you see in the photo is neither necessary nor adequate to proove anything, it's merely a printout of some data to make it easier to verify/find the data.

The actual proof that the coin existed at a certain point in time (in this case May 31st 2013) is in the Bitcoin Blockchain.

Here's what I did to produce this proof

  • Scanned the front and back of the coin and made one image from those 2 images
  • Took sha256 of that image (a tif)
  • Used that checksum as a bitcoin private key to produce a bitcoin address
  • Sent BTC 0.0001337 to that address

Here's how the existence of the coin on May 31st can be proven:

  • Take the .tif image of the coin and compare it to the coin itself to verify the coin at hand is the coin in the photo (this can be done very reliably by looking at little scratches and orientation of the firstbits and sticker)
  • Take the sha256 of the tif
  • Convert it to a Bitcoin Address (using for example bitaddress.org site or the method explained here. You can also import the private keys into a wallet and then take the addresses from the wallet.
  • Search for a transaction to that address in the blockchain (you will in this case find this transaction I used for the first 25 coins

Here's why such a proof can be useful in the future:

Currently it's highly likely there are no counterfeits of casascius coins around. It's just not worth the effort yet.

However assume it's the year 2023 and you decide to sell your precious 0.5 BTC coins back from 2013 when the first batch of these was made and the potential buyer is sceptical because there are now counterfeits around. Wouldn't it be great if you could proove that this coin has actually existed back in May 2013? It probably would increase the buyers confidence quite a bit. Well: you can.

Here's Mike himself suggesting resellers could do this:

Cryptography is one of those things that gives me a leg up on every possible counterfeited item in the world.

I assume my product WILL be counterfeited.  But when I start producing digitally signed PDF photos of my own product, I've got the counterfeiters beat.  The more possible I can make it for you guys to authenticate my genuine products, the more value a genuine product will have, and the less lucrative it will be to counterfeit them.

This will only work for products I produce from today forward, but here is an idea you can do right now.  The counterfeiting hasn't happened yet.  Go throw your current stash of Casascius Coins on a scanner, scan a photo of them, take a 160-bit hash of the file, and then work that hash into the block chain somehow.  Convert the hash to a bitcoin address and send a satoshi to it (my Bitcoin Address Utility can do this, for example).  Your photo with its supporting hash in the block chain will be publicly verifiable proof that the coin in your photo existed today.

10  Local / Markt / Trezors groepsaankoop on: April 19, 2015, 09:26:17 PM
Beste mensen,

11  Local / Nederlands (Dutch) / Gent Bitcoinstad on: February 10, 2015, 09:10:08 PM

Hi!

Let's show eachother how good or bad we are at trading by simulating trading in this game Smiley
The idea is that you get a (virtual) USD balance and you can either BUY BTC with your complete USD balance or SELL your complete BTC balance for USD.
To encourage "momentum traders" 2 trades need to be at least 8 hours apart.
If you want to join, please post a message in this topic.

Use this exchange rate:
Go to http://www.coindesk.com/price/ and use this exchange rate:

If your USD balance on the scoreboard is colored blue, use this exchange rate:
https://api.bitcoinaverage.com/ticker/global/USD/last

----------

RULES

Quote
§1 Everybody can join. Obvious troll posts will be deleted.
§2 You are not required to carry out the actual trades.
§3 Please post something in this topic if you want to join the game. Initial amount was 100 USD for people who registered before the start of the game. These players got a 100 virtual USD balance at 01 january 2015 00:00:00 UTC.
§4 New players after that deadline receive the equivalent of the median score from all the players to cancel out a bull or bear market in Bitcoin. Check the scoreboard for the current median score.
§5 You can post a trade by simply posting "BUY" or "SELL". "BUY" means to buy BTC with your full USD balance. "SELL" means to sell your full BTC balance for USD. Also post the exchange rate at the moment of your trade.
§6 Two trades need to be at least 8h apart.
§7 We use exchange rate data from the Coindesk BPI. Use the GLOBAL USD exchange rate (NOT the MARKET exchange rate)
§8 Volunteers will regularly check trades and update the scoreboard.
§9 Please notice that 'activity checks' can be carried out. Inactive players will get a penalty of 1%. You don't need to trade to be considered active. Post something in this topic from time to time and you are considered active. Keep an eye on the scoreboard for the activity checks.
§10 FAIRPLAY: There are no prizes, this game is just for fun. Don't edit or delete messages, don't alter the actual exchange rates or "make a mistake" when calculating your current balance. When others notice intentional miscalculations, you will be deleted from the scoreboard and excluded from the game.

----------

ACTIVITY CHECK

The activity check period is a 3 day period where the moderators check which players posted a message in the game topic and which didn't. There will be one activity check each month, more precisely in the last 3 days of each month. When an activity check is going on, you will get notifications in 3 ways:

1) you will see it in the topic title
2) It will posted frequently in the topic
3) your rank number will be colored on the scoreboard. green means OK, red means that you need to post something
additionally, you get a PM reminder for the first and second time you are in "the danger zone"

Penalty for inactive players:
first time: warning,
second time in a row: 1% of the balance,
3rd time in a row: 2%,
4th time in a row: 4%,
5th time in a row: 8%
6th time in a row: 16%
7th time in a row: 32%
8th time in a row: 64%
9th time in a row: removal from the game

Next Activity check: START 2015-06-28 00:00 UTC / END 2015-06-30 23:59:00 UTC

Reason behind all this:
if we don't do it, some people just forget about this game and they can be on the top of the list, without "actively being engaged with the trading"
Therefore, the rank will be colored. That is the place active players look. If you like this game, I bet you will check the scoreboard from time to time and you won't miss the colored rank number. In general, posting once every month is enough to not suffer penalties Smiley

Een deel van de Bitcoin Geschiedenis  Wink

Vraagprijs 0.15 BTC inclusief tracked shipping naar NL of BE

16  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / [ANN] Wall Observer Coin (WOC) on: November 18, 2014, 12:17:04 PM

Website: http://www.tinyurl.com/wallobservercoin
IRC: freenode #WallObserverCoin

WallObserverCoin (WOC) is a new cryptocurrency that uses the Proof of Post (PoP) protocol.
It was launched on 2013-04-16.
decentralized, fair launch (no premine), no special hardware required

How does PoP works?
People can mine WOC by posting at the official website.
Every post is a new block worth 1 WOC, except posts containing WOC-transactions.
1 WOC can not be divided.
Important rule: you can't mine a block for someone else (so no pooled mining!)

How to spend WOC?
Transactions can be broadcasted by using the folowing protocol:
1) find an unspent output you own
2) quote the unspent output
3) state the receiver of the WOC
4) broadcast the transaction by posting this information at the website.

Specifications
* Max supply: no maximum
* Block reward: always 1 WOC
* Block time: SPAM prevented by the MODs
* Difficulty: NaN

19  Economy / Speculation / Mining Supercycle - bearish phase? on: November 01, 2014, 03:24:13 PM
Somewhere in the back of my mind a therory is forming... I would like to call it the "Mining Supercycle"

As everubody knows, when the 2011 bubble popped, mining went down/stagnated
Until the next block halving, mining hashrate didn't move much. At the start of 2013 we saw the next big move, hashrane AND exchange rate

The two 2013 bubbles did pop but the hashrate didn't went down. Maybe miners are too optimistic about future return?
Current hashrate seems to slow down now. Could it be that we are entering a new "bearsih phase" in this supercycle?
Would this mean that we could go a lot lower exchange rate wise?

Remember: 2011: 30 USD to 2.5 USD
Now: 300 USD to... 25 USD Huh  Huh

I want to hear your thoughts.

PS: this is my most bearish prediction ever. I was a perma bull and sometimes too greedy. I think i've learned my lesson, that's why i'm trying to find counter arguments to the current "we are at the bottom" talks.
