I've been searching the forum for some threads about this, but couldn't find any. I've found some partial information, but nothing that resolves my doubt, so I've decided to open a thread.

I some quite availability to "scrap" or second hand computer hardware, and I was wondering what are the minimum requirements to run a public electrum server.
For what I've read, I do need to install Core and download the whole blockchain, so apart from the server, this hardware I'd build would be a Core full node. I may even think about opening a LN node/channel if there were no problems having all 3 things running at once.

I currently run a full node on an external HDD, not ideal, but I had all the materials so it didn't cost me anything. I'm unsure as to whether I could also run a server from there; installing another software that lets you run a server.

It would also be interesting to know if I could run more than one server on the same machine; say 1 open (public) server, and another private one (like this case of mocacinno last year).

Summing everything up, because I know my way of writing and thinking is quite caothic...

• Are there any minimum hardware requirements to run a electrum server?
• Can a electrum server be set up on an external HDD?
• Can a dedicated harware host more than one server at once? (plus Core node+LN node)
• Any more suggestions will be appreciated?

Es una buena herramienta para los crypto-entusiastas que trabajan online y tienen que estar descargando e instalando nuevos monederos (wallets) para los proyectos nuevos.
Recuerda que siempre tienes que revisar la seguridad y posibles amenazas de cualquier fuente desconocida antes de hacer nada (descargar, instalar, etc.)

Pasos a seguir para usar virustotal.com

(1) Accede al sitio
Puedes acceder a la web en: https://www.virustotal.com/en/

(2)Buscar posibles amenazas
Hay dos estrategias que puedes utilizar a la hora de buscar amenazas.
Como se puede apreciar en la captura adjunta, puedes analizar tanto un archivo o un URL.

Vamos a utilizar el monedero de GINcoin y su enlace como ejemplo práctico.

2.1. Comprobar enlaces
Lo primero de todo es asegurarse de que hemos seleccionado la pestaña de enlaces o URLs antes de proceder.
Lo segundo será copiar y pegar en enlace que queremos analizar en la barra de búsqueda, como se ve en la imagen de debajo:

Por último, pincha el botón de "escanear" y espera los resultados.
Resultados:

El ratio de detección es de 0/69.
No se ha encontrado ninguna amenaza, por lo que en enlace es seguro.

2.2. Comprobar archivos
Tras descargar el monedero de GINcoin desde la página oficial de GINcoin (la fuente oficial del proyecto), y antes de instalar el monedero, vamos a analizarlo con virustotal.com
Para empezar, seleccionamos la pestaña de archivo (file) antes de proceder.
Después, pinchando el botón de "seleccionar" (choose), añadimos el enlace al directorios donde tenemos el archivo que queremos analizar (si lo hemos descargado, lo normal es que esté en descargas). Tenemos un máximo de 120MB para el archivo que deseemos analizar.

Para finalizar, pinchamos el botón de escanear y esperamos los resultados.
Durante el proceso de analisis verás la siguiente pantalla

Cuando el proceso de escaneo termina, verás los resultados como en la imágen de debajo:

Para el monedero de GINcoin, el ratio de detección es de 0/69, lo que significa que no supone una amenaza (como hemos dicho más arriba; no es una amenaza conocida), y por ellos, es "seguro" instalarlo en nuestro dispositivo

Ambos análisis muestran que el monedero de GINcoin es seguro de instalar en Windows.

Es preferible que se realicen ambas comprobaciones (enlace+archivo):
1) Comprobar URLs.
Si los resultados del análisis del enlace son buenos, diciendo que no hay amenazas, deberías continuar al segundo paso.
Si los resultados del análisis del enlace muestran alguna amenaza, deberías parar de inmediato. No hay ninguna razón para seguir al segundo paso o descargar/instalar nada procedente de estos enlaces.
2) Comprobar los archivos despues de un análisis de enlace positivo (sin amenazas).

Esta claro que se puede ignorar el primer paso completamente y pasar al segundo. Todo depende de cada persona y lo precavido que se quiera ser, pero yo personalmente prefiero hacer ambos en orden.

3) Es conveniente crear una cuenta para poder acceder a más funcionalidades (de manera gratuita).

4) También puedes descargar archivos desde GitHub (publicados por cuentas recién creadas o de poca antigüedad), y escanear los archivos antes de utilizarlos/instalarlos (si son seguros). Recuerda que tienes que tener cuidado con los proyectos recién creados, y publicaciones de Github de cuentas "jovenes" (si no tienes pruebas de proyectos anteriores).
Además, hay pasos para comprobar la fiabilidad de una cuenta de Github (antigüedad, actividad, reputación en el pasado) antes de descargar nada de su Github.

After having the Altcoin boards on ignore for obvious spammy reasons, a project has caught my eye today, and I've decided to join. I figured that since I had replied to the thread, I could get to see updates both on "Show new replies to your posts" and "Watchlist". Much to my surprise, I've been receiving no update on said thread until I've un-ignored the altcoin board

I would understand that having a post on an ignored board wouldn't show up on "new replies", but the watchlist? You can select which threads to follow, so does it really make sense? And for the more tech savy ones... is there some kind of way to "whitelist" the thread you are interested in on an ignored board?

PS: posting on Meta and not B&H since this could be a suggestion to edit the threads showing on the Watchlist

I recall some kind of initiative either here or in Meta about how to make the most out of the BBCode that is used in the forum. Unfortunately, I've done a quick browse of the first 10 pages on both sections, and unless I accidentaly skipped it, it's buried far too deep for a "normal" or new user to find. That's why I've decided to bring some basic codes that everyone can use, and if any reply to this thread is informative enough, I'll be adding those too.

Lets get started!


Pretty much like in a Word document, you can get some words to be in bold, italics, underlined or striked. These work as follows

You can also stack them; and have a bold text in italics, or an underlined text striked. You just have to keep in mind the order of the effects. If you want something to be bold and in italics, you can use either one of this 2 codes:

BUT, if you open with a BOLD, you have to close with a BOLD. Because otherwise, this happens:

This one is easy if you use imgur, because you can directly copy the BBCODE in the "get share links" button. Nevertheless, always keep in mind that the forum proxy does only accept PNG files (if I'm not mistaken).

First of all, I'd like to apologize if I'm posting on the wrong section, but I believe that this is the closest to my intentions. If you really believe this shouldn't go here, please point me out to where I should move to thread.

Having said that, and as it has been discussed here, I'm starting a costum Bitcoin related LEGO crafting stuff that I don't really know how to describe. Point is, I've already made my first (not vevry complicated) design, and that's what I'm selling!

What do I mean saying "I'm selling the design"? Well, it takes quite some time to think about a model, then craft it and make sure there are no issues with it. For that, I use a designing software, so once the design is 100% ready to be sold, I bring it here, if anyone is interested in buying, s/he buys it and then, I order brand new pieces (let's play safe, we don't want no COVID-19), and once it's assembled, I ship it to the buyer.

Now that the basics are explained; here comes the first design:



What am I seeing? Welp, I know it may look kinda basic, but that's the http://Bitcointalk.org QR code (fully functional), followed by a BTC logo (okay, yeah, it's basic but I had to start somewhere).

And the funny stuff, what is the price for this? You are looking at a 64*32 LEGO(branded) piece, so if any of you has ever played with LEGo, you already know that it's not the cheapest material, altough it's quality is amazing. This model will be selling for 60€(EUR) + shipping fees.

Is this a final model? No, if you are interested in doing so, some things can be changed; but with those changes, price will also change.

Can I buy more than one? Definately; and even better, that will "reduce" the shipping fees, and maybe, the original price (in case I get a discount). This last part also applies to different people buying it at the same time.

As many of you may already know, many countries have started quarantaining because of our latest virus... I've been lucky enough of being home and while doing a closet cleanup, I found my old LEGO sets. As the days are long enough, I thought it'd be funny to see if I could get a LEGO made QR code read on a scanner, so I tried it with one of my BTC addresses: 33uqr6sPXin4zbxDjQbXFtvWzcK4FB1sXp

Surprisingly, it worked! (I mean surprisingly, because I almost run aout of small blocks and had to start improvising with triangles and stuff) You can try it too, zooming out the screen and reading it if you do not really believe my words.

Now, getting to the point, I thought this was a rather funny activity the end result, had I had all the right blocks, would have been really neat. So I've given it a thought, and I'd be willing to start a kind of service here on the forum, to people who may be interested in having a wallet QR hand made with LEGO blocks! But, since it's a rather rough idea, I'll just place it on service discussion, and then, if I see people would really be interested on it, I'd consider moving it to..... I guess collectibles?

Pues a raiz del confinamiento, estoy teniendo mas aburrimiento del habitual, y en una de estas me ha dado por ordenar un armario de casa. Ahí me he encontrado con un monton de antiguos bloques de LEGO, y se me ha ocurrido una idea: Si hago un QR de un wallet, seria escaneable?

A la hora de votar, el número es para la cantidad de semanas que se va a alargar el confinamiento. EJEMPLO:  Si no me fallan las fechas, teóricamente va a durar esto de lunes 16 a lunes 30. Si piensas que en lugar de eso se va a alargar hasta el lunes 6, pues votas "1 semana". Lunes 13 "2 semanas" .... etc

Propongo una porra pero en principio sin dinero, que somos pocos y no creo que nadie quiera tener que ser responsable de cuidar dineros ajenos

Recently, I've been giving some thought to flags and "disposable" accounts used in the lending board to try to scam by defaulting the loan. It is my understanding that flag type 1 can be used when, even if there has been not malicious act; the intentions may be, and the flag acts as a warning. So for that same reason, I've decided to create the thread; so that instead of creating a new one for each user that looks "suspicious enough", and taking into consideration that the reason would be the same for all the flags; I see no harm in using a single one to place all of the flags, and using the post rather than the thread as a reference.

I'll leave a couple of examples on the post below this one; and will use this one to display a table of all the flags created, linking each flagged profile to the post of reference. Anyone can create a post to flag here; this is not just for myself.

Will this stop people creating disposable accounts? I hope so, but believe it not. However, I do believe that if the account gets burnt fast enough, scamming is less likely to happen.

Edit: I am not saying that every user who gets flagged is a scammer; if any user believes that has been incorretly flagged, that can be discussed here (as it will be the reference thread) and the rest of the users will decide whether to keep supporting it, oppose it, join it or whatever they wish

I've come across some pice of news (in Spanish), about and update on the Wright trial. It turns out, that during said trial, some guy has sent a letter claiming to be the real Satoshi, and staring Wright is nothing but a bunch of lies (nothing new here) the letter can be found

It is most likely another stupid attempt to claim the rights over BTC, but I wonder why people still do this...

As we all may be aware of, there are certains accounts in the forum that are.... a huge pain in the ass (to say the least). To bring an example, the recent "situation" with game-protect (flag thread here, and negative trust retaliation here).

To simplify this; a well know spammer/"almost scammer" has received a flag, and made some negative trust retaliation; which is quite useless, but has also been spamming threads created by people supporting the flag. Mods have deleted most/all of the spam replies, but that doesn't feel like enough (for many).

Now, this is a recent example, in which I got a bit caught, but there are many other cases out there (personally, I'd add The-One-Above-All to the list; who is on many peoples' ignore list as an example, because of his constant useless replies), and I'm sure a longer list could be created, but I don't think it's neccessary for this.

After giving it some thought; I believe I've reached something that could be considered a solution: the same way some global moderators/admins can perma-ban users for X reasons; there could be a system to vote on some users that despite not being actually breaking rule forums enough to be perma-banned (example of GP getting posts deleted and nothing else), they are well known to be some kind of "cancer" (maybe the word is too hard, but it's late night and I cannot come up with something better) and in case some kind of agreement is reached; said user could get perma-banned. I'll further explain:


Say I've been posting shit for the last year and scamming people and doing some nasty stuff, enough to have my account veeery very red painted; but as I would technically not have broken any forum rule, I'd still be able to do the nasty stuff here.

But, the nasty stuff I've been doing is so nasty; that at least 30 DT1 people would support my perma-ban (some more thought has to be given to this, since DT2 and non-DT users should also have a saying). Then; like with the flag system, someone could create a thread saying: "Let's perma-ban Csmiami/ Csmiami should be expelled from the forum" or something similar.

In the thread, similar to flag system, all the adecuate information on why that should happen should be provided. Since it's some serious thing, the user in question would receive an email/PM notification, in order to be able to defend his stay on the forum. And on the trust/somewhere over the user profile page; a little window to provide your vote.

I have not said 30 DT1 members randomly before; I consider it something difficult that 30 people agree on something; judging by how responsible some/most of those members are. But, since it's just a rough idea, that could be modified.

Esta mañana, mientras hacia algo de tiempo; he decidido darme un paseo por un centro comercial casi muerto que hay en mi barrio. Para mi sorpresa; desde la planta baja me ha parecido ver una especie de B con unas barritas, y con el pensamiento de "no puede ser que haya un cajero BTC aquí", he subido y.... efectivamente! Se trataba de un cajero "nuevo"



Por curiosidad más que otra cosa, he decidido probar suerte y ver si realmente funcionaba, ya que a ojo la comisión de compra era de aproximadamente 0.45% (no me parecía nada descabellado).



He introducido solo 5€, ya que desconocía la fiabilidad del mismo, y no es lo mismo que te roben 5 a 50....

Una vez introducido el dinero; he escaneado el QR de mi dirección. También existía la posibilidad de imprimirlo y tenerlo a modo de paper wallet. El lector ha sido sorprendentemente rápido, y una vez seleccionada la dirección, me ha dejado elegir que comisión de minería quería aplicarle



Una vez seleccionada, se le da a enviar... y la maquina imprime un justificante de la compra

Como saben que ando "un poco metido" en el entorno crypto; me han preguntado a ver si es algo posible/real.

Tal y como està redactado (y desde el movil no se puede indagar mucho en el asunto) les he comentado que todo apunta a un sistema piramidal de los que pegan un buen pelotazo mediatico al reventar. Escucho/escuchamos vuestras opiniones sobre el tema (desde luego, les he desaconsejado invertir ahí)

Hello. I think not, i will buy btc later today and send you during the day. If there will be any need for extension ill let you know

That happened on 27th June, so that "later today" has become 5 days. I've waited for 72 hours before escalating a late loan to a defaulted one, but since user seems to be ignoring my PM's and is still active (has loged in every day after not repaying); I have no choice but to consider this a defaulted loan.
