1  Other / Off-topic / Take Showers, Not Baths on: May 25, 2018, 02:38:13 AM
An article on the Telegraph says that the head of the Environment Agency is warning England of the need for personal water targets. In particular, people should take showers instead of baths. They are urged to use less water and companies are asked to curbed leaks in order to to prevent future shortages and damage to rivers and wildlife. Apparently, many of their sources of water supplies are already overstretched. Couple that with a growing population and climate change, much of England could face supply shortages by the 2050

Wake up, people! We should all be afraid of our resources depleting. It’s not just drought, but food and clean air as well.

What if the time comes when we’re asked to not even take showers anymore?

CNBC’s report praises the Oculus Go –our $200 ticket to virtual reality, courtesy of Facebook. According to the article, despite the short battery life, the reasonably priced headset is a fun gadget to own. It’s packed with apps, games and HD movies (which the author describes as being transported to a huge empty movie theater with a massive screen).

Facebook is indeed, helping virtual reality go mainstream, proving how the revolutionary technology can be viable tool for supporting art, science and entertainment.

With a gadget that is both fun and functional, how can we not explore this virtual world?

I remember seeing a post on Slashdot describing how Nectome’s cofounder, Robert McIntyr is pitching a start-up that will use technology for preserving brains in microscopic detail using a high-tech embalming process particularly, future scientists will be scanning the brain and turning it into a computer simulation. In other words, one gets to be an immortal in a data server somewhere.

This attracts more attention to the much talked about possibility of designing a virtual space where our digital selves can live forever.

In world flawed by corruption, sickness and violence, one can’t help but consider living a better life in a virtual space.
