https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2018-04-18/bitcoin-miners-facing-a-shakeout-as-profitability-becomes-harderLarge miners Bitmain, Bitfury are seen increasing dominance Dorm-room miners are becoming a relic of the Bitcoin bubble
Even with the price back above $8,000, many of the so-called miners that perform the complex calculations to generate the digital currency are at risk of turning unprofitable. If prices drop below that threshold again for an extended period, there will likely be a swifter consolidation to industrial-scale mining. That could knock out the last guy-in-a-dorm-room operations and leave holders of the currency vulnerable to the dictates of the big miners.
“It’s totally different this year than last year,” Silicon Valley venture capitalist Bill Tai said in an interview. “The bitcoin mining industry was this mysterious dark cottage industry, and it’s about to grow up and about to have elements of institutional scalability at all levels."
Smaller miners will drop out, and only five to 10 of the largest will survive and be profitable, said Tai, who serves as chairman of Hut 8 Mining Corp., the capital financing arm in North America for Amsterdam-based Bitfury Group Ltd., one of the biggest makers of crypto-mining equipment. When the price of Bitcoin approached $19,000 last year, Bitfury had to turn some customers away as $1.9 billion of orders streamed in, he said. U can check out the rest of the article over at bloomberg. Looks like they finally picked it up. I suggest dont go all in or too deep into mining guys. This bubble will burst and will end badly for some.

How often u guys do it. Once in 2 months? Mine has air filters installed to remove duat as well.
Does bitmain have an official number?

In 2017, btc rose from 1k to about 20k, about 20 times. Mining difficulty rose alot.
This year, avalon and ebit will release newer stronger models for btc. Bitmain still sells S9 as normal. Thus, we should expect mining difficulty to increase abit more than usual due to the stronger models.
That being said, it is very unlikely that bitcoin will rise 20 times this year again but it is likely that the machines will still be sold by manufacurers for profit.
Thus, btc mining might turn unprpfitable later in the year or give very low profit.....kinda like the D3 and kinda like wat happen to OIL prices when shale oil producers pumped out too much oil.
As a miner, I really hope to be wrong. What do u guys think?
|
|
|
Those prices make no sense.
Do they realize that the spot profitability will definitely last for more than a few weeks and it will go down to normal levels. Those people will never breakeven.
Also, it seems alot more people think they can run this equipment at home without proper a proper setup? The setting up cost is pretty costly too...especially if u need to remove the noise. This year will see other manufacturers like avalon and ebit churn out new stronger bitcoin miners. It is not just bitmain anymore. This is without adding the risk that new stronger chips from manufacturers appearing...and making old models earn less or obsolete.
Furthermore, mining was profitable in 2017 only because bitcoin went up 14 times. That wont be happening in 2018. Btc mkt cap at 200 billion right now, is not gonna go to 2800 billion lol. If total crypto mkt cap goes up by 14x, it would be more than gold valuation as well, again not possible in a year....
Those news companies are pumping crazy hype and belieft into new miners via their news articles??

And this time it showed 2 hashboards down. Should I be worried?
Is this a bad sign of things to come? It is running around 65 degrees now. My other machines are all fine though
|
|
|
A chart to show the profitability of mining in the past?? I wanna input the hashrate and the electricity cost and it brings out a chart of how much profit per month it would make, now and in the past. I know market rate is good now but it tends to go down.

To those suffering and unable to see their hashboards, consider changing your ethernet cable. Thanks to woodgiins https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=2274299.20I was using Ugreen right angled ethernet cable and I changed it to a normal one and guess wat, my hashboard appeared. This happened on two occasions on 2 different antminers. I am surprised.. Try it perhaps? Before These were the problems before on 2 different miners and all 3 hashboard work fine now For the first pic, I updated firmware as well This has worked for woodgins as well.

Mine is antminer S9 14TH Dec Batch.
The miner worked fine fine at first. Suddenly 1 hashboard missing. It does not xxx. It was just missing. It shows up later, all Os.
I off and on antminer and it re-appeared. I was happy again. I let it mine at default for awhile and it worked fine. Later on, i changed mining settings to point to my worker. It restarted and only 2 boards work. 1 failed. I had to soft reset via pressin the reset button to get all 3 boards working again. It worked at default setting, mining to default worker. When I changed it to my worker, again only 2 hashoards work. And further soft resets and reboots result in either 2 hashboards, 1 hashboard or no hashboard working. I let it try as much as 30mins and it can still detect 0 hashboards at times.
The hashboard never shows xxxx. It either shows up or dont. It always shows all 0000
Is it my control board spoil? Or firmware? It was working fine before. I bought 5 antminers in this batch and the other 4 are fine. I am using bitmain psu and I have already tested this on 2 bitmain PSU (both new). I still have 1 new one to test on.
I remember it showed crc error = 0 or something while my other working mines shows crc = 0. I will double check on this more when i get back. The hashboards red light all light up at start and later on only 2 light up, if 2 boards work, etc. Sometimes only 1 work. It is kinda random on restarts.
Odd thing is when 2 hashboards are working, sometimes it it is the middle and left board working (basis the red light on it) and sometimes it is the middle and right board working...most of the time is middle and right board working...wats going on?
Any idea what is wrong pls?

Do u? Off your antminers say once in 2-4 weeks to change air filters or any other reason?
Is it ok to SSH and poweroff it like that once in awhile? Or are the miners better off running 24/7?
|
|
|
What are your antminer L3 temps and what are ideal temps for it?
|
|
|
Right now, I have about 324 usd in bitcoin in exodus wallet and i can only withdraw up to 252 USD max because the rest will be fees. This is because I have been receiving small daily payments in bitcoin from mining to this wallet.
Earlier i withdraw 60 dollars and got hit by about 130 USD in fees...this is insane
How do I stop this? Pls advise Do u use a different mining wallet?

Antminer S9 13.15 TH - Antminer S9 13.15 TH - I dont understand it. Both are 13.5 TH miners. They are located next to each other on a shelf. However, they have different temperatures. And the oddest part is that the chip with the lower temperature on the miner have lower HW errors. Why?
|
|
|
My cooling is basically a big box fan. If the box fan were to malfunction or trip, my room would overheat quickly and my miners will overheat too. I know the miners have overheat protection but is that good enough? Does the antminer switches itself off completely when that happens or goes into some standby mode where it is still turned on? I would hope it turns itself off completely as I might not realize it for hours...
So, do u guys install an electrical device (a contactor or something) to switch off the power if the box fan were to fail? A fail-safe as u could say.
A surge protection device is necessary in case of lightning strikes. Is there anything else to install?

Is that really ok? Do u have antminers S9 running for over a year under 90 degrees?
My D3 running up to 72 degrees celcius and my S9 up to 81 degrees.
Wat temperature do u run your machines at? Bitmain manual says it will stop at 125 to 135 degrees celcius but that is really high...

Do u put an anti-static ESD mat for your antminer shelf? Pls advise.
I wondering if needed.
Will it help in any way? Increase lifespan of mining equipment or safer?
I notice no topics on this lol

Anyone use it at that humidity and without problems? My location has 31 temp, 65-70% humidity.
I will be using fans to remove the hot air in the room after ducting the outlet through a wall. However, with fans, there will be pretty high airflow and thus, dehumidifier will not work so well yes. Thus, is it ok to let it run at 65-70% humidity?
Iceland has higher humidity at 85% from wat i see in google.
