1  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Having Trouble with 5x 7970's on an ASROCK Extrme4 on: February 21, 2014, 09:10:28 PM
I have a few rigs with 5 7950s running on 970 EXE4 and 990 EXE4 mobos and they have been running fine for almost a year running litecoinbamt.

Gotta boot into failsafe with BAMT for it to recognize all 5 cards.

2  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / Re: Any ASRock 970 Extreme4 owners out there? Problems with GPUs on: February 13, 2014, 05:17:44 PM
I have a couple rigs with these boards.  All with 5 GPUs.  All the rigs use risers on all cards.  Three X16 unpowered risers and obviously X1 risers in the X1 slots.

Every board seems to be different in the combo it likes.  One you have to short the presence pins on the second X1 slot one you dont.  One you need powered risers on the X1 slots one only needs one X1 slot powered.

Easiest way is to just have all the parts ready and just try it out until you get it running.

Im not sure if you can mine CPU and GPU at the same time.  Im su9re its possible but I dunno what problems it might cause.

With Windows you are probably gonna have to do some tweaking to get all your GPUs to work.  Like make up some dummy plugs, and make sure you run the two MAX_ALLOC... commands.  Forget exactly but youll find them if you search.

If this will be a dedicated mining rig I suggest using Litecoin BAMT.  It seems complicated but its really alot easier and my BAMT rigs run 24/7 for months.

If you dont need a PCIe power connect and your pulling all of the power from the slot then you def need to power those risers.
5  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / Re: Any ASRock 970 Extreme4 owners out there? Problems with GPUs on: January 31, 2014, 12:02:58 AM
I use the same board with 5 gpu's type  r9 290 cards.

No shortening needed for a Asrock 970 extreme 4

I use two 16 x16 riser cables on the first en second 16x slots. The are working than at x8.

The last  16x slot can only be occupied with an 1x riser cable, because an 16 to 16x cable in this last slot  would block the pcie x1 slots from working.
the other x1 slots can now work with  x1 risers (see manual).

Install one by one starting with the first x16 x 16 cable than the other 16 x16 cable on the next 16 slot and than a x1 cable in the last 16 slot
Always easy continue to install in this hierarchy

It some time takes a lot of energy to customise a system. It is although strange  that the same type of board is not always working the same way.

Good luck

I use X16 risers in all three X16 slots and I run 5 GPUs on this board.  After building a few rigs for friends and my own few rigs I have come to the conclusion that each mobo / GPU is different and you just gotta see what it is gonna take to make your setup work.

One mobo want the X1 presence pins shorted one doesnt.  One will run with all 5 cards on a 1.09V BIOS one wont, one wants powered risers in the X1 slots one doesnt care.

Just gotta figure it out.  Easiest way is to pay attention and figure out what you have done already.   Just going at it switching things around will get you no where and aggravate you.  If you want to check the powered risers part then check each card remembering which ones you have done.  Write it down so your not trying the same thing over and over again.

You have to figure out which combination of powered / not powered risers, presence pins, BIOSs, etc will work.
6  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: PCIE risers or not? on: January 29, 2014, 04:58:42 PM
The thing is when you put three cards in a case they are so close together that the cards dont get any airflow.  I have three 7950s in my Thermaltake Level 10 and I have to keep the side off with a box fan blowing at max on it just to keep the top card below 80 C.

Open air rigs are a way better choice.  Either go the milk crate route or build a little thing out of wood.  You might not think so now but you will want to OC the cards once you get it setup and see the hash rate you get out of stock clocks.

Hey, first of all, if you could get good used ones(used by gamers) in either craigslist or ebay, go for it. I got mine used for $200 and mines at 800kh/s. And also just buy powered extender cables to manage heat and excess current on the board.

GPUs good to use:

5970 - 800 Kh/s
6990 - 800 Kh/s
7950 - 780 Kh/s
R290x (obviously it's brand new) - 800+ Kh/s

And get a good PSU. Don't mind the power bills, because if you do, it would be late to have one and difficulty on most coins will soar.

P.S.
You could resell those stuffs to some gamers later(at the same price you got them). Grin

This makes no sense.  The KHs numbers are way off.  Like I said before you really need to do alot of your own research.  You can find all the answers here or on other boards.  Even if somebody tells you what you want to know you will be right back here when you are trying to build or tune your rig because you wont have read anything.  So its either read on your own and be able to find the answers to your questions (you will have many even if you buy a rig already built) or ask and wait for a response every time you have a question.

For general Scrypt GPU specs/speeds/etc go here.

https://litecoin.info/Mining_hardware_comparison#AMD_.28ATI.29

Do realize that some people exaggerate theyre speeds though.

Dont mind the power bills?

Um yea if you end up spending $350 a month in electric and only get $250 a month in coins then you should just buy coins instead of pay $1200 a year for nothing.  So please DO mind the power bills.

You have this amazing forum here like a book with all the right answers.  If you are not willing to research then it will take you months to get your rig up, running, and tuned.

I have two rigs with 5 7950s one using the 970 EX4 and one using the 990 EX4.  Theyre both the same.  You just have to figure out which combo of risers, no risers, powered risers, not powered risers, short/no short presence pins, which card to hook monitor too, etc.

Any more than 4 cards HAVE to boot into failsafe mode.  4 and under and you can boot regular but over 4 you need failsafe.

Took me almost a week to figure it out thats why I havent touched my rigs in months.

Manual payment went through finally.

Will update if auto payout works.

Neither auto or manual payout is working for me.

Auto set at 500 and have 2K on there.   Tried a manual payout a couple of hours ago and it still hasn't sent.

Please update us.
12  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: How long have you run cgminer without crashing for? on: January 05, 2014, 06:38:50 PM

almost once every month, sometimes cgminer just randomly freezes for no reason..

I dont think I have ever saw cgminer freeze.  The only times I have had to restart it was when a card showed up dead or sick.

What version of cgminer are you using?  I still think it comes down to finding a good mix between Intensity, TC, clocks, and driver.

It toook me almost two weeks of testing to get my rigs running right.  But now I dont have to touch them for months.
13  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: How long have you run cgminer without crashing for? on: January 05, 2014, 02:09:58 AM
I really feel like the best way to go is with BAMT.  I do have a Windows rig also though.  My Windows (Cool rig will run for months without needing restarted.  What I have found with Windows is you have to use the right driver.  I am using 13.1.  I tried all different kinds of drivers and once I found 13.1 and got my cards running good I will never change it.

I get 620 KH/s per card (7950's).  Runs stable non stop for months if I dont mess with it.

I only have experience with my 7950's but I think each brand card has its own sweet spot between drivers, and config (TC, Intensity, etc).

14  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: Old wallet.dat file all trans greyed out on: November 07, 2013, 08:52:02 PM
I figured it out.  It was a LTC wallet file.  Got them confused somehow.

It would be nice if they were named different or something.
15  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: Old wallet.dat file all trans greyed out on: November 07, 2013, 05:00:02 PM
Privacy.  Im not the only one.   I've saw quite a few others block addresses and stuff.

I deleted the block chain and let it download again and no help.
16  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Old wallet.dat file all trans greyed out on: November 07, 2013, 06:52:37 AM
I found an old wallet file and when I loaded it into the qt client it says balance 0 unconfirmed balance 41 BTCs.

There are a bunch of trans in the trans history but they are all grayed out.  I ran the client with the -rescan argument but it still shows the same thing.

Looking through the trans I do remember some of the trans but when I go to blockchain.info and try to search and of the addresses and tx's all the addresses show 0 sent 0 received and all of the tx's cant be found.

I remember some of these trans so I know they took place.

Anyone have any idea on what to do here?  Any help / suggestions would be great.

One other thing is that under addresses it shows two addresses but where the address is it only lists the first 6 characters of the address.  Even if I right click and click copy address is only does the first 6 that are showing.

Weird.

Thanks

17  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: RAM concern on: July 24, 2013, 11:22:29 PM
Not too sure on this.  I have read conflicting things.  I read you need to have 1/2 the ram that you do video memory.  I have rigs with five 7950s and 8 GB DDR3 but they only use about 2 GB total.  So really I dunno.  But ram is so cheap these days I wouldnt worry about it.  If you end up needing more just go buy some.  Its cheap.
18  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: Anyone have any idea how to control a Win 8 rig from another room? Wireless KVM? on: July 24, 2013, 06:21:58 PM
And in the end using another computer as a client may not end up working.

I have tried chrome RDC, Logmein in , and ultra vnc and I dunno why but my rig will BSOD if I mine and remote access at the same time.  I can do one or the other but not both.  I even tried turning the intensity down on the card the monitor uses and it still BSODs.

So I dunno but if I can't figure it out I guess it's back to trying to find a decent non line of site KVM.
19  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: Anyone have any idea how to control a Win 8 rig from another room? Wireless KVM? on: July 24, 2013, 06:18:14 PM
If anybody read any part of the thread they would see we were not talking about connecting two computers.

Yeah but what you were asking was "how to control a Win 8 rig from another room". We gave you the appropriate answer, which was also the most cost-effective solution. We're goal-oriented not process-oriented here.

Yea but you should at least read the first post in a thread.  Even if just going off the title you should think why would anyone want to use a wireless KVM to control a computer with another computer?  And for what I was asking a wireless KVM / VGA extender is the right solution?   The only reason I chose to use another computer was because I could get the Chromebook for the same price and use it for other things.

But either way I thank everyone for the suggestions and apologize if I was being a d***.

20  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: Anyone have any idea how to control a Win 8 rig from another room? Wireless KVM? on: July 24, 2013, 04:29:50 AM
What about RDP, LogMeIn or Team Viewer?

I second the LogMeIn recommendation. Free and nice and easy to setup, accessible from anywhere in the world and will even let you wake on lan if it's configured.

If anybody read any part of the thread they would see we were not talking about connecting two computers.  That's very easy.  Before this post the thread was about hooking a computer in one room up to a monitor, mouse, and keyboard in a different room.  NOT two computers in two different rooms.

That's what I ended up having to do though.  I ended up just buying a cheap laptop to use as a client.

I bought a Chromebook and hooking it up to my monitor, mouse, and keyboard.  Then I use logmein or ChromeRDC.

The price of a decent non line of site VGA extender or wireless KVM is as much or almost as much as a Chromebok.  And I can use the Chrmebook for more and now that I am playing with it the Chrome OS is actually really cool.
