binance got my 2fa reset within 24 hours
bittrex took 2 days
hitbtc has yet to take care of the issue, going on 4 days
after reading into this, it's more common than you'd expect.
it should be fairly easy for an exchange to verify a 2fa reset request, so i think it's vital that exchanges hire a unqiue support team to deal with this specific issue only..especially if they continue allowing google authenticator.
a simple solution to this problem would be exchanges disallowing google authenticator and replacing it with authy, which is connected to a phone number, giving you easy access in the event that your phone is lost.

definitely support on hitbc's end.....i believe theyre a legit exchange, but they need to move quicker. all these complaints they've been getting lately is going to damage their reputation if they don't find staff to handle issues in a more timely manner.
i lost my phone with 2fa ..
binance took care of it in 1 day bittrex took 2 days hitbtc has yet to help me going on day 4
it's a shame because when i was referred to hitbtc i was told they were one of the more reputable exchanges....this means they will ruin their own reputation if they don't start moving in the right direction. they have a lot of coins, are convenient for ico's, and have a great interface. they could actually be the best exchange if their support was more accessible.

Short answer, you're shit out of luck with Google Authenticator.
I recently switched phones and installed Google Authenticator on my new phone. I restored my backup from the cloud onto my new phone, and all my apps and data were there for most apps. Not Google Authenticator, however. I followed all the steps that Google provides in order for me to backup my keys, but even through that, my data for the app were never restored on my new device, no matter how many times I would reset and restore the backups.
Needless to say that I am now using Authy.
And I'm still locked out of several accounts because of this issue from when I lost my last phone before I replaced this current one... I've reached out to Google support and forums regarding this matter, and it seems that there is nothing anyone can do to help me recover the keys to a new device for the 2FA that I've set up that didn't have their 16-digit keys available when scanned initially.
Sorry, and I hope that your data is able to be recovered. And solely use Authy moving forward lol
Try reaching out to the actual exchange.....i've been researching this online and if you can verify that it's you, then they will likely be able to reset your 2fa. At least with the reputable exchanges, there's no way that they can lock you out permanently.

question for the vets here... so I got all my money tied up in a few different exchanges....all of them are connected to a 2 factor authentication app on my mobile device. one is connected to authy and the others are connected to google authenticator.....when i initially set up the 2fa, i was under the impression that it was connected to the number on my device and that if i lost my phone, i would have no issue recovering the authenticator with a new device that shared the same phone number.... well, low and behold, my mobile device crashed today in the midst of a software update.....it's now telling me that i have to restore the phone to factory settings. if thats the case, then i can say goodbye to my 2fa apps...so i'm sending my phone in to a data recovery company to see if they can get all my data and apps recovered. if my phone isn't able to be recovered, does this mean i will permanently be locked out of my accounts? theres no way, right? i seriously cannot afford to lose all my money right now. there has to be a way to verify myself and get back into my account, yea? any help on this gut wrenching issue is greatly appreciated. in the mean time, i will be losing a lot of sleep................................

well...i sold my nxt on bittrex immediately following the snapshot........so i better still be getting my ignis, because i too lost a lot by holding nxt after it hit 2 bux.
i presume the price will drop to around 5 bux by the time it starts trading....which is still good, but not 15.

Dont act like a hero because you are not. It is called trading for some reason and not everyone is going to 'win' the game. There has to be a loser for you to make money on trading. People should just educate themselves more about this kind of thing. There is a saying that says " Dont hate the player, hate the game ". It is called trading when both parties think they'll get something from the game. It is NOT TRADING when the seller deliberately stacks the cards in such a way that the buyer is a loser for sure. IN SUCH A CASE IT IS CALLED A SCAM. No one asked you to buy those coins because you do it with your own consequences. You my friend dont understand the meaning of trading. When you make money from a trade, you stop right there and you dont care wether the counterparty that purchase your coin make profit after that or not. 1. Be a part of the smart one to get the free coins and sell it to the other people I have a moral issue to put an equal sign between smart and scam, like you do. Smart is not scam. There is an option two for the like of you and I posted that as well, dont partially quote my post 2. Be an ignorant, move on to another project and never even touch anything related to it
